Can't find it for much under £30 either, so I'm putting it on hold until a couple of other things get out of the way.

I wouldn't hold your breath for it to get much cheaper, either - at least not in the near future.

Well, if you can't afford DM at the moment, you could do worse than taking a look at the "spin-off". Count Duckula's third and final series is out on DVD now (and yes, that includes the so-called fourth season of about 6 episodes). I picked mine up from thehut.com for about £11.99. Play's listing it at £13.99. If the previous boxset is anything to go by, it's very much plain vanilla, but it is *all* the episodes, including some I've been waiting for for a while.
Unreal Estate - "Your work so far is less than polished, so unless you want to be demolished, take me where, before too late, there's a lot of cash in real estate!"
There Are Werewolves at the Bottom of Our Garden - "Igor, do we have a werewolf?"
A Christmas Quacker - "It's the same every year. I get all around the world in no time at all, then spend the rest of Christmas Eve lost in Castle Duckula!"
The other two boxsets are available for around £15 if you shop around a bit.
I have no idea why the R1 releases haven't continued - the R1 boxset had loads of extras. Maybe it didn't sell well? Still, if you're a US fan, fear not. The vampire duck is actually R0 in the UK, so there's no particular reason why you can't import a copy.
However, I can't watch mine yet. I'm partway through my season 1 Xena: Warrior Princess - complete boxset, £9.99. Thank you, play.com!

A quick muse on the subject of air order versus production order:
I'm watching Count Duckula's "Unreal Estate", which as I said in my previous post, has long been a favourite of mine. It contains all the classic elements:
Nanny demolishing the place; Igor trying to get his master to sink his teeth into a village maiden (or at least to stalk the ramparts for a bit); Von Goosewing appearing; Duckula teleporting with a flash of lightning; Duckula inventing a rhyme (or three) to get the Castle moving; Duckula referring to the ramshackle, tumbledown, worm-eaten old heap and Igor believing he's referring to Nanny; Igor denying the existence of the Castle werewolf; Sviatislav & Dimitri telling an appalling joke...
Anyhow, I'd always assumed it came fairly early in the series - certainly not in series 3. There's the scene with Duckula playing a mouth organ until Igor forcibly removes it from his mouth that was in the opening credits for all 3 series. Von Goosewing is shown reading the newspapers and seeing (in the Undeaths column) a report of Count Duckula's reincarnation. Von Goosewing puts on "anti-vampire hypnosis" goggles and consequently mistakes a mop head for his assistant, Heinrich.
All these things are pretty much setting up trademark situations for the rest of the show. So why on earth air them in the final series?
Another pointer is that Duckula's voice is not quite right - it's a little high-pitched and synthesised. There's also no gag credit that I could see - something which popped up around halfway through series 1.
Still, this does not detract from my enjoyment of a fantastic episode smile

EDIT: how could I have forgotten Sviatislav and Dimitri?

If I were going to splurge, I'd get these:
http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Man-UNCLE-Complete-Series-Press-Release/8152
Unfortunately, I'm not about to spend $250 all at once on DVDs.
Still, I can wait for Warners to release the seasons separately in 2008. I haven't seen this show in years, but I was a big fan in my youth. BBC2 was rerunning it on Friday evenings I think (with Randall & Hopkirk: Deceased and The Persuaders! and all sorts of 60s and 70s goodies). I used to record it as I was going out for oboe lessons, but foolishly I never kept any.
I'm not entirely sure why I like it so much. David McCallum & Robert Vaughn were a great team - they both had a sense of humour, but two very different types of humour. There were lots of action and mystery and gadgets and things. It was about as believable as your average James Bond (of which it was technically a spin-off), but very entertaining. I hear the third season just got silly and became more like "Get Smart!" than a proper spy show, but there you go smile
In the meantime, I have around 20 Man from UNCLE books that I can read to remind myself of the UNCLE universe.
And there's also "NCIS" to watch for David McCallum - and season 5 of "The A-Team" for Robert Vaughn smile

Double posting for a *very* good reason:
http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Mysterious-Cities-Gold-DVD-Rights-Acquired/8176
US only, curses! I'm not sure what happened with the UK release, but anyhow, good news for some.
I'll stick with my French boxset though...

EDIT for being in too much of a rush to post: there *will* be a UK release, tentatively scheduled for February 2008, apparently. If you care to visit www.fabulousfilms.co.uk you can sign up to be notified of further developments - and you can also submit questions for the DVD extras (rumoured to include an interview with Jean Chalopin). So, fans of the Golden Condor, get over there quickly!!!

Latest MCoG news has me drooling:
http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Mysterious-Cities-Gold-Update/8660
I'm not generally a big fan of HMV and even less of their over-priced "exclusives", but even I might be tempted if they really do have a medallion biggrin
Here's hoping also that the Beeb cooperates and allows footage from the Broom Cupboard singalongs.
Children of the sun See your time has just begun Searching for your way Through adventures every day.
Every day and night With the Condor in flight With all your friends in tow You search for the Cities of Gold....
Of course, if you can't wait, a well-known website currently has a video clip. *gets all nostalgic about Andy Crane, Philip Schofield & Sarah Greene*

Someone bought me a Del Toro boxset as a present: Cronos, The Devil's Backbone and Pan's Labyrinth.
We were prowling the sales in HMV, and it cost £15 - a good deal if you can find anywhere with any left.

All 3 are brilliant films, too. Anyway, I'm currently leaning toward Carnivale, which has dropped to £18 a season.

This oddly-named Zavvi place seem to be the people doing it, though I'm unsure if it's national or just my local one.

If you walk outside your house tomorrow and find yourself in the UK, you might do worse than pick up a copy of The Times. Apparently they're spending a week or so giving away old kids' TV shows. This weekend was Mr Benn and Captain Pugwash.
Judging by the radio adverts, tomorrow it is the turn of the World's Greatest Secret agent and his assistant Penfold, codenamed Jigsaw - because he always goes to pieces.
I've no idea which eps are on there, whether it's simply a copy of one of the commercially available discs or a best of. You never know, it could include "DM on the Orient Express" or "Ants, Trees & Whoopsy-Daisy" smile
Judging by the Times website, it looks like this ties in with some survey they've done of kids' shows. Provided The Simpsons isn't top again, I don't care. Repeat after me: "The Simpsons is not a children's programme!"
In the meantime, may I just say that that competition for a DM cel is mine, mine, mine I tell you!
*cackles maniacally*
DW
EDIT: according to the quiz on The Times' website, I am Colonel K. "Stonehenge. Flashing lights and weird goings on. Got the boffins worried... Love-15 DM!"
