Ian stared at Emerwyn for a few moments. her arms were longer, she had hooves. Her face was beginning to look more like the deer she was becoming. "Emerwyn." he licked his lips and smiled. He could smell her, and he knew she was a deer. Emerwyn, you are. . .beautiful."

That was the deer inside him speaking, but even to his human half, she had an exotic beauty. His tail twitched behind him through the hole he had cut in his jeans for it. "You wanted to see me?" His green eyes were warm and he let down his guard now that he was seeing her again.

Emerwyn's face flushed a little at his words. She had not known what to think when she first gazed upon her visage.

Her voice cracked from disuse when she finally spoke. "I did. Come in."
She stood back from the door to allow him entry.
Still, for some reason, she resisted the urge to touch him.

"I've missed you."

Ian entered the room and stood looking at Emerwyn. His eyes were like mirrors of his feelings, and in them was pain and sadness, but aside from those was love. Ian hurt from trying to avoid her so she could be happy, and the sadness had the same origin. But that was all he wanted, for Emerwyn to be happy.

"I've missed you as well." He put his hands behind his back and waited, wondering what was going to happen next. He wasn't going to touch her, he didn't want to hurt her and feared that even him being there was causing her pain.

Emerwyn's eyes met Ian's, and she read them, a new smile forming on her face.
She walked close to him, and rested her hand on his face, his soft chin cupped in her palm.

"I am glad you are here."
Her hand lowered. "And I am sorry that I hid from you all this time... I wasn't sure if you would come."

She turned slowly, and made her way to the bed to sit. She looked at him welcomingly.

Ian was almost confused. She hid from him? He had thought that he was hiding from her. "But I was hiding from you as well." No, wait, that wasn't true. Ian had been hiding from how he felt. After having admitted it a few times to her, he had fled like a coward each time. Loving someone was scary, especially for someone like him. He had fled from these things all his life. he had avoided girls because he had been scared of falling in love.

And here this woman had trapped his heart as surely as Moreau had trapped him on the island. And Ian did not know how to deal with it.

He moved and sat down next to Emerwyn looking down at his hands in his lap. "I. . .uh." He didn't know quite how to say what he wanted to. He didn't even know what he really wanted to say.

"I wish I wasn't such a coward," he muttered without looking up, talking more to himself than to Emerwyn, but somewhere in the back of his mind he knew she could hear.

Emerwyn laughed lightly. Then again, everything she said came out light and airy. Her voice had changed.
"What irony," she said, watching him as he sat down beside her.

Her smile faded. She put her arms around one of his. "You are no coward. What you have faced and been through is something few men can boast." She sighed. Her words felt empty.

Then she leaned in close, without thinking, and whispered, "You are the King."

Ian shook his head. "I am no one special. But you m'dear-" then he stopped realizing the pun then started again so quickly that he hoped Emerwyn didn't notice his hesitation. "-are a very couragous woman." Maybe she could even laugh at his pun. That could be good.

He felt her arms around his and looked at her with a gentle smile on his lips, but frowned when she whispered. The king? He was no king, and he told her as such too, moving his free arm to touch her shoulder softly.

Emerwyn did smile at the pun, and her crystal laugh echoed once again.
She angled her head down a little at his words. She wasn't sure whether she believed him or not.

Emerwyn's head turned back and forth slowly as Ian denounced his title.
"But, I feel that you are. And you will find your peace and happiness, for that is what the King is seeking."

Now she took his arm and placed it over her shoulders, cuddling in next to him.

My peace and happiness are with you, He thought but did not voice that aloud. Instead, when she moved his arm and cuddled next to him, he tightened his arm ever so slightly. "What King? I don't understand." And he did want to understand.

He inhaled deeply of Emerwyn's scent and smiled over at her using his hand to play with her hair. This is peaceful, sitting here with her. She has a nice sounding laugh. Ian made sure that he did not say any of his thoughts aloud. Thoughts like that scared him, he didn't even want to admit them to himself.

Emerwyn made herself quite comfortable in Ian's embrace. Her blood ran so warm with him right there beside her.

"I had a dream," she began. It was odd; she had never spoken of her dreams on the Island to anyone. And yet, these dream were so real to her, as real as Ian was sitting beside her.
Yet, she told him of her dream. All the way to the end, which was in fact not the end. He did have a right to know about it after all.
She spoke of each of the characters by their names, careful not to directly associate them with the people they already so obviously represented.

She would pause at times in the telling, and sigh, or wait for him to stop her. And she found that as Ellenwy cried, Emerwyn shed a solitary tear.

But Ian listened to the story and did not stop her. Even he knew who the people were - though he might not have had Emerwyn not referred to him as the King.

When she finished the tale Ian was holding her close to him, as though he were afraid to lose her if he let go. 'I'll never let you go,' and he didn't realize that he spoke it aloud. He kissed the top of her head gently and kept holding her. Oh how he loved her.

I'm still searching for my White Stag...

She returned his close embrace, taking in everything about him.
The warmth of his body, the smell that kept her enchanted in a spell, the sound of his voice as he promised himself to her.

"Stay here tonight," it was a soft request, almost lost in her breath.

Ian nodded against her hair then tilted her head up and kissed her, pulling away to answer her question. "I will." his voice was just as soft as hers had been. And he tilted his head to kiss her again, looking into her eyes warmly. She smelled so nice, and was so warm.

The folds of her cloak fell softly back over her shoulders.

This kiss was her first one. That one her second. She had become a new person - yes, a person. Some kind of transformation had overtaken her the other night. A transformation that was stronger than the one that held her physical body captive.
It was a realization, an acceptance of all that was.

Her back lost all tension, now only having just enough strength to barely support her frame.
Here was happiness.

Ian pulled away from Emerwyn and stifled a yawn. "Do you want dinner m'dear?" he thought it would be quite romantic to spend a quiet dinner with Emerwyn, then they could go to sleep. It would be like an old fashioned date.

Ian hoped that Emerwyn would say yes, after all, this was a rather sudden request and meeting of theirs. He still had his arms around her as he looked into her eyes intently, breathing in her scent.
