I really really really really hope you're not getting your info on Japanese from Death Note.
As far as I know, death in Japanese is "shi," not Kira.
Kira is a mangling of the English word Killer.
DeathNote is not completely accurate. Agent TIM is correct. "Shi" means "death" (strangely enough, it also means "four"). That's where the term "shinigami" comes from. It translates as "bringer of Death", I believe. I chose "Kira" as a shortened form of the Japanese name "Akira" which means "fire". But I can change it if it causes confusion to anyone. sweatdrop
