Jiyuu caught up to the two about half a minute later practically wheezing for breath. "Sheesh, Embri..." the colt said, sides heaving. "When did... you get so... fast?" At least the chase was over. For the time being anyway. Worried that she might try to suddenly bolt again, the speckled colt stood fairly close to his adopted sister, ready to attempt to stop her again if need be. Hopefully though she wouldn't do anything rash with their mother their.

"m-m-molt?" Embri looked up at Kindle, flinching as she licked her cheek, eyes rolling. "Is it contagious? I ... didn't want to make anyone else sick... " The filly resisted the urge to scratch. It did itch, but rubbing only made the feather loss worse. As Jiyuu approached, Embri shook her head slightly, tears welling up in her eyes.
"How could you *not* want me gone? I threatened my foster-sib, ran off into the night, brought down some horrible ailment on the herd and been a general bad omen from the get go!" Sorrowfully, Embri buried her nose in the ground between her forelegs.

Kindle paused as she listened to Embri's worries and her list of indiscretions, a gentle, loving smile on her face. "Embri, you're one of us, regardless of parentage. Even if you were sick, even if you were contagious, we would take care of you because we're your family. And you're ours."
A gentle, encouraging nuzzle as she turned over the rest in her head. "Now..." She preened the filly's feathers gently, a few downy feathers coming loose. "Molting is perfectly normal, and something your brother and sister will go through in time." A bath should do it, and a bit of a sun when the sun finally rose, which shouldn't be too long now.

Hadn't Jiyuu suggested molting earlier? Well, it couldn't be helped if Embri wasn't familiar with the term. Only reason he even knew about it was because he had heard the term from his mother long ago and asked what it was. With a small sigh, the colt laid himself down on the ground, the crisis seeming to be over. Sheesh, it's too early to do so much running...

Toshiro's ears faced forward, following the soft sound of conversation. It seemed that he and Chione were getting closer, and that Embri had succeeded in locating the kids. "How long have you been up for now, Chione," he asked softly as they walked along. The fact that he had slept through all of that disturbed him just a bit. He needed to be far more alert, even in his sleep. What if a predator had come near? I'm going to need to start sleeping closer to the outside. Don't want any repeats of this.

Trying not to get Kindle's leg too soggy, the filly tucks her head up against it. "If you're sure... I'm happy to have a place to belong." Embri looked up at Kindle and over at Jiyuu guiltily. "Jiy said something about.. about molts. I thought... I thought he was just trying to make me feel better... 'sorry Jiyuu." Embri mumbled, abashed.
"so... I'm, I'm supposed to be losing feathers?" The filly wrinkled her brows in concern, not looking quite convinced. "But why? They just finished growing in!"

Chione frowned thoughtfully, glancing up at her father in surprise at the question. Thus far, they'd traveled in silence, and aside from the distant sounds of conversation, she'd assumed they would continue. "I uh- I don't know..." Her ears flattened as she came up around his side, glancing up at him timidly. The eyes. He was gonna whip 'em out at any second, she just knew it. That stern and disappointed yet entirely loving and somehow heartbroken gaze that only her father knew how to give. "The moon was about there when we left." Pausing, she pointed her nuzzle to a point in the sky, almost directly above the pair of them.

Kindle smiled gently. Oh, but the cream colored filly was cute. All of their children were. "Oh, Embri, your place is here with us." She cast her son a glance, a little surprised. "Jiyuu, you remember that? I molted just after I had the two of you." A soft sound of assent as she glanced back down to the little filly, so much larger now than she had been when they'd found her. "Because you're growing, and your feathers can't grow with you. They're a covering, not themselves alive, so sometimes, we shed them and grow them anew. It's a little like the snake's skin you three found in the forest first of Solri. He sheds the old and a new one grows in its place."

"I see," Toshiro replied, glancing up at the sky to where his daughter pointed. The stallion looked back down at his daughter with a faint smile. "You needn't look so nervous, Chione. You're not in trouble." It wasn't as if she could help the fact that her brother and foster sister had run off on their own. "Just make sure to wake me up in the future, alright? I wouldn't want something to happen to any of you three."

Jiyuu gave the to a small nod, both to accept Emri's apology and in answer to his mother's question. While the two spoke, the colt looked about tiredly, ears perking up when he heard the approach of something coming. By the time he scrambled back up to his feet, Toshiro and Chione where in sight of them. "Ah, hi dad... sis..." He cast his gaze downward nervously, knowing that he would most likely be in trouble for running off without telling them.
"Hello," Toshiro greeted back, first looking the three of them over briefly to make sure everyone was alright. "Would someone care to explain what's going on?" His voice was calm, but it still held a sense of authority to it that only a father could pull off.

The filly looked back over her shoulder at the sound of Toshiro's voice, ears flattening down against her skull. Oh no. Now everyone was up, dragged out into the barely dawning day because of her. With a nervous sigh Embri turned around, short feathery tail tucked against her rump.
"I... they're... it's my fault." Embri skittered, unable to settle on an opening sentence. "I've been losing feathers... and, Jiyuu followed me, then Kindle..." The half-grown filly turned back towards the mare for reassurance. "I thought it was bad, I didn't understand why they were falling out." With another sigh and a shrug of her shoulders, another feather joined the snowy litter at her hooves. "Didn't mean to wake everyone up."

Chione breathed a soft sigh of relief inwardly. She was out of the line of fire for now, and their dad didn't seem too upset. Tilting her head, she looked toward her brother, then Embri. So that was it. The cream colored filly was losing feathers. Intrigued, she moved cautiously around her father, entranced by the little pile of fluff at Embri's hooves. They caught the moonlight and almost seemed to be glowing.
Tutting softly, Kindle shook her head. "It's nothing, Embri. But next time," she smiled, "let us know? Even if something had happened, was happening, we want to be here with you for it. Now, let's get a cool bath. It will soothe the itch."

Toshiro gave a nod of agreement with Kindle's words. "Don't ever be afraid to share anything with us, Embri. You are just as much a daughter to Kindle and I as Chione and Jiyuu are."
"Daughter?" Jiyuu scoffed quietly, his face scrunching up a bit. He was no girl!
The brown stallion chuckled at the look on his son's face. "I misspoke. The point is, we are all a family here and we support each other."

Embri nodded shyly, poking the feathers with one golden hoof. "It won't happen again." Giggling, she looked at Jiyuu, "Surrrrre you're not a girl? You're pretty enough to be a girl!"
Scratching at one wing with her horn, the filly gives up and gallops for the water. "LAST ONE IN IS A FUZZ TAIL!" A trail of downy cream feathers swirled in her wake.
