Kallan was worried after not hearing some smart a** reply after he left. Moving more of his weapons from the second room in the cottage the cervitaur wiped his brow. Had it really been so long since he had used another room in this place save for his own? “I really do live a hermit’s life.” He commented but just shrugged before finally moving the last box of traps from the corner. The cervitaur just told himself that he had meant to open this room back up anyways. It was odd keeping so much hunting gear in so many rooms. In a way though…that had filled up his home and had made up for the lack of presence in the house. It was strangely empty still for him…years ago multiple taurs had come through here and had slept in this room that had always been open for guests.

But he hated the noise.

Quiet, alone…that was the best way to survive in this place. So why was it that when he opened the kitchen door the cervitaur found himself disappearing back down the hallway and reappearing with a pillow and another blanket? “Dammit woman…” He quietly commented as he gently lifted her head to place the pillow beneath her, “I don’t want to start caring again.” Placing the other blanket lightly over her as well his hand hesitated right next to her face before he finally moved a stray strand of hair out of the way. “Just like a child I swear.” Turning his back he made certain the fire was still going strong before swinging a cloak over his shoulder and heading outside with the keys.

As though her body sensed that she was in a safe place, she didn't wake until the sun rose over the misty, wet forest. Sakina inhaled deeply as consciousness returned, and then she froze. This wasn't her bed... Her eyes cracked open, looking around suspiciously. Where the hell..? Oh. Right. Stifling a yawn, she sat up and looked around, and then down at the couch she was on. A bit cramped, but it was nice to not wake up soaking wet and cold, which she would have had she stayed home...

Where was Kallan? She stood before realizing she had an extra blanket around her than she'd had when she'd fallen asleep. Likewise, that pillow was new... She bit her lip to stifle the warmth she suddenly felt. He was just doing that because he thought her something delicate and weak. That was all! So why did it send that cozy heat through her belly? Her inner questioning was immediately followed by a loud belly growl. Ah! That's all it was! She was starving...

She looked back to the kitchen, and frowned. She couldn't remember where he'd told her the food was. Something about keys and a cellar... She had her little garden at home though! She should just go back now! Yet, if his food was like his tea... One meal couldn't hurt, right?

All night he hadn’t slept well. Every other hour or so the cervitaur found himself rolling out of bed and heading back down the hall yet again. It was like some strange dream that he found her still sleeping there each time he checked. Even now when he was coming back from outside with his arms full of firewood Kallan still expected the couch to be empty and for her to have just been a figment of his imagination. Yet there she was.

Except now she was finally alive it seemed. Raising an eyebrow the buck dropped the load of wood next to the fireplace to announce his presence, “Morning.” He poked at the fire once more before sighing and peeking back over his shoulder again, “Sleep well in here?” Even had a room for her, but she must have been so exhausted to have passed out like that for the whole night. Then again it had been probably better on him though since he didn’t have to worry about her going on some destructive spree. The thought almost made him smile, but the cervitaur caught himself in time.

“The sun is alive, but it’s still damp out there.” Commented Kallan suddenly, “The creek is up as well through the woods.” So what was she going to do? Stay or leave? He needed to help fix up that shack before he let her back there. That was his decision, “As it is get ready for some breakfast. I’m starving.”

Looking up as the door opened, she felt herself stiffen slightly at the sight of Kallan, and her belly fluttered again. She really was hungry. These were unusual hunger pains... "It ain't like sleeping at home," she murmured softly, not quite willing to admit how nice it'd been to sleep through the night without having some critter join her for shelter from the night... No big hollow drafts... No leaking roof...

Frowning, she trotted over to a window and looked out. How had her little shack fared? That had been a powerful storm... And the creek being swollen up meant the ground would mean her legs would sink in a few inches with each step. It also meant that fishing would be more difficult. Her eyes lowered with dismay, but quickly perked back up at Kallan's last statement. "Oh, a man thinkin' he kin cook? This I gotta see~" Well, as long as it was edible... and this implied she'd stick around at least for breakfast before heading out. Besides, it would give the land a chance to dry.

Kallan nodded, “Obviously not.” He retorted quietly though his normal grump was a bit absent and the comment was more of a thankful one. He had worried that she would fare bad since it was a new environment, death trap or not that place was her home. How she managed there still surprised him. That just added onto the belief that she wasn’t a real taur, but instead something from the actual forest, “I hope it didn’t get too cold in ‘ere. The fire died some hours before I came in.” That was a lie. He worked to keep it up all night for her, but there was no way he was ever going to admit it.

“Hmph.” Kallan snorted at her statement, “I should just go make you swim in the creek and get your own food. Be glad I even feel up to feedin’ an imp like you.” Reaching over he grabbed his still damp cloak and headed back out with the door closing shut behind him.Time to grab some good food to cook. He would prove her that a male could cook perfectly fine!
PostPosted: Mon Nov 11, 2013 11:58 pm

"No, I was quite warm 'n cozy. After all, I 'ad two blankets~" she cooed, leaving that statement hanging knowingly in the air.

Sakina felt her smile rise further, feeling better now that she'd gotten one good jib in at Kallan's expense. She was actually worried that his food would be delicious. If it was delicious, she would want to stay for lunch. If lunch was delicious, she'd want to come back for dinner. If dinner was delicious, she wouldn't want to walk back with a full belly, and would fall asleep on the couch again. And then the cycle would start all over the next day!

She peeked over at the door the buck had just vanished through, and she chewed on her thumbnail. She was far too comfortable here. Surely she would go soft like the buck out there! ...She was already going soft, sleeping on some strange male's couch like that! Speaking of... She looked over at the couch, and began folding the blankets neatly over it. See? She was no imp! Unlike some taur, she tidied up after herself!

Kallan bit back his retort as the door fell shut. There was no need to argue about it. Obviously she knew he lived alone and unless there were little pixies running about his place then the blanket had only gotten there one way. He should have ripped it off of her before she woke up then. Sighing the buck pressed against the heavy oak door that allowed him access into a small cellar of sorts. The cold bit into his damp cloak but the cervi just shrugged it off. He would be out soon enough anyways…though if he lingered long enough would she care to look?

The weird feeling in his chest made Kallan stumble as he reached for a basket. The hell? Where had that random thought come from? Surely it was just so she could appear and he could torture her or scare her a bit then. Nothing else. Not that he wanted her worried over him. “I’m officially going insane.” He smacked his face once before turning around and hurrying out of the place. Maybe it was just the small area with all the spices making him act so oddly.

Slamming open the door Kallan threw off his cloak, “Now don’t you bother me while I cook.” He commented sharply before pulling out two heavy skillets for the fire. All he had was wild boar and some eggs so he hoped she was fine with that. She better be that was.

Fluffing up the pillow, she set it on one end of the couch, and stepped back to view her work. ...For someone who usually didn't bother with folding anything, she thought she'd done pretty good. A couple odd angles, but she could deal with it. Surely the male could as well.

The slam of the door actually made her jump a little, spinning and clenching her fists defensively. The relief when she realized it was just Kallan... "Ah. Don't be wantin' me ta see ya slippin' a bit o' poison inta my share? Yeh better not be thinkin' of makin' me sick ta keep me 'round this here place. Just gonna eat an' be on my way." She nodded firmly, and sat herself back on the couch to wait quietly, except for the occasional growl from her belly; especially as the aroma of the meal began to spread from the kitchen....

Kallan snorted, “Would I go through so much trouble if I just wanted to kill ya?” The cervitaur tossed the peppered meat into the skillet as he spoke roughly, “Oh? Now you’re thinkin’ that I would want to keep you? Got some weird fantasies fillin’ up that head of yours there imp?” He reached for some eggs and cracked them onto the warm skillet, “Unlike you if I want a guest to stay I don’t get them sick.” That was definitely not any fun. Rather it was the sick he cared for as his mother had. He peered back over towards Sakina again. That had to be it then. He was just cursed with that caring that his own mother had for others.

“Well I hope you like wadin’ then.” Commented the cervitaur as he tossed the contents of the skillet up into the air and caught them again, “Cause that water is wild, nearly as bad as you, since last night it poured so hard. Not that you would know considerin’ ya were passed out stone cold snoring away all night in ‘ere.” Smirking quietly Kallan kept his back towards her as he began mixing flour and butter into another pan. There was nothing better than brown gravy to decorate meat and biscuits. Biscuits!

Cursing quietly the cervitaur settled the skillet over the flame before grabbing some heavy cloths and opening the small iron panel that was built into the fireplace. Careful to not burn himself Kallan pulled out the heavy pan that was in there with biscuits steaming. Flipping it over a plate the cervitaur sighed with relief to see that just a few bottoms were crispier than they should be. Leaving them he placed the pan back on the stone flooring around the fire before grabbing the skillet back from its hangers. The meat was done as were the eggs which had been tossed around it. Pulling it all from the fire Kallan dropped the piece of boar meat off into two separate plates along with two eggs each. Then after leaving that he silently went back to the fireplace and came back with a bowl of fresh gravy as well. Two forks were dropped on the table along with the remnants of the butter and a jar of blackberry jam, “Have at it you imp. Can’t believe you actually got me to cook for you. You complain and I’ll take it all away.” Disappearing again the cervitaur returned a few moments later with a pitcher of water and two cups.

He nearly sat down at the table, but in a thoughtful moment paused and pulled the blankets over the couch slightly further up so that their edges matched just a little bit better. He noticed that she had worked to tidy up, but teasing her this way was easier than complimenting her. So he tugged one last time before coming back to the table and pouring himself a glass, “Enjoy.”

Sakina didn't question it! The male didn't seem to do anything simple, and getting her ill would definitely be done with flair. As he talked about the conditions outside, her ears fell. Was it really so bad? "Well, goll darn it, do ya want me ta stay or don'tchya?! I swear, ya tell me I'm free ta go, an' then bounce back with how bad it be out there." She snorted and crossed her arms.

Slowly, she found that she was the one staring. Kallan was creating such delicious smells with apparent ease, and it was fascinating to see the food come together so neatly. And it smelled wonderful.... "If yeh kin recall, I didn't ask fer anythin'," she said with a smirk, until... She'd just stood from the couch when Kallan came over and straightened the blanket. Unable to leave it at that, she reached over and tugged the corner askew again as Kallan walked back to the table, and then followed. When she sat, she cleared her throat and raised her voice a little, speaking quite slowly. "So yeh kin heah me this time, thank ya fer breakfast! Reeeeal neighborly o' ya!"

Of course, she took her first bite, and immediately felt silly. This was so good.... She wasn't about to take back her sarcasm though! He better just be able to sense it from seeing her eat it.

“Oh you’re free to go alright…” Kallan grinned menacingly, “If you’re bold enough to brave a flood and then that death trap. That would be fine by me.” He took a sip of his tea with the grin still lingering. No matter if he would worry about her, tormenting her was still too much fun. He did rely on her to have a little bit of sense despite that stubborn pride as well…

His ears twitched as she rearranged the blanket’s corner yet again. Was this going to become some sort of tug-of-war? Such a hassle…yet his mouth twitched slightly into a smile before he hid it behind a bite of food. “Yer so welcome ‘neighbor’.” He replied with a chuckle before chewing on a biscuit. Still the ironies really amused him. How had they gone from stabbing each other to sitting a table together? Not that it kept their words from trying to stab.

So from physical abuse to mental torment? As he pondered it Kallan found himself propping his head up with a hand while watching Sakina eat. Looked like she had either been starving or she was actually enjoying it. He shook his head, such a simple fare being treated like a feast.

Sakina stuck out her tongue. "I ain't been livin' on my own these years without goin' through a heavy rain or two." The idea of wandering through flooded land wasn't what kept her here though. It wasn't that she preferred this shelter to her ramshackle shack. Kallan... He wasn't the reason either!!!! She was simply hungry, and poking at the inflated buck was too much fun.

Her head lowered over her plate again, and she did her best to not shovel the food in. After all, she wanted to savor the delicious- er- she didn't want a belly ache from eating too fast! All too soon, her plate was clean. She even ran her finger along it a couple times to get the remaining flavor off. So good... Tail twitching contently, she quite forgot where she was and gave a pleased groan, eyes closed to enjoy the feeling. It was so nice to have a full belly of something other than fish and berries and leaves for once...

“Humph.” Kallan snorted at her confidence, “Then I will surely laugh if these rains are the worst yet and then see how you manage floating around on a piece of wood. Don’t expect someone to come around and hold onto you then cause they will let you go.” She probably wouldn’t even make room for them and just watch them drown instead. The thought made Kallan just shake his head before clearing out his own plate. His grumpiness faded as he actually watched her eat with interest. It was funny seeing how much she showed without knowing it. The cervitaur felt a bit of satisfaction at seeing how much she enjoyed her food before feeling a bit worried about how she ate. Almost like she rarely saw a full breakfast like that... Kallan sighed, crazy female.

Face flushing as she let out the pleased noise Kallan reached out and grabbed her plate. Dumping them into a bucket of clean water he tossed in a bar of soap along with several of the pots and pans that had been scrapped clean. Leaving them there to soak the cervitaur couldn’t help but to nudge the blanket out of place one more time to see if Sakina would notice. “Alright you ate imp…was it enough or do I need to scavenge more food for you? Wouldn’t want you to explode on my kitchen though from so much food…would be a mess to clean up in ‘ere.” He just couldn’t help teasing her for some reason, “As it is you can just get cleaned up and think about headin’ back if you’re so desperate to.” At his last comment, however, a loud clap of thunder rolled over the forest and the sound of pounding rain filled the house.

Frowning Kallan peered outside, just how much more rain was going to fall?
PostPosted: Wed Jan 01, 2014 12:56 pm

Eyes popping open at the scrape of the plate being pulled away, Sakina blushed slightly and looked away. Her mind had wandered too much there! Hopefully, the male hadn't seen any contentment on her face! "As if I could force down any more'a yer cookin'." Huffing, she stood and stretched. "It'll do until I git mehself home."

Of course, by now she was too distracted to notice the blanket. "Nice ta know ya care," she grumbled. "Probably nice ta worry 'bout sumthin' other then yer head over-inflatin'." Her head snapped around to the window when the thunder cracked, and she sighed softly. She really didn't want to walk through this. "Looks like the rain will clean plenty," she murmured, tapping against the glass gently. This storm was bigger than most.... Finally, a little concern showed on her features. Would her little place still be standing when...?

“I know it’s good, but ya don’t want to bust open.” Grinning ever so pleasantly looked back towards Sakina, “I was afraid you were going to go splat all over my clean kitchen. Woulda been a shame that.” Stretching the cervitaur had to suppress his yawn. Tossing and turning all night had not lead to a peaceful sleep for him. It was all someone’s fault as well…his gaze slipped and he glared at her momentarily from the corner of his eye. Stupid female wrecking such havoc in his life. ..what the hell was he thinking bringing her here?

He was so caught up in his thoughts that the cervitaur missed her sigh and instead he just heard the comment, “Can clean plenty like your hide when ya get back to your shack.” Crossing his arms Kallan listened to the rain and as it sudden lightened up, “So feel free to head back when ya want. Storm should be endin’ soon. There’s an extra cloak on the wall if you need.” Even as the words left his mouth he felt guilt about it. How was he to expect her to tread back through the forest in this mess? Still the thunder had ceased for a bit and the heavy rains seemed to be lighting up. Sighing softly under his breath Kallan just went back to finishing cleaning up the dishes.
