"Aye, it is. Almost reminds me of how home'd look right now..." Fern's dark eyes reached out over the grounds to see the buildings falling into wintry shadow. The sunset, though, that color wouldn't fade for a few more minutes. Everything was peaceful and quiet, just they way she really liked it.
"Do you miss home, Gavin?" Fern asked, looking up at him. "Ever wish you could go back?"

Gavin shook his head almost immediately, and guided her over to a bench where they could watch the setting sun. " No. I like it here. No one really orders me around, or forces me to go to banquets and parties where you always have to posture and look like a prize stallion to be strutted about before other nobles daughters.." He huffed and leaned back into the wood.
" It's much better here. I hopefully will never have to go back, if only for once or twice to gather what I may need and finalize some things before striking out on my own." He turned his head towards her. " After this, I was planning to travel. You know, see the other planes and such, the world." With a gesture of familiarity, he reached up to tuck some of her black curls behind one ear with a smile. " What about you?"

A smile pulled at her lips at feeling his touch. He was gentle, kind, and knew what he wanted in life. Thinking back upon her life, Fern couldn't think of many young men who could boast such qualities.
"I... I really don't know. I thought I wanted to get into the healing arts, but I'm so hyper most of the time. I can't really think straight for too long to get anything done, really..." Qualities that didn't suit the healing arts, to be sure. "My parents wanted me to pursue something to do with teaching. But I so wanted to have something to do with helping people when they really need it. Aye, that'd be nice..."
Thinking on it, Fern wasn't so sure anyone would even want her help. A cowardly fae who runs from danger, and who can't even think clearly when buzzed on sugar was all she could think of herself for a moment or so. In the chilled air, she scooched a bit closer to Gavin, who she was quite sure was turning out to be much more than a friend.

He smiled and indulged her, slinging an arm about Ferns shoulders and scooting closer aswell. " Well, here's a solution." He grinned as she looked up at him. " After we leave school, why don't you come traveling with me until you figure out what you want to do?" He reached over and clasped her hand to squeeze it with a kind look to his elven face. " After all, we've got an eternity to figure it out, being immortal and all...what's to say you and I can figure it out together?"

"Really, Gavin?" Fae eyes grew quite large and shimmery with what he was proposing. "You'd put up with me like that? No one 'round here can stand bein' with me for more than an hour or so... And you'd let me travel with you, and see things?"
It all seemed far too good to be true. Not only was he a good friend to her, but it seemed he wanted to share a part of his life and adventures, too. They'd known each other for some time then, so she shouldn't have been so moved or surprised, but Fern was so thankful and wasn't about to take him for granted.

Gavin threw her a fake shrewd look. " Well, I think I have the wherewithal to withstand you and your insanity.." He held that look for a few moments before chuckling and breaking the facade by kissing her forehead. " Of course. I wouldn't have offered if I hadn't meant it." He smiled, ignoring the happy color in both of their sets of cheeks and turned his eyes to the horizon. The setting sun was painting the sky in a myriad of colors: gold, purple, silver, orange, pink. " It's lovely, isn't it?" He asked after they watched for awhile, turning her attention on the Fae girl at his side.

Fern broke out giggling. Little puffs of white escaped her lips and hung in the air before fading away with her laughter. He could always make her smile, it seemed.
"'Course it is. Nothing lovelier than a good sunset, especially when it's winter and ye think everything's gone cold." Fern turned to see him as well, smiling genuinely and enjoying his warmth. Silly fae, she chided. There's something much lovelier than a sunset looking right at you, with his dark eyes and strange tattoos and unruly, raven-like hair.

Gavin watched her watch him for a moment or two, before very tentatively reaching up to cup her cheek in his palm, brushing his thumb along the contours of her angular face with a small smile. " You know, you're very lovely." He smiled and flushed self consciously. " But, you don't need me to tell you that, do you?" He gently clunked his forehead against hers, their faces very close.

"You're quite wonderful yourself, Gavin," she said, very, very softly. Her heart was beating faster than the beat of her wings at a hover, but the real rush was yet to come. Fern lifted her hand up to touch where his rested upon her cheek before tilting her head so that their lips met, and suddenly the cold world melted away, and there was only Gavin.

They remained that way for awhile, until the sun had sunk below the horizon and it was starting to get chilly. Gavin tugged away from her reluctantly with a mind for air, taking big gulps of it whilst he leaned into the bench. " We like to test the capacity for immortal endurance, it seems." He smiled and curled back up next to her again, one arm around her shoulders and the other around her waist. He was just content to hold her for now, however, happy to bury his face in her hair and cuddle, careful not to hit her wings.

Fern happily obliged Gavin's cuddling, even laughing at it a bit. A strong elven noble really just wanted someone to hold. Maybe all those years at court had starved him of real affection, she thought as she let her cheek rest against the side of his head.
"Gavin... I'm happy I slammed right into your face months ago. Think of what might not have happened if I'd actually had the mind to navigate properly, eh?" As they sat, she played with his hair a bit. She could say out in the chill so long as he was there with her.
