"We pretended there were gnomes," Miyuki said a matter of factly.
Which unknown to her was probably just as well, for who knew how many more arguments would have broken out if some unluckly people had to play gnomes?
"Arya was Queen Aerin, Yacob was Aurin, Eluin was Elros and...." she couldn't remember who played King Caranthir at the moment, "I don't think anyone pretended to be Aethos-sola."
In the end no one did, she didn't quite understand why only that the other children thought he was scary.

Earendil smiled faintly, thinking, Poor Aethos if he ever knew.
Aloud, he asked, "And who did you get to be? Someone strong and courageous?"
He shifted Miyuki so that he was holding her with one hand, and with his other hand he reached for Lin's.

Lin took Earendil's hand curious as to what Miyuki's part in that little game was.
"I got to be a soldier and scout around," Miyuki told him plainly.
Obviously she didn't care about who she got to be.

"That's a good job," Earendil said proudly. "Most people don't agree, but the soldiers, the ones who go out and scout, are the real heroes of a war. Without them, the best captain couldn't do anything." He kissed Miyuki on the side of her head. "I'm proud of you."
He squeezed Lin's hand gently and grinned at her.

Miyuki's ears twitched and she smiled widely up at her ada. She was happy he was happy, she thought it was fun because she got to go up on high places.
"I got to be up high, and... and... ada...." she blinked wondering something that had been bugging her for a while, "Why do people find Aethos-sola scary?"

Earendil looked thoughtful, though he had to admit that the question didn't really surprise him.
"Well," he murmured, "you know how Aethos-sola doesn't really know how to have fun or enjoy himself, right? Well ... most people don't understand that. Even we don't really understand that. And people fear what they can't understand, especially if it's very different from what they know. And before Queen Aerin was here, Aethos-sola had to obey his father, and his father was not a nice man, and sometimes Aethos-sola had to do things that were ... not very nice. And so many people feared him for that as well."

Miyuki had to admit... she didn't really get that. Well she got the last part, but she didn't understand how someone who didn't know how to have fun was scary.
"Oh... but he's not doing not very nice things anymore!"
Even if he was a bit weird and asked silly questions all the time.

Earendil chuckled softly at that observation. "No, that's very true," he agreed, "he's not doing anything mean anymore at all. So maybe in the future, once people realize that, they won't be afraid of him anymore. Right?"
He squeezed her gently as they continued on their way back to the castle.

Soon enough they were all back in time for dinner, despite the fact Miyuki was tired from playing all day she was also hungry. So she was eager once they got to the dining room and seemed to have perked up a bit.

They weren't the only ones there for dinner: Kaito had come up to the castle during the day and had already spent a good part of the day in the archives that Shiro had copied out on their last journey there.
"Yo!" he grinned at the others as they entered the dining room. "Good day?"

Miyuki blinked upon seeing Kaito there before trying to wiggle out of her ada's arms so she could greet Kaito.
"Kaito!"
"It's been a very good day," Lin chuckled, "How was your day?"

Earendil chuckled and set Miyuki on the floor so that she could go see Kaito.
Kaito flicked the tip of his tail. "Somewhat boring, to be honest," he admitted. "I didn't think you'd all be gone, that was why I came up here today ... turned out there was no one to talk to, really, so I just went up to the archives. What sort of adventures did you get yourself into?"

"I played!" Miyuki announced to Kaito.
This was a great thing for her, because she had never played with children she never met before and it was a lot of fun.
"Listened to the history of the rocs," Lin murmured quite pleased with the day.
And of course Earendil worked.

"Sounds like both of you got to do what you like best," Kaito quipped. He looked at Miyuki. "Seems like you did all right without your ada for a day, eh?" he grinned. "Good for you."
"Kaito," Earendil frowned, leaning over and flicking at the neko's ear. Kaito's ear flicked, and Earendil missed, but the neko just grinned.

Miyuki blinked up at Kaito, looked at her ada and then looked at Kaito. Her mind was trying to process this, she had spent a day away from her ada. She went to hug her ada's leg.
"Ada was working," she told him plainly.
Lin rolled her eyes at Kaito, though obviously there was no temper over the situation which was a good thing.
