The Immobilizer 418 may be the latest and most advanced Interdictor on the scene, but it wasn't the first.

The Interdictor-class was first developed for the Sith fleet of Darth Revan, during the Jedi Civil War. Like the Sith Interceptors, the Interdictors were created by the Star Forge, and possibly were of Rakatan origin, though iot could very well have been one of Revan's own designs, possibly based on Mandalorian warships.

The Interdictor was probably the most powerful ship of the line during the Jedi Civil War. A mere 600 meters meant that it was only the size of a Frigate or Heavy Frigate, like the Acclamator or Nebulon-B classes. Each ship was armed with 20 quad-laser cannons, two ion cannons, and four gravity well projectors. The lead ship of the class, Leviathan, was the command ship of Darth Malak and Admiral Saul, and in addition to the standard armament, also came with four turbolasers and a tractor beam.

In addition, each vessel also carried a wing of 48 Sith Interceptors, 2 shuttles, 3,600 passengers, and 11,000 tons of cargo.

The shape of the design served later as an influence to the Acclamator and Venator-class Frigate and Destroyer. Thus, it can be argued that the Interdictor was the first true Star Destroyer. The only records of it's existance exist in ancient Sith lore, and old Republic (now Imperial) military records.

Before the CR-70 and CR-90 corvettes that became famous under the Rebel Alliance, there was the Foray-class.

This was the pinnacle of corvette-size ships, during the Jedi Civil War. 155 meters of thin, relatively light starcraft, ending in massive engines that made this baby scream like a cave bat. Class 2 hyperdrive was state-of-the-art for the age, and it's impressive armament included:

2 Dual Turbolaser Turrents
1 Anti-Starfighter Turrent
8 Turbo Laser Cannons

Crew ranged from 40-100 with passengers up to 300. It could carry 2,800 tons of cargo, and had enough consumables to last up to 9 months in space.

The heavy armament meant that the vessel was actually designed for a hit-and-run strategy,. These vessels weren't very sturdy, but they were faster than anything out there, and had enough firepower to punch holes in larger capital ships. In small groups, these vessels could pack-hunt and chase down slower, larger prey.

The downside: no hangar. That means no shuttle, or starfighter complement.

Before the Republic had the Acclamator and Consular-class Cruisers, they used these luggers. Large frigates that could be crewed by a scant 300, these vessels were the workhorse of the Republic fleet during the Jedi Civil War.

Class 2 hyperdrive, 315 meters, and a mediocre armament:

4 Dual Heavy Turbolasers
2 Turbolasers
2 Point-Defense Laser Batteries
2 Laser Turrents

What made this ship better than the smaller Foray-class, was it's larger size. Not only could it hold up to 400 passengers and 4,000 tons of cargo, it also had a hangar that could carry a squadron of 12 Aurek-class fighters and 2 shuttles.

DOwnside? During it's heyday of the JCW, this was the largest vessel the Republic Navy could field, being just over half the size of the much larger and more powerful Interdictor-class that the Sith used. Ouch.

One of the deadliest starfighters ever made, even 4,000 years since it's inception. The Sith Interceptor makes VULTURE Droid Starfighters look like flies.

The vessel was an original Star Forge design, featuring a prototype Twin Ion Engine nearly 4000 years before Raithe Sienar developed his own. The ship was so fast, it had to have a specially designed chasis, along with S-foils to radiate heat.

The ship was fairly small, being 7 meters wide from wingtip to wingtip. Top speed: 1,250 mph in atmosphere. Crew was one pilot, with a single pair of laser cannons as armament.

While not very powerful, this ship had two very impressive points: it was dirt cheap, it could be churned out from the Star Forge like hotcakes, and it was very fast and maneuverable.

The Republic considered itself lucky that these vessels were extinct by 3,951.

The workhorse of the Republic Starfighter Corps for 3,000 years, the Aurek-class replaced the aging Star Saber XC-01 just prior to the Mandalorian War, and lasted all the way until the end of the New Sith Wars.

The vessel was created by Republic Fleet Systems. It only had one ilot, but the vessel sported a top speed of 1,400 mph in atmosphere, 2 heavy laser cannons, and 2 proton torpedo launchers. What gave it the 1-up over the Sith Infiltrator was the inclusion of hyperdrives.

All these systems came at a cost, however: the Aurek-class was easily three times as expenssive to make as the Sith Infiltrator, and despite claims of being easy to maintain and refuel, was a relatively expensive starfighter to field en masse.

The good points? Better speed and acceleration than the Infiltrator, as well as a smooth maneuver system. Plus, it worked just fine for 3,000 years, although it took several upgrades to stay onm top of it's game.

Similar to the E-STAP and the Trade Federation Droid Bomber, the Hyena was developed as the most potent bomber craft in the CIS Navy, by the end of the Clone Wars.

Designed very similar to the Vulture-droid Starfighter, the Hyena features a second head, armed with both proton torpedos and concussion missiles. They could also probably carry proton bombs.

Aiming was made possible by a red photorecptor underneath the hull, that allowed for advanced targeting.

Notably, the Hyena was pretty fast for a bomber, reaching a top speed just 50 mph slower than the Vulture droid. Thus, this craft was more correctly coined as a 'light bomber'.

Prepare to crap your pants.

The Imperator-class was the brainchild of Lira Wessex, that amazing female mind who also designed the Venator-class as well as the later Executor-class. At the time of it's inception, the Clone Wars was raging on, and the Republic was in need of an all-around warship, the could complement the battle-orientated Victories her father designed, as well as the more carrier-capable ships that were the Venator and Acclamator.

The result was 1,600 meters of raw kick-a**.

Each ship cost 3.88 billion credits, more than most star systems revenued in an entire year. She was powered by three KDY Destroyer-I Ion engines, as well as four smaller Cygnus Spaceworks Gemon-4 Ion engines. Hyperdrive was Class 2, with a Back-Up Class 8. Top speed: 60 MGLT, with 2,300 Gs of acceleration.

The ship was powered by a massive SFS I-a2b Solar Ionization Reactor. It's peak output was 7,730,000,000,000,000,000,000,000, made from annihilating several thousand tons of hypermatter fuel.

Crew requirements were enormous: 275 Gunners, 144 Pilots, a Stormtrooper division of 9,700 men, some 2,350 ship officers, 6,885 enlisted officers, the other 27,850 as ship crew and enlisted soldiers.

Cargo space was as impressive as the rest of the ship. On top of carrying 6 years worth of air, food, and water, it also had room for 36,000 tons of miscellaneous cargo.

In the Clone Wars, these ships carried Republic-era fighters and ships. By the New Order, however, they began to use the new TIE-series. Each ship came with a full Imperial Wing, 72 ships divided into 6 squadrons of 12. By 0 ABY, these included four TIE/In Squadrons, one TIE/Interceptor squadron, and one TIE/sa Bomber Squadron. In addition to this, she also came with:

12 TIE boarding craft
8 Lambda-class shuttles
15 Delta-class Stromtrooper transports
1 Gamma-assault shuttle,
A number of Theta-class AT-AT barges
12 Sentinel-class landing craft
5 Assault Gunboats
Various Repair/Recovery Vehicles
And a number of Skipray Blastboats

Communication was a HoloNet tranceiver, found standard on every ship, and working along with the deflector shields.

Each Destroyer also carried a number of vehicles for ground action. They were usually outfitted with whatever vehicles were needed for a conflict or operation, but standard they came with:

20 AT-AT Walkers
20 AT-ST Walkers

Additional, optional vehicles included:

2-M Saber-class Repulsor Tank
74-Z Speeder Bikes
AT-AA
Imperial Probe Droids
HAVT A6 Juggernaut
PX-4 Mobile Command Base
PX-7 Troop Transport
TIE-ap1

The ships carried two hangars. The largest was located beneath the ship, and featured massive doors that could close during combat, and was also responsible for launching ground troops and starfighters. The smaller shuttle was located near the bridge, about midway down, and served as a shuttle launch-point, as well as a return hangar for starfighters.

The bridge itself was a tower, located torward the back of the ship, and protruding from the body. It featured a centrally, heavily defended command deck, as well as the aforementioned back-up hangar.

The ships were impressively armed as well:

6 Dual Heavy Turbolasers
2 Dual Heavy Ion cannon Turrents
2 Quad Heavy Turbolasers
3 Triple Medium Turbolasers
2 Medium Turbolasers
60 Taim & Bak XX-9 Heavy turbolasers
60 Borstel NK-7 Ion Cannons
10 Phylon Q7 Tractor Beams

And to top it all off, each Destroyer comes with a pre-Fabricated base, that can be set up on planets that require a lasting Imperial presence.

At 1,600 meters, the Imperator class was the largest vessel made during the Clone Wars that saw full scale production. By the end of the war, the vessels were replacing the older, smaller ships used by the now-Imperial Navy, and within a few short years, formed the bulk and entirety of the fleet.

Each ship was led by a Captain, usually referred to as a Captain of the Line. In fact, in the Imperial Order of Battle, ISDs were considered Lines in themselves, operating often individually within the 24-destroyer groups that made up the local Sector Fleet.

But the ship wasn't all about destruction. They came equipped with enough room for all of the crew to live in relative comfort, as well as having entertainment. The ships were described as floating cities, including areas for leisure and even fine dining. These were thus the choice ship for travelling dignitaries and important personnel, and each ship came with an executive suite, which was usually reserved for the highest ranking official.

In total, between this and the later Imperial II-class, the Empire made 25,500 of these ships. Following the Galactic Civil War, most of these vessels were either destroyed in battle, or defected to the New Republic / Galactic Alliance.

They were succeeded by the Imperial-II class Star Destroyer, and served as the building block for the Interdictor Star Destroyer as well as the Tector-class Star Destroyer.

The original Imperial I-class Destroyer was a terror on the battlefield.

The Imperial II-class takes fear into a whole new level.

As Grand Moff Tarkin once said, "When faced with one of these vessels, rebellious planets tend to look at the ships that would be used as a defense, and regard the notion as suicidal, rather than approach the problem logically."

The Imperial-II is an upgrade in every way. It's differences, while minor, make a big impact. Aesthetically, the tractor beam array was removed from between the tower's sensor globes, and was replaced with a communications tower. In addition, the ship has no point-defense weaponry.

The weapons, in fact, are the biggest change. The twin heavy turbolasers and ion cannons were all replaced with octuple turbolaser cannons. Both the shielding and armor was improved as well: in fact, the bridge had enough armor to deflect attacks from concussion missiles.

Other additions included a grappling claw for holding onto small ships, such as Rebel corvettes, as well as emergency escape seats for turrent controllers.

The rest of the ship, including it's TIE, vehicle, soldiers, and crew complements were all the same.

But, the biggest boon, was the cost. While the Imperial-I class cost 3.88 billion credits, the Imperial-II was far more streamlined, and efficient. final price tag: 145,670,000 credits, or 27% cheaper.

That wasn't to say the ship had it's downsides, though. Alliance Special Operatives claimed that the ship had 174,000 design flaws, and the exstensive, unchanged crew requirements made the ship by far the most crew eintensive, pound for pound.

Still, when people think of the most powerful, and fear-instilling warships, they always think of the Imperial II-class first.
