Laughing softly at Terrie, Emris closed the door. But then his actions paused at what she said next. "Home sweet home?" He whispered softly before throwing up a wide grin and talked quickly. "I'll get some firewood burning in your room, Terrie." Quickly grabbing several logs from the pile next to the kitchen's fireplace, the foxtaur silently started down the hallway.

Terrie nodded happily to his whispered words, and flashed him an appreciative smile when he offered to start her fire. It wasn't until he was walking down the hall that she realized something was amiss. Did she say something wrong? He had first whispered, then spoken awfully rushed. She had to fix whatever she did!
She padded quickly after Emris, then stopped and leaned against the hall wall, watching him in defeated confusion. How could she fix it what she didn't know was wrong in the first place? Having never dealt much with others, the idea to simply ask him never even crossed her mind. She just watched from the front of the hall, a small furrow wrinkling her brow.

Lost in his thoughts the foxtaur worked on the fire. Throwing the logs into the fireplace, he started on lighting the kindling with the small kit of flint. His dagger flashed with light as he finally got a spark to catch onto the dry wood. "There..." He whispered while pushing back a stray strand of hair.

What was he getting into? "She'll never..." He started and cut himself off. 'I've done good so far on my own. And she just wants help is all...I shouldn't even think this way about things.' Pressing the thoughts over the small hope that he had received when Terrie had said home sweet home, Emris sighed heavily and held his hands over the warm fire that flickered now. "Terrie will need some more kindling from the kitchen if the fire is to keep going." He noted out loud to himself in an attempt to get back into the flow of things.

Terrie perked her ears from her own thoughts. Kindling? She went quietly to the kitchen, picking up some wood and scrap paper from next to the kettle. She gave a small nod to herself as she headed down the hall. She would figure out what she did somehow. She hadn't survived all that time alone and learned nothing!
She gave the wall a gentle tap as she entered. "I heard you down the hall. About needing kindling." She said, dropping to set the material away from the fire and moving to sit in front of it. With one hand caught in the compulsive nervous twirl of her hair, she looked back up at Emris with a warm smile and patted the floor, wanting him to sit with her. Maybe the fire would help him? "It's a nice fire." She said, feeling semi-awkward.

Nearly jumping, Emris managed a small "Oh!" as Terrie entered the room. Looking at her sheepishly he smiled. "Umm...thanks." Silently moving to where Terrie indicated he should sit, the now somewhat skittish foxtaur slowly sat. "Yeah..." He nodded at the warm fire and found himself growing silent again.

Happy that Emris was now sitting, Terrie tried to think of something to say to get him to open up. She was usually never at a loss for words! She didn't always say what she was thinking, but the absolute blankness was new to her. How could Emris make her feel so comfortable and speechless at the same time?
All the while, her fingers twirled. "Well, thanks again. For the room and the fire?" Did she just turn that into a question?! Yep... She sighed heavily and stared into the dancing flames.

Nodding at Terrie, Emris replied softly. "You're welcome, Terrie." Feeling a bit awkward the foxtaur started looking about the room. "Oh!" He stood quickly and moved to a chest that was next to the bed. "That reminds me...here's a place to keep things...." He trailed off and sighed before removing the blanket that had been in there. "And here's another blanket..." Draping it over Terrie's shoulders, Emris quietly sat back down again.

Terrie looked with a slight start when Emris jumped up. A chest for her things? She didn't have much, and what she did have was buried safely somewhere in the woods. She'd have to get that tomorrow.
Touching the blanket gently with her fingers, she somehow started relaxing again. "Thanks." She repeated, pulling the blanket closer over herself. "Are you warm enough?"

Looking from the fire and back at Terrie, Emris nodded. "Yeah...I'm warm enough." He stated with a small yawn. Crossing his arms the foxtaur could feel himself becoming sleepier with each minute. 'What a man you are.' He joked silently to himself with a grin.

Despite the reflexive yawn that comes whenever someone else nearby yawned, Terrie didn't feel very tired. They had done a lot today, but she was preoccupied with Emris and... whatever it was she had done. He did seem to be relaxing though. Maybe it wasn't a big deal? Was she making something out of nothing?
She absorbed Emris' mysterious grin with great relish. She loved seeing him smile... Her hand reached up to start playing with her hair again, but she stopped it short. 'Just go with the feeling. It seemed to have worked before...'
Without another thought to it, she slid closer to Emris and leaned herself against him. While her face aimed at the fire, her eyes peeked peripherally to Emris, hoping that he would let her stay.

True to his talent, Emris managed to keep the surprise at Terrie's actions from his face. It wasn't a bad shock, but just surprise. The warmth was definitely welcomed though and Emris was slowly starting to realize that he felt far more comfortable with Terrie than with most others. He secretly hoped that wouldn't turn into a bad thing for him.

Giving a soft chuckle the foxtaur moved as well and pulled the blanket over both of them. "Might as well share the warmth." He whispered against her ear before leaning into her as well.

Terrie gave a soft sigh. She wasn't being pushed away! "Might as well." She said with a smirk, thinking suddenly that it was more than mear warmth she wanted to share. She wasn't quite sure what that thing was, but knew she would find it out soon.
Leaning against each other, Terrie felt that she was feeling more warmth than the fire or Emris' body heat warranted. It was something deep inside her. How nice it felt... She snuggled her head onto Emris' shoulder and a tiny smile that wouldn't hide lit her face as she slipped her arm slowly around his.

Feeling Terrie sitting so close to him like this made Emris' heart silently pound in his ears. A tender smile formed on his face and the foxtaur somehow managed to look calm as he continued to stare into the fire. His tail moved over though to brush against Terrie as he pondered on whether to make conversation or not. The silence...was actually quiet nice for him with Terrie sitting next to him.

Terrie had never felt so content as she did now. She had a place to sleep that was warm and safe, and knew she would have food tomorrow. But mostly, it was having Emris there, and knowing he would still be there tomorrow.
She smiled and twitched her tail back against his. She too felt the silence. It wasn't heavy or thick. It was familiar almost, and soft. Like a protective covering over the two foxtaurs. Terrie didn't want to break it just yet, even as she relaxed more and her eyes began to blink lazily, sleep catching up.

Emris felt his eyes starting to close on him as sleep started to tug at his mind. 'Not that best time..' He thought with a silent yawn before allowing his head to rest next to Terrie's. Soon the foxtaur lost sight of the dancing flames as they blurred together and everything disappeared from his sight into the darkness of a peaceful sleep.
