spaceFiona heard the tinkling of bells sounding from the front room, signalling the arrival of a customer. She finished up the line she was stitching (by hand at the moment, since she hadn't been busy and it was relaxing for her), and, setting the fabric down, stepped out to the main room. At first, she didn't see anyone standing before her counter, and her brow arched a bit in surprise. She didn't tend to get any of the younger customers until the Summer, after all. However, a glance over the counter and downwards solved the mystery, and she barely managed to contain her shock; well, that was no first year, she thought, chuckling to herself. "Af'ernoon, how ken I he'p ye?" she asked with a smile. She stepped out from behind the counter, figuring it was probably more polite to be able to hold a conversation with him without having to arch over her countertop. Calling attention to his height was probably rude, after all. She was sure he was used to it, but then, that didn't make it acceptable behavior, now did it?

spaceWesley escorted the young man into the robe shop with a faintly relieved expression. He didn't know what it was that made some children so hard to read as far as their wands went, but the two of them had been at Ollivander's for a fairly long time. The concept of the wand choosing the wizard was always an interesting one to explain to muggleborns, and it was equally amusing to watch their expressions when they were paired with the right wand and it just clicked. The experience was usually fairly memorable... Wesley recalled receiving his own wand. It had been one of the less-than-showy examples of a match, which he supposed suited him. He'd never been inclined to theatrics, after all. He wondered what it was like for Siobhan, and her children. He could just imagine how spectacular her wand's reaction had been when it'd been handed to her. Actually, he was sort of surprised nothing had exploded. Or, maybe something had. He'd never asked her about it.
spaceThe Slytherin offered a small wave to Fiona McKinney as she joined them in the front room of the shop, smiling at her. "Good morning, Miss McKinney. Or," he checked his pocket watch with a wry grin. "Hm, not quite. Afternoon, then," he said with a chuckle. Wesley gestured to the young man accompanying him. "This is Lyall Thompson. Lyall, Miss McKinney will be fitting you for your robes," he said, and then, figuring the child was in capable hands, and friendly enough not to mind, he moved to sit in one of the chairs available for just such an occasion. He watched the grin that broke out on the seamstress' face. "Nice to meet you, lad," she said, gesturing towards one of the stools over by the mirrors. "Step this way for me, we'll get you fitted."

☀upcσmíng fírst чєαr☀unsσrtєd☀mugglєвσrn☀ ♬♫♪вєcαusє ι'м нαρρу♪♫♬ Lyall had spent more than a few minutes getting his wand, but it was absolutely perfect! He even made pretty purple swirlies with it! See? He could do magic too! Wait.. He wasn't supposed to do magic before school! Oh no! He just got his wand, and he had broken rules! That wasn't good at all! He glanced at the man, before deciding that he wasn't in trouble, as no one had given him a telling off. He walked beside the man, looking around the next shop. There was a ton of clothes here! Clearly, this was where he was to get his new uniform! Wesley introduced a nice looking woman, one who seemed to be happy to meet him. "Hiya, Miss McKinney! I'm really excited 'bout school! I like sweaters... do you have any?" He giggled, smiling hugely. The lady asked him to step on a stool, so he did, grateful that he was at least somewhat coordinated. It wouldn't be fitting to topple over, of course! The boy pushed his glasses up his nose, excited to begin gathering his school things.

spaceFiona couldn't help but chuckle at Mr. Edgeworth as he settled himself in one of the chairs, as per his norm. She supposed that, were she in a position where she was dragging first years all over Diagon Alley all day long, she'd appreciate getting off of her feet for a time, as well. She was on her feet most of the day, too, but she at least got to be relatively stationary. She offered the young man he'd brought in a grin. "So good to hear you're excited. I was too, my first year," she said, a faint twinkle in her eye. She'd been incredibly nervous, of course, but it hadn't dampened her eagerness to finally make it to the magical school. Of course, in later years, she would go through a phase where she hated Hogwarts, and herself for being magical, because of the wedge it'd driven between her parents. But, her first year at least, she'd been bright and excited, like any first year should be. "And, aye, I've got sweaters for you. We'll be fitting you for one, in fact," she told Lyall, grabbing up a set of robes that looked about his size (and wasn't he a tiny thing? She wouldn't have thought he was old enough to attend school yet, if she were honest), asking him to pull the black robe on so she could hem it and its sleeves. As she did this, her measuring tape was set to work with a wave of her wand, taking the child's measurements. "What are you thinking of Diagon Alley so far, lad? Has Mr. Edgeworth shown you all the nooks and crannies yet?" She glanced over at the man in question with a faint wink, which he met with a small roll of his eyes and a laugh. She was teasing, obviously; she highly doubted if the rather straight-laced man would take the child to anything but the locations at which he would get his supplies. Lyall would likely have to discover all the more interesting shops on his own. Perhaps he'd make a friend while out today who'd show him the way.

☀upcσmíng fírst чєαr☀unsσrtєd☀mugglєвσrn☀ ♬♫♪вєcαusє ι'м нαρρу♪♫♬ Lyall Grinned eagerly when she informed him she'd been excited for school too. That was so cool! He wanted to bounce around, but he had to be still, so his clothes didn't turn out looking silly. She also said she had sweaters, and that they were going to get him one, and he made a small squeal of excitement. He just loved the cuddly warmth of woolen sweaters. She offered him a black gown to drape over his arms, which he thought looked a bit silly, but surely wizards had a different style than anyone he'd met. A tape measure began whirring around him, and the boy kept turning his head to try and watch it move. His jaw dropped when he discovered it was moving all on its own, which had to be magic. Magic! Everyone was doing magic! It was so amazing! His eyes were wide in awe, the boy more antsy than ever! The woman asked if he'd seen the nooks and crannies of the Alley yet, and he nodded. "Yep! We got my wand already! And we've walked around a bit too! We're gonna get my books last 'cause they're heavy." He gave a very solemn nod, his smile never leaving his face. "Didja know I did magic today too? I made purple swirlies come out of the wand I got! Isn't that nifty? And once, when I was little, I accidentally made my hair green. Mom wasn't very thrilled, but I loved it! Can you do that stuff too?" He continued to try and watch her work, every few seconds reminding himself to stay still, but his excitement always won out.

spaceFiona could barely contain the smile on her face as the child wiggled about while she tried to get his measurements and start working on his robes. She shook her head at Lyall, placing a firm hand on his shoulder. "Lad, I need you to stand still for a bit, now. Wouldn't be fun if you zigged when you should have zagged and end up with a pin in your bottom, now, would it?" she asked, arching a brow at him. Of course, she was more than used to energetic children who couldn't stay still; it came with the territory. But, this particular child seemed abnormally wiggly. Thankfully, she managed to get his sleeves pinned without sticking him. She moved onto the hem, listening in amusement as he dithered on. "Purple swirls, huh?" she said, chuckling. "Hm. When I got my wand, it rained gold glitter all over the shop owner. The woman who took me to get my things joked that he'd be picking it out of his hair for weeks," she chirped. It'd been incredibly amusing at the time, though Fiona had to admit, she had worried that the woman was serious and been very, very sorry until she'd said she was joking. "The first time I did magic, I was... I think seven. I decided I wanted my favorite dress to be gold instead of pink. Suddenly, it was," she said with a small laugh. "And, aye, I can 'do that stuff.' You'll learn to do all sorts of things at school. On purpose, even," she told him teasingly.

"Well, I don't want that! Sorry, Miss. I'll try to be more still." He watched her slide shiny pins into the fabric near his hands, determined not to wiggle, no matter what! When she started working on the hems, she spoke again, telling him about her own uses of magic. "Gold glitter?! That sounds like way more fun! Except, I don't think Mister Wesley would be happy if he got covered in glitter. Though, he'd be all nice and sparkly!" He peeked at the man, smiling brightly. The seamstress continued, telling him about the time she changed the color of a dress. Gold glitter, gold dress... Maybe that was her favorite color! She continued, informing him that he'd soon be able to do all that magic himself, and not on accident, and he had to tense his muscles to avoid flailing in excitement. He didn't want a needle in his pants, after all! "Neato! I'll be able to do all that stuff on my own! That's awesome! I can come back every year, and tell you all about everything I learn, and we can be bestest friends!" He gigged, already planning out the years to come.

spaceFiona smiled as the child attempted to still himself. His efforts weren't particularly successful, but at least he was now being still enough that she wouldn't stick him on accident. She chuckled at the child's assessment of 'Mister Wesley,' shooting the man in question an amused smirk. Wesley scowled lightly, and inclined his head with a light shrug. "I'd wager you're right on that front, lad. I do believe silver's more his style," she said. He scoffed lightly, but remained silent. Fiona would never quite understand what it was with Slytherins and their house colors. Certainly none of the other houses seemed to have this obsession with them... she glanced down at herself briefly, noting that, well, she did wear a lot of gold, which was almost a yellow, and black. But, she'd liked gold long before she'd become a badger, after all. It'd always been her favorite color. And black went well with pretty much everything, and was slimming. Not that Fiona was sensitive about her figure, but still. The seamstress smiled lightly as Lyall went on about learning and their being 'bestest friends.' One of her favorite things about her job was getting to see the students year after year. She had a feeling this child in particular was bound for her old Common Room, as well. He certainly seemed like a Hufflepuff. But, you never knew. The Sorting Hat could be a tricky thing. She finished up hemming the robe, removing it from his shoulders and setting it on the counter, a needle and thread setting to work sewing the new seams in. Meanwhile, she started collecting all the assorted items the child would need, and making notes about what adjustments would need to be made. When she grabbed the sweater, she handed it to him with a smile. "What do you think, Lyall? Comfortable?" she asked with a small smile.

"You'll have to do that, or wait 'til I'm in school, since I can't do magic yet." He nodded, smiling. The woman continued to work, and the boy kept looking around, observing the room. When she pulled the robe off, he turned around to look at her, grinning excitedly. "A sweater?! For me! Oh, I love it! It's all soft and warm!" He snuggled it, before offering the top back to the woman. He positively loved wearing sweaters, as they always kept him warm. He bounced around a bit, quite unable to contain his excitement. He was glad the woman didn't have any pins in hand, because he very much might be too excited for his own good. "And thank you, Miss McKinney, for helping me find all my clothes. 'M sorry you have to do a lot of hemming and stuff, but I'm not very tall, you see." He smiled, pink rising to his cheeks as he pushed his glasses up his nose.

spaceFiona couldn't help but laugh at the expression on Wesley's face at the thought that they would cover him in silver glitter (or, rather, glitter of any color, she'd wager). He looked positively mortified. "Hm, I'll leave that one to you, lad. After all, can't be chasing the man off. He brings me a good bit of my business," she said playfully, shooting the man a wink. He rolled his eyes in response. She watched with amusement at the child's sheer delight over the sweater she'd handed him, taking it from with with a grin. "Glad you like it. You'll certainly need it to keep you warm in the castle once winter hits," she told him. "Good for the trek out to your Herbology lessons. And Quidditch games." She set the sweater down with the rest of the items to be altered. The child's apology was met with a light shake of her head. "Not to worry, lad. It's my job, after all. And besides, I've got magic to help me with it, now, don't I?" she asked, winking at the child again. She glanced at Wesley. "I've got what I need, if you take the boy to get the rest of his things, you should be able to pick everything up later this afternoon, provided I'm not suddenly swamped," she told him with a grin. Wesley inclined his head gratefully. "We'll be by later, then," he said, then he was gesturing towards the door. "Come along, then, Lyall. We'll leave Miss McKinney to her work, and go get the rest of your things, shall we?" Fiona pursed her lips, watching the man. For someone so stiff and proper, he certainly was a kind man. She'd be willing to bet that under all that rigid formality, he actually really loved his job. "Have a good day, then," she said with a smile, waving her wand and setting to work on the alterations to Lyall's robes. Wesley inclined his head politely and held the door open for the young man. "Where to, now?" he asked curiously.

He smiled at the woman when she said he couldn't chase Mr. Wesley off. "I wouldn't want to run him off. Maybe I can show him my pet bunny! That makes people happy. Bunnies are so soft and sweet!" He grinned, bouncing again. After she had told him not to worry about the job at hand, he nodded politely. "You've got a good point. Someday I'll be able to learn to hem my own clothes! Oh! But that would take your business away, and then I'd feel bad!" He looked between the two adults as they discussed when to return for his clothes. Wesley asked where they were off to next, but before the boy left, he ran over to, and hugged, Fiona. "Thanks again, Miss McKinney!" He hurried over to Wesley and grinned, thinking about what was next on his list. "I think we need to get a cauldron, telescope, some... scales, and... something else, then we can get books, and after that, we can come here and get my fancy new clothes from Miss McKinney!" He grinned up at the older male, excited to go about the rest of his shopping.

The redhead finished up the row of stitching on the blouse she was working on and set it aside, heading out to the main room of the shop with a grin. "Af'ernoon," she greeted them with a wave. "How ken I he'p ye fine lasses today?" She thought that the redheaded girl might look a bit familiar, and was fairly certain the girl had been in for robes before, but it was somewhat hard to remember for sure. She did see rather a lot of people, after all, especially at this time of year. The busy season had only just begun for her. She hadn't been too swamped just yet, but she was pretty sure things would get bad here in the next couple of weeks. People would realize how little time they had to get their kids supplies and things, and would crowd the Alley in a panic. It was rarely fun. But, at least it meant a good bit of income for all the shopowners, herself included.
