Jack decided he was never going to get tired of seeing Kaito blush. It drew his fascination like a color really shouldn’t have. It was just pigment. Blood under the surface of the skin reacting to a flight or fight scenario and too much adrenaline being pumped into the body to combat whatever danger was present. If Jack was the only thing that could make Kaito blush, did that make him the danger? The only thing that Kaito wanted badly enough to run from or fight? But he didn’t do it, did he? He’d had the entire day to run away and Jack hadn’t exactly been subtle with his interest in the boy. Between the display in the cafeteria and earlier advances in the room, Kaito had had more than enough time to find somewhere else to be.

He heard the word and hesitated for a moment. Again, he was used to people who swore or yelled or would have simply headbutted him if he’d put them in that position. He’d been prepared for Kaito freezing up on him or returning the glare. A hissed equivalent of a slap in the face maybe. But no, Kaito just had to be different. Had to do the unexpected every ******** time. Why was he doing this? He had to know the redhead was absolutely drawn to the unpredictable the way a moth zoomed straight towards a bug zapper. Not to mention the tone had sent of a shock of rather more pleasant interest straight down to Jack’s lower anatomy.

He let out a soft groan of frustration and annoyance, letting his forehead rest gently against the other boy’s for a moment. No. No way. Somehow Kaito had a already gotten a certain control over him. He’d picked up his towel at the boy’s request for god’s sake. He wasn’t going to give Kaito up and let someone else discover that blush or the way the boy sounded when he was pinned like this. Violet eyes narrowed to slits and he tilted his head, moving down to find Kaito’s neck.

Lips brushed it very softly for a second, hovered, and then softly bit down. He did it quickly, counting on shock to keep the blue eye’d boy in place long enough for him to suck and tease blood to the surface in the form of an angry red mark. Jack had given Kaito a hickey right at the spot where neck met shoulder. It would be possible to hide with a collared shirt, but just as easy to expose with one quick tug on the material. “Now you don’t have to say it,” he said against the spot, pulling back as he let the hands go free.

A look of satisfaction settled on his face as he eyed the red mark.

Kaito wasn't sure whether to feel hopeful or disappointed when Jack hesitated after his whispered word. He was sure he wouldn't want whatever other contact the red-head would initiate between them and yet he felt himself responding to it all the same. The blue haired artist didn't even get to fully decided what he was feeling when the male straddling him groaned softly and pressed his head against the blue bangs covering Kaito's own forehead.

Deciding to ignore his rapid breathing and attempt to gain some control of the situation, Kaito opened his mouth to ask him to move. He never got it out before lips touched his neck. Instantly he jerked against the hold with a strangled sound in the back of his throat, a sound that only got louder when the soft brush turned into a bite. Had his brain not just fully shut down he would have been beyond embarrassed at the small sound of pleasure that was drawn out by the quick bite and sucking.

"Jack."Kaito wasn't even aware he'd panted the other boy's name, whether to ask him to stop or for the fact that his whole body was now on fire. When the red-head pulled back, releasing his hands, with a pleased sounding comment Kaito simply slumped against the wall, practically liquid. His eyes having dropped to half-mast and slightly dazed he tried to get his breathing under control as he vaguely started realizing what he must look like. He licked dry lips quickly in order to pant out the word he wanted.

"a*****e."It would have sounded so much better if he hadn't been half-breathless sounding while saying it. The look of satisfaction on the other male's face had his heating up with a brilliant blush once more as he could practically FEEL the bruise on his neck. He shot him a short glare that was ruined by the fact he hadn't pulled his emotionless shields back into place, but he refused to lift a hand and touch the now super-sensitive portion of his neck.

Jack stood up, careful not to pinch part of Kaito’s body as he slid off of him and stood up again. He eyed the blushing face and the slightly wet bruise and it was about all he could do to continue standing. A part of himself he was very displeased with wanted to crawl back onto the bed, hug Kaito, and explain and generally be a ******** girl about the entire thing. It was easy enough to drop a brick of pride on that impulse and squash it. The part of him that recommended the crawling back onto the bed but suggested pushing things in a different direction was harder to quell, but was eventually pushed back as well. He didn’t think he could push Kaito any farther without pushing him completely away. Even if he insisted on looking like that.

Jack let his lips curl into a smirk that bordered on a sneer. “At least I can show it if I ******** want something,” he said. He didn’t know what to do with his hands. He would have shoved them in his pockets but he was still only wearing the sweatpants he’d thrown on after the shower and it would have looked stupid. He didn’t want to look stupid, he wanted to look confident and sure and in control of himself. If he could convince Kaito of that, maybe he could convince his own rattled nerves.

And with that less than articulate parting shot, Jack crossed the few feet back to his own bed, ripping down the blanket in a vicious jerk. His fingers found the button on the lamp that illuminated his portion of the room and clicked it off, the light from Kaito’s half throwing everything into shadow rather than complete darkness. It was still too early for him to have normally gone to bed, but the energy he’d regained from the nap had gone straight out the window, completely used up in the heated confrontation on Kaito’s bed.

He sank into the bed and pulled the blanket up to his waist, twisting to turn his bare back to Kaito. Yes, he knew he was acting like a child throwing a tantrum, but he was becoming increasingly frustrated in multiple ways. And though he would have killed anyone who suggested such a thing, he was a bit hurt that every effort involved in trying to gain Kaito’s attention had only managed to illicit sarcasm and small sounds that were very possibly merely physical reactions. Physical was great, but it wasn’t all he wanted. Hurt of that nature did not sit well with Jack and he’d bottled it up and converted the feeling straight back into anger. Eyes shut, he latched onto the positive. And especially the way Kaito had said his name a few moments before.

Kaito bite his tongue, physically stopping the need to make a sound of protest as his roommate moved away. It was all he could do because otherwise he couldn't seem to get his body to react to his commands as it preferred to remain slumped against the headboard. He couldn't stop the slate orbs from following his movement as he stood by the edge of the bed. They got a front row seat to what equated with a sneer and a statement that snapped his eyes wide.

Without another sound Jack stormed back to his bed and ripped the covers off before shutting his lamp off and driving that side of the room into darkness so only the single lamp was keeping it lite. Stiff now Kaito watched him pull the overs partially up and turn his back on him. Unfortunately, Kaito had no experience with people he actually cared about. He had only the two modes, cruel and cold. So he also had no defenses against an attack he hadn't been expecting because he'd never frankly cared before.

"I see."Kaito's tone still had emotion in it, as he started shutting down, enough emotion to have been as bitter and cold as a blizzard. Legs dropped to the floor without a sound as the light was snapped off in passing by his hand that grabbed the collection of pencil's. Hurt, not sure why or how to deal with it, he retreated to what he knew best. He shut down hard and fast behind the frigid ice of his temper.

Without looking towards the red-head he crossed the room and pulled open the door, stepping into the hallway with his notepad and a box of pencils. He was quite careful that the portal shut gently behind him and didn't make any noise. With his own anger all but biting at the ends of a pain he couldn't quite explain he moved down the hallway and towards the set of doors that lead outside. His expression cold enough to warn anyone that he wasn't in the mood to be dealt with and was subsequently given a fairly wide berth by those still moving around.

He refused to think about what was setting him off because it was too close to the surface and he was pissed off because it shouldn't have been. He DIDN'T react to something someone said, he'd had a lot worse directed at him in the past, there was no reason why that should have felt like a physical blow when it was just stupid, stupid words. He pulled deep, retreating far enough behind his shields to even stop the emotion from bothering him, not just his expression.

Jack was still until he heard the door quietly close. Only then did he allowed himself to move, flopping onto his back and staring at the ceiling. A few fingers strayed near his head and tugged gently on a few of the red locks there. Kaito’s voice had been pure ice. Of course Jack had said exactly what he had in an attempt to get a rise out of Kaito, a last ditch effort to throw back some of the pain and frustration hammering in time with his own heartbeat, so he shouldn’t have been surprised when it worked.

He wasn’t going to follow Kaito this time. Let the temperamental artist draw until he got carpal tunnel syndrome. Let him hang Jack in effigy if he wanted to, he didn’t give a damn, was absolutely determined not to give a damn. He managed to not care for about five minutes before he gave up. “…goddamnit.” he whispered.

The door opened softly once more, this time to allow the artist into the quiet room. With the sun having just made its appearance a few hours ago it wasn't likely that either of his roommates was awake for the day. He hadn't been present to even see Dion return to his room the night before. A quick sweep of empty slate orbs revealed the room was still at least partially occupied and Kaito carefully kept himself from glancing too long at one specific bed.

Crossing the room on silent feet he pulled open a drawer and dropped the notepad into the bottom. He made a mental note to pick up a new book while he was out today as he set the box of pencil and charcoal next to the used notepad at the bottom of the drawer. That drawer was closed quietly before the next was opened and a few items of clothing were pulled free. Those were held, nicely folded, under one arm as he crossed to the closet and pulled free another school uniform. This one was crisply pressed and hanging behind plastic still as Kaito lifted it free and draped it over his shoulder.

Without a backwards glance he left the room once more. This time heading towards the showers which were thankfully empty. In his current mood he would not have been responsible for the continued good health of someone who might have been using it. The cloths were set safely aside as he stepped into the stall and turned the faucet to a frigid cold. The water flattening his blue strands to his head and darkening them to a rich navy.

With quick, efficient movements he washed, using the excuse of the cold water to make sure he didn't linger. His skin taking on a paler tone at the harsh spray, but it wasn't cold enough out that it would do any damage. In a matter of minutes he was clean enough to change into his new cloths, folding the old set and putting it aside as he continued through the rest of his morning ritual. Each movement perfectly poised and timed, a long standing habit from the fact that he hated mornings.

Yukio was rather exhausted for some reason. The events from the day before wore him out dramatically. First the fight, then the chase, and now ghosts. However it was a new day. Yukio got up out of bed, wearing nothing but a pair of boxers and such. He put his pants on slowly while shaking his head. He shook his brother awake avoiding a punch that always happens when he tried to wake him. "Ai-nee, wake up idiot..."

When children are doing nothing, they are doing mischief.

He hated sleep. It wasn't because he couldn't do it, because he could enter into a sort of listless hibernation like Nick did during the off season. It was simply because nothing exciting happened while everyone was asleep. He'd wandered the halls shortly after Faust got boring and went to bed, caused a few incidents with changing people's possessions that would be entertaining once they woke up, and then finding himself bored he'd drifted towards dawn to his pets room.

The blonde was currently floating in the air on his back, one leg bent while he twirled his hat around on one finger above him. The massive shock of blonde allowed to spill haphazardly around his face without the brown hat's restraining influence. The gold orbs didn't leave watching the hat as Faust roused for the day and started pulling on his pants. One foot tapping to show how very little patience he currently had, Kit waited until the other boy went to wake a second dark haired guy.

"Let him sleep. Guy snores loud enough to wake the dead, and I'd know."
Kit drawled, not turning his head to show he was actually paying any attention to anyone else in the room despite the fact he'd spoken to one of them. With a huff of annoyance he rolled onto his stomach and tossed the hat at the back of his pets head. The object holding enough substance to smack him before disintegrating as it fell. Like everything in his possession, once it got a certain distance from him it all but turned to dust and then would reappear when he wanted it. Pretty damn cool and saved on loosing s**t.

"Then again...."he drawled with a flash of his dark smile as the pillow jerked out from under the dark haired boy's head and flattened itself out over his face. It was held on with enough pressure to resist a casual tug but not enough to actually KILL him...Kit was only playing after all. His eyes danced in delight as he waited for the dark haired boy to wake up or his pet to try and ruin his fun.

Jack was face down on his own bed, the lower half of his body hopelessly tangled in the sheets. The boy was not a very still sleeper when he was angry or upset and the night before he’d been both. The tossing and turning had bound his legs together in mummy fashion. One cheek was pressed against the pillow hard enough to leave faint marks along his jaw line when he finally blinked and began push himself up. Jack’s expression first thing in the morning was pretty far from his usual focused energy. His eyes were only half lidded and his movements were fumbling and graceless as he dug out a pair of jeans. He managed to strip out of the sweatpants and slide them on. This was made easier once his brain figured out he wasn’t supposed to put both legs in the same hole.

Deodorant, hair brush, t-shirt, hair brush again when pulling the shirt over his head screwed up the first try. He took a moment to insert the small stud and silver ring into his ear, giving it a very gentle tug to be sure it wasn’t going to fall out. Finally he moved back to the bed, pulling the lighter out from underneath his pillow. Really, his dependence on the little silver box was downright criminal. Sometimes he felt like a child holding onto their favorite stuffed animal, but the stupid thing was important to him. And speaking of stupidly important things…

Violet eyes strayed towards the other bed. He couldn’t even tell if it had been slept in. It certainly wasn’t occupied now. But damnit, Kaito would be the kind of person who would make their bed before leaving in the morning. He could easily picture that, Mr. pick-up-your-towel-it’ll-grow-mold. But his stomach clenched. If Kaito hadn’t come back all night, where would he have been? The guy had seemed barely able to tolerate the idea of sleeping on someone’s couch so where did someone like that end up spending the night? And how could he kill whoever had been on the other side of whatever door Kaito knocked on without going to jail?

Jack scowled, tugging his socks on in a way that suggested he hated the soft white fabric. Shoes were next and his fingers fumbled with the laces, half his body suggesting he crawl straight back into bed before the sheets got cold. But insisted it wanted breakfast before it would negotiate. But Jack really didn’t want to head down there alone.

He found his way out into the hall and hammered on Yukio’s door. At least, he was pretty sure it was Yukio’s door. This early in the morning anything more complicated than chewing counted as rocket science. ‘Not a morning person’ was an understatement.

“Hey, Yukio,” he called. “Breakfast. Come on.”

As Aizen's head landed on the ground, he exasperated. "Kit-dono, I'd much appreciate it if you didn't do that. It never works...." He kicked the boy's head making him roll over slightly. Just as he was about to get physical on waking him up he heard a knock on the door. His foot was right over his brother's crotch when he told Jack it was all right to come in. However once he was in, he stomped hard on him, immediately waking up the boy.

Aizen began cursing, clutching his nuts as Yukio found a somewhat clean shirt to wear. He didn't really bring much to wear, mainly because his father was too stingy too. As he sighed, He felt the blonde boy floating over him again. Actually he didn't feel it, he knew it. Yukio looked towards Jack and smiled as he always did in front of him. "Ah, coming now!"

Next time I'll try smothering him with it..."Kit drawled tipping his head slightly to one side as he watched the dark haired kid hit the ground without waking up. When Faust raised a foot right over the kid's crotch Kit's grin went straight into naughty and his eyes darkened to match. The knock on the door was ignored as there were far more entertaining things going on than whomever had come to talk to his pet.

"Nice aim."The blonde purred as the kick landed and the dark haired kid began cursing and clutching himself as a red-head called for breakfast at the door. Yukio turned to him with a grin and Kit actually paid attention to him. Arching an eyebrow as he took in the flashy appearance of the other boy. A lamp suddenly pushed its way off the table and crashed into the dark haired kid's head in order to try and get him to shut up.

"Whose your friend?"the ghost asked, drifting away from the scene of his latest attack and towards the red-head that was currently drawing his pets attention. With a brief flash of a grin he stuck a hand out and straight through the kids head wiggling his fingers from the other side.

Jack heard the call to come in and pushed the door open, expecting to see the perpetually smiling white haired boy pulling his shoes on or maybe combing his hair. He did not expect to see him posed with his foot over his roommate’s crotch. Jack couldn’t help the wince or hiss of sympathy that escaped as he watched Yukio’s method of waking up the other boy. He was suddenly very, very glad that Yukio wasn’t one of his roommates. “Damn, kid,” he said, shaking his head. There was nothing else he could really say about that.

He waited in the doorway was Yukio finished getting ready. Jack didn’t have an inkling that there were more people in the room than he could actually see. It never occurred to him to associate the sudden crash of the lamp with anything supernatural. He assumed Aizen had knocked the cord with his pained thrashings. Again, he winced, though this time it was coupled with an amused chuckle.

“Your room’s got one hell of a draft,” Jack muttered. For a moment it felt like something cold had blown right past his skull. Highly unpleasant, but it did succeed in waking him up a bit more. He frowned, but decided to ignore it, shaking his head. His attention flicked back to Yukio and he reached out, messing up the kid’s hair with one hand and giving a jerk of his head.

“Good. I’m starving.” He shoved his hands in his pockets and headed down the hall and out to the cafeteria. His footsteps were light and quick, agitation still showing in the tense line of his shoulders and the way he held himself. He was unintentionally using his ‘looking for trouble’ stance, squared as though he were about to enter a fight. When he pushed open the door to the cafeteria, it was a tad more vicious than he meant to, the door slamming hard against the wall to announce his presence.

The doors that had gently swung closed behind him swung wildly open once more seconds before a hand closed on his wrist. The pressure pulling him back and around to face the person that had caught up to him. There still was nothing in his eyes but ice, just the never ending cold. It was an odd combination with the silent liquid he wasn't aware was sliding down his cheeks. He honestly hadn't thought he could get any more numb and angry all at the same time. It was almost tiring.

"Let me go."Kaito's tone was as flat as his expression. He couldn't get the image out of his head and he was realizing now why it had been so much better to avoid emotions his whole life. He fully planned on making sure that he returned to that plan now. The cold slate orbs dropped to the hand holding him and then up to the violet orbs of his roommate as the doors swung closed once more and cut them off from the cafeteria. Alone now in the entry he acted no different, no less cold and dangerous, than he had within it. Still there was a layer of exhaustion that touched it.

"This time I'll break it, Jack."he monotoned, tugging against the hold. Yet he didn't swing his arm to the side and down which would have instantly broken the hold. He held still because some part of him couldn't resist and he hated that part more than anything at that moment that he couldn't even react properly when it was deserved. That he couldn't do anything to hurt the red-head who'd somehow broken a heart that shouldn't have even existed. If this was what 'love' did to someone...he wanted nothing to do with it. Better just to get married and mildly tolerate a complete stranger for the rest of his life.

For once Jack couldn’t be offended or angry at the blank sheet of ice covering Kaito’s eyes and shielding whatever lay behind them. Because Kaito’s own body was betraying him. He could see the tears there, making the skin they touched bright in long streaks down the side of his face. It was like watching someone slowly turn into an ice sculpture of themselves. He couldn’t tear his eyes away from the growing shine.

Jack’s expression went stubborn and he shook his head firmly. He knew without being able to explain it that if he let go of Kaito then, it would be over. There wouldn’t be a chance for reconciliation. Though the year, they might end up as half hearted friends that could manage a decent conversation if there was someone else in the room, but even picturing that felt like a death sentence. The door to the cafeteria swung shut and it was like someone had pushed the mute button on the world. The only thing he could hear was his own breathing and Kaito’s words of protest.

He stiffened when the blue haired boy threatened to break his arm. With the way Jack was holding onto him, he could probably do it to. A hard fast twist and Jack would find himself in a cast for a few months. But then his body relaxed, even if his insistent grip on the slender wrist didn’t. “Okay.”

His eyes settled on Kaito’s seeing the weariness there he knew would be in his own eyes. “Break it. I’m not letting you go.” The anger had drained out of his eyes, replaced with stubborn desperation.

Pain rippled over the ice when Jack shook his head negatively to the order to let him go. What he had expected for his words he wasn't sure, something more than what he was getting. After all, it had been Jack that had gotten so offended last night...and Jack that had kissed Yukio not even a few minutes ago. He knew some part of his threat had to have gotten through because the red-head had stiffened before relaxing once more and telling him to do it.

His own arm tensed his stance shifting subtly towards his fighting style, but that was all. He couldn't do it. It would have taken seconds to snap the bones holding him, but staring into wary violet orbs he couldn't force his body to follow through with the attack. Slowly his shoulders sagged.

"Why?"Kaito asked, empty and flat. It could have been why he wouldn't let him go, why he'd let him break his arm, why he kissed Yukio, why he'd gotten so upset last night, why Kaito couldn't control himself, a million questions that shattered against the sharp edges of the ice coating his soul. With a small shuddering sigh Kaito knew most of them didn't have answers. He was better off in the cold.

The last bit of light faded from the cold in the slate blue eyes as Kaito suddenly twisted his wrist, shifting his arm to rotate it around the one holding him and push downwards while grabbing his wrist at the same time. His body shifting forward the few inches that separated them as he tilted his head slightly and pressed tear salted lips to the red-head's own in a short, sad kiss.

"Then I'll let go."he said softly as he broke the kiss that rang with overtones of goodbye. He just couldn't. One brief day of emotions had proved how dangerous they were, how painful. If this was how everyone felt all the time then he wasn't sure how they functioned. Eyes dead more than just their usual empty, Kaito stepped back away from the other boys warmth and hoped he at least wouldn't need to take the taste of that kiss out of his mouth. His hand sliding away from the wrist he held as he turned his back on his room mate and started walking towards his rooms once more. He had to pull everything together, organize the move to a new dorm...shut himself back down. At least there had only been one person that could make him feel, as long as he stayed away, then he wouldn't have this aching pain eating away at his iced soul.
