Leena was about to say more, but she was starting to hear people talk already. Indeed, rumors did spread fast. It was said that Captain Ghis wasn't neutral? That he was too... a traitor?

"Sir Aran." Leena said a bit more formally than she had to. The vendor was careful of the wandering eyes that might fall upon them, as well as the wandering ears. "Everyone is... divided about... FEF aren't they? I... I should have known.." she shut her eyes, lamenting the fact that she indeed did have to choose. She whispered now to not be heard. "How could they believe that they returned to life... to be real Heroes? We all know from the Morphs that... only sin comes from reviving the dead. It makes all druids... all of them terrible for doing that. I bet one of them is the real person behind this."

xxxxx"If you're worried about surviving, xxxxxxxyou can worry about it after you're dead!"
"The wyvern riders of Bern sit atop the heap of all other forces on the continent!" xxxxx "You will see our power soon!"

Vaida took a moment to fully comprehend what he said. It was almost like talking to that Dan guy. Vaida did NOT like accents. Definitely didn't. In any case, when she was done processing, she smirked.

"Good to hear it. And yeah, I'm hoping there is something you can tell me." She said smugly. "One of my scouts spotted a number of FEF members under attack by some people. These "heroes" I guess. Anyway, that's not what troubled me. My scout also told me, that she saw... a Draco Zombie summoned from the earth. Normally, I'd head right out, and bust it up, but... I'm not exactly in a good situation with these riots and all, to just up and leave." Vaida paused, and looked to the side. "So I was hoping you could tell me that I could have your... cooperation in... oh, hell!" She looked back over and pointed at him. "I want you to say that you'll combine our forces, to both send out troops to help the members and back up the castle defense here in Eyris while we do that!" She took a sigh, and lowered her hand, and placed it back on her waist. "So. In other words, you up for kicking some a**?!"

It wasn't hard for Ed to fall asleep. She'd been excruciatingly tired. So, despite how confused she had been after the fox dismissively put the issue aside for the next morning, Ed managed to convince herself to lay her head down and close her eyes. Still, it managed to haunt her a few minutes into another phase of conscience, and Ed wondered to herself how many chimerae like Hatmon were out there. Hatmon had dropped off to sleep so suddenly, she didn't know if they were the same kind, but Hatmon sounded like she was naturally born one! Ed envied that. She'd always envied laguz, she'd envied Ganon when they first met...

A confused jumble of bestial figures stalked the multiple dreams that she stumbled through.

She didn't remember any of them. It felt as though only a few minutes had passed until a tingling sensation jerked her back into the physical world, a curious feeling that she was only half-aware of until the sensation sunk in further. Once her mind registered what it was, Ed shifted and tried to find the source. But instead of finding the source she found a fox spouting questions.

"Waah!!" Ed yelped, not recognizing the beastie at first, twisting away. "Wh-what — "

Recognition dawned on Ed and she relaxed, though she still seemed utterly confused. She took a breath and straightened herself, fixing the bow in her hair, somewhat reluctant to look at Hatmon after embarrassing herself. She pretended to be occupied with fixing her bow as she attempted to construct a response.

"Uh-uhm... I-I'm a chimera too. Kind of." Ed tugged her collar away from her neck, pointing to runes imprinted across the flesh like a choker. "I know this guy — see he's my friend — who once did research on transformation, so he experimented on himself and me. So I can transform into anything, but it's really really hard, and I have to do a lot of anatomy research."

She released the collar of her shirt and managed to directly address Hatmon this time. "I reckon you didn't do alchemy on yourself, though, didja?"

As Aran finished his meal, he resumed talking to Leena.
"I just hope that we don't have to fight against the Heroes, or FEF" He said also shaking his head with his eyes shut.

He knew that if the Watch decided to side with the Heroes.. Then Aran would have no chance. "It'll be just like when I met the Dawn Brigade.." When he did meet them, a long time ago back in Daein, he was fighting on the other side.

Aran leaned in a bit closer to hear Leena's words, and whispered after her "I think one of the heroes was a dark magic user.. Maybe she's not actually who we think she is, and she revived them all?" Of course.. Not ALL dark magic "Then again.. that's probably a crazy idea."

...She just didn't stop putting him on the spot, did she? One of those people where you knew what side she was on the moment you spotted her. Well. In for a penny, in for a pound, Ghis supposed.

"Ah still need the day shift mannin' the barricades," Ghis answered. "Otherwise, they may get taken doon, n' we doon't need tha'. Bu' other n' that..."

Ghis always preferred a beer in the mornings. Beer, whiskey, rum, the occasional vodka... he drank quite a bit. But alcohol wasn't the type of drink for waking up in the morning.

"Javert! ...Gimme some tea. Ah'm gonna need it if we're gonna get oot t' this battle AND fortify th' castle."

"Tea!? You've never asked for it before, all the time I've known you!"

"Oh, and I shoul' go put on me armor. Now, any'un 'oo still wants t' doubt 'oo's i' th' right, ye can go oot there n' see fer yersel' if the rumors 're true," Ghis added, walking back to his bunk.

"Oh, and since she ain't 'ere, Javert, ye give th' orders."

A couple dozen new recruits, despite Vaida standing there, couldn't help but look at one another in astonishment. Some looked pleased that Ghis was at last taking action; others wondered if he might be giving in...

"HEY!"

All eyes turned forward to Javert.

"...Err, right. You heard the captain. Get yourselves armed and ready for either battle or moving to the castle," Javert said, trying not to feel the stage fright creeping up on him. "Ahhh..." Who's good for castle defense... "Archers and Knights, form up and head for the castle. Someone go and alert the Watch out there of what's going on... you two, I think. Make sure Charice knows, or she'll throttle us for not telling," he added, getting a few chuckles from those who liked the plan thus far.

Those chuckles travelled around, getting a few bits of nervous laughter from those who weren't so keen. Though Javert didn't know it, humor went a long way in uniting an otherwise divided crowd. Those already given orders were moving to grab weapons and armor, comfortable or otherwise.

"The rest of you, get ready. We'll head up towards the manor and learn what's going on."

The stern face paced, and Javert breathed a sigh of relief. They'd--they'd actually LISTENED! Maybe he could make a name for himself after all! Maybe. He wasn't the one in charge here, after all. That was up to the three Captains.

"Err, will this arrangement work?" he asked, looking uncertainly at Vaida. He'd just gone with the troops that would work best in a castle defense against a bunch of bow-and-pitchfork-wielding folk. Only Vaida really knew just what positions at the castle needed to be filled.

As for the rest, well... he wasn't sure what a "Draco Zombie" was, but he assumed it was a zombie, and it was therefore trouble. The only concern was its strength--Charice and Ghis could likely hold their own, but he wasn't sure if anyone else or even himself would do much to it. But they had to try!

“I see,” Hatmon mused as she sat back down in front of Ed. Her own situation was different from Ed’s, but in the end they were both fellow Chimera, so sticking together wouldn’t hurt. Curiosity was begging to know more, but the fox wasn’t about to risk being rude to a girl she had just met. “Though, really, I can only begin to imagine. I only have this form and my more human-like form.”

Like Laguz, Hatmon’s humanoid form processed both the characteristics of a human and the beast that she was. There was some variation though, for she was no laguz in the first place. Along with her ears and tail that appeared in both forms, Hatmon had paw-like hands and feet that replaced the ones a normal human ought to have. They often attracted stares, but they were far more useful in the chimera’s opinion than still having her old hands and feet. Not only did they allow her to fight while in the human-like form, but they allowed her to run faster, and they set her apart from laguz.

“You would be right to assume that.” Her eyes glanced at the floor for a moment before her tail curled back around her body protectively, as if it was hugging her. “My mother and sister made me what I am today, without my consent, by using me in an experiment where they fused me together with a rare, black fox they captured.” Though it was far, far in the past, and her family was long dead, Hatmon still held bitter feelings towards them. It wasn’t so much that she was mad over what they had forced to become, but rather, they had tried to choose her path in life. A life as a test subject; a lab rat forced to live in a confinement, or rather a chimera forced to live in a cage.

Vaida minded her own business, as the two men conversed with each other. Ghis was right about them needing to keep this place safe, too, but still, it's not like the citizens were flaming rioting against the watch. They weren't tied with FEF. Well, most of them weren't.

She then watched as Ghis went inside and some shrimpy boy stepped up and began to give orders. He was lax in his commanding orders, for her taste, but it still got the job done. She looked back at him, when he directed a question at her.

"They're your troops. Bring who you want. Just make sure they listen." She began to look over the ones who were preparing to move out. "I'll be waiting for word at the castle. When you're done investigating out on the field, send me word of your findings. My air troops are all I can properly send out, but they're getting ready as we speak. If they're needed, I'll send them out." She took a step forward. "I'll have my scout rendezvous with your team at the main entrance to Eyris. She'll lead you to where she saw the fighting. Even if you have to engage an enemy, send back a messenger to me right away! I'll take action from there." She looked over at Javert and nodded at him.

She then made her way over to Umbriel. Tori slid through Javert's legs with a giggle, then leaped onto Umbriel's back, ready to go. Vaida turned back to Javert before she mounted. "And tell that captain of yours that I never want to see that much of him ever again! Tori's going to have nightmares for a week, undoubtedly!" She then mounted her wyvern, and with a simple pull on the reins, Umbriel let out a massive swing of her wings and they soared into the air, with total disregard of those who were around them as they took off. What a horrible moment for those who were having a good hair day.

The man, terrified, dropped Lyre's wrist immediately, and he disappeared back into the streets. Lyre's jaw dropped, and she let loose another high pitched noise- this one a squeal of happiness. Her hood fell back from her orange ponytail, and her furry cat ears flicked.

"Lethe! Is it really you??? How did you get here? What are you doing here? Wait, is everything okay in Gallia? IsRanulfstillsingle?DidKyzapickuphisMajesty'sdrycleaninglikehewassupposedto?"

Her violet eyes, the same eyes as Lethe, sparkled.

"I MISSED YO-" Lyre quickly recovered herself, feigning a cough. "Gosh, dusty street, I mean, uh, welcome to Learania?" She pushed a lock of hair behind her ear, resisting the urge to cling to her twin and hold on for dear life. They didn't do those things. In public. They were both MUCH too cool to do lame things like that. Or say lame things like actual feelings. Or admit that sometimes they stole each other's clothes out of their closets- but of course, it was always Lethe who stole Lyre's clothes, because, like, Lethe had no sense of style.

Worry was evident on Sophia’s features as she paced restlessly in her room. In her hands was a book on the history of Learania she had been reading while curled up in her chair. That was until a bit of the future graced her mind causing her to become restless and unable to read any longer. As she walked over to the desk in her room, she placed the book on its neatly polished surface before her hands clasped back together. Nerves were getting the best of the girl and she wanted to do something to ease them, but her mind wouldn’t concentrate on petty things any longer. Whenever the Arcadian girl tried to distract herself, the blurry vision that had graced her mind would come rushing back; giving her a headache.

News of the outside hadn’t reached her ears in many hours either, which did little to calm her anxiety. To think she was sitting in here while the other guild members were off fighting somewhere. Did they have enough food? Where they getting enough rest? They were doing well… weren’t they? Sophia had no answers to her questions, and the few people that had entered her room within the last few hours had none either. Every time someone had come to see her, the lavender haired girl would ask them of news and if she might be of assistance. Time after time though, the same dull answers were given to her. We’ve heard nothing of the guild members. Oh, no, no, Lady Sophia, you can’t leave! There is a riot outside and you would surely be killed. Her feeble protests had proved to be no match for their concerns and thus she had been forced to remain confined in her room until she found a way out.

"I heard it through the grapevine that the Watch got a call on a Dark user before all this happened." Leena nodded as she heard Aran's information.

"That was the person that Leon was sent after... and then... all this started to fall upon Eyris..." The vendor shut her eyes, the last part stinging her the most. Her good friend, loyal customer... and watchman in armor was in an unknown land, probably scared, alone, tired... and no one here would give him quarter because he was considered a traitor for siding with FEF.

Manakete Kris

PostPosted: Fri Jun 26, 2009 3:10 pm

Kris had conveniently faded from the minds of the members allowing him to be a ninja and sneak around as he pleased. Even though he was spying on them, while they slept, ate, battled, recovered, bathe—ok, maybe not bathed, but none the less Kris had kept a watchful eye on them all. He had good intentions though, for the feminine man wasn’t spying for his own benefit, but rather Sophia’s. Due to her confinement to the castle, she was unable to get around, and thus had asked Kris for his services so that she might hope to aid her fellow guild members once she had received his report.

Thanks to his transformation abilities sneaking around was a ridiculously easy matter, and thus even as he made his way back to the castle, he had yet to be discovered. Slipping into another form, he entered the large structure unhindered and made his way up to the crew member’s room. It was not long ago that they had met and it was purely by accident. Kris held no obligations to the young lady, but he felt drawn to her, so when he mistakenly stumbled into her room while running from some castle guards he had offered his help.

Kris entered her room unannounced as he wandered over to one of the cushioned chairs in her well furnished room and made himself at home. Having been together with Hatmon for years, they only ever seemed to travel, so a moment of relaxation was always well appreciated. No inn he had ever stayed in was this nice, and it wasn’t like the great outdoors had any fluffy chairs just sitting around. “I did what you asked, and they’re all making their way back to their temporary campsite now since the battle just finished up.” As the manakete spoke, he pulled a rolled up map from his robes and tossed it onto the desk that Sophia still stood in front of.

“Disgusting human,” she muttered as the Gallian warrior watched the man flee out of fear.
Suddenly a high pitched squeal from her sister nearly deafened her. “Of course it’s me. Who else could it be?” Lethe gave her twin one of those “Are you crazy?” looks only because she didn’t fully understand the situation. In her mind they were still on Tellius.

“I’m not sure about the details of how I got here,” she replied. “But this is what I do know. I was training my squad in an abandoned fort near the Crimea-Gallia border. One of the new recruits slacked off so I thought I would teach him a lesson in real combat. I hid myself in a room and when he walked in front of the doorway, I pounced. However, strange this may be, I didn’t land on him. Instead I ended up landing on some crates in a blacksmith’s storage room.” She paused for a moment to rub the back of her head. “Then suddenly a hammer came out of nowhere and knocked me unconscious. When I awoke two beorc girls were petting me. They asked me if I was a member of “FEF” and told me that the townsfolk were angry at that group for attacking some ancient heroes. Judging by the current situation, those children were right.”

Lethe cocked an eyebrow when Lyre questioned about their home. Normally she kept her nose out of her sister’s business. Only on a few occasions would she butt in because she cared. This struck her as odd conversation. “Have you not been in contact with your superior? What kind of mission has his Majesty assigned that you would loose track of events in Gallia? You usually know everything that’s going on. This is unlike you, Lyre.”

A small smile came to the proud feline’s face. It was nice to see her kin again after so long. It warmed her heart. “I missed you too,” Lethe said calmly, still keeping up her cool persona. Lyre looked up to her older sister. That much was obvious. Just look at the way she dressed. Her outfit totally had to have been inspired by Lethe’s wardrobe.

The cat laguz looked around trying to get an understanding of their surroundings. “Learania? Is that the name of this town?”

Ed stuck her tongue between her teeth for a moment in an odd manner of contemplation. She tilted her head this way, then that way, while she glanced all around without moving her head as if trying to catch any thoughts that were trying to sneak away. An experiment? How crazy could people get? And this was done by her family? Ed knew her family would never stoop to such a low, even if they did know how to perform that sort of experiment. Ed had a good family.

Ed also had a soft spot for tragic figures, and by her household's goddess, Hatmon definitely sounded tragic. Ed drew the bane against evil over herself and sat close to Hatmon. At least the experimentation thing explained how Hatmon was different from Ed herself: Hatmon's mother and sister more than likely had used different formulae since the approach didn't sound the same.

"Well that's lousy," Ed commented, twirling a thread of her unkempt hair — hair that used to be brown. "It didn't turn out so bad though, did it?"
PostPosted: Fri Jun 26, 2009 7:08 pm

“Not really. I was knocked out when the process itself occurred, so all I remember was getting hit in the head before blacking out and when I woke up I was a chimera.” Hatmon tried to make everything sound as simple and clean as possible. The past had always been something Hatmon found better left there, so she decided to spare the girl of a lot of the messy details involving the incident. She had always wondered if she was better off having been knocked out to never know what occurred or being awake and knowing of everything.

Since her days locked in a cage, she had long contemplated what might have occurred during those minutes conscientious alluded her. What she knew of the incident was a jumble of things she had heard her family say mixed with her own ideas, so that they had blurred together so much she no longer knew what the truth was exactly. She assumed that had she been awake it would have been most painful, having one’s chemical make-up rearranged didn’t sound like some walk in the park. The memories from around that time were muddled as well, which could have only been the cause of some drug taking effect. Either way, as much as she wished to keep her wondering on the matter at bay, they still continued to haunt her; even though she would never have the answers to her questions.

“On the bright side, I would have long been dead if not for them.” The reason for her longevity was another mystery she had yet to answer. By now she had far out stripped the combined life expectancy of both a normal human and the fox she had been merged with, and as far as she knew had out lived her family. She liked to think that anyway, for she had never gone back to visit them and liked to think of them having died for their sins against her. “And if I was dead, I wouldn’t have had the chance to meet you.”

Sophia was somewhat startled when an unidentified voiced began speaking. There had been no one in the room aside from her, and she had let no one into the room. As she turned her head towards the direction of the unknown speaker, relief washed over body when she realized it was just Kris giving his report. “Ah… K-kris… you sta—“ she began to say before her attention zoned in on the rolled up parchment he had pulled from his robes and tossed onto her desk.

As she picked up the object, she pulled the red ribbon off so that she might unroll it and look upon its contents. The cloth fell neatly onto the desk as she opened the map up. A small slip of paper fell from the rolled up object as she unrolled it, causing her to become flustered as she dropped the map onto the desk and snatched up the paper before it hit the floor. Written on the paper was a note addressed to her. As Sophia read the note, a sheepish smile appeared on her face. She made a small nod to herself when she had finished reading before rolling the map back up. “… Thanks,” she said softly before she hurried out of the room without another word.

Due to the confinement in the castle since the riots started, not only had Sophia been constantly checked up on, but her tomes and staffs had been taken and locked away so that she dare not try to escape. Even if she managed to get away she had no money with which to buy weapons and would therefore be little more than a sitting duck. Kris had taken care of all of this for her though, for while she ran off to help the rest of FEF, Kris would stay behind and pretend to be her. The manakete had also prepared for her a horse so that she might travel and make good time. The horse’s saddle bags had been stocked with a few select tomes for the lady as well as well as a Physic and Barrier that had been strapped to animal’s side. Thus, once she managed to make her way through the castle and to the prepared mount, she would be off without further delay.

Ed started clicking the toes of her shoes together. She nibbled on her thumbnail as she listened, nodding. So Hatmon's lived a really long time... Ed wondered if she would live that long for being a chimera. Somehow, she doubted it. But Hatmon was sounding a lot more like a laguz now, and Ed found herself being a bit jealous.

"Wow..." Ed mumbled. She had been the type to believe that having such great longevity was a miraculous and amazing thing. She had never really considered the negative aspects of lengthened lifetimes. Ed wished she could live as long as a laguz, especially since the guy who turned her into a chimera was going to live for thousands and thousands of years! Those would be lonely years, she bet. Maybe she could extend her own lifespan somehow. She would see!

"Me?" She blinked after hearing Hatmon's last statement. Ed was really somewhat humble, so she was not certain of how to interpret that. "Oh, I'm nothing special. Just a farm girl who learned to read and got lucky with the guild. That's all... She shifted to get more comfortable. "Although I reckon I wouldn't have met you if you were dead either!" She split a friendly grin, not entirely affected by the fox-chimera's nature.
