Alex stumbled back as Calista pushed him suddenly. He was shocked to find a woman appear suddenly and a dagger impaled Calista. Alex caught his balance and leaped forward to strike the strange woman but her body faded away like smoke as she teleported away. Alex quickly went to check on Calista with their adversary no longer here.

Calisto looked at Alex as she seemed to whimper only a little at the barbed dagger being in her arm. She couldn’t remove it as she just about cried out in pain as she attempted to pull it out. She could feel it pull on the flesh of her arm. “It’s barbed…let’s get to the others, maybe they know a way to remove it. We got to feed the fire spirit before it dies out.” Calisto would wince in pain as she looked at Alex smiled weakly.

I can remove the dagger but you are right. If the fire spirit isn't fed it might fall back to sleep." Alex said as he careful helped Calista move. That other guy back there said he was a healer. Maybe he could stop the bleeding after I take out the dagger. If not I will have to cauterize the wound with the fire spirits help.

Calisto would nod as she began to walk carefully holding some wood in one arm grateful for Alex’s help for getting back to the others. Her eyes would narrow every so often. She was not certain what was going on, but she had an idea. She was losing too much blood and her vision was fading because of it. She had to get the dagger out soon to treat the wound. “I may be able to treat the wound back at camp once the dagger is out.”

Alex escorted Calista into the small camp where the other two still stayed.
"Help me by clearing a spot to lay Calista down. I don't know how much time we have." Alex said as he called out to the others.

Ewan, having assessed the situation, was already in the process of moving things around to accommodate Calisto. He laid a blanket down where she could be placed. "Put Calisto right here," he said, "and let's have a look at that wound." He wanted to ask what had happened to them, but knew that now was not the time for questions. The injured woman required a healer's undivided attention.

Calisto would painfully lay down as she did the dagger would jar in her arm causing her to scream out in pain. She didn’t expect that to happen as she looked at both Ewan and Alex. She just wanted the dagger out of her arm as she held it close. Her vision was fading from blood loss. “Just get the dagger out…But carefully, the barbs on the dagger has a hold of my flesh…”

Alex laid Calista down and took his knife from his belt and made a little prayer before he put the knife to her skin near the barbed dagger.
"This is gonna hurt Calista but I'll make this as fast as I can." Alex said as he pulled the dagger out as his knife cut free wherever it grabbed her flesh and muscle. The dagger was finally out as Alex dropped both knives and looked to Ewan ready to help if he could.

Calisto would feel the dagger be cut from her arm as she tried hard to not scream out in pain or pull away. The blood loss instead caused her to lose consciousness. Her head would tilt to the side as her eyes closed and beads of sweat formed on her forehead. She knew Alex did what he thought was best, and that everyone was trying their hardest to save her. She was grateful on the inside.

Ewan watched, impressed with Alex's knife work. It made his part much easier not not have that dagger in the way. He knelt down next to Calisto and set to work. "Lucky for you," he said to his patient, knowing full well she wouldn't hear him, "this is an easy injury to heal." The healer concentrated once again. A white light appeared inside the wound as the muscle fibres began to stitch themselves together. The blood vessels came together and the skin returned to its uncut state. The light faded away; Ewan started to wrap a bandage around Calisto's arm, just as a formality.

Akira watched Ewan working. She nibbled her lip worriedly. "Will she be alright?" The princess asked softly. watching Calisto. "Is there anything I can do to help?" She asked, feeling not feeling very useful.

"She'll be just fine," Ewan answered with a smile, "as long as she gets some rest, and food when she awakens." He produced a small rag and handed it to Akira. "Meanwhile, dear, can you take this and soak it with water? It wouldn't hurt to cool her head down a bit."

Alex looked down at Calista and sighed as he wiped her blood off his dagger on the grass before he picked up the barbed dagger. Shutting his eyes he concentrated on the dagger and called out to whatever spirit he could muster for answers.
A spirit in the steel called to Alex and told him the blade was poisoned to kill but could not tell who its owner was.
"Ewan...did you sense any poison in her system? This dagger is claiming it was poisoned." Alex said surprised.

Ewan shook his head. "I didn't detect any foreign materials. If there was any poison, it was either eradicated on contact or blocked altogether."
