Seth looked at Vlaityn with his arctic eyes and spoke in a voice he had never possesed before. A voice as harsh as steel scraped over granite. "Reshop came. He found my home on Loch Ness over the Easter holidays." Seth melted half of another boulder with an angry slash of his wand. "Esrath is dead. I put a shrinking spell on him for school, but back home he's fourty feet and quite capable of defending himself. All I found were a few scales and some charred bone." Seth bit his lip, glowing eyes faltering. Blood ran down his chin as he continued. "I went to check on Aunt Evelin across the way, and her door was blown inward. She hadn't just been murdered with Avada Kedavera. She'd been tortured until her heart gave out. A hundred and five years old, she was." He looked away from Vlaityn, knuckles white on the hilt of his wand. The very air around him seem to crackle with Dark Magic, but the teenager himself was broken and utterly beaten.

Vlaityn continued to tap her chin and watch the gray lake waters intently, though still hanging on to Seth's every word. It was terrible news, to be sure, yet somehow not shocking due to his personality and sketchy past. A large frown creased her normally aloof features at the thought of a dead Esrath. Always such an oddly personality filled and charming thing.

The frown on Vlaityn's face only increased as she realized how terribly alone that made Seth. He was always alone except for that snake and occasional visits to the few he knew in Scotland.

Vlaityn dropped an arm to her side and gripped Seth firmly on one shoulder without moving her gaze. "Why?" She inquired simply, trying to keep pity and sadness out of her voice. The last thing she needed was to anger the already anguished boy.

"Because of me," he said. His words were hollow and dead sounding, far from the intense and determined manner he usually displayed. "I've tried to blame my stepmother for this, for bringing Reshop down on us in the first place. But I kept the feud going. When they cornered us that one time, me and Dad, I took their threats too seriously. They probably wouldn't have actually hurt us. At least not initially. But I couldn't let them threaten us. I couldn't just sit by and take it. And so when they reached out to rough Dad up, I blew off the guy's hand with Diffindo. The rest of them tried to pull out their wands and I illegally Apparated us out of there. Reshop sent another guy days later to really mess me up, and in the wandfight that followed I ruptured the ceiling. He was killed by a falling rooftile. The short version of what happened next is that I confunded Dad and my stepmother, told them to go to America and not come back, then moved out to Loch Ness and waged open war on Reshop for a year. Then I came here hoping to just drop off their radar screens and be a normal guy for a change. But everyone here knows I'm not one of them, and now not even sheer dark power could have stopped Reshop. And it's all because of me."

A single jet-black tear sprung from Seth's eye and burned a raw, crimson trail down his face before dropping to smoke on the rock below. He looked at it with horror, seeing the consequences of using dark magic beginning to show themselves. "My life seems to be ruled by the cliche, 'I never meant for any of this to happen.' And now I'm becoming just like Voldemort. I've got power now. But for no reason. There's no one to protect. And I can feel the darkness gnawing at my heart."

Biting her lip and thinking slowly, Vlaityn sat down on the grass next to Seth and ran a hand through her wind blown hair. As troubling as the tragic story was, the obvious effects the turmoil was having on Seth physically bothered her even more. Turning her mind back to his words, Vlaityn attempted not to stare tear-scorched rock near them.

"You don't seem one to let such a troublesome force just eat away at your insides. It is something you either cast off or allow to happen." Vlaityn leaned back slightly and pondered some more. "And would it not be more cliche to let said force overtake you?"

Reaching into her pocket, Vlaityn was highly thankful of the scrap of a dragon skin underbelly rag she had left in there for lord knew how long. Leaning forward, she wiped the red tear trail off of Seth's cheek, trying to look unbothered by the odd crackling noise it made on contact with the rough cloth.

"You're better than all that Seth. I know that for a fact." Vlaityn declared stoutly, meeting her eyes for the first time.

Seth most uncharacteristically let Vlaityn wipe the pain from his burned skin. His fists opened and closed as he tried to keep any more tears from falling. He exhaled and looked up at Vlaityn. "Thank you," Was all he said, at least in words. His eyes spoke volumes more, but he broke the contact and picked up his wand, brushing a bit of nonexistent dirt from it.
"It feels so... Empty. Not having Esrath, I mean. He was close to the heart in both senses." Seth heaved a sigh, meeting Vlaityn's gaze once more. "D'you think he had family, back in Egypt? I know his species guarded the tombs, but he never said much about himself. Listened mostly. Wiser than me." Seth's head lowered to rest on his arms just about the time his voice choked off. Normal tears spattered the rock between his feet, though he made no sound, and his body was motionless against the rock.

As the tears began to fall, Vlaityn handed the no longer sizzling cloth to Seth for his own personal use and placed a hand firmly on his shoulder. "I'm sure he had family. But I'm also sure they would have rather had him with you than them. Think of all the grand things he probably got to see and taste with you rather than a sandy tomb in Egypt. And you needed him. Even things not human realize there are few things more rewarding than being needed."

Heaving a sad, sad sigh, Vlaityn returned to staring at the lake. "Such tremendous tragedies make normal people quite wise. Maybe that's why there are so few truly wise men today. They don't experience such great hurt like you just did. Maybe this whole, terrible thing will make you as wise as Esrath. I think that would be an excellent way to remember him."

Seth nodded minutely, wiping his face with the cloth and returning it to Vlaityn. He pushed himself off the ground and looked off into the Scottish countryside, the wind playing with the hem of his somewhat tattered cloak. He gritted his teeth and turned away. Raising his eyes again to Vlaityn, he said quietly, "I fancy a butterbeer. Do you want to go to Hogsmead?" His wand made a quiet hiss as he twirled it and thrust it back into its black velvet holder.

Seamus stretched out his arms and smiled at the group, near oblivious to the tension among the group. "Well now. This is nice, yeah? Break from classes, in the sun, s'good stuff." His thoughts wandered to his own class load, and how different they were from his classes elsewhere. So far, Hogwarts was his favorite school.

" Of course." Vlaityn nodded slowly in agreement, folding her dragon underbelly cloth precariously before replacing it. "Consider it my treat too, yeah?" She insisted, patting Seth stoutly on the shoulder one more time before brushing the dirt off of her jeans and robes. "A nice quick little break from the immediate school scenery, yes?" Stretching slightly, Vlaityn turned and began to walk away from the lake.

"U-uhm, yes. It's very n-nice. Ohh, excuse me." Quickly getting up, Kari headed for the closest water's edge and let out a deep breath. She felt relief wash through her as she had gotten farther away from the now fairly large group. Placing a hand on her forehead she tried to get over her slight feverish feeling, not to mention her head was pounding like there was a war drum being beaten. Dropping to her knees on the grass close to the water, she let out a deep sigh, bowed her head, and closed her eyes.

Lacey, who had been sitting at the edge of the lake, stared at the girl next to her. Her eyes curiously looked the girl over and then she asked in a subdued tone. "Are you alright?" Lacey expression was one of intrest and calm mixed into one. In Lacey's mind she would have been quite abnoxious, to see what had happened, however Lacey had restrained herself this moment of doing anything to bold.

Makala llowed a seemingly nice and sincere smile spread across her face. "Yes, quite nice indeed," she replied, watching Kari nearly run to the water's edge. Her smile fell, to be replaced with a concerned look. "What's the matter with her?" she asked, allowing a little too much of the fake worry to seep into the question. She looked at Moria from the corner of her eye, praying she wouldn't notice. She was, after all, the only one she truely had to convince to be able to stay. Makala stood, watching Kari once more. "Perhaps one of us should go make sure she's alright?" she suggested, and slowly began walking towards the Gryffindor.

'Merlin's beard,' Sezer thought in exasperation, scanning the lake for what he felt must certainly be the tenth time. Here he was, having gone around ever since he realized her absence about three hours ago, looking for his girl friend of the past few months or so. He'd been all over school, he had! She wasn't in the library, not in the owlery, not in the kitchens (though he'd known it was a bit of a long shot to look there), not in the Great Hall, the Entrance Way, she wasn't in any of the corridors he'd been down, and she wasn't in the Ravenclaw Common Room. Logically, he knew that it was possible she could be up in her dorm, but, then, he couldn't find someone, like Amelia, to go look for him. 'Vlaityn, where have you gotten to?' He asked himself again for what was precisely the thirty second time (he'd been keeping track, if for no other reason to entertain himself).

He let out a very much exasperated sigh and looked again at his immediate surroundings. This was virtually the last place he had access to that he thought she'd be, so if Vlaityn wasn't here, he was either a very unlucky bloke, or she was asleep or in the loo, or something. As it did turn out, he was a very unlucky bloke that day, though for a different reason.

'There she is!' He felt the by now familiar swell of joy at seeing her and his spirits rose with his head subsequently. He walked over to them at what for him, with his long legs, was a speedy pace when he abruptly stopped. He'd been about to call out her name and politely introduce himself to her male companion, after all, Sezer was not the jealous type (usually), when he saw that her arm had just been around his shoulder. Again, logic intervened. 'It means nothing,' the Einstein Voice told him, 'she's merely comforting a comrade. That's what our Vlaityn does.' For the briefest moment of resumed happiness, he believed the voice, but then he discerned the direction in which they were headed. 'To Hogsmeade.' This time the voice was slower and less sure to comment: 'Maybe they're just... just... Going for a butter beer as friends?' He snorted to himself privately.

A million thoughts flooded through his usually very intelligent brain at one time. 'She wants to break up.' 'She fancies that odd bloke, Seth Norton. And he's in her year, too!' 'They're going on a date to Hogsmeade.' The dramatic irony that added to his heavy heart was the fact that he'd been planning on asking her the past several Hogsmeade weekends, but he'd always been studying... Granted, he'd apologized at least seven times for each date, and she'd always insisted that she didn't mind, and she'd always stayed with him and studied, but.... Merlin, he was horrible!

With another heavy sigh that sounded purely resigned and hopeless, he debated half-heartedly, he himself half-surprised that he was able to form coherent thoughts, where to go for solitude. However, when nothing came to mind, he merely plunked down on the ground right then and there, which just so happened to be near a grand weeping willow. 'Fitting,' He thought dryly upon discovering what type of tree it was. Apparently feeling very dammed, he laid his thumb and the rest of his fingers on opposing sides of his nose and held his face while his elbow leaned against his knee. His other hand was holding his left elbow and was bent at its own joint. Quietly, he contemplated how best to go about the remainder of his year.

Kari nearly gasped out loud as a voice reached her ears from...right beside her. Opening her navy eyes, the brunette turned to look at the girl next to her and simply blinked. She was eventually able to find her voice. "U-uhm, yes. I just felt a tad bit feverish for a moment or two. It's gone now." Sighing silently and glancing slightly over her shoulder, her eyes widened. Makala was coming over here! Oh no! This was bad. Very, very bad. "Please don't come over here...not yet." She whispered breathlessly to herself.

Lacey's eyes remained in the same dreamy like fashion, even though the girl had commented in a very scared or distance way. But then she turned to the girl and said in a soothing voice. "I could distract the person if you wish..." Lacey kept her voice low, so the others couldn't hear her. Sometime she was just weird that way, helping strangers whom she didn't know. She was just acting herself, just acting Lacey.

Lacey glanced at the upcoming Slytherin, seeing right through her innocent and worry-some presentation. She whispeared to the Gryffindor, quickly.
"That girl over there doesn't really care, its her facade..." Lacey eyes had fallen onto the lake, pretending to have not whispeared anything into the Gryffindor's ear. "She doesn't seem like the sweetest person, either" Lacey had said. She had been talking about the Slytherin who was on her way up here right now.
