{Farah : Land of Departure : Dining Hall}

"Ah yes my dear, that would be this aspiring king of thieves right over here!" He waved a hand at Cassim as he took a place next to Mizu. "Already an excellent thief if you ask me, but he could always be better. And it wouldn't hurt to learn more about different places and the thieving styles of them. I'm an old man, set in my ways. He could use a younger and prettier teacher than me!" He started to say something else, then was interrupted by sandwiches and a fruit salad, which was enough to stop him for a bit.

With a sigh, Farah gave Mizu a small bow, then sat down next to Cassim and looked around the table. An obnoxious shout from the boy with the rabbit, a nervous boy who seemed to be...is he changing to water?, and that seemHey Cas. Farah whipped his head around and looked for the source of the voice. The only place it could have come from was a girl who looked to be around the same age as him, hurrying to the opposite end of the table from where they were sitting at. She seemed like she wanted to not be noticed...and her voice...something about it was familiar. He looked over at Cassim, but the man hadn't seemed to notice, which was odd, as Cassim noticed everything.

"So, if you're going to teach Farah, there are some stories you should know. This one time we were in the middle of the desert and he confused a""DON'T YOU DARE!" Farah shouted, his voice cracking on the last word. He was standing on the bench and glaring at his Galiant. Then his face darkened and he sat down and stared at his empty plate, embarrassed.

{Mizu .:. Land of Departure .:. Dining Hall}

Mizu nodded at Cassim as he sat, and made a face at Ferven.

"Yeah, I don't think I'm curious enough for that," she said, imagining chewed food flying through the air to reach CC's stomach. She shuddered and turned her attention back to Cassim somewhat gratefully, and laughed.

"I dunno if I'm good enough for an aspiring King of Thieves," she admitted, then took a bite of her sandwich. "I got caught; that's why I'm here," she continued around her mouthful. Luckily, she managed to swallow before Cassim and Farah started bantering, but she still nearly choked at Farah's blush. Chip scampered up her arm and started pounding on her back with his tiny fists in an attempt to help stop the choking.

"You're supposed to finish swallowing before inhaling, Mizu," he scolded gently.

[ Connor : Land of Departure : Connor's Room >>> Hallway ]

Professor Duvari quickly set down his pen and slammed his notebook shut with a wide grin, proclaiming to all the world - within his room, at least - "DONE!" He rose from his seat and stretched. "Well, Akela, guess who's the man? That's right, me! I've got the perfect plans, perfect schedule, perfect EVERYTHING! The kids are gonna LOVE my classes this year!"

Akela, the wise wolf, let out a small chuckle. His Keeper always got so excited on this day. He was always ready... He loved his job, and that was just the way Akela wanted it. They were both getting older, and not liking it very much. But as long as Connor was happy with what he was doing, and stayed here, where it was safe, he wouldn't have to worry about anything bad happening. "Well, are you ready, ol' pal? Let's head out and finally do something that doesn't involve sitting down!"

"Well.... I suppose we could go," Akela said, standing up and doing a little stretch of his own. "How long it has been since I last pulled you out of trouble."

"Come on, buddy, you act like I'm still a cub."

"It seems only yesterday you WERE a cub. Remember when I pulled you out-"

"-out of the river before it swept me away and I got crushed by those rocks, yeah yeah...." Connor finished in a bored tone, as if this had been discussed at least a million times. You're never gonna let me forget that, are you?"

"I did tell you not to try it," Akela said as they began to exit the room, not suppressing the obvious presence of both humor and pride in his voice.

"I know. You told me," Connor said, grabbing his thin jacket off the coat rack by the door as they left. He closed and locked the door behind them, then they made their way down the hall. "And you were right. You're always right."

[ Garret : Land of Departure : Dining Hall ]

Garret had kept quiet since he'd decided to tag along with the group and thankfully for his sanity, so had Peter. His green companion had flown off to who knows where (He said he had to 'check on something, he had no idea what that meant and didn't care to find out) This left Garret to do what he did best in his mind: Be as apathetic to his surroundings as humanly possible.

That last comment about Mizu being an 'aspiring King of Thieves' caught his attention though. He had to get in word on that.

"Don't sell your self short Mizu."
He said while taking a sip of water. "You've got the 'acrobatic as hell part down' at the very least."

He then noticed that, how whatever reason, she was currently having trouble swallowing.

"Need a drink, Master Thief?"

{Mizu .:. Land of Departure .:. Mess Hall}

Mizu was able to get herself mostly under control, and punched Garret in his side, just below the ribs. She didn't hit hard, just enough to bruise a little.

"Don't call me that," she said with a final cough. "If you'd been listening, you'd know I'm not the King of Thieves Cassim was talking about. Jerk." She quite expected Garret to continue to tease her with the King of Thieves bit for the rest of her life.

[Serenity : Land of Departure : Mess Hall]

Serenity watched as everyone moved around her and chatted. Though she had somehow managed to get herself into the crowd. She fidgeted with her clothes looking down shyly, with no idea of what to do with herself.

Marie ran off watching the group, walking over to where Iago and Rebecca was. She had been watching them. The kitten was getting restless and bored. She just wanted someone to play with. She went over to Rebecca and started to meow at the bird and pawing up at him in a playful manner.

"Everyone gets caught once or twice, well, almost everyone." He said with a cocky grin, laughing a bit before going back to his food. Hearing what Garret had to say, he raised an eyebrow. "Acrobatic huh? Impressive. He certainly could use some practice there. Running along rooftops doesn't mix well with him." Then he leaned in and whispered conspiratorially, "A bit afraid of heights I'm afraid. Dreadful news for a thief."

"I'm not afraid of heights. I'm just afraid of falling and not being alive." He mumbled to his fruit salad. He was reaching for a fork when Cassim started ruffling his hair, causing him to shoot an annoyed glare his way. He hated when Cassim did that.

"You're right I suppose. It would be more like the Queen of Thieves, yes?"

Turning his attention away from Cassim, he looked around and saw the young girl he had passed before. Hoping to catch her eye, he smiled and motioned to the seat next to him. She was so young. Or was he just old to be a first year?

[Eugene/Mushu ~.~ Land of Departure ~.~ Dining Hall]

When the food arrived, Eugene remained still and allowed the others to get their sandwiches and fruit salad first. He scanned the faces around the table. Most of them he knew by name and had taken classes with them or have seen them around--in a not-so-stalkerish way. He was still very nervous and couldn't bring himself to look up for very long, though his body had stopped shifting from solid to liquid.

In the mean time, Mushu had already crawled down from Eugene's shoulders to figure out what the pink floating Galiant was. "So... you sum sorta Pock-ie-man, or sumthin'?" Mushu asked, poking Morph on the side. "T-T-Tha-at's-s M-Morph," Eugene whisper-stuttered. "Ziko-omo's G-Galiant."

Mushu turned his head back, his eyes all crazy-like, and spoke quickly, "I know what it is, Gene!" He didn't. "I'm just tryin' ta start a conversation--sumthin' ya obviously don't know nothin' about." He turned back to Morph. "Pfft... Keepers. Right?"

~:Narration:~

The day wore on. Old friends reunited, some new friends were made, and students who had not yet found their dorm room were shown where to go, either by older students or the few teachers roaming the halls. Those students who had drifted into the dining hall finished their lunch, and returned to settling themselves into their dorm rooms. Night fell, and the students and teachers were summoned to dinner.

Master Eraqus arrived an hour before the sun had set, and could be seen at the Teacher's Table in the dining hall with his dear friend and Galiant Yen Sid by his side. The two were engrossed in conversation as the students filed in and took their seats, but as the last straggler settled in, their conversation ceased, and Master Eraqus stood.

"Welcome," he said, holding out his hands to the students at large. "Such a pleasure it is to see you all here. Many of you have returned, and I am glad to see you all. We also have several new faces among us, and I welcome you new students whole heartedly. I am Master Eraqus, the Headmaster of this Academy. I see many of our newest members are wondering why you are all here. Please allow me to explain:

"You are here because it is believed that you all have displayed the greatest potential to become mighty warriors. As I'm sure you all know, we are at war with the Dark Kingdom. Ansem and King Mickey do what they can to protect us, but they need your help in fighting off the forces of darkness. You are here to hone your skills in battle, tactics, and strategy. But do not fear, for in each one of you is the potential for greatness. There is no doubt in my mind that many of you will become great enough to turn the tides of battle.

"This Academy shall be your home for many months to come. The people you see around you shall become your brothers and sisters, mothers and fathers, and dearest friends. You will build trust and companionship, as well as honing your skills. The friendships you make here shall last you your whole lives, and grant you strength of heart. You may feel small, weak, and frightened right now, and you will for some time. But know that the learning you receive here--and, more importantly, the bonds that you forge--will hone and temper you to become the greatest reaches of your potential. Strength of character will come, bravery will be found. And size? Well, that has not mattered over much."
He chuckled, and many students and teachers joined in the laughter.

"The lessons ahead of you are designed to bring out the best of your abilities, and hone them to perfection," the Headmaster continued as the last whispers of mirth quieted. "The changes you will make in yourselves, and the changes you see in others, will amaze you. Your teachers are the best there are; each one of them has perfected their skills to tremendous degrees, and they are happy to pass their wisdom on to you. By the end of the year, you will look back on who you are today, and be amazed at how far you have come. You new students may not believe me now, but your seniors can tell you how much they have grown and changed since their first days here at the Academy.

"Your teachers and myself are here for you, should you have any questions, any fears. Should you find yourselves struggling, you may come to any one of us, and we will aid you in whatever ways we can. Now, I believe I have captured your attentions for too long. There will be time and more than time for all of you to learn about your new home. You did not gather here to listen to me; your dinners await. Dig in, and welcome once again!"

With that, Master Eraqus resumed his seat, as Gert and what seemed like an army of helpers streamed into the hall and laid out a feast on the tables. Students were encouraged to help themselves, and there were many varieties of foods to try. As the babble of hungry children filled the hall, Master Eraqus smiled.

❖~❤~❖~❤~❖

[The time is now early evening, roughly 7:00 pm. Dinner has just begun. There is no seating arrangement for the students. There is no set menu; whatever food you want your character to eat, go ahead and say that's what they're eating. Table and silverware is plain, sturdy, and pretty well worn, including for the teachers.

The dining hall is a large chamber with high ceiling, double doors on one end leading to the Entrance Hall, and a large window at the other end showing the countryside. The dais with the Teacher's Table is on the wall with the window. There are four doors leading off of the chamber that lead to dorm rooms and classrooms. The doors near the window lead to the classrooms, which are up a flight of stairs; the door on the left as entered from the double doors leads to the dorm rooms, and the remaining door leads to the teachers' rooms.

Below is a map of the dining hall.]

{Mizu .:. Land of Departure .:. Dining Hall}

Mizu grinned as Master Eraqus spoke. She remembered this speech from when she'd first started three years ago. He was right about a lot of things, and she had to admit she didn't recognize herself when she thought back on the little scamp she used to be.

As Gert and the kitchen staff came in, her stomach growled, and she immediately reached for a wing off of some sort of fowl. She was pretty sure it was chicken, but it was hard to tell sometimes. The sandwiches and fruit salad from lunch seemed like forever ago, and she was famished.

"So who else got a free hour in the morning?" she asked her seat mates as she filled a bowl with more fruit salad with a heavy dose of whipped cream. It was a good thing Gert knew how much she loved the stuff, otherwise they'd never have had enough for anyone else!

[Ferven: Land of Departure: Dining Hall]

Ferve was busy picking some Venison out from between his teeth when Mizu asked about hours, so it took him a second to get his finger out of his mouth. Even with his tongue still working at the venison, he said "Oh, I think I do. Let me check."

The male reached into his back pocket, pulling out two pieces of paper. Apparently, one was blank, so he quickly used that to get the meat from between his teeth while looking over his schedule. "Ah, better. Let's see...Yup, I do."

[Zikomo ~ Land of Departure ~ Dining Hall]

As Master Eraqus spoke, Ziko couldn't help but feel a surge of pride in their cause and excitement fill her. She was ready to finish this year, move to the front lines, and make Narnia proud. A small twinge of fear threatened to cast a shadow over her enthusiasm, but she quickly pushed it from her mind. When Mizu asked about their schedules the girl snapped out of her reverie and looked over.

"Oh, I do!" She chimed, leaning over her plate slightly, "I figured I'd keep my mornings open for workouts and supervised sparring."

"Aww, no exploring the grounds for secret passageways with me, Ziko?" Mizu asked in a tone that would indicate pouting if it weren't for the big grin plastered on her face. "What about you, Ferv? What are you doing with your free hour?"

[Ferven: Land of Departure: Dining Hall]

Ferv thought about what he actually was going to likely be doing with his free hour. "Knowing me? Um...either sleeping or absolutely nothing cause I'm a lazy bump on a log. So essentially free."

[Eugene/Mushu ~.~ Land of Departure ~.~ Dining Hall]

Eugene was captivated by Master Eraqus' words. How he spoke of strength of character and bravery, change within one's self, great potential, overcoming fears, and building long-lasting companionship. Then again, each year Master Eraqus' speech moves the teenager, but yet he remains the same timid and frightened person he was when he first arrived at the academy.

When the crowd laughed at Master Eraqus' size joke, Mushu looked around, rather confused about why the joke was so hilarious. "I don't get it," said the tiny dragon. "He must be talkin' 'bout you, 'cause y'all know this ain't my real size. I'm travel size for yer convenience. If I were my actual size, all them other Galiants would die of fright." he said to his Keeper.

Eugene smirked.

When the food finally arrived, Eugene's mouth began to water. He hadn't eaten much during lunch so he did not hesitate to grab the first thing set before him: a thick slab of medium-rare steak. He quickly grabbed the bowl of mashed potatoes and veggies beside the plate of meat, then the warm rolls beside those. He filled his plate and began to eat with much gusto.

Mushu cringed in disgust at the matter of which the boy ate, dodging bits of food that would fly off his plate. "You know, we have to work on your people skills." The water-bender stopped and looked around, gulping down whatever food he had in his mouth, then shrank back in his seat. The (tiny) long dragon grab a tiny bowl of rice and tiny chopsticks and began to eat.

When the others began to talk about their free period, Eugene so desperately wanted to join them, but couldn't bring himself to say anything. He, too, had a free period in the morning for running, but would gladly give it up for a chance to make new friends.

If only he could--"YAOW!" cried the boy, jumping forward in his seat.

Mushu crawled up the boy's seat and perched at the top. He had seen Eugene staring at the group and became impatient with his hesitation. he fanned his tiny claws forward, as if saying "c'mon, stupid," urging the teenager to tell the others about his free period. "I ain't bitin' no mo' butts," whispered the dragon.

Gene cleared his throat. "I mean... I-I-I have a f-free period in the m-morning. I, uh... you know... I can, uh... come and, uh, ex-explore, and stuff," he said, desperately avoiding eye contact while twiddling his thumbs.
