Shade blinked as Verdant and Dreamer we called out of the ballroom. Curiousity ate away at him, but he stayed put - whatever was going on wasn't any of his business. If Verdant wanted to tell him about it later, the impling assumed that he would. For now, he'd just wait. Besides, he might as well take this opportunity to get to know Elst and Aoi better, right?
"So...do you...live nearby?" the teenager asked, his tail swishing back and forth behind him. He wasn't the best at keeping up an interesting conversation, but he was trying. The impling was enjoying the ball thus far, yes, but that didn't make it any easier for the shy impling to socialize.

Astan cast a curious glance at Eli and his dog as they and several others were seemingly herded off into the bowels of the manor. What the... Oh. Oh.
"Sure thing. Be right back," he said to the girl. He hoped she would stay put, waiting for food from a complete stranger, so he could ask her some questions. He strolled over to the buffet, his calm gait and demeanor in direct conflict with his racing thoughts. Examining the piles of food for things that might be deemed 'sweet,' Astan decided on a pink puff and some sort of small dark chocolate cup-shaped cake, each on its own dainty plate. He swung past the cornucopia of alcohol, somehow nabbing a beer for himself while still keeping a tight grip on the food. Astan muttered a brief but friendly hello to the people gathered there and meandered back to Lee's side. "Which one?" he asked, holding out the hand that held the desserts for her to see while taking a swig of his beer with the other. "Or both."

Aoi eyed Verdant’s drink for a moment, before quickly snagging the lime wedge that was delicately cut onto the glass’s rim. It had soaked in the bubbly beverage long enough to take in the drink’s flavor, and Aoi, lacking a mouth, was lucky that his delicate fingers could substitute. Like roots, they absorbed things, and in Aoi’s case, those ‘things’ were flavors. He could tell why Elst loved these ‘mojito’ things so much.
Elst, while puzzled as to why Dreamer and Verdant had been called off, still made an attempt on the newly virginified drink the waiting staff had given him. He sipped at it a bit, then suddenly took a large gulp, enjoying it immensely. Now alone with Shade, he commented on the newly-discovered virgin drink. “Oh, wow, you aren’t missing out with the absence of alcohol, the virgin version tastes even better!”
He fell silent for a moment, listening to the boy’s questions. “Well, not exactly nearby… I run a Nursery, the Elysian Gardens, on the outskirts of town, and my house sits in the middle of it all. Perhaps you may have heard of it? The Nursery, that is. You live anywhere near here?”

"I have brothers?" This was definitely news to Lauss, as his dancing halted immediately. The proto spinned in place, trying to locate these relatives Ellandra spoke of. And now she seemed to be heading on to other things, but... this left no closure. Lauss looked around for someone he recognized... Most of these people were complete strangers; Lee wasn't even in sight anymore. Anyone semi-recognizable would do at this point.
There. That man. He was with Elle earlier; surely he would know something. Lauss swiveled through the crowd and up to the half demon, stopping in the man's path. "Miss Ellandra said I have brothers here. Do you know where these might be?"

Lee followed Astan's glance as the others moved on, but was happy to hear that she'd be getting some treats soon. As the man came back with a plate in each hand, Lee surveyed the offerings, wondering which would be for her until... Both...? She sighed. With no where to sit, that probably wouldn't be the best idea. Such an opportunity, wasted. She nodded her head toward the pink puff with a half-smile. She tilted her head a bit before asking, "Do you have an essentic?"

Faolan looked down when the blue Essentic addressed him. "Hello there, wee 'un. You're a friend of my wife's?" He patted the creature's head affectionately, figuring its owner was close by. "You have siblings. I'm sure Crux and Zia are around somewhere. I think Misha was with them. Aoi's over there with Elst." He pointed to the plant man.

Lauss let the man pat his head, but he honestly wasn't sure what that was all about. He turned his head in the direction Fao's gesture. "I'm related to them? Mister Crux mentioned nothing about this." He turned to head in the direction of these "siblings" but stopped when he just then heard the man's earlier words. "Miss Ellandra is married?" That wasn't what she'd told him when she stopped by before. "Do weddings normally happen so quickly?" He made a mental note, replacing the "unwed" he'd stored earlier with a "married".

"Well, ours did," Faolan laughed. "It's complicated, wean, but we had to get married sort of on the quick." He looked about, then down to the Essentic again. "Where's your owner?"

"Is it?" Shade was somewhat surprised by that - he was enjoying the virgin drink quite a bit, but he hadn't expected it to taste better than the original drink. He'd have to compare them when he got older...for now, he was quite content with the non-alcoholic drink.
A Nursery for plants? "The name sounds familiar..." Shade thought for a moment, trying to remember where he'd heard the name. "My Mom...might've gone there...she likes to look at plants sometimes." She'd probably have a small garden if is weren't for the fact that they lived in an apartment building. They DID have a few potted plants and some box-flowers on their window sills, however - she'd always been good with improvising.
"Our apartment's in the middle of the city...it's close to some of the schools and where she works, so...it's convenient for us." Since moving into the apartment seven years ago, getting to school had become much easier for Shade. It was a short walk from the apartments to his high school, as it had been for his elementary school. His mother's job was but a few short blocks away as well. "I bet it's nice out there though." He imagined a Nursery away from general business of town was probably pretty nice. He tried to imagine a house in the middle of a garden, the general picture that came to mind as he thought of the description Elst had given him - he must've had a nice view from his house!

"Nope, can't say that I do," Astan said. "Was it this big of a deal when you got..." Him? Her? It? "...yours?" Apparently, he was under the impression that Banning threw an epic party every time the man had a load of sparks to give out. He looked down at the chocolate cake-pie he had been left with and wondered if this girl's Essentic would like it, wherever it had gotten off to. Did they eat? The flower at least appeared interested in touching liquids. "I'm Astan Moore," Astan said, sticking his bottle in the crook of his elbow and holding out his hand for her to shake.

Elst nodded slightly, eyeing the rather tempting platter of cheesecake squares he spied on the table. Yeah, I've never been much of a city-dweller, myself. I hadn't much money, though, so my only option was to buy a plot of arid land, something nothing could grow on, so it'd be cheap. Plus, once the city government found out I'd planned to rejuvenate the land, I got a fairly nice subsidy on the taxes, so its a lot cheaper to run the Nursery. Either way, the land certainly is nice now. You should visit sometime, I don't mind having people come in and just enjoy the natural surroundings, you needn't buy anything."
Shutting up for a moment, Elst gave in and nabbed one of the tempting cheesecake bits. He took a small bite, enjoying the rich flavor, noticing there was just a slight hint of chocolate and caramel mixed in. Master DeLonghy certainly has good taste in food... he mused.

Lauss didn't congratulate the man; instead, he pondered what other information he could get out of him without being too obvious about it. That was a major step for the proto. This was the first lesson he'd learned from Lee, and it had only taken him his entire (short) life to get this far. But being socially adept was really hard... In the midst of trying to think of a way to ask the man what his name/job/education was, Lauss was distracted by Fao's own question. "Miss Lee was talking with a dog earlier..." He searched through the crowd, and pointed out Lee, who was no longer with the canine from before, and pointed out to her. "There." He turned to the man. "Are you interested in meeting her?" Perhaps Lee might get all this information that the proto so desired in a manner she found suitable. He seemed to have forgotten all about those siblings he wanted to meet already.

Lee gave a face that said "oh, that sucks...". He must be interested, though; why else would he be here?
The girl shook her head, replying, "Naw, I just went to see them and they handed him over. Apparently it was already set up, though, so I didn't stay there long." She pulled off a glove and popped the pink puff into her mouth. Yummm. Her posture was slouching once again; even in such a nice building, wearing such a nice dress, she can forget her manners. "What kind were you thinking about getting?" Honestly, she didn't know a lot about essentics in general, but she flipped through the pamphlet she'd received and got the basic gist.
She took the plate in her other hand and reached out to return the handshake. "Lee Katan." It was nice, introducing herself. She thought back to that last time she'd done that, and only came up with Lauss and her parents taking that part over for her. Right, Lauss... where was he? "I'd introduce Lauss if I knew where he was..." She took a quick glance around, but it was useless. She'd run into him eventually. If she didn't... well, she wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

Faolan looked in the direction the blue Essentic was pointing, taking note of the young girl. Odd. All the other owners were adults. He nodded at the Essentic's question, very much wanting to meet this girl who was not only a fellow owner, but a friend of his wife's. "Yeah, take me to her."

Shade nodded, thinking that, perhaps, he would take Elst up on his offer. Perhaps he could go one day with Verdant - if his friend was working for Elst, that would make it all the easier to get to the Nursery. "Alright, that sounds like it could be fun."
The impling put his now-empty glass down on the table behind him and paused as he spotted yet another kind of cake a little ways down on the table - he couldn't tell what it was, exactly, but it looked to be made of chocolate. The teen quickly turned away, using his willpower to keep from taking some of it - there were other items on the table, and it probably wouldn't be good is all he ate were sweets tonight.
"Does Aoi help you with the plants?" Shade's eyes went to the Essentic before he looked back to Elst, curious as to what it was that Aoi did. It certainly looked like a plant, so he wouldn't be surprised if Aoi helped Elst at the Nursery.

"Ah." So this was a special party then. "I dunno," Astan replied. "Something to do with music, I guess." He wasn't terribly familiar with the categories Essentics fell into, but he had heard of the Services type a long time ago from his parents.
Lauss. Astan scanned the crowd for the proto as well, hoping he'd recognize him after only being in his immediate vicinity for a matter of moments. Nope. "I'm sure I'll meet him later," he said with a grin. "What does Lauss help you with?" Maybe hearing what others did with theirs would help him decide what he would use one for.

Lauss nodded once, quickly darting through the crowd without thinking of whether or not Fao could catch up. "Please follow me," he chirped. It was, after all, a bit easier to get through a mob of people when you didn't have feet.
"That's cool. Are you a musician?" Hm. This was easier than she expected it to be. At his next comment, Lee hoped to herself that he wouldn't end up meeting him. He'd already pestered Eli and Kell, and they were only around a few minutes. "He's... my tutor." It was slightly embarrassing to have to admit that she needed something like that, and her cheeks turned a bit pink. As she was about to hide her face, Lee saw a blue streak out of the corner of her eye and held her hand up to Astan to let him know she'd be right back. She lifted the front of her dress up slightly as she half ran over to the proto, meeting him in the middle. "Lauss, stick close from now on, okay, I couldn't see y--" She just then noticed Fao. Uh-oh. Did he rip someone's dress? Knock over the punch bowl? Lee knew he must have done something wrong. "I-I'm sorry, if he broke anything, I'll pay for it! He didn't hurt someone did he?" "Miss Lee, this man wants to meet you." Lee tilted her head. Why would he want to meet me?
