Ruven, huh? She'd remember that, maybe track him down later to thank him a little more properly. Keeping most of her weight off of her injured leg, she watched him make his way back to the group of boys before she turned her attention to the eggs again. There was a little bit of a pause, then finally, two more greens broke free - most importantly, two greens who didn't seem like they'd be causing any trouble. That was a relief.

Four dragons Impressed, and three milling about on the sands. Was this really normal for a hatching? She could have sworn people talked about how quickly it was over - was it taking so long because it was at night? Melina didn't much mind - she was used to being up nights, but the suspense was something she'd never forget. She stifled a sigh as they appeared to be heading over to the males, but one of the little greens was headed towards them. She gave a little smile - she thought all of the greens were adorable. Five though so far out of the clutch of thirteen...almost half the clutch was greens. Melina thought that odd, but then again she didn't know too much about dragons. She hoped there were some higher colors hidden in there for the boys. They needed their full strength for Thread, after all, and greens couldn't fly a full Fall.

She didn't pay much attention to the rocky band or even the luminous egg. She adored the little queen, don't get her wrong, but simply didn't count herself worth of the little one. She knew nothing about dragons or how a weyr was run, and she'd be better off with someone that knew what she was about. However, she'd rather thought Cetalese would end up with the queen, so she was surprised that Ceta had Impressed a green. A rather hyper one, at that. Halith made the little orbiting green seem not all that bad!

Jayden watched as yet another green hatched from its shell..and two of them seemed to be coming towards the boys. Of course with that Orbiting green that didn't really mean all the much - she was just as likely to flit off again when something distracted her as impress it seemed like..though to his eye she did look like she was getting just a bit more tired..or at least her stride wasn't nearly as bouncy as it had been. He hoped she impressed before she got to tired and did herself harm.

All the dragonets on the sands had come from eggs Jayden felt were nice good tempered creatures and so he wasn't especially worried about anything bad happening anytime soon - hopefully all of that had already been dealt with earlier on in the hatching

Another Green? Gauden stared at the three dragonets now on the Sands, all quiet and all Green. He looked at the remaining eggs and shook his head slightly. He was starting to wonder if that Mystweed Lena had talked about at the betting had something to do with this. There were more Greens than he thought was normal for the Clutch. What did that make now? Five out of 13? At this rate if any more hatched they would make half the Clutch.

As a pair of Greens headed toward him and the other Candidates, Gauden moved aside a bit so they could see the choices behind him. He knew he wouldn't ride Green, so there was no point in standing in the way, even if they were both calm.

He was a little concerned at the sheer number of Greens, but more for the idea of the Clutch than for himself. He had his Craft to fall back on, and he had no doubt that if he didn't Impress this time his father would pull him back to the Craft anyway as proof he didn't belong here. Or, potentially, he could let Gauden stay another Clutch, but that was unlikely and if it happened, he would be here only that one Clutch more. Two failures would be akin to concrete proof that Gauden was not meant to be a rider and the Searchdragon had clearly erred.

Oh? Yet another green hatched from her egg, and there were now three of them wandering about the Sands. It concerned S'koi a small bit that while the greens from the guiding light and brilliant flash eggs split off to go find Theirs, the first green still had yet to really try to find Hers. She didn't appear to be the least bit worried or distressed, but she did look to be tiring out a bit. Only natural, considering the dragonet was newly hatched and had yet to eat. But why did she not look for Hers?

Perhaps she already knows who is Hers and is simply trying to play with and greet her siblings, Laith suggested, trying to assuage her rider's worries.

Perhaps, he agreed, though it would still be better for her to be fed sooner rather than later. He remembered quite well how much care young dragonets needed, and while playing around on Sands might have been quite fun, the green would have plenty more opportunity to interact with her siblings later. He hoped they wouldn't have to see any young dragonets go Between this hatching.

Cetalese slowly stroked the neck of her lifepartner, finally having a chance to enjoy the awe of being paired to a dragon. Admittedly, since her chance at enjoying the moment of Impression had been somewhat ruined by Halith's need to go running off, Cetalese had skipped that moment of joy and happiness and at least retained some semblance of emotional dignity, if not dignity of appearance. Not that she noticed either way now that she was actually spending time

Cetalesemine? ... I'm bored. As suddenly as that, Halith began gobbling again and Cetalese's attention was diverted from brushing the sand from her Halith's hide.

Don't rush, you'll choke, Ceta repeated again. She was gratified to see that Halith chewed a bit more, though she didn't slow down very much.

That cemented it. The other eggs had to be atypicals. It was the only reason they would take so long. Once the queen and the rocky band egg hatched, Balt felt confident blacks and crimsons and silvers would start popping up on the sands. Until then he would just have to try and contain himself. He held out hope that the rocky band egg would remember him. Shifting his weight, he looked into the stands in search of familiar faces to occupy his time with, but it was too dark to see. Once again, he completely missed his father.

As the three greens made their way towards the candidates the distant sea egg started to rock and crack in places. Distracted once more the orbiting green stopped and turned to head back over towards it, but the guiding light green quickly stepped in front of her and nudged her gently back towards the candidates. The orbiting green, however, didn't seem too interested in good advice and tried to get past her sister to head over towards the mid-sized egg. Without any sign of frustration the guiding light hatchling stepped in front of her again and gave her another nudge, this time rumbling encouragement at the same time: it really was time for her to go to her rider now. Giving a slight huff the orbiting green seemed to assent, and once more turned towards the candidates as the distant sea egg continued to crack.

Meanwhile the brilliant flash green had reached the female candidates and was taking the time to investigate each of them in turn with sniffs and nudges. She walked straight past Eliza, heading on to inspect Kytara, and then Melina, and on through the other girls. Her investigation of all the girls was over eventually, and humming to herself she turned around and headed back to the one girl she hadn't greeted.

"Well now I know who's who, Eliza, you simply must tell me all I've missed; your Velath wants to know every single detail!"

Melina held stock still as the little dragonet inspected first Kytara, then herself. Is this it? she thought, pulse hammering. Then, just like that, the little one passed her by, going on to examine the rest of the girls. She suddenly had new respect for those that stood more than one hatching - how did they stand the suspense every single time? And the disappointment each time at not being chosen? This was getting to be rather too much for the normally even-tempered Star Smith. She wasn't used to this much excitement and tension, and it was starting to wear her out.

Good to see the orbiting green was finally being reigned in. He was tired of seeing green everywhere and hoped they would all Impress soon. Noticing movement amongst the eggs, Balt turned his attention toward the distant sea egg and watched it eagerly. He uncrossed his arms, leaning his head forward slightly.

Nawa tensed a little when the green headed for and investigated the girls, unable to quite help it, but it was clear the dragonet wasn't going to hurt anyone. She was just looking, and eventually did find the one girl she wanted. And while that was going on, the guiding light green got her infinitely distractable sister in line. Would the orbiting green finally choose someone, now that she had someone to keep her on track, or would she find something else to investigate?

Another egg was breaking, too! What color would it be this time? Another green? A blue? They hadn't had a brown yet...

Gauden didn't know the girl who Impressed next, but he was interested in the rocking of the distant sea egg. He was still guessing Brown, but with the way the Clutch was going he was about to change his guess to yet another, albeit larger, Green. Seriously, if this was the result of Mystweed, Gauden thought the weyr could safely consider it a failed experiment, since the point as Lena had told it to him was to provide a Gold and other higher colors.

S'ren was pleased to see that another of the dragonets appeared to have found Hers. Thus far things were really going quite well this hatching. Five dragons impressed, eight left to go. Would one by chance go to Lena?

If not this Turn, then perhaps the next, Tereth suggested, eyes still on the proceedings below.

Perhaps. He had actually been her age when Tereth was born, but everyone Impressed at different times, if at all. At least she had the spirit to handle things if by chance a dragon wasn't meant for her.

"Oh!" Ceta exclaimed as she saw the hatchling stop in front of Eliza. She had missed the Green's circling of the other girls, but this she saw. I think Eliza has Impressed!

You see? She will not be left on the Sands and you will not be separated from her. And they can help us go exploring later!

Cetalese looked back to Halith, startled, and then smiled slightly. Of course she had known what was worrying Ceta, even if the thought had been at the back of her mind with so much to do with Halith right now. It was good to know that at least she and Eliza would be together for their Weyrling lessons. She barely knew anyone else at the weyr by more than name and the personality traits she had gleaned from them with her ability to observe.

After the fighting green and blue had Impressed, V’al felt somewhat more at ease and as the hatching continued, he watched the new dragonets emerge and find their places with a less grim expression. He kept a wary eye on the orbiting green, worried that its strength would wan suddenly, but couldn’t help but notice the faces of Candidates he had stood with at the last clutch. Some were gone, but some, he noted half-fondly, were taking their new lifemates to the meat bowls. However, there were still a few standing anxiously on the sands, including a particular weyrbrat that he watched with a wry sort of expression.

Balt. I remember, Lerath noted with a bit of pride. Draconic memory was notoriously faulty, especially among the smaller colors, but the blue had an uncanny way of recalling things. He didn’t like you.

I don’t care much for him either. V’al snorted and refocused his attention on the meandering flock of wobbly wings below. But if a hatchling takes a liking to him I think he’d do well in a wing.
