Willow had sat there with her hands in her lap watching Invicitus as he spoke. She was almost hanging on every word, she'd always loved incense and now she'd be able to learn to make her own!!
Her tail flickered as they passed around the ones Invi had done, to see what it was like. When he allowed them to do it she sat there staring at ingredients wondering what to pick. Some of them she wasn't even familiar with. There was a small frown as she pondered, picking up the rose petals. She knew those were nice, looking at each sent she thought before finally picking out anise, coriander, sandalwood and finally frankincense. Hopefully these would give a nice sent when burned together.
Her tail flickered as she ground them up. Carefully making sure it was a nice power, not too fine and not too course. When she was finished she mixed them together and added some charcoal powder, she didn't want to it burn too slowly.
She then added the gum like Invi had showed them, just a little bit at a time until it was just right. Applying the mixture to the stick she seemed a little proud at how well it stuck. She knew it wasn't particularly perfect as it took a little work to make sure everything stuck nicely but she'd made it after all.
Willow sat there waiting for instructions afterwords, letting the mixture rest. Admittedly she was pretty excited to find out if she did good or not. This was fun and hopefully Invicitus approved of her work even if it wasn't the best yet. Actually Willow kind of wanted to make more than just the one stick.Step 1 Result: What Ingredients did you use? [ Entering ]
Mercy was lagging into the classroom, and was probably one of the last to enter. She quickly took her seat and looked up at her instructer with no certain worries. She had never met him before, so she knew nothing about him. When she was passed the tray she took a mental note of everything that was on it before reluctantly passing it to the next person. Now she had to work on her assignment. She hoped she would get this right, as the last thing she had done ended up failing horribly.
Step 1: Grind the ingredients down, but do not mix them together. Be careful of their ratio to one another.
Step 1 Result: What Ingredients did you use? Frankincense, Juniper berries, Cumin, Vetivert What number did you roll? 9,7,2,6 respectfully Step 2 Result: What number did you roll? She was able to ground each ingredient finely, except for the Cumin. That turned out chunky. However, she hoped it would not affect her assignment in the longrun. She looked at the next step.
Step 2: Mix your ingredients together, along with Charcoal powder. Make sure to keep an even mix of charcoal powder. Don't add too much, don't add too little. The charcoal powder will give everything the slow burn required for ritual.
She was feeling confident after not failing on the first step. She got her charcoal dust out and proceeded to the next task.

She put in 3 parts of charcoal dust, which, truthfully didn't seem like a lot to Mercy, but that was alright. She was a little uncertain but the only thing left to do was to keep going forward. She was on step 3 now.
Step 3: Using a careful portion of Gum of Arabic, bond your ground up incense together so that it is dry to the touch, but it will also adhere to one of the sticks that were in your kit.
She picked up the Gum of Arabic and proceeded on with her assignment. She was sure her incence would burn quickly but she hoped that wouldnt be graded against her.

She left off at 4 portions. That would be enough right? She was starting to feel even worse. She was probably going to fail like she did with the bird. Next was to bond it to the sticks. She grabbed a few and ended up breaking them. Shoot. She whispered a spell to them and they instantly stuck together again. she just hoped she didnt set a fireball spell to them. Now that would be bad.
She started to bond the incense to the stick.

The incense fell off the stick she had repaired and landed back in its tray. Oh no! She looked around to see if anyone had seen before grabbing a different stick to try bonding the incense too. Hopefully the second time was the charm.
Mercy started to bond the incense to the stick.

Again, it failed. Mercy was feeling less confident than she had at the start of the assignment. She added more gum into the mix and began to get it stuck to the same second stick. She was now sure it was her and not the sticks that were screwing up this assignment. "Work, work, work. dont make me use spells to make you work." she whispered harshly to the stick.

Aha! Success, she knew threatening the stick would make it work. They had feelings too, and she had probably scared them into working. She smiled in triumph and looked at the next step. Let it rest. Seriously? Well, I suppose. It's not like she had much else to do. She could.... play with the other sticks...and her dolls. She had almost forgotten she had them folded in her pocket. She took them out and started playing with them, letting the incense stick rest. Step 1 Result: What Ingredients did you use? "Having a slightly mischevious mini must be nice though." Xiu mused aloud, only to pause when she realized how odd that may have sounded. "Oh! I mean...well, he always keeps things exciting, right?" She added the clarification quickly. She had never really dealt with the troublemaking types of minis before though, so she couldn't say that she would fare well with them...but Levi seemed like the type who knew when to put her foot down.
...Whereas Xiu would just flit about in a panic.
She frowned as the mixture refused to stick, but with a little more gum of arabic, it finally decided to stay. Beaming, she turned to look at Levi, noting that the tatzel's incense was ready as well. "Hurray! That took a while, didn't it?"Quote: Step 1 Result: Rose Petals/Cinnamon/Myrrh (Batch 1) - 2 Step 2 Result: 5 Step 3 Result: 7 Step 4 Result: 6, 8, 7 Step 5 Result: What number did you roll?

kekeke... well, sure if'ya put it that way. So long as he ain't wrecking' them vines, Popcorn's a riot. N'keeps ma'dorm sweet smellin'. The corgon's urn functioned much like an incense burner. Once the charred candy corn was turned to ash and the smell of sugar filled the air in puffs of white smoke, visitors would be able to smell the candy corn from outside her dorm room. It was actually how many of her peers found their way to her room. Levi had already settled the sticks to rest. Given how crumbly the mix had been in putting them on the stick, she wanted to ensure they kept on well. The longer she waited, the more solid the incense would be? She hoped so. It looked similar to the example Invitus had shown them, so the tatzel ghoul hoped for the best. Chuckling, Levi began wiping her hands again, briefly giving Xiu a pat on the head once the mix had come off. Ya'll seem pretty excited ta' be 'ere. Them clothes kinda remind me 'a yers too. Pausing for a moment, unsure of if she wanted to mention such a subject, Levi decided to share. I tried on somethin' just tha'other day. Xiu was indeed very excited to be here--so much so that it seemed as if she had been in too much of a hurry to finish the incense so that, once class was over, she could go exploring again.
Patting off her hands, she turned to face the tatzel completely now that their task was done, pink eyes round and tail wagging behind her at the headpat. "Yes, I love it here! It actually reminds me a little of home!" Which, in turn, reminded her of her uncle. Was he well, she wondered? She hadn't heard from him in a while (granted that she herself had been too busy to write him a letter as of late--she would have to amend this soon). "Yes, the clothing here is quite--oh?"
She cut herself off, peering up at Levi with wide eyes. "Oh! You tried something on, jiejie!?"Quote: Step 1 Result: Rose Petals/Cinnamon/Myrrh (Batch 1) - 2 Step 2 Result: 5 Step 3 Result: 7 Step 4 Result: 6, 8, 7 Step 5 Result: 4

Looking over the three batches of ingredients that Invictus had put out for them, Mei debated on which to use. It was a toss up between the first and the third, but in the end, she chose to go with the frankincense, juniper berries, cumin, and the vetivert.
Setting to work, the doll began to grind up the ingredients, making sure to do a proper job. Grinding them appeared to be easy, but she was yet to find out how she would to do with the other tasks.

Incense first? She didn't have a problem in the world with that, Serafina didn't. She grinned eagerly, watching as he told the directions, what they should do, how they should do it, even offering predetermined batches of scents that might blend well together--though Serafina immediately thought that she'd rather blend some ones thought up on her own, perhaps that'd be more impressive; he did say that all the ingredients he chose would be fairly well-blending together.
Her brows raised as the way to show her excitement, twitching of her lips easily missed underneath the surgical mask she wore, and got to work as soon as he implied they were able.
First, she needed to pick her ingredients, and there were certainly a wide variety for her to use. Some people were going for the predetermined batches, and others were going for a varying mixture of things--what she chose was her own mixture, moving over the ingredients, figuring out which scents best penetrated the mask on her face to make her sigh in happiness. The first to catch her attention was the strong scent of cinnamon, which she almost immediately grabbed, sticking it in her own little bowl.
While the scent of cedar caught her nose, it seemed to almost conflict with the spicier feel that cinnamon gave her, and while Invictus had said all these scents would go together, she decided to move on to a different scent that caught her nose, Bay. She wasn't exactly sure what the Bay smell was, but she certainly liked it, and added it to the mixture she was creating. She probably shouldn't choose anything too flowery, she decided, as her eyes moved over the Rose Petals, eventually settling on the Nutmeg ingredient.
Perfect.
With her three ingredients chosen, Serafina set to grinding the mixture, attempting to make it as fine as she possibly could. She found that it took more strength in her wrists than she might have expected--this was tough!--and, consequently, perhaps the powder wasn't as fine as she might have hoped. Still, it seemed middling, which was good enough for her; middling was better than some of the poor performances some of the others were showing, outright struggling with grinding of the ingredients. Ha! She didn't struggle! Though if she knew their names, it might be amusing to tell of their struggles with the incense later...
...Perhaps she could just memorize their appearances.
Her mind wandered off for a moment or two, dancing over the other attendees, watching as they ground ahead, or burned ahead, or even sat there indecisively on what ingredients were perfect... or perhaps that last part was her own imagination, but her imagination danced off long enough for her to forget that the next step had to deal with the charcoal, and scratched her head at it when her eyes wandered back to her ingredients.
What?
...Oh. Right.
She dropped some charcoal into the mixture, smiling satisfied at the tiny amount she had chosen. A small amount should do it, right? There weren't many ingredients. It couldn't possibly need to burn that long.
Probably words Serafina was going to regret ever thinking, but the ghoul didn't really notice, immediately moving on to the next step. Bonding agent? Well, that was likely to be rather important... If the incense didn't bond, then it certainly wouldn't get the chance to smell nice. Perhaps she should add a lot of that. She looked over what had been set in front of her, scooping up a bit of the bonding agent, and pouring it into her mixture.
Well, that didn't look like enough.
Serafina snorted, moving to her pile and adding yet more, only satisfied when she had developed a bit of a pile of the bonding agent in her mixture. Perfect! There, now it would definitely hold together. That was certainly important to note...
And now to actually mix it.
To work she went, moving to put her best efforts into her, using all that wrist action she found herself having trouble with before. She could do this. She could! If she got it the first time, perhaps she would impress Invictus, and as she had noted before, he was the heir. That was an important note. The Isle of Conquest was beautiful and he was the heir of the whole place. Of course, this ghoul didn't exactly have a grand chance of becoming a Horsewoman. From what she could tell, they ... weren't accepting new members.
Or, at least, that was what she suspected. Still, they were teaching them. Perhaps that meant something.
Admist her thoughts, the mixture had been bound together--and on her first try, too! She muffled a small squeal of excitement, pleased with her own efforts. Ha! She could do this! Probably better than she had performed at that damnable dancing... Ehem. That wasn't the point.
And now to wait.
Serafina wasn't exactly a patient person, inclined to jumping around to do everything possible with everyone possible, and it showed in the quiver of her body as she sat, tapping her fingers together and nearly jittering under the pressure of just needing to stay still and not chatter with anyone, and not mess with her incense further, and not call her teacher over to profess that she was done even if she was likely far from it.
It was, perhaps, impressive for someone like Serafina how long she had managed to make herself wait, even if it was only a bit above the average time. Normally, she would have jumped after a few seconds and said that, yes, hers was perfect! But she managed to stop, wait, and watch others. At least watching others was entertaining. They were all concentrating, now, though... Not much very fun to find out there, except maybe the few who were still talking quietly to themselves, perhaps teaming up and working together on the project. Then again, she was pretty sure incense-making was an individual task... perhaps they were talking about something interesting.
When she strained her ear to find nothing of particular gossip, though, she gave up and declared that her mixture was, "Done," with a proud grin on her face.
