Lucario took the attack, flinching as little as possible though the attack was painful. This Electabuzz was strong no doubt, though he was as rash and arrogant as his trainer. Using Cable's momentum against him, Lucario grabbed a hold of the Electric type's arm and pulled his forward. At the same same time he swiped his leg across the Pokemon's stomach in a Counter attack. There was no reason to force a fight when he could use his opponent's strengths against him. The fact that Brick Break was super effective also meant that Lucario's Counter would only be that much stronger.
Mitsu tossed around in her sleep, mumbling mostly incoherent words and sentences. "They would . . . never . . . forgive me," she whispered, the words barely strung together in a sentence. She pulled the sheets closer to her body, huddling closer to herself for warmth. Sapphire emitted some heat into the room, instantly warming it up to a cozy and comfortable temperature for his trainer. The small things were what he could provide her with and he'd jump at any chance to help her.

Ouch that hurt! Ace grimaced but held his own as he felt the other pokemons attack hit him dead on. Finally the two broke away from each other Ace was determined to win his first battle for his new friend. "Good job Ace! Your Ember looked really powerful!" Robin cheered giving the fire pokemon a thumbs up.
"Oh wow it landed! Good job Mittens! Let's do this!" Evan cheered feeling really excited now that it was an actual battle instead of a training one. "Ok Mitten's let's launch another Scratch attack!" The Glameow nodded doing its best to ignore its burn wounds, as it launched itself towards Ace again.
"Ace let's show them your Scratch attack!" Scratch? No that didn't sound that good, Ember sounded better, he didn't really want to take another painful attack from the other. Taking another deep breath Ace blasted out a small wave of fire using it as a sort of defense wall to escape the attack. It wasn't that he was afraid of pain but he didn't really want to get hurt unless he had to. "Aww, I wanted to see your Scratch attack. I bet it would have been stronger then Mittens but I guess it isn't." Robin pouted as she saw the wave of flame instead of a flash of claws.
What? He had done a good and complicated version of his move all by himself and she wanted to see a Scratch attack? Fine then! He would show her a Scratch attack. Growling to himself Ace took off towards the Glameow just as it took off towards him as well. The two meet in the center a flash of claws from each side. Biting back the pain, Ace pushed himself forward digging his feet in as he grappled with the Glameow before finally toppling it to the ground.
"Wow you sure are strong Ace!" Robin cheered her blue eyes were wide as she watched her pokemons impressive display. Ace sure was a lot different from Luffy, he was a lot better at fighting then the Ambipom and seemed a lot smarter as well. Sure he wasn't as strong but Ace had a lot more experience and it really showed.
On the ground Mittens did her best to push herself back up before falling back down to the ground defeated. She wasn't knocked out but she didn't really want to fight anymore those fire's hurt! "Oh are you done Mittens? Well you did great you really did!" Evan congratulated with a grin as he recalled the cat pokemon. "Ok now how about you try my new pokemon out! Starly lets go!" The new trainer released his second pokemon the small gray bird chirped happily upon being released. "We can win this battle Starly! Mittens has done most of the work and we can win!"
Most of the work? Ace was hardly even tired! Ok so the scratches hurt but they didn't hurt that bad. There was simply no way that he would lose to a Starly! He fought those all the time back at Rowans lab because they annoyed him when he was sleeping.

It seemed that the more Alphonse used his new Water Pulse move, the quicker he was able to pull it off, as this time only a few short seconds passed before the aquatic ball was launched at the angry Bidoof. It was far more accurate, as well, for the Plump Mouse Pokemon had been barreling forward for yet another Tackle (as according to Kasiya's PokeDex, it was the only move it knew other than Growl), but it was stopped in its tracks by a blast of cool water. For a moment, the Bidoof just stood there, looking like it couldn't recall why it had been running. "I think it's confused," Kasiya murmured, rechecking Water Pulse in the Attack-Dex section of the PokeDex. "Ooh, yeah, Water Pulse can leave its targets confused sometimes. Let's try to end this now, Alphonse. Give your Pound attack another try."
Alphonse planted his flippers on his hips and chirped loudly, certain that he had this one won now. However, he remembered his trainer's words from before and didn't hesitate to initiate his attack. His normally clumsy feet were swift and light beneath him thanks to his previously used Agility, and as he neared the Bidoof he jumped into the air and brought down both flippers hard onto the top of the brown Pokemon's head. Bidoof let out a cry and quickly dashed away into the safety of the nearby thicket. "Piiip-lupp!" Al shouted after it, shaking his flipper.
"You did it, Al! You won your first battle!" Kasiya cheered, kneeling down as the victorious little Penguin marched over to her proudly. He grinned up at her before pointing at the canister of food by her side, feeling he'd earned a few more bits of that yummy food. Kasiya giggled and was happy to oblige, pouring out a generous serving into the lid for the Piplup. Alphonse gave a cheer and plopped down in front of his makeshift bowl and began to eat happily. This was so much better than being stuck back at the lab, and he hoped Chimchar was having as much fun with his new trainer as he was.
=-=-=-=-= Wait a minute, isn't Exeggutor also part Psychic-type? Jaeshan thought as the Coconut Pokemon appeared on the field, looking quite spirited and eager for battle, and he looked around the gym once more. Judging by the gym's motif, I was certain Erika would be using Gloom or Vileplume. But she still has one left so we'll have to see... Meanwhile, the Egg Bomb had begun to rain down from above, and Jaeshan wasn't entirely sure how he was going to deal with it. "Blaziken, keep on your toes and dodge the best you can," he called. "Use a move if you must."
Blaziken nodded, flames blazing from her wrists as she eyed the incoming bombs. Jaeshan had asked her to dodge, but there would be no way she could avoid them all. He had also told her to use a move if she needed to, and she knew exactly which one would do the trick. Her wrists burned a little brighter as she threw back her head and unleashed a widespread Flamethrower above her head. The bombs detonated as they made contact with the intense flames, protecting Blaziken from their damage, but they couldn't stop the rapidly strengthening poison coursing through her system. Blaziken groaned a bit as she felt the toxins stealing her health, but she pressed on, determined not to give up.
=-=-=-=-= Erika had been expecting Jaeshan and Blaziken to figure out a way to avoid the barrage of Egg Bombs, and when she saw the flames rise into the air she closed her eyes. The flames are under control, she told herself, knowing this was the opening she'd been waiting for. "Exeggutor, Psychic attack," she said quickly, looking over at Blaziken once more as she was weakened by the poison.
The Coconut Pokemon had mortified expressions on all of its faces at the sight of the Flamethrower, and it had taken a step back as a precaution. However, upon hearing their master's command, all the heads began to concentrate deeply, a greenish glow encompassing them each in turn before it spread out over its whole body. Each head mumbled in unison as they launched the psychic energy forward. Jaeshan isn't the only one with Psychic-type Pokemon, Erika thought, sure that Exeggutor had been the perfect counter for Blaziken.

"Hitmonlee," Toku said, "I want to you prepare with Focus Energy!" The Pokemon firmly stood its ground, closing its eyes and concentrating its energy into its body. Nina watched carefully. "Well, we don't want to get hit by him, now do we?" she asked to nobody in particular. "Krystal. It's a little-known fact that Hitmonlee's Special Defense isn't bad, but its physical Defense leaves something to be desired. All that we have to do is land a couple strong physical attacks and he'll be down in no time. I want you to do everything in your power to avoid getting struck by him while trying to land attacks of your own." The girl thought for a moment. "Use Agility." While it wasn't the order that Krystal would have expected, she did as Nina asked of her. Closing her eyes for a brief moment, Krystal felt a surge of energy building up inside of her. Her body felt more limber and it felt as though her world was moving at a much faster rate. That meant that she had to move faster to keep up with it. When she opened her eyes, she flew around in a few circles at a faster pace than she had been able to move previously."
"Good girl," Nina complimented. "Now, launch into... a Dragon Rage attack! That's an attack that no Pokemon has an advantage against, no matter what their defenses!" In the blink of an eye, Krystal reared her head back and then lurched forward, blasting the Hitmonlee with a spray of blue flames that weakened him a bit. "What an annoying Pokemon," Toku commented. "Hitmonlee, use Bulk Up." Breathing in deeply, the Pokemon clenched its arm and leg muscles as tightly as it could, thereby making its Attack and Defensive abilities more potent. After the move had completed, Hitmonlee's body glowed for a brief moment. "Oh, of course it's got Leftovers," Nina said disdainfully. "And... aha! Toku's trying to stall so that he can build up Hitmonlee's power; that's why he hasn't tried attacking yet." Toku grinned. "Clever girl," he commented. Nina looked to her Pokemon. "We're going to have to take him out as quickly as possible. Krystal, use Dragon Rush! Go go go!" Nodding, Krystal shot forward towards Hitmonlee at a breakneck speed, crashing into his chest; the Dragon returned to Nina immediately thereafter, watching her adversary warily.
Toku appeared to be rethinking his battle strategy. He knew that his Pokemon wouldn't be able to stall forever. "Hitmonlee, it's time to start attacking! Use a Brick Break attack!" Hitmonlee understood his Trainer's command, but... it couldn't move. Its head hurt and its vision was doubled. Its body then glowed a moment later, its Leftovers taking effect. "What?" Toku asked. Nina grinned. "There's only a twenty percent chance that Dragon Rage can cause flinching," she commented, "and it looks like your Hitmonlee fell in that small range." She turned her head to Krystal, meeting her with a grin.

"Krystal, it's time to end this," Nina said, looking back to Hitmonlee. "Fly!" Now that was the command that Krystal was waiting to hear! Without a second thought, she shot up into the air with the speed of a bullet, carefully watching Hitmonlee, waiting to see what he would do. "This is of little consequence," Toku commented, wearing a smirk. "Hitmonlee, it's time for a combo attack! Bounce into the air, and launch into a Hi Jump kick from there!" It was nice change to finally be able to attack, and Hitmonlee jumped at the chance to do so, quite literally. Squatting down for a second or two, Hitmonlee used its stretchy legs to its advantage, springing itself into the air in Krystal's immediate direction. After getting enough leverage, the Pokemon whirled its legs around from in back of itself to in front, aimed directly for the Dragon Pokemon. "No, s**t!" Nina exclaimed. "Krystal, I want--"
Before Nina had a chance to give any type of order, Krystal rocketed toward Hitmonlee, a terrifically determined expression on her face. In one very swift movement that she executed in the blink of an eye, Krystal managed to wrap her body around Hitmonlee's legs, binding them together and preventing his attack from landing. After executing that attack, she used her speed advantage to Fly back down to the ground with the intent to crash herself and Hitmonlee into it, her body flashing yellow and white in the process. As she neared closer to the ground, her body flashed faster. Upon a powerful impact with the Gym's floor, she exploded in a Thunderbolt attack. As Hitmonlee was bound by Krystal's body, he was unable to move, and the electricity coursed throughout his own body. That, coupled with the force of impact from striking the floor, was enough to cause Hitmonlee to be knocked out. Krystal released Hitmonlee from her grip, and returned to Nina's side, visibly exhausted. "Krystal, that was absolutely brilliant!" Nina exclaimed, hugging her Pokemon tightly. Anna floated over, a smile on her face. "I agree," she said. "You were wonderful. Very well done, Krystal." Sabrina joined her sister and the Pokemon, petting the Dragon's head. "You're a real warrior, you know that?" she asked, a soft smile on her face. "You're definitely one in a million. Good job, girl." Unclipping the Ultra Ball from her belt, Nina recalled her worn out Dragon Pokemon. "It's time for you to rest. Thank you." She return the ball to her belt a moment later, then turned her gaze to Toku. She approached him.
"You have bested me in battle," Toku said. "It appears that I still have much to learn. As promised, now that you have defeated me, you have earned the right to battle Mateo." Nina nodded. "Thank you for the battle, Toku." She extended her hand out in front of her; Toku took it in his own, and shook it. "It was my pleasure. I can see how you earned the right to be a Gym Leader, Nina." She shook her head. "I only got that position by default," she replied. "This is my time of earning that title." She smiled. "I wish you the best of luck in your battle with Mateo," he said. "He's at the back of the Gym." Acknowledging this with a nod, Nina and her comrades walked past Toku, heading for the back of the Gym. It wasn't long before they found who they were looking for.
"Mateo!" the young girl called. "I am Nina Williams of Blackthorn City, and former Gym Leader of Saffron City. I challenge you to a Pokemon battle!"

Venerax ate with voracity. He truly must have been half-starved as he had said. He had a helping of everything that Arturo brought in on the trolley. Arturo and Bill ate in amiable silence watching the ocean. It wasn’t until Venerax started in on his second helpings that he broke the silence.
“So, Bill, how long until you know what’s wrong with Calculus?” He asked between mouthfuls of omelet.
“It will take me the afternoon to analyze the scans I’ve made, Venerax,” Bill said with a smile as he took a drink of orange juice. “So you will have to occupy yourself for at least the day.”
“Hrm.” Venerax leaned back in contemplation an apple in hand.

"Ok Starly use your Quick Attack!" The small bird chirped and took off almost disappearing before hitting Ace right in the chest. Of course Ace wasn't going to let that fly and after the attack landed he reached out to the escaping Starly and grabbed its leg and slammed it down to the ground. "You can't do that!" Evan pouted as he watched Ace bring down his pokemon.
To say Robin was impressed was an understatement, she had never seen a move like that done before. Ace really had a ton of battle experience and raw talent that was on Black*Star levels, maybe even higher. Sure he was the oldest of Robin's pokemon, but for a pokemon as low level as him pulling off a complicated move like bringing a flying pokemon like that down, well that was damn impressive. "Oh wow Ace! That was amazing! I mean I knew you were amazing but wowwowow!"
Ace grinned as he pinned down the Starly as it struggled to get out of his grasp. Taking a deep breath Ace blasted the Starly with a full powered Ember. The bird pokemon squawked as the flames hit it before passing out. It really must have been just caught if it was brought down just like that. Still the battle was over and Ace hopped off the Starly before heading back over to Robin to stand by her side.
"Well, that didn't last to long. Sorry if Ace really hurt your pokemon. If you want we can head over to the pokemon center together." Robin offered as she gave Ace a high five.
"No its ok, I need to head home for lunch now." Evan said as he recalled his Starly. The two waved goodbye before Robin turned to Ampersand grinning and waving him over. " What do you think Ampersand? You think Ace is ready to help me take on a pokemon gym?"
The taller man got up and headed over to Robin, he watched a little as the fire starter started to get a little sleepy but it seemed to hold itself up right for the most part. "He certainly does have the experience for it, I don't know if he can do a lot of damage though, Roarks gym is a rock type one."
"Rock type? Hmm, ok well I can deal with that." Robin muttered as she took Luffy from Ampersands arms. Looking down she spotted that Ace was asleep on his feet. Giggling she recalled him and placed her new pokemons pokeball into her bag. "Well let's get going! I need to get you to Snowpoint after all!" That said Robin and Ampersand started to head back to Jubilife. The two passed through the gate just a moment later since the route was so small.

The pokecenter’s slid open as the surfer and school boy approached. The familiar inside of the pokecenter was comforting to Crush. They approached the desk and the smiling nurse joy.
“Good day.” She chimed echoed by the cheerful Chansey beside her.
“Hola, Nurse,” Crush smiled. “My little brah here and me got into a bit of a scrap figuring our pokemon will be needing a rest y’know.”
“That won’t be a problem,” She set out a pair of trays for the pokeballs. “Just place your pokemon here and we’ll give them a good rest.”
“Mahalo,” Crush thanked her as he placed Ardah, Kalikea, and Agger on the tray.
“Thank you, ma’am,” Tailor said as he placed his new krabby in his tray.
“It shouldn’t be long. I will call you over when they are ready.” The nurse said as she took the trays.
Crush and Tailor walked over and sat down to wait. Crush sat back lounging on the chair, sprawling so much he nearly took up three of them. Tailor seemed anxious a bit.
“What’s up, little brah?” Crush asked after a moment.
“Well, I was just wondering where you’re from?” Tailor asked.
“Oh, that all,” Crush smiled. “I’m from Sinnoh, or at the oceans around it.”
“No wonder I didn’t recognize that disc pokemon!” Tailor smiled he seemed happy by this fact.
“You mean Ardah?” Tailor nodded. “He’s a bronzor.”
“Neat,” The school boy day dreamed for a moment all the different pokemon that could be found in Sinnoh. “So why are you in Hoenn?”
“Thought I’d come ashore from my parents ship, and catch up to them in Mossdeep City, little brah,” Crush explained.
“But Mossdeep is on the other side of Hoenn,” Tailor was aghast. “and in the middle of the ocean!”
“I know that little, dude,” The sinnoh surfer smiled and laughed. “gives me time to look around.”

The young Blackbelt wasn't at all surprised to hear the challenge issued from Nina, as he'd received a very important phone call from Lance not too long ago. He'd been sitting cross-legged on a mat near the back of the gym, preparing for the upcoming battle with quiet meditation. When the girl finally approached him, he rose, and eyed her carefully. Anyone paying close enough attention would notice he was barefoot. "I have been expecting you, Miss Williams," he said, giving a respectful bow, though he couldn't have been more than a year or so older than Nina. "As you already know, I am Mateo, and I welcome you both to our Dojo," he added, glancing quickly at the elder psychic. "As it is my sanctioned duty, I accept your challenge. We shall battle one on one to determine a winner." Mateo looked over at one of the students, and nodded, and the boy bowed before making his way to the main arena, seemingly the appointed referee for this match.
"Ready when you are, Sensei!" he called.
"Thank you, Tei," Mateo said, motioning for the two girls to follow him to the arena. He adjusted the red headband that kept his shortish, black hair in check before he removed a single Poke Ball from the pocket of his white judo uniform. "The Pokemon I choose for this match will be Medicham," he announced as the Meditate Pokemon materialized before him. Medicham bowed her head and folded her hands together as though praying, ready to defend her master's gym and title as leader. "Whenever you are ready, Miss Williams." ===== "Are you ready to battle now?" Miharu asked angrily once Tingle's attention was back on her, though the Metang actually looked a bit sorry. Aska let out an indignant chirp to show her annoyance, giving her wings a strong flap to carry her higher into the sky and out of the reach of the opposing Growlithe and Marshtomp. Tingle gave a nod and floated back into position, and Miharu sighed. "Let's try this again... Aska, Aerial Ace on the Growlithe, and Tingle, try a Psychic on the Marshtomp."
Aska gave a screech from her position in the sky, and she did a graceful loop-de-loop before diving down for the attack. Her body began to glow brightly, and right away Miharu knew that there was something different about it. Aska always glowed a bit when performing Aerial Ace, but this glow was brighter and much more intense, almost like the light of evolution, but Miharu dismissed the idea. The light dimmed suddenly, and the bird Pokemon swooped down for the attack, screeching loudly as her claws tore into the poor, blinded Growlithe. It wasn't until Aska slowed down that Miharu realized she'd been correct - at some point in the last minute or so, Aska had evolved into Pidgeot. The small girl's mouth was hanging open from the shock of the sudden evolution, but she managed to regain her composure and was soon grinning, looking over at Tingle as it evaded a Mud Shot from the Marshtomp and blasted it with a powerful-looking Psychic attack. Miharu had to admit that when Tingle was fully engrossed in battle, he really was quite formidable.
"Wow, Pidgeot," said Sydney, the evolution having surprised her, as well. "It's also good to see your Metang has come around," she added as her Marshtomp got back to its feet. "Growlithe, use your Odor Sleuth to get your bearings and then use Flamethrower!" The puppy Pokemon got to its feet, visibly shaken from Aska's hit, but it seemed able to go on. The Pidgeot's closeness to it had given the pooch a good whiff of her scent, and though he could barely see he threw back his head and unleashed a powerful blast of flames that scorched the Bird Pokemon for a serious amount of damage.

"Meowth, are you okay?" Devon called, peering into the smoky haze as he tried to locate his Pokemon. The cat meowed back, its voice a little shaky as it had just been scorched by the Quilava's embers. "Good, buddy! We're not giving up just yet," he added, directing the comment at Riza, who chuckled a bit.
"Too bad for you," she murmured, folding her arms across her chest. "Eris, let's use Extrasensory next," she said, not even bothering to try and see into the smoke. The Quilava was quite happy to hear the call for this attack, as it was by far her favourite. Though unseen within the smokescreen, the Quilava's eyes began to glow bright violet as she reached out with her mind once more, using her psychic powers to deliver a powerful attack to the unsuspecting Meowth.
Overcome by the psychic energy, the cat Pokemon didn't even have the strength left to cry out, and it wasn't until the smoke was cleared by Eris' psychic abilities that he saw the cat face down on the ground, and he recalled it. "Okay, round one goes to you guys," he told Riza. "But we'll win the next one! Next, I choose Sandshrew!" * * * * * "We're not letting him escape this time," Katie shouted, pointing at the Buizel as it tripped over its own feet due to the paralysis kicking in. "Get in there and use your Cross Chop attack," she told her Elekid, who had no problems running forward and taking aim at the paralyzed Buizel. He raised his two hands high before swinging downward with both, and this time there was nothing Buizel could do to stop it. He let out a pained cry as the powerful fighting-type move hit him hard, and the force of it sent him tumbling head over tails until he came to a stop by Katie's feet, completely out of it.
"That might have been overkill, Kord," Katie laughed, kneeling down in front of the fallen Buizel. His leg twitched now and then, and she sighed before dropping the poke ball onto his back. The sea weasel Pokemon was pulled inside, and the sphere wriggled only once or twice before coming to a stop, signaling that the capture had been successful. "That's more like it," Katie grinned, picking up the poke ball and attaching it to her belt. "Good job Kord, you really showed him," she said, holding out her arms as the Elekid ran over to her. He'd been hit a few times but he was still in relatively good condition, and he scrambled up onto his trainers shoulders. Katie had taken a few steps forward before she changed her mind, deciding to head back to Floaroma Town to get her new Buizel, whom she'd decided to name Miles, fully healed. 'Need all my Pokemon at their best for the trek through the forest,' she thought.

Nina bowed her head in response to Mateo's own bow. After watching him summon one of his students to act as the referee, Nina, Anna, and Sabrina followed Mateo and his student into the main arena. "A one on one match?" Nina asked, as she took to one side of the arena, Sabrina standing a slight distance behind her sister, her eyes darting from the younger psychic to Mateo. Nina watched as Mateo called forth a Medicham. I have to admit, I didn't see that coming, she thought. I was expecting Hitmonchan or maybe a Machamp... She paused for a moment to take in her atmosphere. "Right on, then. Anna, if you would, please?" The Ghost Pokemon nodded. "It would be my pleasure." Floating forward, Anna took her place on Nina's side of the arena, in front of her Trainer.
"If I am the one to open the match," Nina said, "then so be it. Anna, let's kick this off. Confuse Ray!" The Ghost smiled, her eyes glowing as a whitish light surrounded her, before entering her body. Several moments later, Anna loosed the light that was being stored inside of her unto the Medicham.

The trio made a quick stop in the pokemon center and then Ampersand led the way to the other side of town and soon they were passing through that gate as well. The three of them walked down the path and over a bridge passing a few trainers while they were at it. It was odd that they weren't challenged to any battles but they might have thought that Robin and Ampersand were on their way to the pokemon center to get the still sleeping Luffy healed? Or maybe they thought Ampersand was a trainer to and didn't want to get into a double battle with two people? Well whatever the reason they made a quick trip through a cave, which was pretty interesting, if really short, before making it to the next gate that lead into the city.
Jubilife and Oreburg were pretty close but the two towns were really very different from one another. Jubilife was full of flashing lights huge tv screens and skyscrapers while Oreburg had lots of mining equipment laying around and shorter stubbier buildings. Still Robin was no less impressed or excited to be her, then again she was almost always excited about everything.
"Oh wow this place is so cool!" Robin couldn't help herself as she practically danced around trying to take everything in.
"I never thought you would be into mining equipment." Ampersand joked as he watched her dance around. He had been to Oreburg a few times, he had actually taken place in a few digs to get some rare pokemon fossils for his bosses because they needed them for something or other. "Anyway Robin are you sure you don't want to do some more training before you take on the gym here? I mean we can always go back and battle a few more of those trainers." Really he wasn't sure that Ace would be able to make it past even one of Roarks pokemon, sure she had others but Roark was known for being a bit of a challenge to people who underestimated him.
"Nah, if we win we win and if we lose then I have to challenge him again." Robin waved him off as she bent over to examine a huge hole in the ground. "So where would he be anyway?" Robin wondered as she headed back over to Ampersand and her still sleeping Ambipom.
Using his free hand, Ampersand scratched at his chin as he racked his mind for information on this cities gym leader. After a moment he answered not quite sure if he would even be right. "I heard he spends a lot of time in the cities mine, if you look there you could probably find him."
Turning on her heel with a big grin on her face Robin started to march into the city her mind set on finding the mine now. "All right its off to the mines we go!"
"Do you even know where the mines are?" Ampersand called after her before shaking his head and following her. She would just wonder around until she found them there really was no stopping her.

The two blocked out that horrible sobbing noise and mentions of clean underwear and brushing dirt from between toes and being polite to girls. Instead, Scarlet and Cindy moved westward, jamming their hands over their ears. And after a few minutes, the sandy, incredibly tiny beach at the edge of Cherrygrove came into view. That in itself was Scarlet’s signal to start heading north. But first…
“ALRIGHT, CINDY!” Scarlet spun on his heel, jabbing a finger toward the Cyndaquil following at his heels. She stopped, hopping up on her hind legs, bringing a hand to her forehead in salute. “WHAT’S OUR GOAL, HUH?”
Cindy’s right paw shot to the sky. ”Quil!” she squealed, hopping up and down energetically.
“That’s right, buddy! We’re heading straight to the top! Pokemon League Champions!” Scarlet kneeled down in front of his little fire mouse, held his hand up in front of him, and grinned. Cindy hopped up, and after a high five, Team Scarlet began its march toward Route 30, where bug catchers and angry owls awaited.

Riza looked towards Devon curiously as he sent out his Sandshrew for she had never seen one before. It was small and kind of cute, and she took out her pokedex to see what it had to say. "It's a ground-type," she mumbled, reading over the information quickly. "So it will be strong against Eris, but that doesn't mean we can't win." She shut the device off and pointed at the mouse Pokemon. "Eris, same tactics as last time! Smokescreen!" The Quilava nodded, very much in agreement with Riza's command and once again she began to fill the battlefield with hazy smoke.
"Oh no, not this time!" Devon shouted. He'd had enough of the Quilava and her smokescreens. "Sandshrew, put a stop to that with your Sand attack!" The Sandshrew bolted forward, moving quicker than Riza would have expected it to, and it dug its claws into the ground and flung several large scoops of sand right into Eris' face. This caused the Quilava to cry out and the smoke stopped, the small amount that had been created drifting away with the breeze.
'At least Eris still has her Foresight,' Riza thought, a bit annoyed. "Don't worry about it, Eris!" she called. "Try an Ember!" Eris pawed at her eyes a bit, just able to spy the Sandshrew out of the corner of her eye. Her flames flared up once more as she spewed a burst of small flames at the Sandshrew. Her aim was way off though and the mouse was able to dart away. 'Foresight,' Riza thought, closing her eyes. 'Foresight.' * * * * * It didn't take long for Katie to retrace her steps back to Floaroma Town, and once she was there she went straight for the pokecenter. It was a fast round of healing since only Kord and Miles were need in treatment, and within a few minutes she was back on the road again. She kept her pace quick until she was out of breath for she still wasn't used to all this walking around. She saw many people on the road as well, though she refused to make eye contact with any of them. She didn't want any more battles, at least not until she reached the forest. She was already sure it was going to take her a long time to get through there, even with her town map and the high powered GPS on her mobile.
Before long she'd passed by the Valley Windworks again and was headed back up route 205. This time she didn't think twice about making her way through that tall grass, though she kept Noa's poke ball at the ready in case of any more wild Pokemon. Normally she would have relied on Genki for this job, but his flaming tail was something to worry about. She didn't need to start any fires on her way to the forest, which made her think that perhaps Genki wouldn't see much action in Eterna Forest, either.

Devon seemed to be pretty pleased with himself for stopping Eris' Smokescreen judging by the big smirk on his face, and Riza couldn't help but feel a bit annoyed at it. "Don't think you've won yet," she cautioned, waggling a finger at him. "Just because she can't see doesn't mean that she's totally helpless. Eris, I'm pretty sure you know what to do now," she went on. The Quilava quickly realized that pawing at her eyes would only make the sand sting worse so instead she just closed them, and reached out with her mind once more. Though she couldn't physically see anything she was able to sense the area around her, and that also included the whereabouts of her opponent.
Devon looked a bit confused at the lack of a real command from Riza, but he didn't question it. "Don't tell me what to think," he shot back before looking to his Sandshrew again. "Sandshrew, use Poison sting!" he shouted. Sandshrew nodded and curled into a ball before he bounced up and began to spin, which caused many small, poisonous barbs to fly from his body and towards Eris. There were far too many for the Quilava to dodge and she was struck by quite a few of them, and a chill started to creep down her spine as the poison entered her system, unbeknownst to Riza. 'It'll take more than that to bring down Eris,' she thought, wondering what attack she should use next. Meanwhile Eris tried her best to pretend like nothing was wrong, for the last thing she wanted to do was make Riza worry about her. * * * * * Between her map and GPS, it didn't take Katie long to navigate her way out of the grassy maze and up onto the rocky path that would take her to Eterna Forest. Along the way she saw a couple of hikers that had stopped to challenge each other to a battle, though it wasn't really going anywhere as both had sent out a Geodude, and the rocky Pokemon had each grabbed a hold of the other and were now wrestling on the ground for superiority. Katie could hardly call it a battle at all, even though both hikers were cheering on their respective Pokemon in hopes of claiming victory. Katie watched them for all of two minutes before deciding the wrestling match was frightfully dull and she continued her hike up the rough path. It was quite a climb and Katie found herself stopping to catch her breath more than she would have liked, and she cursed herself for being so out of shape despite her tiny stature. 'Just wait until I get used to all this outdoorsy stuff,' she thought as she stopped once more, having a small sip of water from her canteen. 'I'll kick these mountains' butts then.'
It was about an hour or so before suppertime when Katie finally made it to the entrance to Eterna Forest, and for a moment she paused, wondering just what it would be like inside. She'd heard it was a natural maze from some of the kids in her former class, but that opinion had been contradicted by one of her books, which informed her that the Viridian Forest, somewhere in Kanto, was even more difficult to navigate. 'I guess there's only one way to find out,' she thought as she stepped over the threshold and into the forest, immediately liking the cooler temperature the tree canopy provided. "It's not so bad in here," she mumbled, looking around as she walked. There was a visible, well worn path right in front of her, and judging by her map it was the one that would take her to Eterna City. "I suppose people go through here all the time," she said to herself. "I bet we'll be out of here in no time."
