Colors bloomed before him, captivating. Stephen couldn't help but to pause in his search, admiring the beauty of the forest. He allowed himself a moment...and then recalling he needed to find Fallon, he turned, only to find himself facing a magnificent creature. He had seen foxes before, but never one so large, so seemingly intelligent. Should he move toward it? Should he leave? Before he could decide, it darted off, and Stephen found himself feeling compelled to follow. Was the fox trying to lead him toward Fallon? Either way, he wanted another glimpse of the creature.

Jack paused and stared right back at the eerily quiet and fearless rabbits. As chosen to a Guardian, he could hardly argue that there were things in life that were impossible to explain by conventional means. This instance was certainly an...unusual one, but he had seen stranger things. After several moments, he simply nodded at the large, furry things and decided to take it as a good omen. "Good day," he said, intending to move on.

At his words, however, foremost rabbit twitched its whiskers and stood its ears at attention. "Something I can help you with?" he asked as though the beast could properly understand him. The rabbit - a large, dark thing with lavender eyes - sniffed at him took a single hop in his direction.

"You want to come along?" It simply stared at him. After another moment, Jack shrugged. "Well, I won't argue with you. I'm not much for solitude, anyway." Sure enough, when Jack finally skirted around the fairy ring and continued on, the black rabbit followed - the others looking on with their knowing eyes.

The broken twig lied in the center of her path, and its sharp scent and presence were taken as a sign of things to come. Whether it meant ill or good she knew not, though she looked about as if suspecting another had purposely placed it there.

When no creature made itself apparent, she continued on her way.

"Da. Look, it is settling." Zharkov looked down as the bird finally gave up the fight, its crest flattening against its head as it resigned itself to being captured. Zharkov looked quite smug at the whole situation, stooping to pick up the walking stick he'd dropped in order to capture the hawk. He was a bit scratched up, but had managed to avoid the bird's beak and was no worse for wear. Kozel's comment made him laugh shortly, and he cast a sly grin over at the man.

"Who knows what else we will find...if you plan on continuing your search, that is." He peered at Kozel, interested in his answer. He would have turned around right then if he hadn't had reservations about leaving the meek-hearted Katchian in the woods alone, but he knew he wouldn't be able to. Who knew what kinds of trouble he'd get himself into?

"Maybe we will find more rabbits if we look. Keep hold of that one, I still want to take it home." He couldn't help but huff a soft breath of laughter at the sight of Kozel holding onto the little creature, both appearing similarly shaken.

"Of course I plan to continue," Kozel answered too-quickly, trying to look resolute but only looking, yes, fairly shaken instead as he shifted a wary glance between man and bird. He didn't trust the hawk wouldn't suddenly explode into screeching and flapping, trying to go for the rabbit again, the one he held in his arms now, and quickly turned away, terrified of provoking another attack. Also, he didn't want Zharkov to see him flushing at his laughter. Kozel almost wished he would leave, oblivious to his pitying, charitable thoughts, but he had to admit he was coming in handy for animal wrangling.

"Ugh. We do not need more rabbits," he grumbled, cautiously picking his way forward again, though he did take the chance to look down at the one he carried. If not for its twitching nose he'd think it was dead, but that suited him just fine. If only more animals could be so agreeable. "And the hawk? Do you really intend to keep it? This is ridiculous." Kozel was keen to make his disdain clear enough, but he thought back to what Zharkov had theorized. If that hawk did belong to someone, they would be doing a fine thing for themselves by returning it to its owner. Despite his nasty tone, Kozel felt himself cheering up a bit at the idea. He was the one who had found it, after all.

You pause for a moment to get your bearings and cannot resist taking in the breathtaking beauty of the autumnal wood. Even with the weather overcast the vivid scarlets and yellows of the foliage are as rich as dyed velvet against the gray sky and the black trunks of the trees. Gazing into the infinite reaches of the forest is like looking into stained glass…

When you turn back around an enormous fox with a luxurious pelt is standing directly in your path, watching you. Its eyes seem amused, somehow. It quickly dashes off into the undergrowth before you can react — but at least now you have a pretty good idea of where you should be heading.

You win four points this turn.

You are distracted while walking or riding by a sharp, musky odor unlike the crisp scent of the leaves underfoot. After a moment you identify a suspect-looking stain darkening the roots of a nearby tree. You bend down to sniff it... yes, that's definitely fox urine. Excellent find!

You win three points this turn.

You hear the loud pop of a branch breaking deeper in the forest. After a moment of consideration, taking in the dense bluish mist rising from the forest floor, you set off in the sound's direction. It could be nothing, but it's worth investigating… as long as you're careful.

You win two points this turn.

Soldier of Song

You hear a frantic rattling sound accompanied by a stream of musical but panicked warbling. When you investigate the noise, you find a bright blue and white fairy wren struggling inside a bramble-bush; one of its wings is caught on a thorn. You manage to free it and it flutters away, lands on a bare, gnarled branch, fluffs up all its feathers, and begins preening. You feel strangely lucky afterwards.

You win two points this turn.

You disturb some leaves, and beneath them you find a perfect fox print pressed into the damp mud. Was the fox trying to hide its tracks? Regardless, this is excellent evidence of a trail.

Sebastian absentmindedly kicked some of the leaves on the trail. He was getting bored, maybe it'd be best to give up and leave the fox to... well whatever it was doing. He had better things to do. He kept walking only to notice that Silje was not following him. He turned around and she was standing still staring at the ground.

"C'mon girl, lets go!"

But she didn't budge and kept pawing at the ground. Sebastian ran back and looked at the footprint in the mud. Well, he could keep going he supposed...

Minsuil

You turn a corner to find a man standing with his back to you on the path you're walking or riding. He's wearing an expensive-looking dark blue jacket, his hair is auburn and a touch curly, and when he turns around there's a single spot of blood on his spotless but slightly rumpled cravat. His eyes are an unnatural shade of purple. If you have ever met him before you will recognize him as the spirit named Llyr.

"Good evening," he says to you politely, and then points toward a copse of yellow ashes in the distance. "You may find that direction somewhat more fruitful."

When you look back, he is gone.

You win two points this turn.

Elizabeth couldn't believe her eyes. She had never seen a fox before now... And to get to see one so close up! She was simply astounded by the beauty of the creature. Studying it best she could before it seemed to disappear. She decided that the direction the fox seemed to go might be a good start for leaving the forest. Forgetting the terror that could easily be waiting for her at home.

As she continued in the direction she thought the wonderful looking creature had gone, she decided to try and mark the path a bit. That way it would be easier to tell where she had been. Gently marking some of the trees she passed she continued on. Her Elizabeth slowly started to wonder how she had gotten into these woods once again. Her predicament didn't make much sense in the long run. She had no siblings that would profit from her disappearing and, as far as she knew, she had no real enemies.

As she marked another tree on her path, she slipped a bit, scuffing her show in the process. Elizabeth started to wish that whomever did this to her had had the sense to give her better shoes for such a place. Sitting down to examine her shoe, she smelled the air a bit. It was crisp and clean, smelling of the leaves that were dying on the trees. She always did love the smell of the trees and it was all the more amplified out here.

The woods only seem to get more mysterious the deeper they go, and Kugrah snorts softly as something, likely a bird, emits a sudden, shrill, cry. Elsbeth is a little startled too, but then she laughs softly, and pats his neck even as she grips her bow tighter.

"It's alright. We'll find that wily fox and then we'll get out of here."

The Guardians seems to agree with that, and picks up his pace a little. As they round a tree, she catches sight of a slight glint in the underbrush and has him pause as she hops off to examine it closer. "Oh... it looks like we may be on the right track," she plucks the hair and holds it out to Kugrah, and he sniffs at it, a brief image of the amused fox with glowing eyes flashing into her mind from earlier across their link.

Elsbeth grins, and hops back onto his back, "Well, then! Let's see if we can't find him again."
