Now that the Queen was alone on the sands (well, not entirely...eggs remained, and all the onlookers and candidates but whatever), she seemed ready at last to settle down and find hers. Ther was holding himself very tense and almost jumped when Inaari bumped him a little. Her presence was reassuring and he relaxed some even as the golden dragon started at one end of the girls again, seeming to take the measure of each before snaking her stubby neck towards the next.
She was searching for someone, now angrily...would she find her? Any dragon that went between was a sad loss...but for a newly hatched golden Queen to do so? Unbearable.

Wykla scooches back just a step as the gold's eyes begin to change color in frustration. That wasn't good was it? Then curious as to whom the gold might be looking for, Wykla peeks around the other girls to keep watching. This was her first and it would be right to watch them all Impress.

The further along the line she went, the more irate she became. Why was Hers not front and center? … Was… was Hers even here? The thought was frightening and the frustrated rumbles slipped into distressed croons as she started to shoulder her way through the girls, heedless of their well being. She even inadvertently clawed one of the younger girls though she shied away from the scent of blood that filled her senses.

Though distracted by the gold and her color-changing eyes.... Oh no, please find Yours! Please! ...she got momentarily distracted by Tie and her green.
Who is she? The dragonet looked over at Tie and Filanth and snorted quietly. I can tell that you know her. Even like her a bit? Her tone had changed from accusatory to curious, and she now looked up at Hers.
We met awhile ago... You'll meet her after the Hatching. She's very nice. Rhilira hadn't met too many people she had liked at the Weyr, but Tie was among them. Another had been Ralae, though that was more because she had helped her right after she had arrived at the Weyr. She had also Impressed... they'd have to talk later as well!
Kentori was growing a bit nervous, as the gold wandered still unImpressed. She is just taking a long time... the sleepy voice interrupted in worry. I'm sure she'll find hers. She's just being slow! He shifted on his seat and watched intently.

...Why wasn't she choosing? Kleos moved back smartly from the young gold, worry for the dragonet beginning to replace her concerns for herself. Her rider had to be here somewhere... right?

Far away from the queen, Sevya took on a puzzled frown. This might be serious, she thought, watching the hatchling's antics. Faranth help them if there were no appropriate matches for the queen! Poor girl.

Mine? What are you looking at?
"No-no-nnnothing."
Filanth had taken to laying down on her side, her leg poised to be scratched, and Tie had spent a few minutes rubbing (scratching is bad!) the spot with her hand in an effort to get rid of that annoying feeling. Even though she had her dragon the Shepherd was still watching the sands, watching the Queen. There was no desire in her gaze for the Gold, her heart never really wanting the burden that came with such a beast, and Filanth gave a soft rumble of adoration for the quiet thoughts she could feel. They'd never betray one another, hopefully.
Do not worry for the Queen. Hers is here, she is just taking her time. She is a slow and thorough dragon.
Tie almost wanted to ask how Filanth knew, but it was best to just stay silent and watch. Everyone was watching.

The gold was now flailing through the girls, rumbling turning into a sound that was almost tragic and it snagged at Inaari's heart. The dragonet sounded like one of her little sisters had when she'd lost her way in the tall trees of their orchard one day until the brunette found the tiny girl curled up under one, crying. Really, couldn't anyone take charge and figure out what the little one needed? Not thinking much past helping the little one, Inaari's hand slipped from Therion's and she started to make shooing motions at the cluster of female Candidates the dragonet was floundering in.
"Back up, back up! She's looking for someone, she knows what she wants. We just have to find it for her! If everyone spreads out and she can see clearly, she won't go between!" It felt like this might happen now, if she was frightened or lost, she would go where everything was blank. That couldn't happen! Whether anyone would listen was another story entirely, but Inaari hoped. She hoped so badly this worked!

Alirien, now A'li, reached the table and got down to feeding Zinth just a couple bits of meat before his attention is drawn back to the sands. What was going on out.. oh. The Gold doesn't seem too happy at all, Hers should be around and soon before anything drastic happens.
Mine, she'll find Hers don't worry! She's just hiding that's all. It had to be that simple. Zinth happily takes the meat from his hand before crooning a delayed greeting to her clutchmates, splitting her focus between chewing and wanting to go and say hi to everyone.
A'li nods absently, though a small frown starts to form as he keeps looking back to the lineup of girls and the Gold now bowling through them. She couldn't up and go Between, could she?

MINE! Pay attention to your Fanth!
The newly self-proclaimed A'ly tossed Fanth a sizeable cut of meat, which the blue dragonet ate with short, snappish bites. While the new Rider was focused on getting her new partner fed, her attention still lingered on the Hatching. Many young ones had Impressed since she had left the sands, and now the gold was out, searching, ever searching for Hers. Fanth, on the other hand, sensed her slight distraction and nudged her sharply with his nose.
Mine! I want another!
Alright, alright, sorry. She patted his head with one hand and reached over the table to feed him a smaller fix of meat. Sorry, Fanth. It's just so exciting, y'know? The blue finished quickly and lay his head on the girl's lap, making a soft but agitated noise. Are you feeling better, now that you've got something on your stomach?
Yes, I am full. But do not forget about me down here. There was a hint of slight warning in his voice, but A'ly knew it wasn't for her. The dragonet kept his head firmly on her legs and watched the hatching, eyes following the gold as she marched like the leader she would become someday before the remaining female Candidates.
She needs to hurry and choose Hers. The impatience mirrored her own; as excited as she was to see the Hatching finish up, the proceedings were taking a while. The fingers that rested on Fanth's head began to keep tempo. She wanted to get to know Fanth more, to explore and spend time together, and sitting here was hard, so very hard.

She flashed her gaze around once more then went stock still. Either was going to go Between or she’d found what she was looking for… Eirlyn couldn’t tell. Wings quivering, she set her stance and glared at Hers as their gazes met. INAARIMINE! Why are you there!? You should be here, with your Ianath! The demand was strong, and easily guessed from her posture as the connection was forged and the new queen Impressed. With a thankful sigh, Feynath rose with the weary tremor of someone whose relief was great. Padding across the sands, she nosed each of the eggs and waited for movement before she tossed her head, declaring them duds. The second half of the Hatching was now beginning.

By the Egg, that little Queen was getting angrier and angrier...Therion's muscles tensed as she went stomping over one of the younger girls.
As a Nice Guy, he felt like he should run over and help her, but to move right now, especially towards the girls, might cause that dragon to become even more agitated...the last thing he wanted was to make the situation more volatile than it already was. So instead he moved away from them as Inaari moved forward to help - but now he was even more worried for the girl than before.
What if the Queen went berserk and tore up the girls before going between!?
But then...she found what she was looking for - or seemed to, because she settled some and the elder Queen relaxed --so he could too. But who had impressed?

Wykla hears the upset rumbles of the gold and starts to worry. She wouldn't go betwee would she? She had to find Hers! Being her position behind several of the taller others, she was the last to know the agitated queen was heading her way. Much to her dismay the queen bowls through the girls.
Wykla gets knocked roughly from her feet to the hot stands. The heat of the sands almost hiding the pain from the small cut mid-thigh left by the queen. When it does register she gives a soft whimper and pulls herself out of the way of the queen to avoid further hurt. She saw the queen flinching away from the scent.

Finally.
The knot of panic that had been building in her stomach relaxed, and Kleos smiled over at the new queen and her rider; she might be an angry looking thing, but at least she had Impressed safely...
That just left the three 'dud' eggs. Whether or not they truly were duds was about to be revealed.

Sevya let out a breath she didn't realize she had been holding. "Thank the first egg," she muttered. That could have been a crisis - and how fortunate it was that the girl the queen had been looking for spoke up! With the press of bodies, she might not ever have found her. Glancing around the stands, she could see lots of relieved faces; she didn't even want to think how the queenrider must have felt right before that Impression.
And now...the harper swallowed slowly, and fixed her gaze on the final three eggs. All of them duds, but there might still be hope in there.
