Maddy yawned, her little snake coiled around her, resting her serpentine head between Maddy's shoudlers, seemingly asleep. Maddy would have loved a rest but now she'd eaten that beetle, her stomach growled, so while she dug for treasures, she searched for food too, she found a particularly juicy mouse that she killed fast and woke her little snake friend up, giving it to the baby to eat. She smiled as the snake uncoiled from her and slithered to the floor, happily swallowing her mouse. Maddy went back to digging, she would find treasures of two kinds, if she could, shiny ones and edible ones.

 This time Kuza worked fast, paws flying with renewed energy as she scrapped away the thick mud and started to deepen her hole. It wasn't too long before things started to come out but none of it was at all interesting, even her new avian friend gave up watching and started to make a nest out of the dug-up its of old twig and root, using the sloppy mud to pack in the sides. Aiolos had built quite an impressive mound before Kuza suddenly dived head-first into her hole with an excited cry. Startled the bird jumped into the air with a loud squark before flapping and gliding over to hop up to the edge of the hole, peering in wiht his head cocked sideways.
"What'cha got?" He chirped curiously as Kuza gripped something in her jaw and was tugging away as hard as she could. It was only after a great effort and some encouragement by way of beak-pecking that she managed to haul the item free, nearly landing on her rump as the thing finally popped out the hole and landed beside her.
Both youngsters turned to stare at it, Kuza carefully cleaning it with the back of her paw until it sat glinting dully in the light. "Hmm.. it looks like..... " Trailing off the pair of them shared a look. ".. a gaint claw!" Kuza cried, bouncing about in excitement.

Keahi opted to ignore his new-found snake... Well, mostly. He still went over, giving up stalking. For a moment, he watched the mongoose, his blue eyes not seeming to reflect anything. As he got ready to pounce, a tickling in his ear stopped him.
"Leave them be, cub. Besides... I have no name yet!"
He looked at the snake, then nodded, padding away. He'd worry about the mongoose another time. Instead, he returned to his hole, going back to digging.

Thrilled with her newest find Kuza spent a fair time pulling it to one side, for it was rather big and surprisingly heavy for something so thin, but finally she got it safely out the way and next to her discarded mud pile. The pair of them talked excitedly over it for a while, well Kuza was excited, the bird was more interested in pecking at his reflection as it glinted in the bright sunlight.
But finally they left the ancient blade ad returned to the hole. Kuza cleared out the loose mud from where they had freed the weapon, and then resumed digging, slowly widening the hole as the pile of mud behind her grew.

Maddy stopped, some instinct made her look up, but she only saw a cub and a small snake, a baby, turn away. She shrugged and smiled at her own little snake friend, she knew she'd have to leave her behind eventually, the baby probably had parents nearby. She dug and dug until her claws hit something hard, scratching in the dirt she uncovered another pretty stone, except this one was more than pretty, or it would be when she cleaned it up in a stream or other small water source. She tucked it under her and carried on digging further in the soil, maybe there were more.

Claws clogged with mud and muck, muscles starting to ache again, the young lioness kept digging, determined to find all that she could. A few bones came up, a skull of some small rodent and then something far larger, the skull of a lion! It was fairly difficult getting the thing out as the mud kept collapsing back in and re-burying it, but eventually she managed to heave the bone free and dropped it very carefully beside the hole. Her and Aiolos spent along time going over it, creeped out but fascinated as many youngsters were by the ancient bleached bones.
Eventually it was pushed to the side to join the small pile of other items, the glittery stones looking particularly strange next to the pale bone. Keeping one eye on the skull a little nervously, feeling as if it was watching her, Kuza resumed digging.
