Vern raised a brow when Lel changed his attack strategy. Mud shot and Flame Wheel were being redirected to gang up on his Shieldon. Smart. Too bad the only super-effective move there was Mud-Shot, and Flame Wheel wouldn't do a whole lot with Shieldon having one of the highest base defenses in all un-evolved Pokémon. It didn't help that her defense had been quadrupled. Vern was left with a few options, all of them more or less involved the likelihood that Shieldon would be knocked out, since though her Special Defense was very good, it was no where near as amazing as her defense. Mud-Shot was a special attack, and quadruply effective against her, which at least balanced out the Iron Defense... Sort of. This way, it only did normal damage. Having the Flame Wheel go from behind and Mud-Shot come from the front might not've been the best combination, especially since any Shieldon-trainer would know that their weak point was when opponents came up from behind.

Krabby knew Mud-Shot, and Vern already knew that Miksa knew fire attacks, and he was certain neither of them knew any ice, dragon, or fairy type moves... His mind was racing with possibilities, but the biggest one being that someone was going to lose a Pokémon very soon, if not both of them. A knight for a knight, maybe? "Shirudo, don't try to evade! Use Metal Burst on Elek!" Metal Burst? Wasn't that... A Special Defense reducing attack? Yup! A loud screech echoed from his Shieldon's body, sounding like metal clashing together and hurting the ears of those who could hear it. But most importantly, it lowered Krabby's Special Defense by two stages, and a certain armor-clad Dragon knew a special attack. And one that could hit even non-adjacent opponents if this had been a triple battle.

"Valene, Dragon Pulse on Elek!" Two could play at the game of ganging up! This unfortunately meant that Shirudo was still going to be hit with Flame Wheel and Mud-Shot, but her superb defensive abilities should've been enough to keep her in the field a little longer.

Outrage? s**t! Elek the Krabby was knocked out in one hit, but now his Growlithe was using a dragon-type attack! His eyes widened, remembering the last time he'd had to face somebody using outrage... that'd been against Commander Alexander DuBois of Team Rocket. His Venusaur, who he didn't even know could even learn Outrage, had caused a serious rampage (pun intended) and had managed to knock out several pokemon from everybody. Valene had been one of them. That was not going to happen again.

"Shirudo, use Iron Defense once more!" He ordered his fossil type, who had one of the slowest speeds in the history of Pokémon. But that was okay, he planned accordingly for that! Outrage was attacking both of them at once, and with Steel's resistance to dragon, on top of her already superb defense being raised by now four stages, Miksa's Outrage wasn't going to do s**t. "Valene! Dragon Claw!"

It was made clear to Vern, that Lel had had no previous experience with Outrage before. Which, considering the kind of guy that he at least appeared to be, it shocked the young man. Vern, a thin, effeminate gay man, complete with eyeliner and a love for coordination class, had gone up against Team Rocket, helped to defeat one of the strongest members that they had, and raised Raikou from an egg. These facts alone baffled Vern, since that's certainly not what anyone would expect.

Sure, he knew that he was probably going to win, especially with a freaking Haxorus as his starter, but still. It still seemed pretty strange, defeating a guy who reminded him so much of his abusive father. "Where did I get her? Well... I honestly don't know. My parents gave her to me for my tenth birthday as a little baby. I know you can find their pre-evolutions at Victory Road, but that's all I know." His sweat dropped, feeling kind of bad about not being able to give his roommate a better answer. "But congratulations on Miksa learning Outrage. That's the strongest Dragon type move in existence. But... Once you use it, it goes on for multiple turns, and when it ends the recoil is that the user gets confused. If you learn to build up to it though, I'm sure Miksa here will become one of the strongest Pokémon here on campus!" He gave his friend a reassuring thumbs-up, returning the smile.

Vern noticed lel's confusion about his answer, but ignored it for the time being. He let it go that Lel clearly didn't understand what he was talking about. "Difference? Oh, well, in a contest battle the appearance and skill put behind reshaping the attacks to the Pokémon's will, and how well they're groomed, is what's really judged. In regular battles, the only thing that matters is the winner, and that matters too in a contest battle too. But to be really good at contests, you also have to be a really good trainer with pokemon who do really well in battle. Grooming may seem kinda pretty and girly, and it is to some extents. But pokemon who are well-groomed, something that really matters in contests, show a greater level of care and responsibility on the trainer's part. They're healthier, and Pokémon who are groomed properly feel better and look better. Coordination Judges look at a Pokémon's fur, or their scales, or whatever else they have, and take that into consideration when giving out points, because a Pokémon who is unkempt and has crap in its fur-" He made sure to give Lel the "like yours" look,

"It shows to the judges that the trainer doesn't take proper care of them. They're irresponsible, a poor trainer, and they have bad health. When a Pokemon can manipulate an attack to take a special shape, they have to have already mastered that move before doing something special with it. In appeal rounds, that looks fantastic for entertainment purposes, but what's really important is that those special shapes and forms can be used in battle to get you more points. Like, say my Porygon gets frozen... Somehow. Sure, it's really awesome that he can break out of it, but it demonstrates skill and discipline on Ryuichi and I's part when that explosion takes a particular, created, shape. Like a star or something, I don't know. Also, contest variations are great for different battle strategies~" He wasn't sure if he'd explained it well or not, and he couldn't tell from Lel's expression. "Make sense? We take more into consideration with Coordination battles than regular battles, not just who the winner is."

Lél scratched at his head, deeper and more vigorously before Vern even finished explaining. He got the hint that he should probably comb out his pokemon more--or something along those lines. He muttered in his mother tongue, looking down at his feet. He got the part of taking better care--it kind of got pounded into him in the last week. Or more. How long had he been in school again? All the days just blended into one! But where he got lost was when Vern started to go on about making shapes from attacks. How did that help a battle? And do you even do that!? "Mrrhhh... Think better vhen I see it vork," He finally said, just as Lacus showed up.

With a heavy sigh, he nodded at her; trying his best to hold back frustration, but failing to hide that he was full of it. "I don' undurrshtand how jou vin without vinning. Juzt battle!" He looked up a moment to see the sky, guessing the time. He'd probably have to make a quick run to the store lockers to hold the rest of his pokeballs. "Tas," He decided quickly on his next most trusted pokemon.

It was a rather quiet morning so far. Considering the girl on the roof didn't talk much, he assumed she was one of those timid and shy ones. Well, either way, he had to lead her off the roof to get ready for classes since they weren't too far from starting. And considering gym was up first, Taku figured he'd come by and keep an eye on things. Considering a friend of Kazuma's was hurt last time by carelessness (in his opinion on the parts of Lyra and whoever caused the spark), he felt that, as campus security, he'd have to at least ensure safety.

So he came in and took a seat in the bleachers, looking over the field. He kept an eye out for his little brother, who he was sure would be coming in soon. Fliskile and Altair sat beside him, also examining the field. "This is gym? Why is it not in the gymnasium then?" the Lucario and Gallade shrugged, unsure of the reason themselves. "I guess it doesn't matter. Just watch everyone. Anyone get's into danger they can't handle on their own, let me know." They nodded to the albino boy. Yes, he did have albinism, though he didn't exactly make it a point to make it known. In fact, if people didn't know what it was, they'd think he was just an odd boy. Only reason he doesn't have all white hair is he dies most of it black. Long story on that one, though...

"Hey there Taco!" Lyra smacked Taku's back, hard enough to knock the air out of any normal person. "Long time no see! Guess you couldn't stay away much longer, eh?" She grinned with a poorly restrained snicker. "Let me guess... Big bad boss lady sent you down cause my way of teaching is out of control or some pansy excuse like that, and wants you to keep an eye on me and the babies?" Her grin quickly went sour, scoffing off at her assumption. "I know, I know, I'm get'n the can and all. Guess her highness wants to make sure I don't go out with a bang or some prissy thing like that. BLEH!" She stuck out her tongue distastefully, waiting for the rest of the kids and their choice pokemon to run in. "Gotta admit though: it was fun while it lasted.

Jason stepped in, half being strong armed by his bug pokemon to join him for the day. His brother, on the other hand, had learned his lesson these past few gym classes--ever since that accident--with skitty's random assist, and chose his little shroomish instead. At once, he spotted green hair, standing out from the rest of the brightly colored or dingy hair. "Hey there kiddo," He smacked her hind playfully. "How's your head holding up?" Butterfree simply huffed at the sight of the girl, immediately jealous of the attention.
