She dragged herself over to one of the black doors on the same floor she was on.
...Shelves and shelves of books. Woah.
"Ah, well this is both unique and redundant. You are a story within a story within a story currently surrounded by stories, of which, some may relate or reflect upon your own." The gargoyle said, after noticing her. "He calls me Darkest Knightsbane, but everyone else simply refers to me as the Librarian. It's accurate, at the very least, though they'll never understand the unintentional reference."
Darkest... Knightsbane... Who named all these gargoyles?
The Librarian sits back and studies you, "It should be obvious what I will require of you, but don't feel rushed. Take your time and try to tell me a decent story, hm?"
"A story?" She murmured, and found a seat. She once had many siblings. She would have told many stories before right? Marzena racked her brain, took a deep breath, and started.
"Once upon a time," that was how all stories started, right? "There was a mermaid princess. The mermaid princess' mother had been killed by sailors ravaging the ocean with their harpoons. She had watched as this happened, and held her dead mother in her arms, crying out to her father.
But when the fish came with the King, it was too late. The mermaid Queen had died, and the King became distant. He focused only on ruling the kingdom and bringing up his sons, neglecting his daughters in the process.
Years later, when the mermaid princess was all grown up, she decided that she would do something. She remembered the name of the boat that had killed her mother. All she wanted was a simple spell from her father to rage up a storm, but he refused. He would not teach her, only his sons.
And so, she went to a witch. The witch demanded her mermaid form in return for a powerful storm spell. She would have to walk among the humans, in order to seek revenge.
She agreed.
After the storm spell was used, she would lose her mermaid tail completely. That was the deal.
When she finally found the boat, and prepared to use it, someone yelled for her to stop.
It was her brother. He had seen everything and followed her. He begged for her to stop this, because he had already lost a mother, and he did not want to lose a sister too.
After words of persuasion and many tears, she agreed. But the witch was not pleased. She had given a spell away for nothing? She was absolutely furious and came to the palace to demand compensation.
The King offered her the unused spell. She demanded his crown.
But the King was strong, and together with his sons, managed to banish the witch. He had learned his lesson, and regretted his ways, deciding to allow his daughters to learn as well.
Till this day, the spell sits, in a heavily guarded cavern, for it is still linked to the mermaid Princess, now the Queen of the Seas."
"Thank you, and good luck." The gargoyle handed her a key.

And what did the last door on the sixth floor hold?
A maze.
The only problem was that she accidentally broke a mirror and she fainted from blood loss.

She threw a black key at the gargoyle and ran back up to the room where she had to sing.
It felt somewhat natural, and she had to begrudgingly admit to herself that she liked it. Somewhat.
She also really liked the part when they handed her the trophy with the key in it.

And then she went back to eating more octopus because she was hungry and needed a break. She took her time this time and also...
