John smiled cheerfully, arriving at the estate just after breakfast. Keira was still asleep, exhausted. He didn't bother knocking, but crept into her room quietly. He sat next to her on the bed, stroking her cheek and smoothing back her hair, whispering quietly to her. He felt thoroughly at peace. A maid came in, winking, carrying a tray of tea, toast, and fruits for Keira. She gave a knowing smile to John and wagged a finger at him playfully before closing the door. He leaned down and kissed her, the sunlight pouring through the window behind him, framing his face and bathing him in an angelic glow. Her eyelids fluttered. "Keira," he asked softly, kissing her again lightly and cupping her face in his hands.

Keira thought she was dreaming as she felt someone touch her. Her eyes fluttered open once she felt the kiss. She looked at John as she was thinking she was dreaming. But then his touch his face was real. Keira slowly sat up as she slowly reached out and stroke her his face. "You came back to me." Shewhispeared. Tears filled her eyes as she kissed the palm of his hands. "Don't ever change John."

"I'll try not to," he said with a smile, "I'm still me, just a bit different. It will take a little time learning to be me again." He kissed the top of her head. "I'm sorry I worried you." He led her over to the table that had been set for breakfast. "You must be hungry. We should eat. After all, it does look rather delicious and I'm a bit hungry. You don't mind, do you," he asked as they sat. "Good," he said, taking her silence to mean she didn't mind. He pulled a stack of toast toward him and, buttering with his right hand, began scarfing down toast. He chuckled at her expression and swallowed. "Haven't eaten in a while and it was a long night for me." He returned his attention to his plate with enthusiasm. "Just don't laugh at me," he said with a wink through a mouthful of bread. He washed it down with the tea and started on an orange. "My favorite," he said, holding up the orange. He was determined to keep her cheerful.

Keira blushed as she felt exposed. She was only in the lace nightgown that reached her thighs. "Eat up I am sure you are hungry." Keira reached for a strawberry. "My favorite fruit. When I was little I use to go pick them with my caretakers and after we were done, they use to give me a basketful." Keira took a bite as she loved the sweetness. "Opps I forgot to ask to eat." Keira felt rude as she was still use to asking permission. "Soon I will be training again." She told John as she didn't eat. "John promise me you won't change." This time she looked at him and smiled. Keira got up as she walked over to him and sat in his lap as she placed her head on his shoulder. She was afraid that he will change and win't come back, not even for her. "Please promise me." She whispeared. Her thoughts drifted back to the Colinel, I want to make you my daughter... Keira smiled at the thought but she also has her doubts as the door in her will be the fate of the world she once lived in.

John could feel something deep within him changing. He quickly excused himself and quickly walked out the door. Two soldiers attempted to deter him. He shoved them to the ground quickly and kept walking, letting his instinct lead him. He entered a door that gave way to a staircase. The colonel? He burst through the door to find the colonel laying on the ground, his morning tea spilled upon the carpet, cup still in hand. "Poison..." He quickly tore apart the colonel's desk, rummaging through drawers and throwing them to the floor. He heard footsteps behind him and a shout of surprise. He ignored them. Finally, he found what he was looking for. He stabbed the long needle of the syringe into the colonel's chest and pushed the plunger down. The antidote quickly spread through his veins. He opened his eyes. The colonel rasped out, "Their poisoning us. We'll have to leave... My other estate..."

Keira stood up and bathed herself. A few minutes later she got out and got dressed. She heard a knocked and both maids that attended her came in with some food. "I already havr breakfast thank you." They bowed. "Lord John said you didn't eat so we brought fresh ones please eat." They placed it infront of her and Keira shook her head. They kept insisting. "No thank you." Keira turned and a blade was.placed to her neck. "Eat now." Keira pushed her back as the blade cut her a little. Keira ducked under the other maid and grabbed the sword she kept and blocked their blade. She kicked one back.

John sat next to the colonel until darkness fell, watching his uneasy breathing. Finally, it slowed as the last of the poison faded from his system. He pulled the colonel onto an armchair and sat in one adjacent. "You'll have to do it soon, John. The time is almost upon us. This war must end. We cannot let chaos reign any longer. I do not care how it happens, you must destroy that door for good." John nodded, picking up a bell from a side table. He rang it and a maid came bustling in. "Bring Miss Keira. We have to leave quickly." The maid nodded as John felt another stirring of power deep inside. He had no idea how his patron god had stitched his soul back together, but he had a feeling there were some nasty side effects. His hand twitched, shooting a few inches toward his concealed dagger. He gripped the arm of his chair and concentrated on the ticking of the grandfather clock.

The maid rushed in with a slashed mark on her arm. "My Lord, Lady Keira is under attack. Please come quick." Keira ducked under the blade as it just scraped her arm. She brought the blade up as she did to deflect the blade the was aimed upward. She jumped back making sure one wasn't behind her or infront but it was a bit difficult do to room size.

Henry threw a stern gaze at John. "You stay here. I'll take care of this." In a flash, he had disappeared and reappeared into Keira's room. There were three of them - two vampire women posing as maids and a man. Keira was fighting a losing battle - three against one was hardly great odds. He took a deep breath, calling on another of his powers that he had not used since the last great war. A thin, thread-like white flame flowed through his body from his core, flaring at his fingertips. He twisted it around in his hands until the flame grew into a large, crackling ball. He threw it directly into the two women. A pile of ashes and a faint aroma of smoke were all that remained. The man looked up and met Henry's fierce gaze. He was ready for the fire.
Henry knew better than to use the same trick twice. He called up water - the one element that drained a vampire's life force until he escaped or died. His powers of speed and strength would be useless and it would take him a long time to recover. He called the element from his core once more and formed a globe of water around the vampire. He hung suspended in it, trying to swim for an edge to free himself. Henry threw the globe of water against the wall; the vampire smacked into it hard, falling to the ground. The water drenched the room. He seized the vampire's dagger from the floor and slashed his throat quickly, turning to seize Keira and teleporting back to his chambers where John was waiting anxiously.

Keira held onto the Colonel as she had a few cut marks on her legs and arms. She burried her face in the Colonel side as she was close to death. Odd enough she excepted to die but not by them. She clung on the Clonel lije a scared child as she didn't look around she just stood there not wanting to let go. She at least fought as her breath was shaky.

John watched the colonel and Keira collapse on the floor, breathing heavily. He saw Keira's cuts and quickly drew his dagger; he cut his arm deeply without her notice and pressed it to her wound. Within minutes, the bond had finished forming. His task was complete. He was ready to sacrifice himself. "I'll lead the troups. Do you have enough strength to transport the both of you there?" The colonel nodded. "Good. Take her to a healer right away." John sprinted out of the room for the stables. He'd have to ride south and board a ship to get to the island of Cosgrove - named for the colonel and filled with rich farmland. His heart pounded loudly as he packed, sadled his horse, and led twenty-five soldiers south for the docks.

Keira flinched as she felt John touch her. She felt warmness from his hand and once he left she sat up. "He turned into the door didn't he." Keira's eyes started to water as the tears fell. "Now he's going to die because of this." Keira silently cried. She placed her face in her hands as she wreped.

Henry held her as she cried. "I'm sorry," he whispered. "It's what had to be done." He closed his eyes and summoned the rest of his strength, transporting him to the sunny island. They appeared on a terrace overlooking the farmland to one side, and the white sandy beaches in the distance on the other side.
Henry lay there, breathing heavily, not used to using so much of his powers. He had a dreadful feeling that soon he was going to be needing to fight at his full potential.
He sat up, stroking Keira's hair to calm her, wondering how best to distract her. Finally, he had an idea. If she was to be his heir, he felt she should know. "You once asked me what I was. Remember? We were in the caves, waiting for Soldier Borus - which reminds me... He's been sleeping an awful lot lately..." He frowned and rubbed his chin before casting the thought aside. "Would you like to hear a story?" He decided it would be the best way to tell her what he was - like a child's bedtime story.

Keira honestly didn't want him to touch her but she did anyways as she knew that Colonel knew what John was up too. She has never felt so used in her life as now she was thinking John never loved her nor like her as all he wanted was to just gain the power of the door. Keira didn't care where they were at as all she did was looked down. Her eyes still teared up as the tears kept falling. She never cried like this as she felt like a full. "Yes I remember. A story sounds okay." She honestly didn't care at the moment.

Henry's uniform changed into black clothing as he steered her to a chair at the railing, overlooking the farms and ocean beyond. "Once upon a time, long ago, when this world was new," he began, smiling to himself at the cliché, "The gods, who loved the people of Otherworld very dearly, found that the mortals were falling into hardships. Their animals were dying, their crops were failing, and their families were growing sick and weak. The gods, elementals, and all manner of deities held council to determine what should be done. Eventually they decided that they would select a champion - the greatest among them - to live among the people. This being would guide them, and heal them; would teach them, and take a wife. They would have a child and this child would live eternity in Otherworld, until such time he would return to the realm of the gods and reign supreme."
Henry smiled sadly and peered out into the horizon. "Naturally, everyone wanted their offspring to rule the gods; they held contest for many years, all the while the mortals were suffering. After three decades, they had their champion - John's patron god Ábiörn. He is the god of the elements and the life force that dwells within us all. He rules over time and distance. The gods, seeing his immense power, were pleased with the results and he was granted the right to help the mortals and take a mortal wife. And he did just that."
Henry cleared his throat quietly, feeling the full weight of his burden. "His wife bore him a son. They named him after her father, Henry. Thousands of years have passed since that day. He is bound to this world and cannot leave it until the gods see fit... try as he might," he added under his breath in a sad, exhausted manner. Feeling what Keira was thinking, he added, "It is because John loves you that he is doing this. He is dying for you so that you can live. His only purpose now is to die and seal the doors for good. He loves you Keira. A lesser man would not deserve you, and would certainly not lay down his life for you."
