There was more stabbing and kicking at the serpents. Jake was NOT a happy camper. And then suddenly a small handful of them met their scaly demise, and he blinked, turning to see... a giant greatsword pointed at him, and he raised his hands, staring at Stormy. "Don't stab me. I have legs."
He let out a sigh of relief when it was de-summoned (really, he had enough injuries to deal with today, tyvm) and grabbed her hand, the other hand pulling out the dagger in his sash to use as a sort of makeshift peg as he stabbed it into the wall, using it to pull himself up. The LAST thing he needed to do was pull Stormy in also.
When he got out, he let out a huff, sounding somewhat like "thanks", and straightened his coat. He looked over to Tori and shook his head. "I can bandage myself just fine. Just toss me a roll." As he began wrapping it over his arms, he heard an explosion, and whipped his head towards the sound. Oh hell. The trainee who was carrying the Codex managed to set off a bomb or something.
...Ami was so going to blame him for this, wasn't she?
"You two, move on towards the exit. I'll be fine." He nodded at Tori and Stormy, before making his way towards the moon trainee. "Hey, pass the Codex over here. If that thing doesn't make it back, her royal highness is going to kill all of us. Get yourself moving. I can take more hits than you."

/Be careful!/ Gir yelped as the floor suddenly exploded beneath Evan. The force of the blast sent Evan stumbling backwards, and it hurt a bit, but he was otherwise fine. After a quick check to make sure the Codex was still in one piece, Evan turned his attention to the smoking, jagged hole in the floor where he had just been standing.
The sight sent him back to an earlier time, when such devices, equally well hidden, were a constant threat. Evan had been fortunate enough never to see a landmine in action, but he'd seen their effects, knew that by all rights he should be in pieces all over the floor--
/Hey!/ Gir barked, startling Evan into the present. /Give this boil the stupid book and let's go!/
Evan looked over at the guy who requested the Codex, giving him a dubious frown but no longer up to arguing. "Yeah, okay. It's all yours," he said, all too happy to pass it over.

Tori was somewhat impressed on how well Jake was bandaging himself up since he wasn’t a Life hunter, but then she thought that maybe it could have been from practice like her most of what she knew was from practice on bandaging herself up and others. Giggling a little to herself that maybe she should give Jake one of the smiley stickers she found for his good bandage work later on.
“Alright, but be careful,” Tori said to Jake when she heard the explosion from where the trainee sun hunter was and thought that had got to hurt. “Come on, lets get moving before there is more trouble,” she said to Stormy and motioned her to lets get moving towards the exit. [Tori is moving to B3]

Taking the Codex, Jake grunted slightly under the weight. Damn, why was this thing so freaking heavy? He was about to ask how the trainee had even managed lugging the thing all the way here, when he heard a small whirring sound, and quickly turned his head towards the source. Unfortunately, he was too slow, and hissed when he felt something p***k his neck, mind flashing back to the life lab training course months ago. It seemed the trainee unfortunately got a dart to the neck too.
"You might want to grab a bandage roll from Tori." he muttered, jerking a thumb towads the life intermediate. "Wouldn't want to lug your unconscious body out of here. We have enough to deal with as is."
Reaching up to pluck the dart out of his neck, he suddenly felt dizzy, and staggered under the weight of the Codex, but managed not to drop it. Hell, they just needed to get this thing out... in one piece. Preferably a full piece. Shaking his head, he managed to move forward slightly, wearily eyeing the bookshelf and statue. He just KNEW something else was going to happen.

With a sigh of relief, Deryk noticed that he seemed to be able to get out of trouble that time around. But he was almost at the exit now. How many more traps were there?
With the sharp, sudden stinging sensation at the back of Evan's neck came the urge to swat at whatever caused it. Evan lifted a hand to do so before remembering that would press the offending object in deeper, then plucked it out instead. His eyes unfocused a little as he examined the object now held between his fingers. A dart? Who the hell booby trapped a library, of all places?
And why was the floor moving?
Evan wobbled where he stood as he looked up at the hunter he had passed the Codex to, following his gesture to the woman he indicated. He reached towards her and nodded his thanks--carefully--before clumsily slapping the bandage on. It made him feel a little better, but no less dizzy. He moved a few feet forward and leaned against the wall, letting it support him for a moment while he waited for the room to stop spinning.

As Deryk's hands touch the door, a loud BZZT goes off. The door won't budge. It's completely locked from the inside! Maybe there's something you missed?

gaia_crownFrom behind the group came the loud noise of Ami's struggle with the two guards. "JIM! KEEP THEM AWAY FROM THE BOOKSHELF!" The taller one nodded and made a mad dash for the main room.
"Oh no you don't," Ami grumbled, whacking "Jim" across the stomach with her glaive. The man crumpled to the ground, but Ami didn't seem phased. He probably wasn't hurt. Hopefully.

"You've reached the door," came Gale's voice, buzzing across everyone's headsets, though it was clearly directed at Deryk."I've tried hacking into the main locking mechanism system, but the coding is extremely complicated. I can't seem to break it, so you're gonna have to find the switch that releases the locks before you guys can get out."

Deryk frowned as he heard Gale speaking in through his headset.
"Maybe I should have been the one staying behind..." he mumbled. But in any case, they were going to need to find the switch. Hm...
Looking around, he spotted the statue. Well... it worked in movies. Then again, he heard someone shouting about the bookshelf. That was another common switch area. The statue was closer though.

OH COME ON. Jake grunted as he turned his back towards the steam, using his body to shield the Codex from it. Dammit all...
Getting away from the steam, he flinched when he heard a loud buzzing sound, and whipped his heard towards the noise, noticing that Deryk was at the exit already, but...
Another voice, someone shouting about the... bookshelf? And then Gale's voice buzzing through the headset only confirmed the worst. "Geez, Gale, way to be useful." he muttered.
Huh... a switch... and one of the guards mentioned something about the bookshelf? If he wasn't lugging around this Codex, he would have made his way towards it, but doing so would only keep him farther away from the exit. They needed to get this book out pronto.
"Hey, you, trainee." He never really did get Evan's name... or maybe he wasn't paying attention when Ami said it. "Head over to the bookcase and see if there's some sort of switch."

Stormy smiled lightly to herself; it'd been a while since their first turbulent meeting, when she had to pull Jake out of the fire and help get him back on his feet. It was nice to see little things like that.
Before she could follow Tori away from trouble, she heard an opportunity to instead run towards it. Seemed the guards were awful wary of them touching the bookcase...Maybe that was where the switch was Gale had mentioned? "Bookshelf's got a chance for cloudy weather coming," she reported into the headset as she headed over.

Mysteriously locked doors? A bookshelf they weren't supposed to be around? Evan wondered if they couldn't just break everything in the room the door down and be done with it. The ecstatically cheering voice in his head wondered that, too. But wrecking an entire room during a mission that was all about stealth--though they had obviously been detected--would probably be frowned upon.
"On it," Evan said to the hunter carrying the Codex instead. He slid around to its side, remembering the sting he had just received from walking in front of it.
Stormy received a bemused frown for her assessment of the bookcase. "Careful," he said, "this thing's probably as booby-trapped as the rest of this place." Nevermind that he was reaching around and pulling out books at random, flipping through them quickly to see if there were any switch-like devices concealed within before discarding them with a careless toss over his shoulder.

While running, you accidentally knock over a small potted plant. Behind the plant sits a tiny switch marked EMERGENCY LOCK RELEASE. Hm.
Push it?
You hear a loud siren, and the locks on the exit door release. Quick! Get out the door!
---
A light breeze fills the library as the door opens. The portal to Deus Ex sits outside, and is yours for the taking.
Ami, who'd been previously fighting a guard, turns to see the door's been opened. "Let's go!" She darts through the room with ease, considering you guys already triggered every trap. Thanks for that, guys.
---
On the other side of the portal, everyone can take a sigh. The portal managers give everyone an odd look, and then shake their heads disapprovingly. Ami turns to Jake and says, "I'll take that, thank you. I can get it to the labs on my own. I'm sure H will want to see it before it leaks out." Actually, she probably just wanted to hold it for herself. It was a shiny new toy for her, what could you do.
"Right. Well. Excellent work, proud of you all, etc etc." She waves her hand through the air, as though none of the work you just did really matters. "Remember to turn in your mission report unless you want a direct encounter with his highness." She nods, as though remembering some past experience where a trainee forgot to fill in their mission report. It wasn't pretty. "That would be very egregious." One more nod, and she heaves the book higher up on her hip. "Oh, and if you see dear Gale, do tell him thank you~ I think a few of you would've been dead without him!"
On that note, Ami turns heel and leaves you without a second thought. She gestures for Tori to follow, so they can begin discussing details of analysis. You think you hear her mumbling something about how she's never going to leave the library again.

Now that the door is unlocked, all trainees are free to go! You don't have to keep rolling, just assume/rp your hunter as having reached the door an gone through the portal, and respond to the prompt above.

... really. REALLY. He was 1000% done with you, library.
"WHY THE HELL IS THERE A FLAMETHROWER IN A LIBRARY?" There was no point in being stealthy, the guards already knew they were there. And he felt like blasting Gale's eardrums off too. Maybe that'd make him feel better.
The Codex might have been scorched a little. Just a little.
When Evan pressed the switch and the exit opened, and Ami came up and offered to take the Codex out of his hands, he more than happily obliged. That thing weighed a TON. And considering the hunter was smaller than him... well, whatever, that was her problem.
He quickly left before she could pin the blame of the booby-traps on him, and... possibly see that he had given her the Codex in less-than-mint condition.
Mission reports, UGH of course. And rather than thank Gale, he muttered a quick "Gale you suck" before tearing off the headphones and turning it off.
