Siegell and Shastah

PostPosted: Thu Nov 26, 2009 8:12 am

"Try not to puke," the masked man had said.

Shastah had wheeled and spun, whipping in circles and rolling through the air, dipping and weaving around the falling, flaming rocks. Several times, he took refuge in the shadow of the tower itself, but never for long, and by the time the sky returned to its eerie blackness, the ground littered with flames, Shastah was panting heavily.

Siegell patted his back, and raised his arm to wave to the two knights on the hill in acknowledgement.

Then the tower collapsed.

"WHAT!?" Siegell's eyes were wide, he was leaning forward in the saddle, legs straight as he stared at the settling rubble, almost frothing at the lips. "Oh, no way. Oh no ******** way!"

Shastah shifted, then dipped into a dive, sweeping in a quick circle around the portal as his rider stared into it.

"She's... not here! And she's... too smart to leave a portal," he hissed under his breath. "Damnit! Baldric, Scar, peel out, reconvene at the ruins!" he shouted, leaning back and pointing in the right general direction.

Shastah swung upward over the battle. "We'll hunt her down... The Lady wants her mask."

The white wyvern could be seen retreating over the armies, back toward the ruins where he had first met Bliss, Baldric, and Scar.

Ganon had finally been forced to stop playing when the rocks began to fall. He'd taken off like a shot, skidding and leaping and ducking through the sand, chest heaving as he fell and clambered back up, holding his guitar by the strap and stopping hard as flaming rocks hit the sand and threw up small explosions of sand and flames.

He had to get to Aruna. And he got so close. He had been running to protect her when a rock had come down... The angle had thrown him off. He'd tried to stop and let it drop in front of him.

It hit him square in the chest and knocked him clean off his feet. He grabbed it and shouted in pain, throwing it away and rolling onto his chest, hunching up. He heard a sickening crunch as another came down on his guitar, and then cried out as a few pelted his back hard, leaving burns and bruises. The pain was unbearable, and he shuddered, eye closed tightly as he tried to curl up tight. At last, the rocks began to stop, though Ganon looked to be in nasty condition by then, not thirty yards from Aruna, unable to move.

xxxxx"If you're worried about surviving, xxxxxxxyou can worry about it after you're dead!"
"The wyvern riders of Bern sit atop the heap of all other forces on the continent!" xxxxx "You will see our power soon!"

The battle had been hard pressed and had taken many unforeseen turns. When the giant monster formed, Vaida rounded up a group of wyvern units and lead a siege of attacks, between the blasts from the fire dragon. The wyverns wove in between heads and limbs, slicing and doing whatever damage they could do. Then the fireballs rained down and sent everybody into complete chaos. It was as if the gods were fighting, and the small people of the world were just trying to survive.

Vaida didn't know how many air units she had lost between the monster and the meteors, and it really wasn't the main concern. After all, people did die, in battle. Worrying about everyone would only hinder you. Finally, she saw the monstrosity fall and give one final attack. She had never thought she would have been grateful that a dragon was on their side, but he certainly did his part well.

But then wouldn't you know, even more trouble was on the way. And then... what was this? The tower was crumbling?! Vaida then saw a girl in a mask pull the cheesiest magic stunt she had ever seen, before vanishing. That had to be the "Razevi" they were after, and she had just gotten away... which meant they had failed, in the larger mission. Vaida looked down at the remnants of the tower, and saw Alihi with others she knew, amongst a small girl. At least the child was safe, they had not failed in securing her.

With all the objectives either met or failed, they really had no more need to be here. But now there was an army charging at them. The wyvern lord looked back down toward the ruined tower, and saw that everyone there was headed through a portal. If the tactician was going through it, it meant that it was necessary. Better yet, it was a way to evacuate. Vaida flew down, and glided beside Isadora, as her horse galloped. "Hey, Dame Knight!" she called out. "I just saw the tactician and a bunch of people run through some portal, at the tower's base! I don't know where it leads, but it's obviously a way out of here! I don't mean to boss you around, but make sure all the guild members get through that portal, and I'll make sure the Guard keeps our new enemy out here! And don't worry... we won't lose. After all, I'm here!" She laughed, then flew off toward where her forces were gathered.

On her way, she looked out to the distance, and saw a wyvern flying off, away from the battle... a white wyvern... with a white-clad rider. Vaida stared blankly for a moment, then growled. "Son of a b***h!"

The Guard commander arrived over the collection of forces below. She simply smirked as she gripped her spear. "Think you can just surprise attack us like that? Think again!" Vaida slashed her mighty spear, and sent out a blast of dark power, that scorched many of the enemies, who were coming in as reinforcements. She then latched her spear to the side, and brought her sword back out, and began her decent. She increased her speed, the lower she got, and held out her sword. She soared passed a line of the dark armors, using her speed as sheer power, as she cut cleanly across several of the soldiers. As she turned around, she got a look at an enemy soldier, who had been slain. She gritted her teeth, realizing that she recognized that armor. It could only mean one thing.

"Mordache!"

As the soldiers came, Deborah rallied the Guard to form up, and prepare for the conflict. Spears were raised up, and shields held in front. "Show no fear! Show no weakness! Don't let dis desert be ya death bed!" There was an eerie pause until finally, the soldiers rammed through. As they did, Deborah thrust her spear into a horses belly, and flung it to the side with ease. With Graver's manipulation of gravity, she had no need to worry about the common lancer's bane of losing their weapon so often in typical combat.

Deborah fought on, though their numbers had diminished from the battle already, and more reinforcements from the enemy charged forward. She turned the spear horizontal, and blocked an incoming sword, then pushed the weak little man back. She followed up her attack with a swing from the end of her weapon to below the soldier's head, sending him into the sand, his neck snapped. As Deborah took a second look at the soldier, she noticed the armor design, and her eyes narrowed. She had faced soldiers with this armor before... before she was overcome by a pair of paladins and their men, and taken to Mordache as a prisoner.

The tales of the baroness had spread wide, and they all angered Deborah to no end. A dark-skinned woman, who had attained high status, but used her power in a corrupt way. Deborah had made open protests against the woman, which is why troops were sent after her, in the first place. However, she was broken out of prison before she ever met the baroness face to face. With a woman like that in charge, no good could come of it. But whatever reasons Mordache had to instigate this skirmish, Deborah could be sure it was of foul nature. Perhaps they knew the truth about the tower. Perhaps, Razevi troubled them. Still, they were too late, if they were after Razevi. Well, whatever it was they wanted, Deborah would not let them get it.

And if one day she ever would meet the Baroness face to face... the country would be in need of a new leader, when Deborah was finished with her.

The Mordache troops continued their assault upon the Learanian Guard. As things continued on, the slower troops all eventually made their way over and joined the fray.

However, the attack from the wyvern riding woman had taken out a few of the reinforcements, and struck fear into many, causing them to let down their guard or flinch. Still though, the soldiers remained persistent for the most part, and the fighting did not let up. They were determined to take down the recruits, the officers, and even the airborne commander.

During the fighting, a soldier stumbled in the sand, and came upon a buried, undead man. The soldier paused a moment, staring, then reached out his arm slowly toward the head. Why he did this, it was uncertain. However, when his hand got close enough, the soldier extended his finger, and poked the head, to see what would happen.

At the main skirmish, due to the increase of Mordache troops, a few were able to break through the Guard's defenses. With a smile on their face, the cluster looked around and sought out the ones who seemed to be the most injured. Three made their way hastily over to an injured (apparent) human, with red hair. Four made their way over and surrounded a pair of felines. And the last ran off, having spotted a fallen lizard creature. He approached with caution, but raised his lance, as he got near, and prepared to finished the thing off.

They were fools for splitting themselves up, but the sight of apparently easy prey was just too good to pass up. The instinct of a Mordache recruit shined through.

As Aruna finished dressing Mihira’s wounds, meteors of different sizes rained down from the sky. The young wyvern rider was still in delicate condition. Moving might aggravate her injuries. The redheaded woman had no choice but stand her ground.

Luck seemed to be on their side when the flaming rocks missed the two by a few yards. Sand and small glass shards flew into the air from the impacts. She tried her best keep the particles from reaching her patient.

Suddenly an appalling cry reached her ears. Aruna’s serpentine eyes widened. One of her greatest fears occurred. Quickly she snapped her head in the direction of the scream. In her line of sight a mass of green lay motionless on the desert sands. In her mind the nagini was screaming at the top of her lungs while in reality she was completely silent, stun by her nightmare come true.

G-G-G-Ganon!”

Her will broke free of its paralysis induced by fright and worry. The man she loved was in helpless state. He needed her now more than ever. Aruna slithered faster than she had ever slithered before.

An enemy soldier targeted her injured lover. The snake woman hastily wrapped her orange red tail around the fool’s body and began to squeeze with her might. This man would regret his decision to attack an injured hgi-val. As he struggled, Aruna tightened her grasp. He was distracting her from her true objective. The soldier earned no mercy. Death seemed like the only punishment. The female naga opened her mouth and showed her long fangs. A signal as to what her next move was.

Swiftly she bit into his neck. When her teeth punctured the lance wielder’s flesh, Aruna injected a lethal dosage of venom. After a minute of deadly poison coursing through his veins, she uncoiled her tail from around the soldier. Blood flowed faster when it wasn’t constricted. If she had kept applying pressure, the venom would take longer to kill. This battle needed to end.

With the enemy on the road to death, Aruna shifted her priorities back to her fallen beloved. Upon finally reaching Ganon’s side, the ex-medic’s gaze examined the bard’s damaged scales. His face expressed extreme agony. She found herself trying to fight back tears.

“I’m here, darling. I will take away your pain. Just don’t leave me all alone. That is all I ask in return,” Aruna whispered as she leaned down to kiss Ganon on the cheek. A few cold, wet drops hit his face.

All she had on her person was a single bottle of aloe vera extract and a small vial of potent elixir. The rest of her supplies were back with the human girl whose live she saved. “Please let this work,” prayed the nagini in her thoughts. Aruna uncorked the both glass containers, poured the strong potion into the plant juice, then mixed the two until they made a translucent yellowgreen liquid. Delicately she spread the aloe elixir concoction across his wounds. She used it sparingly so that it could treat all of his burns and bruises. It wouldn’t take long for the substance to sooth the hurt and heal the injuries.

The bard was phasing in and out of consciousness, his vision wavering. It didn't make much difference, since all he could see was sand, but with each descent toward darkness he felt his body going numb, only to be wrenched back from the blissful black oblivion by a sharp stab of pain. He closed his eye for a moment, gritting his teeth and tasting the blood in his mouth. His ribs felt like they were on fire, despite it no longer being technically true, and he could hear nothing but dull ringing, though he could sense sounds through the sand where his underbelly wasn't too burnt to feel anything but pain.

His mind was slowing down as the warmth of unconsciousness tugged gently at his brain, and he let out a long, slow breath, prepared to waver into sleep. Later on, looking back, he'd have no memory of all this, but he'd like to think he was striving to remain conscious with thoughts of Aruna to fuel his courage.

In reality, all he wanted to do was sleep. Once more, he was wrenched away from the edge of unconsciousness when an unseen hand pressed to his back, rubbing slowly over the burn with a liquid that felt like burning ice. His eye opened sharply and he gasped, mouth open for a moment, then attempted to lash his tail, an automatic reaction to the pain.

Just that much was exhausting. After the impact to his chest, it felt difficult to breathe, and his head was swimming from the exertion as he fought for another gasp. The pain was constricting his chest, but after a moment, the searing pain on his back began to fade, and breath came slowly back to him, returning color to his face.

His burns were healing smoothly after the solution was applied, though the elixir had its limits, and a few patches of scales remained where he was burned all the way down to the black skin under his scales, with layers burnt and peeled away around pink and white ashy boils.

He grunted softly when he was rolled over, and felt the same frigid liquid applied to the smaller burns on his chest. He wanted to give another sign, as the burns faded, restoring scales and flesh, but without the pain to keep him conscious, he closed his eye and let himself fall into the inky black waters that waited below.

He fell quite still, his chest no longer rising and falling.

Perceptibly. A reptile is capable of staying perfectly still, without any movement at all, for hours on end. His hearts had slowed to nearly stop.

For several minutes, he appeared quite dead, until a bit of sand blew into his nose and, entirely unconscious, he sneezed, then rolled onto his side.

Look at this, you might get out without notice, Charles. You just might. Just watch out for him, he's getting a little close. Don't sweat it, man, just stay calm... You're thinking about going nuts, I know, but just stay calm.

The enemy soldier got closer and closer.

Charles, don't do it. Charles... Oh no, you twitched. Maybe he won't notice you, and just go on.

When he touched you, you went nuts. You screamed in a shriek fit for a woman of your age, decayed and deafening. You might have scared his skin off the bone. But you got calm after that, so it's okay, Charles. It's fine.

The fighting continued. The soldiers who separated had all been done in. They should have known better than to underestimate the guild members, just because they were injured. As for the soldier who had come across the undead head... well, he ran off screaming, and was done in shortly after. It was for the best, Mordache troops shouldn't fear monsters.

Due to the efforts of the Guard, and those of command, it seemed the battle was just about over. Hardly any of the Mordache troops remained. Up on the distant dune from where the troops had come, the two horsemen had watched it all unfold.

"Damn. I thought they'd take more Learanians down, with them."
"...We arrived too late. Razevi has escaped." The stoic one turned his horse, and looked at his crimson-clad counterpart. "Siegell and his new lackeys have made their departure, safely. We should do the same." The emerald armored one then flicked the reigns of his mount, and took off.
"Bah! Yeah, I guess you're right..." The loud one turned his horse around, but then looked back, for a moment. He looked at the wyvern lord in the sky, with curiosity. Was this the new commander of Learania's troops he had heard of? He stared and watched the movements of the person, until it seemed as if they had caught eyes, for a moment. The horseman flinched, then quickly flicked the reigns and darted off, not giving the wyvern lord another chance to see him, if she hadn't just then. Can't let himself be seen, after all, that could create a big mess.

As the two horseman fled back to their homeland, abandoning their men, the battle was coming to a close. Learania was the victor.
