Software development can produce some cool things, and I have screens from my home project here: TCG Maker.

However, most of the time, you sit alone in a cube, not really supposed to talk to anyone (development is a solitary task unless you're getting help), and the people who do dev work aren't always as intelligent as you might hope. You very rarely actually learn or design anything new, which means you're on the same project for years on end, stagnating unless you get lucky and have a dynamic job (mostly at the top tier groups like Google) or do stuff at home. Oh, and HR always thinks you're an expense that they would rather do without, except in companies that are pretty much online only.

Kinda like any other job that requires training, really.

I also have the unfortunate situation of being stuck in a state that is ideologically opposed to most of what I support, so my coworkers and I disagree on most everything social. Oddly, my current job is the only one where this has actually been more than an annoyance.

Still, I want to have a job where I'm creatively challenged, and my current career doesn't fit that bill.

Hello, you can just call my xlovelesswingsx, because I rarely give out my real name on gaia. I have been writing since I was nine years of age. I love to write fiction stories, and fan fiction. I have a crazy obsession with South Korea, Japan, candy, anime, video games, and animals. I often find myself drawing anime/manga style art, learning Korean/Japanese, roleplaying, playing video games, or write in my spare time. I can seem a bit random a times, but I am always fun to be around! cat_4laugh

Alright, see now I understand why your job might be a bit boring. It sucks that you're pretty much forced by yourself and aren't appreciated. At least you have your writing though, and at least you know you want creative pursuit rather than dealing with it every day like a drone.

What do your write? Poetry? Novel length prose?

I think everyone is a littel bit random. It's what keeps life interesting! Are you working on any fiction or fanfiction right now? Have you ever done nanowrimo?

Prose, of varying lengths, but mostly lengthy. Usually, if I find a character interesting, then I'll want to keep writing about (or as) them.

I did NaNo last year, November, and didn't make the 50k mark because I lost three days I hadn't been able to plan for. I was just under 9k words short. Now that it's been a while, I should go back and revise it (again). I just need one fact checked for authenticity.

I write novel length prose too, usually third person though, almost never first.

Well camp nano starts in July if you're interested. I have a thread for it on the guild's main forum.

If you don't mind my asking, what was your nano about?

sadly I have writer's block right now so I won't be able to post any stories or poems or anything for until I can get out of it. I got a bunch of suggestions to help though so I might be able to sooner rather than later.

And I hope you do. It's very helpful! The goal is 50k in one month. I failed miserably last yeat, but ever since doing it I've been able to churn out higher word counts the ever before. Nano should hire me- I feel like I've been promoting them all day, ahaha.
