Rags hadn't participated in the other races, and the only reason he was here now was... Ladies. Does. Pretty tails. He'd heard that the races had drawn quite the crowd of the female variety. The hawk attacks nearly made him change his mind, but he had chatted up some does and bragged about participating, so he couldn't back out now. Curse his libido...

((I know I'm late, so feel free to ignore this. Just got an idea that wouldn't leave me alone. And someone HAS to pick the slow option.))

Ragwort was a big buck, but he seemed to lack all ambition for something greater. Being a runner sounded like hard work, but if it could score him chicks to be in these races... He wasn't going to pick the "mad dash" approach, because he did not intend to stop running today.

Once he could no longer be seen easily he slowed down a bit more, taking care not to rustle the grass.

This was easy... If you ignored the bird. Oh, well. Elil were Owsla problems, for the most part. And runner problems, he supposed. But hopefully he wouldn't attract the attention of the bird. Most of the others were running as if their tails were on fire, and consequently making more noise than he did. That's right... Look at the running target, not at the large grey buck ninja-ing through the grass.

If Ragwort really had put his back into it he might have been an owsla contender. They were usually larger rabbits, after all. But luckily for the rest of the warren he was too lazy to bother. It was enough for him to float around somewhere in the top of the eating order, due to his size. It took very little effort, and he didn't mind yielding to the owsla and the more ambitious rabbits of the warren. They could squabble about being on the top while he wooed the ladies. He could almost feel the bird staring at him. That part about the race really sucked. It better be worth it...

He made the turn, crossing fingers, toes and whiskers and hoping that the bird would not be able to see him in the thinner grass.

Whew... It did feel better to be on his way back now, but Ragwort kept his slow and steady pace. So far he had managed to avoid making any noise and that was the way he liked it. Sure, chicks digged cool scars, but the two rabbits that had attracted the hawk's attention had been lucky. They might as well have ended up as lunch. That might have made the race easier for the rest of them, but that scary female owsla was probably crazy-evil enough to postpone the rest of the races until the embleer bird was hungry again.

Now that was a doe he wouldn't be hitting on. She'd probably eat his face if he tried, and not in a good way.

Ragwort was getting into a rhythm, and since he more or less followed his own tracks back he knew the terrain and could move a bit more quickly. He hoped that someone else would be slower than him. Buut... Placing last might earn him some pity, and pity might just lead to something good.

CRUNCH! He really had to leave his libido out of this.

"Not getting laid if I'm dead," he told himself silently.

He moved on as quickly as he dared. Look at the other rabbits, look at the other rabbits. I'm just a little mouse. No, wait... Not a mouse! I'm nothing! I'm the wind in the grass!

Ragwort knew his way now, and he dashed the last bit back to Althea. Embleer Frith! This better be worth it, because he did not want to do it again anytime soon!
