Ignoring his change of position, she continued to carve until she looked over to the kitchen; still seeing nothing of her mother with a short sigh. Wishing she would hurry up, Nariko took another drink of the water, before shooting a chilled look to the back of his head. "I don't eavesdrop either." How the heck would she know her mother asked it, but then again he probably assume all the worst for her anyways.

"MMhn, I see." She answered plainly, despite her own curiosities. "I guess we will just enjoy the silence of the day, since you're not one for talk." It was a nice day regardless, able to hear the song birds out back enjoying the weather and the smells on the breeze. It was at least an offer that he didn't have to strain himself to answer her anymore; or better yet start yet another argument. Already she could smell the aromas from the kitchen, despite it not being done it had to be soon.

Not to pleased with her remark, he couldn't say he wouldn't do the same. Even if the conversation was held only a few feet from her.

Then she suggested silence. Finally...she would stop talking. Romeo he could deal with...but not this woman. "Never was one for talk" he remarked coldly. It was the truth. He would much rather let his actions do the talking, but there were some things that actions couldn't express....so..that was when he talked...

He looked up at the sky, letting out a sigh. He was getting only a bit impatient from waiting, but it was the thought that he was doing nothing that killed him more. He lowered his head back down and let the helmet rest on his chestplate, allowing him to shut his eyes and cat nap. The best soldiers where capable of napping while riding to their drop point in a pelican. For an ODST...that wasn't an option

Rolling her eyes, the vixen returned to her carving for the time being; taking another glance to the soldier as he seemed to settle in to nap or something. Which was a good thing, at least then she didn't have to worry about that glare burning at the back of her head.

After about five or ten minutes, she slowly stood from the table as a faint and soft hum rose from her throat; unable to be heard unless one was paying attention which she figured he wasn't due to his nap. Dropping down to pick a few flowers from the gardens, she sang in an air like voice a song she always loved in her mother's native tongue. If there was at least one thing she'd gained from her mother aside from her long locks was a voice which could sing....when she wasn't using it to harshly spit out words like venom.

Returning quietly as not to wake him as she continued her near silent singing, she arranged the few flowers quickly on the table's center knot in the wood; knowing she would put them in a vase later. After she was done, she headed into the house; deciding to give her mother a hand with bringing the things out.

Only having his eyes close didn't mean his hearing didn't function. His ears swiveled to face her, hearing the faint humming, and soon singing. He at first was about to protest, but he decided he needed to rest his eyes more than he needed to do anything else. However he was not expecting the surprisingly soothing melody to ease his conscious. Before he knew it, he was passed out asleep, with any breeze of gentle touch capable of knocking him off his rock

Quietly the vixens returned outside, bringing all the food to the table as they set it out quietly and neatly. Nariko glanced over to Dutch, slowly moving around the table till she was looking at his lowered helmeted head. Crouching down she wondered if he dreamed, and what they could be about be it good or bad.

Looking up she could see her mother nod at her, holding out the bag as promised neatly packed for him to go. Taking the bag she stood back; not sure what to expect from him waking up if he wasn't already.

"Dutch? .....Dutch.....its all ready."

He was soundly in his dream world where he was in a battle cruiser and amongst his fellow ODSTs. Even in this dream world, things seemed real, and for a brief moment, he thought maybe that the place he was in was a dream. A nightmare he made up to remind him how good he had it on the ship. He jested with his teammates and at one point, he actually laughed.

He heard his Sergeant call, a woman no doubt, and he stood to meet her, but she continued to call his name, then told him to wake up. That made no sense. He was awake wasn't he?

But soon he found everything had halted in time, and faded to black very quickly. Feeling returned to his body and he heard the sounds of birds, and someone trying to wake him. He opened his eyes and moved his head up, dazed and feeling disappointed.

He looked to the bag, snatching it quickly. "Thanks" he said with a nod, not really caring who he was talking to, and starting to trek off, wishing this was a dream again

Nearly jumping as he had snatched the bag from her, she was about to say some choice words as his back got farther and farther but the gentle paw of her mother stopped her. Looking down, she saw the wise vixen shake her head, as Nariko looked up as he vanished from sight. Sighing heavily, she folded her ears back and sat down at the table with Koyuki joining her a few moments later.

"Don't worry, My-Nariko. Time has a funny way of laying out our paths." The vixen took her chopsticks and bowed her head, "Itadakimasu!" She spoke as her daughter followed suit, both intent to enjoy the meal and the day together.

-------------------------
One week later

After spending the whole week searching the entire island for his superposed lost teammates, Dutch lay in an open field not far from the mountains edge, trying to figure out what to do now. As much as he didn't want to admit it, but he knew now that he was alone on this strange island with some of the strangest beasts he had ever seen. Only having the Eastern beach left to look at, he avoided the place because of faint whispers of an unnatural being. Being virtually unarmed, he had decided it best to just wait near the mountain pass hoping maybe the had gone there and would come through at any minute. Of course with a glimmer of doubt.

He sighed as he turned his helmet to look to the mountain as he did every few minutes, of course...finding nothing. " I don't suppose they died with the ship did they?" he thought out loud, looking back up to the sky soon placing his hands in a folded manner behind his head to just relax

Nariko walked along the trails through the forest, feeling as if she needed to go somewhere; anywhere from seeing that empty house. It was painful to know her mother wasn't there with that pleasant smile on her face; willing to stop anything she was doing to come hang out with her or whatever the vixen liked. Clad in her armor with her long hair tied up in an elegant bun she had a sac over her shoulder and a bud of a headphone in her ear while the other hung along her collar bone.

Thankfully Briareos had let her borrow his ipod for the day; she would have asked Kay but she had already left for a trip and had taken it with her. The music wasn't exactly something she'd put on her list, but the surprisingly mellow and beautiful mix of the cyborg gave her a new appreciation for the hard working male. Passing along the pass to the eastern beach as she planned to try and snag some seafood for the week along the rocky outcrop where the little crustaceans seemed to mass; already she could taste it.

The day was nice, so as she walked she felt the need to sing; allowing the slow and peaceful song escape her lips. "Stained glass windows all around me, watching as they fall down to their knees. Whispering words I am not understanding; But, I know that I should be kneeling, praying, asking for forgiveness. Thinking of all the things I've done wrong, hoping their god is out there somewhere; He's listening now, and all along... and I'm told; There's a god in this moment. Watching over me, I don't know, if there's a god in this moment; but I know I'll try to believe..."

Perking his ears at a faint echo of sound, he looked over to the hills to said a faint red dot moving towards the Eastern pass. He could tell right away it wasn't a team member, but all the same he was curious. Everyone knew that traveling to the shore was unwise, so who was trying to go there?

He pulled himself up from the ground and reached for the pack he had ditched weeks ago. Although it had no medical supplies, he still kept food in it. He attached it to it's designated spot and started towards the pass in a light jog, not intending to catch up to the person, but he was certainly going to follow

"...But now you're gone and I'm fading; And I, I hurt in all these new ways. Though I'm praying you've gone to a better place now, I just can't say...But I hope; There's a god in this moment. Watching over me, I don't know, If there's a god in this moment; But, I know I'll try to believe...

God I hope, You're there in this moment, watching over me.
Can you show me you're there in this moment, something to make me believe..."

Nariko felt her feet glide her along, her steps holding more of a dance like motion as she passed through the thick of the mountainous terrain. It was no wonder Kay and Briareos seemed permanently attached to these devices, the music really put one into an amazing mood and mindset. Swishing her tail as she jumped off a small boulder on the path, the scent of the sea wafted in her nostrils.

She'd never been to the beach, but luckily for her when Briareos had arrived he had made a detailed map of the area; as on cue she pulled it out as she walked. Looking along the markings she adjusted her pace for the downhill decline before she stood at a small ridge looking over the start of the eastern beach. She could see the long stretch of the beach and its soft sand; as inviting as it was she decided it would be best for her to get her bounty and go. Looking to the south of the beach she could see the tide pools and the rocky croppings; the occasional wave splashing and sending water high into the air against said rocks.

"Mmmm, Looks like that path will take me right there." She said to herself, looking back at the map again.

Having finally caught up with the figure, he was disappointed further that the once red dot from afar morphed into the ever familiar Nariko. Even more obvious why she didn't know the beach was now a place of death. All the same, he followed her from a distance, ducking behind a rock every time she looked back, which was rare since she was too busy with her music.

As they both had arrived at the downhill slope, he crawled up to a higher mini cliff that provided more of a view than what the vixen could see directly below. He saw the beach completely differently. It was devoid of life, but his helmet could pick up the fine details of foot prints from foxes that once filled the area. Past the tide pools and over the slight rocky hill, he could see crime scene tape fluttering in the wind. This was not a place to be

"Well...off we go." She smiled and removed the bud from her ear, tucking the ipod and all back into one of her compartments since the sound of the sea was music enough to her. Keeping a brisk trail as she was currently unaware of anyone following her, she took the path to the rocks and away from the beach; already able to see the mollusks lining the rocks with the low tide.

Hitting the beach she stayed on the brink between the rocks and the sand; she knew even though tide had gone down that it was still slippery and didn't want to chance anything up on the high pools. Setting down the bag for a moment she began to remove the armor on her legs, making sure to take care to tie them together and secure them onto her back so they wouldn't be lost. With the bag in one paw and a scraper in the other she wadded into the water and found a nearby rocky ridge; bending down as she hummed to begin taking a few of the scallops off the ridge.

Watching as she was now on the move again, he remained in position to keep the high ground, wondering why she was being so foolish. At the same time, he did nothing about it stopping her, unless if she became oblivious to any danger.

He scrutinized the area around, looking for any signs of a murderous creature that had been the cause, and it wasn't long before he looked to the ocean and saw something glowing and approaching the shore fast. Stupidly he jumped from the cliff, falling in a tumble, feeling his ankle strain, but he didn't care.

"HEY!! STUPID!! GET AWAY FROM THE WATER!!" he shouted as he started to run towards her. Even on the beach sand, he could see the glowing pause, swim in a circle, then stop as it targeted the spartan in the water.

Unaware of the lurking in the water, she pried another shell from the rock face with a grin; they were quite large here...it would make a delicious feast once she got home and cooked them. Dropping it into the bag with the others she'd collected, it wasn't untill she heard a voice shout across the beach that she looked up with an irriate and grim look. It couldn't be.....not today.

Sure enough, it was Dutch, was that creep following her now!? However his tone of voice put her off edge, as she turned her head towards the deeper depths. "What..?" She said quietly, but then spotted the glow under the surface as it swam in a circle; and then faced right at her. "What...the ******** is THAT!" She breathed in sharply, without a second thought she backed slowly but with purpose out of the water and reached for her 9mm which had been safely stored in her belt. Jamming in the clip and cocking it back she aimed it for the water's glow; but hesitated firing as she kept moving back....she had little idea how big it was, or what it was...assuming her defensive weapon would highly be ineffective against something that could glow like that.
