Annette looked up from her desk and paperwork. She had almost forgotten that Amelia was going to be serving detention with her this evening, that she was about ready to leave for dinner. She smiled and waved for her to come in. As she did so, Annette stood up and walked around to the front of her desk. "Come in, take a seat for a moment. I first want to talk to you, then we can get started with what I have planned."

User ImageAmelia nodded, coming forward and sitting down in the nearest desk to the Professor. She should have expected this. More reprimanding. At least this time it should make sense. What she wasn't looking forward too was the disappointment she could already feel inside of the professor. It made her want to cry instantaneously. Pressing her tongue on the roof of her mouth to hold back the slowly coming tears, she asked, "Yes ma'am?" her voice just a little shaky. She couldn't keep still, feeling as if she was under close scrutiny and continued to fiddle with her hands, unable to find a comfortable place for them. Eventually she ended up sitting on them in order to hold still.

Annette took a seat on her desk like a child. She smiled to Amelia. "When I was little, everytime I would do something wrong, my mom would never punish me. Annette looked down and thought for a moment about the times she did something wrong. "Instead, she would talk me through what I did. Then, she would give me suggestions what to do instead, or what to do differently. Then, instead of sending me to clean something, or to my room for the rest of the night, we would spend about an hour together organizing something, or going through an old stack of boxes in the attic. But it was always together, never alone." Annette stood up, and turned to face her desk. "Now, I know that I am in no way your mother, but I would like to think that you may think of me as someone to look up to. I hope I don't seem like a bad person to you, any way.. So I was thinking, maybe we could just talk about this before we started. What were you thinking when you decided to do this?" She asked.

[[Edit: Sorry!! I was on the phone with my mom!]]

User Image((Sorry for the delay, my internet is pretty much failing due to the fact that it's cloudy. Yay for satellite internet huh?))

Amelia stared at her. She'd never been punished? Never? Amelia couldn't count the times she'd been taught her lesson until she was black and blue. And then she'd be sent to her room alone until her big brother sneaked in to comfort her. Amelia sniffled a little, before responding,
"Olli and I keep getting lost. I'm learning new shortcuts, but there are so many I get confused. We were told there was a map of Hogwarts in the Headmistress's office. If she was willing to give it up, she would have already so we were planning on borrowing it, memorizing or copying it and then returning." The last part hadn't been discussed, but it was Amelia's plan. Unconsciously, she wrapped her arms about herself, her lip quivering. Closing her eyes, she thought what else was she thinking? She knew to be honest; for all she knew Professor Soul could read minds, so she added, "I get in trouble a lot...but I...it's fun. I like making people laugh or entertaining myself." She lowered her face, her hair falling forward to conceal it, while she whispered, "I know I'm bad. I do try not to get in trouble." A big sniffle gave away that she'd started to cry. She felt like a little kid again. And she was just trying to appease the professor before her real punishment happened, whatever that may be.

Annette was actually not very surprised at her answer. She nodded understandingly, and turned to face her. "Amelia, I want to tell you something. I had a friend just like you once. She actually looked very similar to you, but that could be jsut a coincidence. Anyway, this girl, her name was Lissa, loved to be adventerous. She would spend all day exploring the castle. By the end of her fifth years she knew every hall way and every single room in this school. But, doing that was of great cost to her. One time, she walked into a classroom with this 25 foot dog. Do you know what happened? Annette bit her lip for a second, but then continued. "The dog ate her hand. Of course, Madam Pomfrey, the school nurse at the time, was able to cure her. She regained her hand, but it was still a scary experience for her to go through. After her hand was regrown, she had detention for three weeks and lost 25 house points." Annette sighed. Hopefully this story was getting somewhere. "Lissa was constantly pulling pranks and getting in trouble. She may have had a lot of fun, but by her messing around so often, she ended up getting expelled out of this school in the middle of her sixth year. Now, Headmistress sing would never do that to you unless you really did something horrible. I never could see you doing something like that, but I just want you to be careful, okay? Maybe next time, you could ask the headmistress or another teacher if they could help you navigate around the school a little better?" Annette thought back to when she was a first year. Yes, she got lost vey frequently. But, after memorizing the halls she walked in, and the people she saw walking in the opposite direction, she got the hang of it. "It just takes a little time to get used to. Now what do you say? We get this detention over with?"

User ImageAmelia's tears came faster. She couldn't imagine being expelled. She couldn't leave this place, no, here was right where she belonged. Practically hyperventilating, she assured the professor, "I'd never do anything that bad. I promise. I'll stay here. I'll stay here." the end was more of a comfort to herself than to prove it to Annette. The very idea of being expelled had put the fear of god in her, causing her pale skin to lighten more so and her eyes to stay wide. She nodded her response, knowing the detention was nothing compared to being expelled.

"I'm very glad about that, dear. Annette stood up and walked towards the back of the room. She turned her head towards Amelia and gestured her to follow.

Annette came to the very back of the room where her supply closet was. From the outside, it looked rather small. But once you stepped in, it was rather large. Actually, it was like an attic. She stepped in and waved her wand. The lights came on in the room, and she walked in farther. Inside the room was her past; inside was her everything. She couldn't surpress a smile everytime she walked in the room. When she came in, she waved her wand, and a couch moved towards her. Then, she again, waved her wand. A few different boxes came her way. "We, together, have to find a very special kind of paper, for the next lesson I have planned. Then, once we do, you are free to go." Since Annette had no idea where it was in her large memory-filled room, she thought having some help would be useful. "I would summon it, but this room is very full of paper, and I'm sure this paper is charmed to not move from this room..." She sighed, wishing she wouldn't have put so many protection charms on her things.

Amelia Frances

User ImageIn truth, Amelia was not a bad kid. She was a hard worker, usually finishing things before the deadline, and she reacted to every emotion someone had. Only once had she hurt someone, and that was her magic's attempt to save her life. Otherwise, she made sure there was no target in her tricks that would find pain in the laughter. She just had spent years being told she was bad; she had to believe her father right?

Still, she was terrified of speaking out of turn in front of her now scariest teacher, so she simply nodded and raised her hand tentatively. If there was a lot of paper there, she would need more of a description than "very special." Personally she hoped that the professor would figure out the question and answer without her having to speak. All that she could do was repeat in her mind expulsion, expulsion, expulsion. She still looked on the brink of tears. That talk was worse than she was expecting. And in truth she'd rather be alone right now, curled up in bed crying. But she knew she had a job to do, and she would do it. This time not just because she wanted to be like her father taught her to be, but also from fear of being expelled over not doing it. Professor Soul had forgotten to mention what exactly she could be expelled for, so she was going to be scared of everything just in case.

Seeing the look on Amelia's face, she knew that she accomplished something. But, she hoped it was the right thing. She knew that every time she did something wrong, her mom didn't try to make her feel horrible, but she ultimately felt worse because she knew that what she did was wrong. "Annette, I just wanted to tell you, although I haven't graded it yet, that your paper was very successful. I enjoyed all the reasons you came up with, and I think because all of your answers were creative, I am going to award you ten house points for a job well done." Annette was trying to lighten the mood, but didn't think it was going to work. She probably scared the poor girl. That really made Annete feel bad. So, she took a seat on the couch, and pulled a box forward. Opening it, she found a huge stack of papers - newspapers to be exact. She smiled when she saw them. She was in every single one of those papers for something. Transfiguring genius at Hogwarts! and Third year is accepted into advanced Transfiguring course at Hogwarts. They were almost all about her transfiguring work at the school, accept for a few about other classes. Rita Skeeter did put her on the cover when she was doing well, because Rita and Annette's dad dated once. She didn't want to get on his bad side, so she only said good things about Annette. They were all true things, but not things that Annette wanted to be floating around the school.

Annette closed the box and pushed it away from her. She pulled another box towards her, and started to look through that one too. It was just another box of pictures, but ones of her and her friends at the school. The one on the top was one of her and Lissa. She pulled it out and handed it to Amelia. "She was brilliant, just like you, Amelia. See how much you look alike?" She pointed to their similar hair color, and the icy blue eyes. They had similar face structures too, which was also a very strange thing. But, she missed her friend Lissa, with a lot of her heart. She wished she were still in england.

Ninna Smith's bare feet made a quiet 'smack' sound on the stone floors with each step she took. She couldn't remember quite where she left her shoes but she didn't mind too much. She entered the classroom quietly and settled herself down in a vacant seat, her legs swinging gently below her.

User ImageSwallowing Amelia could sense Professor Soul’s attempts to lighten the mood. It was hard to think anything besides her panic, but she tried, if only not to get yelled at. In a quiet voice, she thanked her, but she didn’t consider that she only had 25 points now to break even once more. She’d worked hard on coming up with ideas, but she’d done so earlier to please her. Secretly, she was now glad she did, though her unease was still there.

Forgetting her fear for a moment, Amelia let her curiosity take over,
“What are those?” she asked, trying to peer at them before she closed them. She’d never seen the Wizarding newspaper before, only heard about the Daily Prophet from Meiko. Seeing her quickly hide them, Ammy remembered her place, mumbling an apology for her nosiness.

As she went to another box, Amelia went to a third, opening it, but before she could look inside, Annette talked to her. Her eyes widened when she saw it. Not only did the picture look like her, with her pure white hair and startling blue eyes,
“She looks like my aunt.” Whose liked to be called Lissa usually. Surprise was written on her face as she asked, ”Lissa’s a nickname right? Short for Melissa?” If not, then it wasn’t her aunt. But if so….no wonder she’d been so accepting of the idea. Thoughts and possibilities were racing through Amelia’s head.

Annette said "Oh, don't apologize. Those are Wizarding newspapers, and well, those are all the covers I managed to get on.. You could look at them if you wanted to." She sighed, wishing Rita wasn't so interested in her. She was not nearly as interested in Annette now that Annette's father had completely forgotten about Rita, which was a good thing for Annette.

Annette smiled to the thought of Melissa being Amelia's aunt. They did look awfully alot alike. That was why she liked Amelia as a student so much. "Really? On which side of your family? And yes, Lissa was a nick name. Melissa was her full first name. She just didn't enjoy the name Melissa very much." Annette continued to dig through another box. At the very bottom, a stack of white, glossy paper was found. She smiled and said "Oh! There it is. This paper I created years ago.. We will be using it in the next unit. Hopefully the instructions are here somewhere..." She dug at the bottom of the box a little more, and the instructions on how to use and make the paper were there. It was a combination of different potions and spells cast on the paper. "You are free to go, Amelia. Thank you for your help! Oh, and listen, please try not to get into any more trouble. I may not be there to get you out of cleaning trophies next time." Annette stood up and waved her wand at the boxes, which slid back into place without a bit of hesitation.

As Annette came out of the supply room, she smiled to see an even newer student sitting at the desk. "Why, hello there. Who are you, may I ask?"

((Hey, Ninna, if you wouldn't mind, could you glance at the first page and complete the first assignment? Thanks!=] ))

User ImageAmelia was shocked. She hadn't done anything. Would she tell the Headmistress on her? And her aunt...what if? She couldn't send an owl to her, she'd be utterly confused. Professor Soul was the only option Amelia had to know. Still, she knew she was dismissed. With the lingering fear of expulsion, she obediently nodded to her professor. Seeing the new girl in the class room, she gave her a smile, that came more easily due to the girl's obvious good heart, but she didn't stay to talk. With a quick wave, she was out the door, heading for the Great Hall to find Olli. She wasn't sure if she could eat, but it was the best place to find her.
