Eva, on the other hand, was still climbing away, oblivious to the fact that her life and success depended on dice rolls.
In the end, because the dice gods finally decided to stop trolling her and bestow her with their power, the girl made it to the top.

Otto liked it up here. He could keep an eye on the girl from there. Then again, he'd also prefer her to be safe and sound. Hm.. maybe he should have let her win.
Nah.
"Sooooo about that name." He asked expectantly, helping her up once she reached the summit.
Karma came then and there. A flying rock that had been shot from the pressure of the lava pit knocked Otto off the cliff.
He cussed and warped out just before he hit the bottom.

Eva nearly flung herself over the edge of the cliff when she saw Otto go over, but was relieved to find that the boy had managed to warp himself out in time.
Then she look up at the sky and glared, just in case there really was a god looking down at them.
She hadn't wanted to tell him her full name, but she hadn't wanted him to almost die either. As if she response to this, a sharp gust of air blew by, and--already so close to the edge of the cliff--she suddenly felt herself slipping forward and over.
Aw shoot.
At the last moment, she managed to grab her pendant, transporting herself back to Deus Ex.

Eva had spent the last day or so not so subtly trying to avoid Otto, darting around Deus Ex as if she were in a spy movie (complete with awkward barrel rolls across the hall). In the end, she had decided to escape to the Weeping Forest and back to this cursed place without letting the blond know.
He'd never think to look for her here. Clearly.

Otto was kind of upset. He was so upset that Eva was avoiding him, he started to stalk her.
And that is what brings us to the point they are now.
"You've been avoidin' me.." Otto pouted in a grouchy voice, his face red and his brows furrowed as he made his presence known.
His aura attracted a monster.

Uh oh.
Eva froze up at his voice, and began laughing nervously as she tried to come up with an excuse when she actually turned around and saw his face.
...
In an instantly, she was squishing her cheek against his. "Ahh, don't look like that, Puppy! I just...well, you know. It's just a little embarrassing--" Oh my god there were two of them. While they had dealt with two last time, it hadn't...gone all that well, considering. Eva took one look at the pair of monsters and then glanced back to the blond.
"...Run?"

He still looked grumpy (he always did, after all), but the cheek squishing helped to ebb his aura. He felt disappointed that Eva wouldn't share her full name with him. "How bad can it be that ya can't even tell me---..."

"...Tell you what," Eva said as they warped in again, her smile dry, "If we only encounter one--or less--of those monsters today, and we manage to take it out...then maybe I'll tell you my name today."
Maybe. She had seen that disappointed look on his face last time, and okay, while her full name was kind of embarrassing (for her), trying to avoid Otto wasn't any fun either. In the end...where was the harm, right?
