Liam followed Hazel, glad of their mutual solitude and the hushing of the hubub of the gathering. It was good to get out in the clearer air. He watched the ground, just as she did, but he didn't know at all what to look for, other than rustling. Circling behind her, he waited for her cue to dive.

Tousled couldn't hold back an excited laugh. Her ruffled feathers were almost as sleeked back as they could go and she could feel herself tremble slightly, but the nervousness only made her excitement greater.

"Okay!" she eyed the gatherer's table as if it was a mus nest, thoroughly enjoying the exhilaration that swept through her. "Let's do it!"

"Ah, Medlar, then!" Em gave the male a chuckle. "Your name makes you sound like you're in the crafting area. Are you?" She peered at him curiously, hoping this was not the case.

Cedar gave a little grunt of greeting, looking incedibly uncomfortable. He blinked at Em. "A name means nothing, Em," The hunter said, not realizing that she was simply using a conversation starter.

The crafter rolled her eyes and shrugged towards Medlar, her body language coming off as, 'Excuse him, pleaaase'.

Hazel waited a moment more, keeping Liam carefully in her field of vision. If he saw something she wanted to be right behind him in the strike. Then, out of the corner of her eye...a twitching from down below. Silently she nudged Liam, leaning close.

"There...see it?" She whispered. Not a chipmunk, far from it. A rather tasty looking...was that a rabbit?! What was it doing above ground so late? Well, she wasn't one to complain. She readied herself, looking to her friend for the cue. Small as she was, she couldn't possibly take it on her own.

Liam took a good look at the creature. It was too small to be a Lepus, thankfully, because he was getting quite hungry. He looked at Hazel quickly, and said as quietly as he could "Time to see if I still remember how to do this!" The feeling was coming back quickly, and he lined himself up with her so they could both strike it. Angling his wings, he nodded at Hazel and went in for the kill.

Hazel gave a reassuring look to Liam and leapt after him. There would be time for congratulations later, given they were successful. A rabbit was a rare treat...some thing special to find these days. Moments later she fluttered off the rabbit to give Liam more room, talons neatly stained.

"The luck of the Longest Night, eh?" She preened herself, proud to have helped in the undertaking.

Birch shook his leg as if to test if the jingling was satisfying. He lifted off and picked up some speed with a couple of powerful wingbeats. At first he appeared to fly away from the crowd and the gatherers, but then he weaved back, trying his best not to bump into anyone or anything on the way.

The jingling bard appeared to perform some kind of odd dance, but no one watching him would think he was a very good dancer. The very thought of a big wildtype male dancing gracefully was a bit silly really.

"Bard coming through!" he yelled as he got closer to the feasting Sentinels and flapped as if he was panicking, "I'm not sure I can stoooop!"

Sensible Sentinels tried to get away after one glance at the fast approaching bard, and the branches around this party of gatherers cleared considerably in the short moments before Birch landed.

As crash landings go it was rather unimpressive. A Parus shrieked and fled as he thumbled down but he had landed firmly on both feet. He had only bumped into two other Sentinels, nothing broke, he wasn’t hurt and the piles and sacks of food barely moved.

“What do you think you are doing young man?” a voice shrieked somewhere in chest height, “You should show more respect for your elders!”. He looked down to see a furious looking female. Small as she was she continued to give Birch the lecture of his lifetime. Birch’s eyes watered and his ear tufts flattened from the verbal assault but he could only shuffle his feet and apologise.

"Mmhm," Liam mumbled, shredding a piece of meat in his beak. "I'd say so! I can't remember the last time I tasted rabbit! Good job at sighting it, Hazel!" He, too, was proud that they'd been able to drop the rabbit. Prey this large was almost exclusively the Hunters' domain.

Hazel daintily pecked at the rabbit, somehow staying clean while eating.

"You think Thorn or Roth would want any? Not that Roth eats rabbit though..." She shrugged and swallowed a bit more down. Deeelish! Focused on the food, she nipped Liam's beak in getting one bite, pulling back and blushing furiously right away. "Ack, I'm sorry!"

Liam watched Hazel eat. How on earth did she stay clean? He gave up, decideding to preen later. "I'm sure Thorn would like to taste some, but do you think we can or should take it back?" He then realized that his beak had been nipped, and that Hazel was looking embarrassed. "Oh, no, don't worry about it! It's just a beak. Nothing hurt."

Hazel sighed with relief. She wasn't sure why she'd been so upset over nipping Liam, but he seemed fine, and said he was fine, so no worries, right? She bobbed sheepishly and returned to the feast. A little more and she looked over the carcass.

"I suppose we could...And why shouldn't we? We can give Thorn some, and offer the rest to the other folk about." She nudged at the dead creature. "Still a god bit of meat on it though...a bit too heavy, I think." With a smile she went back to eating, as if she thought she could dine long enough to make it light enough to carry on her own.

"It would certainly take the toll off of some of the Gatherers who are there! I saw one on the way out, and I think he was completely out of meat!" He attempted to pick it up, but dropped it right back down. "You're right. Definitely too heavy." He smiled back. "We should make sure it's streamlined and maneuverable before we take it back."

Hazel nodded, still face-first in the meat. A trim here, a nibble there, it'd be easy as pie to get it back. Well, a meaty pie with floppy ears. She hiccuped a few times, lurching away.

"Full up." She hiccuped again, covering her face with a wing. "'Scuse me! Looks like I ate a little too much!"

White wings flapped furiously as a small sentinel weaved her way between trees, flying towards the warm light emitted from the large gathering in front of her. Oh, just a few yards away! An extra boost of energy fueled by the excitement of what is to come allowed her wings to move faster still, and it wasn't long until she found an empty branch to perch atop of, nestled in the hustle and bustle of The Longest Night participants. The mist immediately began preening, making sure her feathers were smoothed down and presentable, her wings clean and free of dirt [because by jove, is it hard to keep white feathers speck-free], and her one piece of ornamentation still hanging loosely around her neck. Aah, much better.

Focusing on what's around her now, she noticed with a tinge of disappointment that she missed the Brigadier's story. Oh well, she mused, this just means that I'm in time for the actual festivities! With a new flare of excitement, Snowdrift leaps off the branch and lowers herself to The Ground, making sure not to hit past anybody on her way. Surely there are still some delicious treats leftover, and maybe a friendly face to chat with!

Liam ripped off a large chunk of the rabbit and swallowed it down. Instead of one of the dainty hiccups that were emanating from Hazel, he let out a massive belch! Horrified, he fluffed his feathers and ducked his face under a wing. "Excuse me!" he said nervously, trying to laugh it out. "Sounds to me like I'm full, too." He stood to full height, smoothed himself down, and gripped the rabbit's ears and neck. "Shall we be off?"
