Usually I can't think of something to talk about (I get this with English too, I'm shy in person), which is why before beginning, I grab a small sheet of paper or something and wrote a list of stuff to talk about so that I don't forgot what to say. Here's an example of a list I might write:
-school -book -shop
This list is pretty short, but it's enough to remind me of what I need to be reminded of.
So here's an example of what I might say one day:
January the 30th, 2006 - 7pm
(I talk about everything that happened at school that day, what I have for homework, etc.)
(I talk about the book I started reading, my opinions on it, how I find the setting, if I've read other books by the same author, etc)
(I talk about what I bought when I went to the shop that day)
Generally I try to talk as much as possible. If I'm desperate for topics, I'll talk about something stupid like how I don't want to clean my room or something. sweatdrop
If I think I've said something or I think I've mispronounced something, I repeat the sentence (if I mispronounce something I usually just repeat the word and not the whole sentence). I think it better to repeat stuff but to learn to say it right, rather than saving time but learning to say it wrong.
Do you have a microphone on your computer? If you do you might be able to say it into your computer mic and save it on your comp instead of buying a tape recorder. surprised

^^That sounds cool! I used to have on mic on my old skool computer, and I see one here, but I don't know the program that it'd use. I'll do that now I guess. Good sugestion! 4laugh Honestly, I'm kinda shy in some situations too, so I can relate. Plus, if I use the computer, my family will be able to here me speak and may distract me.

Get an email address and set it so it sends you the promotional mail in the language you're learning instead of your native tongue.

Best summer job ever surprised Well, unfortunately, not everyone has the fotrune that you do. These tips are for "at home" kind of learning. 3nodding I'm sure you can find a German penpal...go to the German General Discussion. You'll find people there. biggrin

For your email, try to see if there's an options page where you customize your account info. For google, just go to the version of that country wink Here are a few: www.google.fr - France www.google.it - Italy www.google.co.jp - Japan www.google.es - Spain www.google.de - Germany www.google.co.il - Israel And so on 3nodding
