Celebor looked at Donovan through narrowed eyes.

"Catch and release?" he questioned curiously, wondering what that was supposed to mean. He had heard the term before, but only in relation to cats and the way they played with their food before eating it.

Haradhel was surprised at that.

"Ruel? Being decent?" she repeated incredulously. "I would dearly love to know how that came about. I never thought it would be possible, and it goes against every grain within me to say that."

She had of course been trained to serve the royal family, and to say something amiss about any of them had been strictly forbidden.

Arwen smiled. "Well," she replied, "I have dolls or books or we could play outside or ...."

And she went off on a long list of her favourite games to play.

Aliya giggled at Haradhel. She had never met Ruel, but she understood the woman's attitude. She had heard stories.

"Still, it's wonderful that Kaito is learning so much from his brother," she said warmly, turning to Kara. "I would like it if you could encourage them to come for a visit, they haven't been here since I was a baby, apparently. I would like to meet them - properly."

Not to mention, they wouldn't have seen Adonai at all yet.

In the darkness, Adan squeezed past Donovan and Celebor as he and Lin headed up the stairs, then ran for Aragost's door, directly across from Elros's. Without knocking, he let himself in and disappeared from view.

Kara laughed softly, she knew what Haradhel meant by that. It did seem impossible and yet it was done, "I only know this," she winked as if plotting with the other two mothers, "According to Lin, Celebor has something to do with it."

She laughed again before turning to Aliya.

"Yes, it would be good for all of them and Serenity has grown too, so I'm sure Ulani and Ulrich would like to see that. Nevermind the fact that Storm and Starr and Idhril aren't small like Lin was too, and they haven't met Slivrendir as well."

It was a lot, though Miyu didn't know many if any of the games that Arwen was talking about, "Maybe.. play something outside?"

Though she didn't know what.

Donovan paused for a moment before speaking in low tones, "You might or might not recall that when you first grew, the slavers we were going after was a large amount. They had actually raided a village, the children returned from the hunt, some of them probably didn't have parents to go back to. The slavers had become too bold despite the hunts, so in that year and afterwards sometimes we do what has been nicknamed catch and release. Depending on the amount of slavers and how close they could be to get help for themselves, one is left alive, tortured and then let go as an example to future slavers. If it is a larger group of slavers more are left alive, though truth be told as far as I know there hasn't been any group as large as that one time."

It was in ways the worse part of it, more so than simply just killing the slavers. He wished it didn't really have to be done, it was nasty business and left a horrible taste in one's mouth, but they forgot. Forgot that if you were going to mess with someone's children you had to pay the price.

Lin could fit between her father and Celebor without being notice she wasn't as big as Adan was. Though she couldn't imagine not knocking the door, it seemed not right. Like entering a house you weren't supposed to be in, so she turned to Elros' door and knocked.

Celebor nodded, though his eyes grew slightly darker.

"I understand," he murmured. "I have to admit, I hadn't thought about that aspect before ... I'm not sure I would be able to do that part. Maybe it's best if I just stay with the children then, and leave that bit to you and Celeborn."

Haradhel was amazed. She hadn't thought that anything would be able to change Ruel, and she remembered Celebor as an awkward and excitable teen with a child's spirit. Not his fault, she had been informed, but that was how she remembered him.

Aliya laughed. "The family seems to be growing quite quickly," she grinned at Kara. "You must be proud. I don't think I've ever heard of a family as large as yours in only three generations. You really should tell them to come here again, and ask Cindy and Feng and Ryu to come back. It's been a while since we've seen any of them, and Feng I know would love to see how much the kids have grown."

She giggled. "And Adanedhel's been asking for them again."

Elros's door opened nearly right away, and the tall fighter appeared in the doorway, his face as expressionless as usual. But when he saw Lin, he smiled and knelt to one knee to get closer to her height.

"Hello again, Lin," he said warmly. "How are you today?"

"Feng would love it I'm sure," Kara smiled, "She loves playing with children so.... and Ryu would like to come back. Hmm.... just imagine a lot of people around here, well a lot of people are normal," she giggled, "But having everyone visit will be a sight to see."

And they could do it without putting anyone out which was wonderful

Donovan nodded, "It's going to be a tough first Hunt, all firsts suck, but you've been through a few yourself so you'd know that already."

Though he himself was not sure about bringing someone new into this, he knew it was going to have to be done. It would be no different than the kind of education he had growing up.

"Hello Elros," Lin smiled, "I'm doing good. Daddy is here, but I think he already went to talk to Celeborn, because I passed him and Celebor in the hallway. And Mommy is here too, so is Miyu."

Celebor nodded grimly. "If there is no first, there is no second," he replied, repeating the words of Earendil during his time in the Southland. "After all, that is what life and education are all about. Gaining new experiences so that they become experience."

He clenched one fist. "These people have to be stopped, and I have to do what I can to help stop them."

"The more the merrier," Haradhel laughed. "And if for some reason we did run out of room, like if there was a particularly large group of children rescued, Aliya and Amdir have extra beds in their house, and there's the barracks, which still have lots of room."

Aliya smiled softly at Kara. "It's true," she agreed. "As of yet, Alyse and Adwin still share a room, though I think we're going to have to separate them in a year or two, and we have ..."

She paused to count in her head.

"Oh, at least five empty rooms, half of them with double sized beds."

Elros's smile widened slightly. "That's nice to hear," he murmured. "And how have your lessons been going?"

Meaning all of them.

"And we'll have to catch you up a bit on your language lessons while you're here, too," he commented opening the door wider and straightening to let her into his quarters. "Come in."

Kara giggled at that, "That would be fine, I'm sure. I must plot with Elnara about it then. She would love it..."

And really Kara thought it would be good for her to talk to other mothers as well. It was nice to be able to talk to Aliya and Haradhel like this.

Donovan smirked, yes he was sure Celebor would do just fine. He was a good kid and was determined. Not to mention it helped that he had good teachers as well.

"Now that, that's settled, is there anything else you'd like to know after we meet with Ulani?"

He better not forget, now that he thought about it, though he didn't know when they continued their route back to the house.

Lin slipped into his room before turning to face him once more, "They have been going okay. More language lessons, and math lessons... and a bit of history.... and fighting lessons and just about any question I could come up with...."
