Welcome to all of our new roleplayers! We're all happy to see you join. This roleplay is probably different from other roleplays you've participated in the past. First, I'd like to direct you to our
Rules thread, which gives you a brief overview of the rules.
Second, let me describe how roleplaying here works. This is what is known as a semi-literate, cooperative roleplay. Each post you make is like a tiny part of a big story. You control the lives of your characters and their reactions to things that happen around them. You can have them interact with NPCs (Non-player characters) or with other OCs (Original characters). As you reply, you help to build the big overall story of the kids' adventures at Monster High.
This rp takes place across multiple threads. Think of each thread as a building, and as the kids move from place to place, the roleplay moves from thread to thread. So, the kids may start out roleplaying at school, and when the school day ends, some of them may move to the Dormitories, or to the Coffin Bean, or hang out at the Maul. As they move along, the day progresses. When the day ends, the next day occurs and the same sequence happens.
This rp also has what's called a Meta-plot. The meta-plot is a big, overarching plot that is being orchestrated by the Guild Masters (Draconia St. George and Glen da West). Think of it like your characters are participating in a Monster High special, like 13 Wishes or Friday Night Frights. The current meta-plot is entitled "
Cirque Sinistaire." You don't have to participate in it directly if you don't want, but it will be impacting many of the OCs.
So what's happening in the Cirque Sinistaire plot? Here is a summary.

Bartleby Farnum, the conniving normie from 'Escape to Skull Shores' is back! He's teamed up with Hagetha Mistie, a swamp witch who used to teach at Monster High eons ago, before being fired for trying to use her students as an army to take over the normie world. Together, they have set up a mysterious
Circus Tent in the town of New Salem. Their plan? To use a stolen mesmerizing spell to capture the kids of Monster High and turn them into their own performing circus!
Hagetha and Farnum stole a
Forbidden Book from the Looking Glass containing the mesmerizing spell they needed.
Using the spell, the first monster they captured was
Lin McGearloch, the son of the gremlins and member of the group of troublemakers known as the Trouble Tribe.
Second, they captured the big friendly
Nero du Sphinx outside of the Coffin Bean using a trap tailored specifically to him.
The last monster they've put the whammy on so far is
Kai Merha, who they captured outside of the Maul. The friends of these monsters are beginning to be suspicious as to why their friends have run away to the circus. What will happen next?
Outside of the meta-plot, other things have been happening.
Skulltimate Roller Maze tryouts took place for Monster High's team, the Nightmares.
School clubs have started meeting up again, including Comic Book Club and Spellbound (CCG) Club.
Some kids are staying in the Doomitory, an on-campus dorm that separates boy monsters from girl monsters.
I hope that this overview answered your questions. If you have the time, doing a little backreading in the guild will help as well. Although the threads look like they're 5+ pages long, the posts on each page are generally short, quick reads.
