Youkochylde Dear Diary, Quote: Well, we seem to have our first bout of sickness with the twins. Lucky me, it just HAPPENED to occur when they're here. I feel so sorry for them both, Kendall's whiny and stuffed up, and keeps complaining that he can't 'breave fru by doze'. Raven seems to be a bit better, but she's got a cough that's making her miserable because she can't sleep for very long without waking up. So needless to say, I've got two VERY cranky furbabies here this weekend. Right now, I've got them both bundled up on the couch with some DVD's playing and books for them to read. Kendall's at one end, wrapped up around my cait, Neo, while Raven is passed out on the other end and using Foxglove as a blanket. Karma didn't seem to mind the cait being here this weekend, and she was more than happy to stay. I'm really glad she did. Raven seems VERY attached to her. Hopefully they'll be better by tomorrow, or I may just call Karma and offer to keep them here. She's got enough stress to worry about without having two sick kids as well.

Youkochylde Dear Diary, Quote: Well, the twins seem to be getting over the worst of it now. They've both been on Robitussin and resting. Well, as much as they'll rest anyway. Getting them on the couch to NOT bicker for a bit is about the extent of it. Kendall had it the worst the other day, he just didn't want to get out of bed. I let him stay in there with some of his books, and some of the pets that wanted to be with him. Raven came out into the living room and played with her blocks on the living room floor while wrapped up in a blanket. I'm faced with the realization that I HAVE to think about Yule this year. I never really concerned myself with it, and hope that I can do okay with it. I don't celebrate Christmas... but Yule is as close to it as I can figure, and the kids should be alright with that. After all, they can go over to Karma's for Christmas then, and get TWO days of opening presents. Somehow, I doubt they'll mind. I'll worry about that shortly though... for now, Thanksgiving is the main chore we have to figure out. I want to invite Karma and Dave over, if they don't already have plans. Envy will be here, and I was going to see if Trio was willing to come as well. Time to start plotting dinner!

Youkochylde Dear Diary, Quote: The twins are doing MUCH better today! Raven still has a bit of a cough, but not enough to be concerned about. Cough syrup is doing the trick, and Kendall is back to his normal rambunctious self. Took them both grocery shopping with me yesterday, and got supplies in for the next week, as well as starting to get Thanksgiving preparations. We were about halfway home when I figured out I had an interesting problem on my hands... how to fit a 21 lb bird into a 3/4 full freezer. The twins didn't care one way or another... I'd bought a bag of grapes to keep them occupied in the store, and they were busily munching on them the entire way home and took the bag with them to head into the livingroom after we got home. Memo to me... check where I step when I go in there. Grapes invariably find their way underfoot... and under the couch. So I've got the turkey. I need to pick up a bag of potatoes (The last one suffered a rather interesting fate when Kendall broke into the bag and ate one bite out of nearly every one. At least we had plenty of mashed potatoes that week.), makings for pumpkin pie (Raven's still wondering how to smoosh a big round pumpkin into a pie tin. I think she's going to be disappointed when she sees the can of pumpkin), cranberries for the sauce, and makings for a salad. At least both of them seem to like vegetables alright. Both of them love salad, so long as they each have their favourite dressing. This favourite changes once a week, mind you, so I seem to have just about every flavour known to man in my fridge. That seems like a good list. I'm not going to get the rest of the supplies until next weekend, most likely. No point in having stuff just sitting around.

Dear Diary,
Quote: I can't believe it. I was just wondering how we were going to swing Thanksgiving this year with me needing to make a rush trip to the airport and Dave working. Youko and I are getting better about this whole 'parental empathy' thing. As it stands now, he's going to be taking the twins for dinner at his place while I tough out my current situation. He offered to save Dave and I some leftovers, but I told him not to worry about it. As long as he takes a few pictures for posterity, I'll be fine. Somehow the image of Raven with her little fingers all stuffed into black olives and Kendall shampooing in pumpkin pie doesn't seem like something I ought to be missing out on. Anyway, godspeed, Youko. You're a far braver man than I

Youkochylde Dear Diary, Quote: Well, I've spoken with Karma, and I'm happy to say that I will be getting the kids this Thanksgiving! This is a very good thing... if I lost any more people for dinner, I'd be eating turkey until Easter. Okay, so I tend to go a bit overboard... but the twins like it well enough. Kendall keeps staring at the freezer warily, like he's expecting some giant mostrosity of a bird to come flying out every time I go to get him ice cream. Raven has pretty well forgotten about it in favour of the Cool Whip and pie shells she saw me buying at the store. Every day, she asks me at least once when we'll be making the pies. A girl after my own heart. Both of them are excited about the holidays, however, especially when they saw Envy hauling out the Yule decorations. It's tradition in my family to set them up the day after Thanksgiving, since most people have off work that Friday anyway. Needless to say, we've had to pick them both out of the tinsel and lights at least four times each. Raven tried to make off with the mantle village and set it up in her room... Kendall had glass ornaments hung all over his bunk and the ceiling above it... and one of them (neither is owning up to this one) managed to break open a pack of tinsel icicles all over the hallway. We're still vacuuming up the stuff.

Youkochylde Dear Diary, Quote: Pictures... check. Video camera footage... check. Exhausted parents... check. >_< Thanksgiving is FINALLY over, and all the company is the hell out of my house. The twins were good to start with... until Raven found the can of black olives. I swear, Karma put her up to this. Next thing I know, there's a lil gray foxcoon running around the house with ten olives on her fingers, making her brother scream by making him believe they're mutant olives from Mars and are eating her fingers. She kept telling him that there was nothing but bone left underneath, and every time she threatened to take one off, he'd start screaming. Kendall managed to get into his own trouble, however. Just not as dramatically as his sister. He seems to be the one for the 'quiet mischief', instead of the attention getting kind. This time, it was the butter. I had pulled out a couple of sticks to soften for the biscuits, mashed potatoes and to put in the stuffing while it was cooking. Actually, I had asked ENVY to get them for me, therefore I was unaware that there was a stick missing. Until I started noticing the yellow drawings on the plate glass window and balcony doors. Apparently he thought it was some neat kind of square sidewalk chalk and went to town once he figured out that it drew better on glass than on carpet. It also drew better on the coffee table, the television, entertainment center, bookshelf, bedroom door and Envy's drawing table. By the time I found it, the 'chalk' had vanished to an inch-long nub and I started to realize that cleanup would take a hell of a lot longer than I thought. So while dinner was cooking, I started scrubbing. I'm just glad Envy stopped laughing long enough to help. Dinner itself went off without a hitch really... as much as it can with two toddlers. Of course they made a mess, and got food everywhere, and wound up WEARING more than eating... but I was expecting that. The last picture I got was after dishes were done... Envy had taken the twins into the living room to watch a movie, and by the time I went out, all three of them were passed out in a heap on the couch. Envy on the bottom, Raven draped over his chest and Kendall half hanging off the couch upside-down. That picture will make lovely blackmail for years to come. Now, however, we get to start for Yule... and the twins have already discovered the decorations. I'd write more, but I have to go rescue the tinsel from their bedroom.

Youkochylde Dear Diary, Quote: It looks as though Karma will have the twins for Yule this year. I've recently been made aware of the fact that I'm going ot be leaving that weekend and wont' be able to take both little darlings with me. Instead, I'm going to make sure that the twins get to open presents at my place before taking them over to Karma's. Lucky guys, they get TWO holidays, technically. *Chuckle* Now, the ultimate question... should I give them the noisy toys BEFORE sending them to Karma's so that they can take them all over there and drive her nuts? twisted I think so.

Youkochylde Dear Diary, Quote: Christmas is a wonderful time, really. Everyone's happy and joyous and wishing every one else a good season. Then again, from listening to the shrieking of my two 'darling' children, sometimes it's easy to forget. I should have just gotten them communal toys, I swear. Raven has stolen Kendall's Transformers more times than I can count, Kendall wants NONE of it and keeps threatening to blow her back to Cybertron with his death ray, and both of them are wondering why I've hauled out the old crib and such that they used to sleep in. I've set it up in my room... there's going to be a new addition to the family soon, and I haven't broken the news to them yet. I just HOPE they'll be okay with it. For now, things are back to the normal status quo. There are plenty of leftovers to make sandwiches from, and even more to go as side dishes for days. I swear, I could just reheat mashed potatoes from now til Doomsday and they'd both be happy. The tree survived without incident, as did most of the decorations. The only casualty so far is the garland that was around the door. That was an accident more than anything, however. Kendall was running over to see the snow fall on the balcony and slid on a book that Raven had left laying there. He went flying, grabbed the garland and I was treated to the sight of one foxboi wrapped up in garland and lights like a furry tree. Ah well... could be a whole lot worse. *Chuckle*

Youkochylde Dear Diary, Quote: The last of the Yule decorations are put away for another year. All too soon, I know that Valentine's Day will be approaching. I've started stocking up, getting some pink and red construction paper and letting the kids make hearts while they're here. We've got some with handprints, some with 'artwork' on them, others with foil star stickers or flat-sided jewels. I've pretty well raided my crafts box for this, and both of them seem to love it. I'm going to be decorating the windows and doors with the hearts, and am having them make more than is necessary so that Karma can have some too. I've got plans for Valentine's Day, as I'm sure most do. Karma is likly going out with Dave, and I'm taking Envy to dinner. However, I'm hoping that on the 13th of February, Sunday, Karma and I might be able to go out for a bit. I know it's likely not 'proper', considering that we're both in relationships, but she IS the mother of my children and I appreciate all she does. This will be my way of letting her know that. Now if I can just get Raven and Kendall to keep quiet about my plans until then...

Youkochylde Youko sat cross-legged on the couch, Raven in his lap with her legs dangled over the side, kicking idly as she watched the TV and let her hair be tugged here and there. Somehow, the fox had gotten the idea that she would look good in pigtails... and he was likely right. If he could stop her from shaking her head every time he got her hair bunched up. "Stop that," he whispered, catching hte strands and putting them up again. The mismatched eyes flicked up towards him as the girl snarled faintly and let her ears fall back. Narrowing his eyes in return, Youko shot the glare right back at her. "Dont' you lay your ears at me, young lady. If you'd sit still for five minutes, we'd be done." Kendall, meanwhile, was looking highly amused at all of this, munching on popcorn where he sat on the floor. Suddenly, he was VERY glad that he wasn't a girl and didn't have to deal with this. "BOWS!" he yelled, knowing full well that his sister hated the 'frilly things'. "NO BOWS!" She shot back, yelling loud enough to drown out her brother, and was rewarded with a tweak on her ear that made her yip in surprise. "Settle," Youko said simply, glancing to Kendall afterward. "You too. You have to look nice today, we're getting pictures taken of the both of you." Sighing, Kendall flopped over onto his back and stared at the ceiling, dreading having to get into the outfit that Youko had picked out. "Dun wanna." "Tough," came the reply from his father, Youko finally getting the other half of Raven's hair up and tied. There were no bows, just double-ended clear purple balls that let the fox get the ends squared away easily. She looked adorable, he thought, and the purple dress he'd bought for her would work wonderfully with the fox. Kendall, on the other hand, was going to be in a dark green suit that Envy had picked out. Between the two of them, they'd make a very lovely picture. IF they survived it. "Okay you two, time to get ready to go!" Youko spoke with enthusiasm, but it obviously wasn't shared by the twins. Muttering to themselves, they shuffled off after their father, plotting revenge for this little excursion.

"MINE!!"
Karma felt her eye twitch and the pen jotted a bit on the paper in mid-stroke, turning her "L" into something that looked like a confused and backward question mark. Doing her taxes with this storm underroof was going to prove difficult, if not impossible as she turned away from the desk to regard the direction the exclamation had come from.
It was almost immediately followed by an ear-piercing squeal and the sound of an open palm meeting flesh. They were fighting again. Lovely. There was a yell of outrage, probably Kendall's, and then more slapping sounds. Getting up, the foxcoon hurried into the other room to break things up. Sure enough, the twins were tangled around each other on the floor, slapping, biting, and kicking each other amid growls and screaming.
"All right, stop. STOPPIT!!" Karma growled, reaching out and seizing either of them by one shoulder and prying them apart with some difficulty. As soon as they'd been separated, Raven immediately poked her tongue out, blowing a very loud and wet raspberry at her brother who lunged at her again, swinging angrily at the air as he tried to hit her. "QUIT!!" the foxcoon growled, giving them both a single jarring shake to bring their attention off of each other and to her.
She loved how they could go from spiteful screeching imps to clueless worried cherubs in the blink of an eye...she really did. It made playing disciplinarian so very much fun when those looks they were giving her made her feel like she'd just burned down the county orphanage.
"All right..." she sighed, letting go of them both and lowering herself to her knees to be more on their level. "What's going on...?"
"HE started it!" Raven declared immediately, thrusting a finger at Kendall accusingly, the look of lamb-like innocence disappearing as quickly as it had surfaced. "He said all the video games are his!"
"Nuh UH!" Kendall shot back. "Only cuz you said you were boss of the TV!"
"I don't wanna watch your crappy shows!"
"My shows aren't crap! Yours are poop!"
"Enough." Karma interjected, slapping her own forehead. "Just....enough. Both of you. I'm going to unplug the TV in a minute here and there won't be any video games or TV shows for -anybody- if you don't cut it out."
Two pairs of red and gold eyes widened in childish horror. The TV?? Not the TV! Not their only reason for living and breathing! How could any mother be so cruel??
"If anybody's boss of the TV and video games, its Daddy Dave and I since we paid for them, capisce?" she asked, looking from one child to the other.
"Yeah, KEN DOLL." Raven said with the dripping snideness only little girls were capable of in her brother's direction. Karma sighed and caught her son a moment before he could lunge at his sister again.
"Mo-om! She's calling me names!" he wailed, squirming in his mother's grasp in a vain attempt to get at his ringtailed aggressor as Raven, seeming quite pleased with herself, danced in a little circle singing at the top of her lungs.
"I'M A KEN DOLLLLLL I'M NO FUN AT ALLLLL YA KNOW I'LL FAIL YA, GOT NO GENITA--"
"QUIET!!!" Karma demanded, giving her daughter a withering look that silenced her on the spot and simultaneously made Kendall stop squirming in her lap. "Now look, this is RIDICULOUS!! You two fight about -everything-! You get new toys, you fight over them. We go out to dinner, you fight over who has more crayons for their menu. I take you to the movies, you fight over who gets to hold the popcorn. You two would fight over a cat turd if you were given the chance!"
The twins immediately burst into giggles at the last statement, making Karma sigh and collect herself again. Screaming at them, no matter how gratifying, wasn't going to make them stop....she knew. She and Youko both had tried it.
"You know, you two are going to be starting school soon and you can't get away with fighting like that with the other kids. You'll get in trouble."
"Then we shouldn't go to school!" Raven piped up immediately.
"Nice try. More like you shouldn't fly off the handle all the time and learn a little patience, kiddo." her mother replied, grunting as she hefted herself back to her feet.
"Not all the time, just when she's being a coonass!" Where Raven had "Ken Doll" as her trump card for getting the better of her brother in the way of insults, Kendall likewise had "coonass" for his sister. Despite their best efforts not to swear in front of the children, Karma and Youko both suffered the occasional slipup....and Karma had made the mistake of calling Meka by his longstanding nickname in Kendall's presense once.
Since then, the little foxboy had made the name a permanent part of his arsenal after discovering it got a reaction out of Raven. And, true to tradition, Raven immediately gave an ear-splitting warcry and ran forward with murder in her eyes at her brother, one tiny fist clenched and in the air.
As the two of them began to tussle on the floor again, Karma felt her teeth clench. This was driving her insane and they'd only been visiting for a couple of days. In fact, the reason they'd been dropped off in the first place had been because Youko and Envy had had their fill of the two of them and their fighting.
Nothing worked, Youko had warned her. Not rewards, not punishments, not screaming, not reasoning...
And something somewhere had to give soon, before Karma, Youko, Envy, and David all collectively ended up in a nuthatch somewhere. After breaking them up a second time and marching Kendall to the twins' bedroom after sitting Raven in the corner, Karma used the newly-bought silence to make a phone call to Youko.
Maybe it was time they tried something drastic. At least for a little while.
