Sage Nathan was concentrating very hard when he heard Kin recite the incantation to a spell, some sort of flame spell he thought. He grinned a little. Fire wouldn't do any good against the darkness, it was not simply a wall of shadow, it was a complete sphere surrounding the combatant. The fire would still burn, but it's light would not be able to penetrate the darkness.
Nathan went back to his concentrating. Casting without speaking the incantation was something that he was still learning to do. He believed he was ready, focusing he prepared to cast his spell.
Evidens spiritus.
...Nothing happened...
Damnit! Still need more practice at this I guess. Time to fall back on the old standby.
This time he spoke the incantation aloud. "Evidens spiritus." He said very loudly and clearly. Silent casting was not the only trick he knew to make sure that his location stayed undiscovered. As he spoke he threw his voice, making it sound as though his voice were coming from several feet to one side. As the spell took effect he was able to see a glowing shape within the darkness of the shadow sphere. He could now see the lifeforce of the enemy. "Evidens spiritus." He said, again throwing his voice to the same spot, this time targeting his partner with his spell.
The large black, winged, cat was suddenly able to see life as well, and decided to utilize it's new abilities to attack the combatant within the shadows. The cat, Sombra, darted across the battlefield, silently padding along on it's soft paws. As it neared the sphere it lashed out, through the darkness, towards the combatant within. And could feel the heat of the fire hidden inside almost immediately. Roaring in pain and frustration, Sombra continued the attack regardless of the pain that he was inflicting on himself.

Vilya looked on. These spells were complex and difficult to maintain. Tura growled in her mind, she had been listening to her thoughts.
"I'd like a chance to speak with them after our match." Tura lay down behind her companion, curling about her and allowing Vilya to lean back against her flank. Her tail twitched as she followed the battles, watching the sages as a cat would watch mice at play.

This kid's good with a staff. Keeping me on the defensive, and close so he doesn't lose track of me. Well, I'll put an end to that. And show him why I'm a Sage and he's not.
The white lion-like creature, Luz, was still locked with Stratus. All he needed was to land one good hit and he'd be able to end the stalemate they seemed stuck in.
Noah dared a glance at his partner while parrying and deflecting the viscous attacks of the Combatant. He could see that his partner was matched almost evenly against the feathered dragon. He gathered in his concentration, he'd need it to cast a spell and keep hi defense up at the same time. "Visum Fracta." He called out, targeting his opponents partner. The spell connected with Stratus and he suddenly saw multiples of his opponent. There were nearly a dozen of the white, winged, lion overlapping each other in front of him. He no longer knew which attacks to defend against. He almost immediately took a resounding paw strike in the face. The cat creature had a good bit of power, it had not extended it's claws on that attack, but the impact alone had made his vision do dark around the edges momentarily. He fell flat to the ground when he saw another dozen strikes coming at him. The dodge worked effectively enough, causing the strike to pass harmlessly through the air above his head. He darted back, retreating, and took to the air as soon as he could get his wings unfolded and beat the air down beneath him. He glanced back over his shoulder, seeing fragmented visions of the lion taking to the air after him.
Stratus asked as he swooped desperately through the air, using his superior speed to stay one step ahead of the enemy, despite his disorientation.
Stratus continued his aerial evasion tactics while Sai focused on keeping his opponent where he could reach him and simultaneously wracking his brain for a spell that he had only ever used once. Suddenly it hit him.
He said and poured magical energy into his partner through their empathic bond.
Stratus whirled about, facing his enemy. As he spread his wings and limbs out wide, appearing to be preparing himself to grapple with the enemy in midair, he shook loose dozens of feathers from his body.
The lion, Luz, closed on him in a flash. Propelling himself through the air harder, now that he thought he would be able to finish their confrontation.
As the dozen images grew large in his sight Stratus gathered up his and his partners magical energy, and forced it into a spell. Stratus said inside their heads, and instantly teleported directly behind Luz, and quite a ways back from him. Due to his inexperience with the spell, and casting in general, Stratus inadvertently drew more than twice the amount of energy that Sai would have used for it.
Sai, still in his deadlock, felt even more of his energy drain away through their bond. Already pushing himself quite hard the sudden depletion of so much of his energy caused sweat to bead all over his body. He knew he wouldn't be able to maintain his assault for much longer.
Stratus, after teleporting, gathered more of their energy and, again wasting it, cast his second spell. The feathers floating in the air around Luz suddenly took on a sheen as they sharpened along their edges. A third spell, a third drain on their reserves, and the feathers began to swirl and whirl about, around the lion, into him. Sharp forms tossed about in a brief but devastating maelstrom.

(( Do we get two marks from this one?? =P That is if we even win. =_= ))
Kin heard the wavering of the flames as the creature's claws swiped through them at him. Kin had no idea at what angle the attack was coming in, he just knew it was coming. The attack could be lethal, he had no idea. All Kin knew was he had to move, even through the fire and run aimlessly if he had to.
I want to win... And this b*****d keeps hiding. I won't let him win like this. Kin's thoughts growled.
"Volo campester duos." Kin muttered and in an instant Kin jumped to his right at top speed along with his new speed spell level two, sending him quickly through his wall of fire without being burned and across the terrain in a blink of an eye and then crashing into a stone wall. Much of the wall tore apart and dust and debris flew around. Kin still remained in darkness but managed to evade a perhaps fetal strike. Reckless or not, Kin was alive.
Kin coughed very times and got to his feel. Vix slithered off Kin's body and dug into the ground during the commotion. "s**t, my back hurts like hell now." Kin groaned. "But that's some crazy speed. I can't even control my footing at all."

((You know... I don't know... I hadn't thought of that at all. They are two Sages, but it's two on two, which can also be seen as a set of one on one fights happening simultaneously. What do you think? What does Griffin think?))
The darkness clung to Kin like a shadow, his own in fact. Sage Nathan was rapidly consuming his magical energy by maintaining the spell, though, and knew that he needed to finish the fight. Hi partner, Sombra, had missed his attack, and gotten burned in the process. The large cat was already pacing towards where their prey had run to, but limping as he went.
Nathan gathered up a good portion of his remaining magical energy and prepared his next spell. "Glacies Obductio." He said and threw his voice several feet to one side. He thrust his hand out as he spoke, also, towards Kin.
The spell took effect a few feet in front of Kin creating an inch thick layer of ice that expanded towards the orb of darkness that contained the combatant. If it reached him, which it surely would, it would enclose his feet in the coating of ice, locking him in place.
Sombra and his partner had performed this spell combo many times before, and he knew what was expected of him. He continued to pad towards the enemy, slowing slightly, so that he did not get caught in the ice also. Once he was sure the ice had entrapped the combatant he would carry out his attack, battering the man while he was trapped in the ice, unable to escape.

Vix who was underground now sensed the disturbance above but still had no clue what it was though it was drawing nearer to his partner, he could feel the slight disturbances of vibrations in the ground.
Vix warned Kin quickly.
Vix yelled at Kin.
"Ahhh!" Kin yelled as he sprang to his right which caused Kin to fly with enormous uncontrollable speed through the crossfire of Sai's battle unknowingly and then crashing into a wall again.
"This sucks! Not only can't I not see, but I can't control my own speed!" Kin stopped as he slowly recovered. Rocks and debris flying once again due to his impact.

Can't seem to control his own spell. Eventually he's going to injure himself like that. And he should be consuming his energy nearly as fast as I am.
Nathan said as he advanced on his opponent, easily marked by the large orb of darkness surrounding him, across the battlefield from him.
Sage Nathan gathered in a significant portion of his remaining energy and readied his spell. "Congeries Glacies Obductio." He threw his voice out to one side as he spoke again. He gestured with his free hand and the ground in front of hi, and expanding for 45 degrees to either side of him, began to be coated in a thick layer of ice. The ice was nearly a foot thick and so smooth as to be reflective.
Luz, the white lion, fell to the ground as the brief storm died. His body was cut and lacerated in dozens upon dozens of places, and he landed his a heavy thud and crack as at least one bone broke on impact.
Noah instantly felt his partners pain. "You b*****d!" He exclaimed as he spun his staff in defensive patterns. He suddenly shifted to offense, take a set of heavy cracks to the shoulder and torso as he chose not to parry the attacks.
Sai tried to press the advantage but as his vision, while starting to return, still made everything appear as little more than extremely diluted splotches of color, he knew he's never be able to deflect any crucial attacks as they came at him. He darted back, taking a blow to his left arm as he did. and began to retreat backwards while twirling his staff in front of himself in the best semblance of defense he could manage at the moment.
Noah felt victory within his reach. He gathered up his magical energy, far more than he knew he would need, and began to cast his last spell of the battle. The last one he knew he would need. "Flamma Fluctus Fragor!" He shouted out, raising his staff to point directly at the enemy combatant. Fire, beginning from where he held the staff, began to swirl down it's length, gathering speed, size, and intensity. Noah grinned, waiting fro the inevitable flame surge that would consume his enemy.
Stratus' large dragon claw came down directly on the staff just as the flames were about to leap from it. The staff was driven down, into the ground, with enough force to snap it in half. The flames reached the ground almost instantly causing a large explosion that sent both mages and one dragon flying backwards amid a rain of rubble, smoke, and sparks.
Noah was climbing back to his feet within moments of landing, half of his broken staff still in hand. A long feathered tail, tufted on the end, whipped out of the smoke and wrapped about him, binding his arms to his body. He was lifted into the air and found himself, suddenly, face to face with his opponents partner, a dragon.
Stratus roared viciously in the Sages face, displaying his great maw of fangs while deafening the young man. Then he flicked and uncoiled his tail, sending the Sage flying across the ring to crash into a wall where he fell to the ground and lay slumped.

Vix thought to Kin.
Kin argued.
"Now I'm really pissed off." Kin growled and hit his gauntlets together.
Kin ordered but also made note to warn his partner.
Vix replied.
Kin said grinning. "Flamma culmen!" Kin shouted, thrusting forward his arms as if to direct the spell.
Nathan's ice was just mere feet away from Kin when Kin shouted his spell. "What?" Nathan said, confused as to how Kin has so much energy left.
Vix was already making a break for it because he knew what was coming and how pissed off Kin was. It would be any normal Flame Pillar like usual.
Sombra was sizing up Kin, about ready to strike when a bright red cinder light began to encompass the ground surrounding Nathan within ten meters in every direction, leaving Sai and Luz just outside of the cindering circle shape on the ground.
"Sai! I don't know if you're inside my spell's diameter or not, so move your a**!" Kin shouted loudly to warn Sai and with that he also made a movement to the furthest corner of the area with his demonic speed, causing him to once against crash into a stone wall with much drawback though allowing him to evade Sambra unknowingly as well. The moment Kin smashed into the wall, a massive gush of liquid lava and flames exploded from the ground from which the cindering circle outlined with Nathan inside it.

Sai lay where he had been tossed by the explosion. He was coated in sweat, and breathing raggedly, but he was still conscious. He knew he had to stay that way also, or his match against the Sage would be called a draw. He was awake, but his eyes were closed, and he did not have the energy to move, not even when he heard Kin's yelled warning.
Stratus, however, did hear Kin's warning, and he knew that Sai was in no condition to escape. He thrust his wings back and tore across the ring towards his partner. As he passed over Sai's unmoving body he scooped him up in his large foreclaws and, with another stroke of his wings, glided towards the far corner of the small battlefield.

Vilya and Tura both watched carefully. The battle had been so intense Tura was forced to put up a shield to protect them from flying rubble. The differences in thier characters could not be clearer than they were now; Tura composed and silent, Vilya shouting encouragement; whooping when her friends landed hits and wincing when they took blows. Different as they were, they both held thier breath for Kin's final attack.
((Hey, can Tura realize that it wasn't Sai casting those spells? What's up with that anyway?))

((Stratus has always had very slight magical ability, but it's not something that he pursues, which is why he used about three times the energy as Sai would. And, yeah, she should be able to realize that it was him. The creatures of this world are magical by nature, so many of them might have some casting ability, though almost none will have as much talent in it as Tura does. Even Stratus' level of casting skill is above the norm, and he kinda sucks.))
