"But... he seemed happy when I first spoke to him. He was playing games and smiling. It was only until I told him the truth that he looked sad." Why would this be? Surely the boy hated him. And he didn't want to stick around and make things worse for the poor child.

Ellandra nodded a litte, following Anson around. "What sizes does he wear? Since he's going to be staying with us, I probably do need to know," she said quietly, her eyes still sad.
Rhian blinked up at Faolan, her gaze a bit out of focus and oh-so-tired. "I h'lped, righ'?"

Anson handed her some of the clothes to check the sizes on. "I'll talk wi' his parents later an' see if they might let me get some o' his clothes from there an' other belongin's."
"Lauss, he might've been acting happy because he was hiding what was going on at home. Plus, he has a crush on Kendra and she was there with you," Zia chuckled. "Those tears of his might've been more from relief than anything else. He finally knew that man that beat him all the time really wasn't his father."
Faolan looked down at Rhian, nodding. "You did good, wean. Very good. He's sleeping peacefully now."

Lauss' expression softened, his guilt slowly wearing away. "You're saying... perhaps... it's possible that I helped Mister Kelly? That I may have potentially saved his life, not ruined it?" Perhaps honesty was the best policy after all.

"Thank you," Ellandra said quietly. "It obiously better if neither Faolan nor I approach either of them for a while, but if there's anything that Kelly had that might comfort him a bit, something like that, well . . . it would be good for him to get it back." She paused for a moment, thinking again, and then added, "How did all of this happen anyway? All I know is I met Faolan while he already had Kelly with him. . .."
Rhian smiled a little. "I numbed th' bad feelin's..... made him feel better.......... so tired, though...."

"Lauss is the one who got the ball rolling. He pointed out how much he looked like Fao, so much that Fao must be a relative. Kelly went to ask his mother. I guess that sort of started the argument," Anson said, heading over to the seamstress to tell her to put the clothes on Faolan's tab. He looked back at Elle. "I'll go over as soon as we drop this off at your place and see about getting the boy's belongings."
Faolan smiled and nodded to his Essentic daughter. "It's alright, Rhian. I'm here fae you. You just go ahead an' rest now."
"I think you could look at it as saving his life," Zia agreed. "He'll be better off here than with his mother and step-father."

Lauss blinked, wondering if perhaps "bettering his life" would have said what he meant more accurately, but decided not to correct himself. Satisfied the bed was made -- he had experience in this particular area, and laid the blankets out as neatly and comfortably as possible -- he stood straight, tilting his head as he addressed Ziazan once more. "Do you think Mister Kelly will think of it that way, though? How could he not miss his mother, even if she was cruel?"

Ellandra didn't say much else, aide from smiling politely and offering up another "Thank you," to Anson. She was deeply lost in her thoughts and concerns, and trying to figure out just what needed to be done - and knowing that she needed to get back to the twins soon, because Faolan probably needed to stay with Kelly and the babies would be wanting to eat.
Rhian nodded a bit and let her eyes fall closed again, totally lost into sleep.

"I think he will understand one day that this is better. I'm sure he won't be completely cut off from his mother. He may not be welcomed in their home, but his mother can visit with him elsewhere," Zia pointed out.
Faolan stroked Rhian's hair, listening to her and Kelly's soft breathing, eyes drooping closed as well. It'd been a long day for them, and it wasn't even evening yet.
Anson headed out of the small shop, going toward the Grady house. He figured Ellandra might want to be alone with her thoughts and, true, she'd have a lot to think about. He sort of wished his son and Lee were home to help out with all of this.

"One day" certainly wasn't the same as "when the boy wakes up". Suddenly, Lauss was feeling a little anxious again, wanting to go home again. If they needed help here, though, he would stick around. Even he could see that Kelly needed support from everyone, even those he may not particularly like right now. Lauss began to walk down the hall with the other essentic, wanting to do his duties as quickly as he could. "Perhaps Mister Kelly might be comforted with Miss Kendra around. I know I would be if it were Rhi helping me in such a situation."

When she reached her home, Ellandra hesitated for a moment on the porch before heading in quietly, an uncertain expression on her face. It was so. . . . silent, within the cottage. She hoped everything was all right. . . .

"You could go get her. She's probably at her parents' house. You've been there, right?"
Anson looked at Elle as she hesitated. "They're alright. They're probably just being quiet for the boy's sake."

Lauss' smile returned to him as he nodded, happy to both have offered a possible comfort to the boy and to have another task to fulfill. He managed his way back downstairs, glancing at the three sleeping in the front room before giving it little thought and rushing toward the door, only barely managing a nod to Ellandra as he walked past her. He had a quest, he had no time for leisurely talk. He made his way to the McCormick home, gently knocking at the door and standing back, looking somewhat impatient.

Ellandra nodded at Anson and stepped further inside, calling out a brely-audible "Faolan?" that she knew her sensitive-hearing husband would more than likely be able to notice.

"In here," he called back quietly from the living room, hoping not to disturb Rhian or his son. It still felt a little odd, if not relieving, to know Kelly was his.
At the McCormick home, Kendra opened the door and looked up at Lauss. "Aye?"
