Saorise O'Crom

It seemed after a few moments, the woman noticed her presence: not that that had necessarily been Saorise's goal, but now that she had been spotted, she was glad the reception was warm. "Don't mind if I do." Yeah...neck problems...that was totally what she had. At some point, she would probably need to learn to play that up more, lest people start thinking she just wore the brace as a fashion statement or a way to elicit pity, which in turn would make it more likely that she had to confess why she wore it. She chose the closer of the two chairs, not really noticing a significant difference between the two, and both seemed equidistant from her companion, so it wasn't like she was offending by choosing one chair over the other. "I would say tha maybe we should punish yer models by eating te ones tha don't fulfill their duty, but tha might just be me stomach talking. Also, it wouldn't exactly be appropriate fer me to take what's yers. Even if it do look delicious." She barely even noticed the question as to whether or not she liked sweets, but some little corner of her mind caught it, and she couldn't help but flash a grin. "If'n I had me way, 't'would be dessert every hour. 'Sides, this look like te belly of someone who don't make te quaintance of e'ery sweet they meet?" She placed a hand on her belly and gave it a slight shake. Yes, she was on the heavy side, but after living through several famines, she knew the value of a steady food supply and a good reservoir of fat. She stifled a slight yawn before returning to conversation. "If ye don' mind me asking, what are ye working on? Some sort of food-related drawing? I'm no artist, but if ye want to bounce ideas off me, I donnae mind. Then ye might not need yer models." She could be a shameless mooch when she wanted to be, but at least she offered to help out in exchange.

Now that she was seated across from the woman, she had a much better view. The woman seemed fairly young, with fascinating multi-hued eyes, and long luxuriant brown hair. Possibly she was of hispanic descent, but Saorise really wasn't worldly enough yet to have any faith in her assumption. Even better, she definitely had a sense of fashion, even if it was not exactly something that Saorise would have worn. It looked good on her and she seemed comfortable in it, so that was all that mattered. She couldn't help it, she loved a woman with a strong sense of self. That and the woman was clearly an artist, a genre of person that Saorise always enjoyed associating with. She might not have had any artistic talents, but she could appreciate them in others. "Fore we get started, lemme grab some coffee. Ah been up all night, and I donnae wanna be falling asleep on ye. Or at least, donnae wanna be falling asleep when I have such good company." She excused herself for a moment to get a coffee with so much espresso and caffeine in it that it was liable to make a corpse run a marathon. Exactly what she needed. After paying for and receiving her drink, she returned to the table. "So, I realized I donnae know yer name. I'm Saorise. And ye be?" It wasn't the most graceful of introductions, but Saorise wasn't exactly a graceful person.

"No soy todo lo que ves, pero tampoco ves todo lo que soy."

Settling her sketchpad away from herself so she wouldn't be interrupting her company with her task. As much as the task was important, work had its own time but it wouldn't be this. She had company and busying herself with her sketch would be quite rude of her. The woman's colored hues watched the other, idly studying her brace before taking in her features. It wasn't often that one would see ears like she had even in this world where the supernatural were as common as cats on the streets, but besides her ears, she was intrigued by her hues- every one of them - her eyes, her hair, her skin. Odd as it was, Lisa paid a lot of attention to little things like a creep maybe, but she was very intrigued by colours- an artist's soul after all.

The hispanic woman adjusted her self on her seat once her company settled on the seat, crossing her leg over the other as she leaned back on the backrest. Mentally though she was questioning her stature too, was it too much of a power stance? Why was she even overthinking this? Shaking her head at the thought, she reverted her attention back at the other and down at her models when she heard the other mention that she should just eat them in her own spectacular manner which did make her snicker. "Well, they haven't been doing what they were meant to, maybe they do deserve being punished." the other would state crossing her arms across her chest before she reached over and dragged the tray closer. "I suppose, but I do hope you have room for some more. I cannot finish them all on my own." she added with a slight smile.

"Art for a restaurant that wanted their customers to experience their food in odd manners. I had references for their own food, but then, I thought some live models would help too." she responded to the other with a smile, although there was no need to imply how badly she was failing on this.

As much as Lisa needed her models, working on an empty stomach with two women waiting to wolf down the platter before them. Maybe a bite or two wouldn't hurt? The flavors could probably boost some ideas? "You know, maybe wolfing down some wouldn't be as bad an idea as it seems. Maybe it would help us think better?" she suggested. Surely she could wolf down the entire platter herself, but she wasn't going to be rude to her company.

Letting the other fetch a drink for herself, she tried to busy herself with a little sketch of the food. She set it aside as quickly as the other came by, ack! silly girl so lost in work that she nearly forgot about courtesy. "My bad!" she chuckled, reaching over to take her hand if she would take it. "I'm Lisa, it's a pleasure to meet you Saorise." she said with a smile.

Saorise O'Crom

Seemed the woman was switching between being social and getting her work done, which was very diligent of her. Saorise was rarely that diligent unless she had a boss figuratively breathing down her neck. "Nice name. Well, now we be properly acquainted." She said as she took a sip from her drink. It was so caffeinated, she blinked back her surprise before taking another sip. "Ah good, I didn't need to be sleeping this century." Well, now that she was properly awake, she could process what all had been said and develop coherent responses. "Ah'd be lying if'n I said I wouldn't back any idea tha lead ta dessert. But maybe eating it would let ye think outside of look and more about feel. Cause that's been a thing since Impressionists, right?" Which to her felt like only a couple years ago, but intellectually she knew it was a fair number of years by human standards. Though she was quite keen to help out in a straightforward manner, there was something else she was curious about, and maybe it would help out in this situation. Probably not, but she was still curious. "So...I notice ye were checking me out earlier. I donnae mind, of course, I like being appealing and I care bout fashion. But I'm curious, what did ye see? What sparked yer interest and what seemed irrelevant, if I may ask?" Who knows, maybe Lisa's answer would give her an idea if the girl had been just taking in her look, or if she had been interested in her. And if she was interested, to what extent?

She leaned back in her chair, letting it take care of holding her up. Even if she was dosing herself with coffee to stay awake, she still wanted to be perfectly comfortable, and riding through country roads for several hours sometimes gave one terrible back aches. She discretely crossed her legs at the knee, not wanting to flash her partner in a public place, though if they had been somewhere more private, she would not have cared too terribly much. Her coffee couple was on the table, her hands folded in her lap as she waited patiently for Lisa to gather her thoughts and explain what she had found while scoping her out. Or Lisa could shift the topic by offering up desserts, which could distract Saorise more easily than a cat at a laser factory. Either option was perfectly fine with her as both satisfied a need: curiosity or hunger. Or maybe she would get lucky and get both. That would be a pleasant surprise indeed.

"No soy todo lo que ves, pero tampoco ves todo lo que soy."

Lisa was what one would call a workaholic, sometimes, she liked overworking herself which was why following her passion was the easiest choice to keep her busy, although as it would seem, it was turning out to be more of a hurdle than she ever anticipated it to be. Like many, she too believed that art was her means of escape and her way to earn her bread, but maybe she should have listened to the few friends who were skeptical about her decision to take up art as a livelihood rather than keeping with the bliss of it being a hobby. These thoughts didn't frequent her as much as they have been recently and she wasn't going to deny, it was shaking her momentum quite a bit. The recurrent art block was just making it worse. Already in her mid 20's with no form of support, she should start taking serious life decisions and maybe it would be soon.

For now, her company needed her more than her life that was falling apart. Also, it would be rude of her to start working while the woman was with her, even if it was sketching- work was work. Maybe not so rude if she was sketching the other. A smile played on her lips when she complemented her name, she didn’t get that often but she liked it none the less. “Why thank you, I really like yours though. Much more unique then Lisa.” She chuckled, yet truly meaning the complement. As much as she loved colours, she did love a good name too and she did consider mixing up a batch of colour that would remind her of her company today and name it after her. As odd as that was, that was one of the things Lisa did to remember people better.

“This century?” the woman echoed almost instantly, quickly slapping her hand to her lips when she realised she just did that. ¡Ah, Tonta! (Ah, idiot!) she called herself mentally before she rubbed the back of her head, drawing her hand away from her lips with a little nervous chuckle. “I’m sorry about that, I shouldn’t be too nosy.” she apologised before looking over at her none the less, her eyes and expression reading curious still but she wasn’t sure if she should admit it. Alas, she was a talkative one and the one who couldn’t always keep it to herself so she did end up asking. “But I am curious, have you really lived that long?” she’d ask, crossing her arms across her chest as she went back to the backrest of her seat and watched the other, surely not going to push her if she chose not to speak about it.

Considering the other’s suggestion and her understanding of art, she did nod and decide to scrap the idea of watching these sweats lose their lustre while she tried to draw them and eat them- share them with her new companion and maybe reflect on what occurred to her before she did put the pen down. Although before she could even bring her arm forward to offer the other the sweets that were already open for her to grab, the woman’s question nearly made her choke on the air she breathed as her cheeks took up a warm hue of pink. Maybe it was the way she worded it, but it did make Lisa think that the other might have had the impression that she might have been more than just observing her with intentions she didn’t think of for another woman. Not that there was anything wrong with swinging the other way, but Lisa didn’t consider herself drawn to the aspect of being with another woman for love. Maybe that implied to men equally since she was prettymuch married to her art- but she did prefer the beauty and appeal a man’s body had over that of a woman. The woman couldn’t help but stifle a light roll of laughter, pursing her plump lips to try and not seem rude. Raising her hands in defeat, and mostly also because she gestured a lot as she spoke, she waved them to try and dismiss any negative air around them form the laughter. “I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to laugh. I just found your choice of words quite amusing.” she admitted, hopefully she didn’t offend the other, “As for me looking at you, I did and I apologize if that came off offensive but I just found you an appealing subject. The way your natural hues all harmonise is very appealing so maybe in a way I was interested?” she added with a smile. Maybe she should be more discreet when she looked at people like this, it could always give people the wrong impression about her.

The brunette did quickly push the tray towards her and gesture for her to take the first bite, not intentionally to change the subject but merely let her have the first bite so she could devour one of her models too.

She took whichever dessert happened to be nearest to her, a chocolate cupcake, and ferociously sank her teeth in. Poor cupcake never stood a chance. "Thank ye for sharing yer models," she said about a second after she had taken one and it was already half gone. "I donnae mind the staring, long as it wasn't cause of something unpleasant. Still, nice knowing I have harmonious colors; they are the traditional Irish blend. Not sure I could change it if I didn't, but still." As for finding out that Lisa wasn't interested in her romantically, she didn't care too terribly much. While it would have been nice to go on a date, she was quite content with having friends as well, plus it was sort of ridiculous to think of someone falling for another that quickly. Though Lisa continued to use the word "interested," her tone suggested it was not in a romantic way, which was an important distinction.

She really wasn't sure what to do now that she had finished the cupcake. Sure there were still several more desserts around, but would it be greedy of her to take another one? "Feel free to tell me no or stab me hand if I get too greedy. Donnae want ye to feel o'erburdened with options, but donnae want to be stealing from ye neither." With that warning, she tentatively took another dessert. Of course if she were told no or even given a look, she would stop, but if it seemed fine, she was most delighted to take the goodness off of Lisa's hands. She gave a slight smirk as she pondered over how to answer the age question. "I thought ye weren't supposed to ask a lady her age or weight? I guess I'm not the most lady-like, so it is fine. I meant hundred years as an expression, but with this town, I can see why ye might think it literal. So how 'bout this? I'll answer yer question if and only if ye don't ask me for me weight." She hadn't been on a scale in ages, but she knew the last time she had been, the number glaring at her hadn't been too great, and that was many gallons of beer and pounds of sweets ago. She would only give a moment for Lisa's response before launching into her answer with a twirl of her fork. "I have lived that long, indeed. Actually, unless I'm off my mark, I'd wager I have seen more centuries than ye've seen years. Tha said, I donnae respond well ta "old," "ancient," or even "venerable." Nope, I'm still me, even if I have seen a right many years." Frankly she wasn't sure how old she was, but she knew she had been around for a while before humans came to Ireland, and according to some research, that was 7,000 years ago. How long she had been around before they came was completely unknown to her. "Used ta miss the old days of mead, wine, ambrosia, and other such; but I admit, chocolate is probably better." Screw what people said about the "good old days," there was nothing pleasant about famine and rampant disease, and plenty of good things about international cuisine and the internet.

"Well, tha's all for tha matter. Let's focus back on yer work and see if the two of us can't come up with something real impressive for yer commission." Surely by now she had had at least some of the dessert, so hopefully she would be able to not only think straight, but also have an idea about what sort of experiences the food entailed. "Have ye had a chance to try what they be getting ya to sell? If they want folks ta experience the food, then they gotta let ye experience it as well, don'tcha think?" While she was no artist, she had the distinct feeling that Lisa was focusing too much on form over function; meaning: capturing what it looked like more than what it felt like. And if the client had just wanted what it looked like, they could have easily just used a photo. "Hope I'm helping and not just wasting yer time." Maybe a second opinion wasn't worth much if it wasn't from a fellow artist? She was just trying to be a good sounding board.

Welp, today was shite weather, which didn't affect him were he alone, but he was always particularly worried about his baby girl on dreary days (and any time he left the house, or when she left the house, or when she tried to learn to drive, or when she took on more responsibilities, or...). But dreary days were particularly bad, so he had to find ways to combat this. While it may not have been the best option from a super responsible parent's perception, he knew his baby loved sweets and they seemed to cheer her up without fail. So here he was, at the Cafe, looking to get some fresh treats for her. He would get several things, in the vain hope that he could distract her with one treat while he hid the others, but in their time living together that had never worked. She could always sniff out the treats and he could never say no to her.

The past two weeks hadn't been bad. He had eventually figured out why he had been in such a funk: it was the fiftieth anniversary of they day they had died. Of course he hadn't told Emi this, no reason to bring her down as well, but even without telling her, he was sure she knew something was wrong and had worked diligently to carry him through his troubles. And after a couple days, he was back to his normal neutral state (though of course his personality shifted towards maternal around her). Things had gone back to normal and they had explored together and played music together and all sorts of things that worked to reinforce their incredibly strong mother-daughter relationship. Then the storm came and made everything difficult, but at least it seemed like the rains were beginning to fade away.

Currently, he was standing in line, texting Emi for the umpteenth time to make sure everything was ok and that Bunta was being a good cat and protecting her from the storm. Honestly, the way he tended to her, onlookers would probably assume his child was only eight or nine and not twenty-two, but she was his only ray of light in a world of darkness, and nothing was more important to him than taking care of her. Today, he was wearing his standard torn black jeans, torn black t-shirt, and black boots, though everything was darker as he was sopping wet. Even though his skin was frigid, he didn't seem to care as he messaged his baby girl and eagerly awaited her reply.

┏┉┄┈┈┈┈┈⌣̊┈̥-̶̯͡ ː̗̀ǁ It had been a few short weeks since Shula had decided to leave her home. The reason for not leaving her home was all due to her right foot which had been screaming in pain. But today was different, she felt so much better except for occasionally pain she had here and there whenever she stood on it for too long. Even though today was dreary and rainy, the orange-haired woman decided that it would be best to go to the cafe, since as of right now she was running low on food to eat. So without any further ado, Shula decided to head out in the rain towards the cafe that was in the town. It was going to be a slow walk due to the fact of how painful her foot was feeling today. Shula knew she would get soaked but she would have to get over the fact. She was used to the rain from her home in Indonesia, but this rain was a rather annoying one.

After almost an hour of slow walking, Shula finally arrived at the Moonbucks Cafe. Quickly entering the cafe, the female finally looked up at the menu once she had closed her umbrella. She decided to have a hot chai tea, with milk in it in order to have a latte. Finally, after ordering and grabbing her hot tea with milk, the long-haired woman takes a seat at last at one of the tables inside the shop.

Two girls had gotten in line behind him, and while they were quite shapely, their idle prattle left much to be desired. In the end, they held about as much interest to him as a dead fly in a windowsill. However, the person who came in after them did catch his interest. Or at least, her hair caught his interest: it was just a shade darker than his baby girl's, which automatically gave the girl some favor. The two girls were just talking away, not really paying attention to anything else, which probably meant they would take forever once they got to the counter. Plus they would probably order something stupidly complex, if the stereotype held. Not really giving a damn, he turned back to the girl who had just entered, he motioned to Pinky, "hey, I saved you a spot in line as soon as I got your message. Come on up." Yes, it was a bold-faced lie that she had messaged him, but did she really want to stand in line that long? Especially if she was behind some basic b-tches? If she accepted, then he would start talking with her, and if she told him to go away? well, he wasn't particularly worried, not many people were paying attention anyway.

Wearing: a Rainy Autumn day «» Company: Raven-haired Stranger? «» Location: The Moonbucks Cafe «» Money:$20 «» Relationship Status: Single

Val had grown to be tolerant of the monotonous. Just a little aftereffect of being raised in an abusive home with a witch of a mother. Every day in her childhood was the definition of tedium. So waiting in a little quaint coffee shop nestled in a cozy town was okay for the pink-haired woman. Who didn’t to be at the front of a massive line, especially on dreary days like this one? People swarming in numbers from off the wet streets in a small attempt to get warm enough to be able to go about more of this rainy day. She just wasn’t in a rush to go sooner that she had to.

Val just stood behind two gossiping girls--around schooling age. It was really hard to tell..It has been so long since she was school and even then. But what Val knew from her limited knowledge of movies and television, the two fit the description. Talking about subjects from the cafe’s choices of melancholy indie music played over the speakers and whispering about others. The amentur witch tried to hum their hormonal conversation away, as she scanned the chalkboard menu above the ordering counter. Maybe I should get cake and coffee, this time?

This is when out of nowhere Vasilisa heard a man’s voice say, “Hey, I saved you a spot in line as soon as I got your message,” She turned her full attention from the menu to whomever say those words. Her eyes found that person. It belongs to an interesting looking man with a lanky stature. He wore all black. His raven-hair was shaved to one side of his head, leaving the other side long enough to cover his left eye. And he had a sun tattoo on his neck. However, the most compelling thing about him was he looking at her straight in her face and lying. Not lying to her. But for her with every other patron in the shop. “Come on up,“ he said with an enthusiastic tone in his voice like she was a friend of his, or better yet a romantic partner. From the outside, they could be involved in a relationship of some sort. She wasn’t dressed like the girls in front of her. She had pink hair, gauges and various other piercings including a septum piercing ,was wearing black outfit today . Even she had some ink underneath these clothes.

But what did he want? Val wasn’t naive about the world as she used to be. Very few people were nice and this was so small to be nice about. He definitely wanted something from his selfless act. Yet, she was intrigued what if she turned him away or told him that she didn’t have a phone. Which was the truth, by the way. It would be fun to test out his kindness. So the witch did, “But I misplaced my phone this morning?” she smiled, tilting her head to the side. “You must be the luckiest man alive to find me,” Val added in waiting for a rebuttal of words as she ushered herself up and beside the man.

» Out of Cigarettes (O.O.C): Isa will have to do better if he wants Vasilisa's attention. lol! Especially since she has never been attract or been with a guy before (if he interested in her). She only (maybe been with one another person in her life and it was with a girl.

For a moment he thought she was just going to turn him down and they would go about their business as if nothing had happened. But at the same time as she was denying his statements, she took the offered spot in line. "Call it a psychic premonition then, or whatever you will, I was just making up an excuse for you." If she was so willing to destroy his story, then he would just play it straight with her. "It would seem I am pretty damn lucky. For a sec there I thought you were going to outright turn me down. Glad you changed your mind." Maybe a few decades ago he would have found her choice of words ironic, but these days he didn't care that much. No, he was not the luckiest person alive, for he was not alive, that would make him a fairly fortunate undead, perhaps? The chattering girls gave him a glare, but he simply returned a cold look, and soon they went back to their own business. "My name is Isa, by the way. Might help the charade if you actually knew my name." He didn't press her to give her name, wasn't really his decision to make. Now that she was nearer, he gave her a look over, noting the piercings and black attire, a casual observer might actually believe that they knew each other. "Nice rain we are having, isn't it? Not made of acid or blood or frogs or anything. Just plain old water, pure until it hits the ground." Likely there was a fair percentage of the population that was not enjoying all of this rain, but no point in bringing up the negative aspects of something, that didn't benefit anyone at all. "Oh, you don't have to keep talking to me or anything. You have already achieved an advanced place in line, so I would understand if you left it at that. However, I was considering paying for your order, so it might be to your advantage to hang out with me some. Either way." He might have presented as a creeper, acting like he knew her when he didn't, but at least he was willing to play nice. Truth be told, he wouldn't do anything overtly risqué unless she wanted him to. Hell, he might even find that she was a good person for Emi to get to know, then he would introduce them. Once they were Emi's friend, they were 100% off the dating market.

"Night never ending
The weapons we bring are our souls
You know, You know
You know what it means to feel real
So rise up, claim the sky
We fight, We fight
Night never ending."

Drizyrr Zaulyl

How he wished he could have said the same thing about his upbringing, but venturing out on one's own there meant death. "At least it sounds like you had fun. I'm a bit jealous, frankly." Nope, he wasn't going to elaborate on that, no need in mentioning driders or ropers or any of those sorts. Hell, the Underdark wasn't a place you ventured into alone even if you were an adult with ample military training. The cities were a little better: you only had to worry about getting run over by a nobleman or being assassinated. He merely nodded at the invitation to ask questions if he desired. He had sort of assumed that, but it was nice to get confirmation. Though he was slightly nervous about what sort of questions the boy would ask and how he could best avoid giving out distasteful answers. It wasn't going to be easy, as most everything was distasteful, but he had done enough politicking to survive, so he could find his way around this. As if by luck, he received further proof that he could politick well enough, by way of Ayluin not picking up on his reluctance to head to the library. Who knew that applying cold reason to a situation could hide away some emotional/personal qualms.

He gave a faint smile as Ayluin scurried to catch up to him, then slowed to match pace: ah the vivacity of youth, he could barely remember when he still had that. "I'm fine, really. Just old. It's mostly just arthritis mixed in with old injuries. Nothing serious, but the rain doesn't help. It will work itself out in a while." And in fact by the time they left the park, he was walking normally once more. Even without his piwafwi, once his body had worked itself out, he moved silently and naturally kept to the darker parts of the sidewalk, subconsciously trying to blend in as much as possible. At least no one ran into him, he was still nimble enough to dodge them.

Finally arriving at the cafe, he had to blink several times and shield his eyes against the brightness of the place. Why did people work so hard to blind themselves so badly? Or was he really just that sensitive? Once his eyes had had a chance to adjust as well as they were able, he looked towards the counter to figure out what he was going to get. Even if he couldn't read the signs, at least he could see the objects and figure them out that way. His eyes froze upon one sign though: it had a little drawing of an orange and was placed behind the muffins. Were orange muffins really a thing? If they were, he was going to have to get them more often. And see if Ceres knew how to make them. And learn to make them himself. Yes please oranges anyway he could get them please. "Oh, I'll pay for you, long as you don't purchase the whole place. I'm not exactly rich after all." Not like the families he was in used to be, at least.

"Long was the hour for the valiant knight that would ne'er be sick or slain
Lonely the bower in the candle light with neither kith nor kin
Storm clouds over the full moon raced, as he swung to the dapple grey
And man and horse to the westward faced on the eve of an All Saints' Day.

He's laid his hand on his hunting horn and with his dying breath
Has blown a blast to the blazing morn that would rouse the angel of death
High in the cusp of the starry night he heard his grey hawk mew
As out of the misty morning light his ghostly greyhounds flew.

Waillee waillee my noble lord who wakes me from my rest
There's none can heal the wounds of time that lie bloody on your breast"

“Oh, I didn’t realize that I was in the presence of a mystic.” Val smiled as they both waited in line together he to her left and she to his right. The man certainly sounded ready to drop the charade after her little sabotage by his response. However, he then continued on with the conversation to how lucky he was from the fact that she accepted his strange offer. A smirk graced her face. “You aren't not that lucky.” She injected into his little moment of self-gratification. It was nothing more than her curiosity getting the better of her, she wanted to say. But she didn’t feel the urgency to explain that to Isa--as the stranger introduced himself after turning to stare coldly at the two adolescents girls for a minute before turning around to face her around once more. They must’ve done something to piss him off or he was just a c**k. Maybe Isa’s a little of both.

“I believe they have a crush on you, just so you know from a female perspective.” Val said as her eyes scanned the menu again , while Isa drove the conversation into more small talk. This time about the delightful rain. Oh, a gift of Mother Earth.“I actually have money to pay for myself,” the pink haired beauty said, rejecting Isa’s second offer completely. His kindness was too good and his intention was still unclear……

“Welcome to Moonbucks. What can I get you guys on this lovely day?” A red-haired barista asked the pair as they finally made it up to the counter. She clearly thought like everybody else, they were a couple.

“ I’ll have a large black coffee with a bit of cream and a slice of cheesecake. Val written on the cup.” The witch said to the girl behind the counter, emphasizing the ‘I’ in her request.

He quirked an eyebrow when she suggested that the girls had a crush on him. "I thought they were just annoyed I let you get in front of me in line. Oh well. Better luck next time on my part I suppose." She could take that however she wanted, but for him it meant he hoped that next time the girls checking him out would be more appealing. Once they were at the counter, he of course let her order first, then before she could ask for the total, he interjected, "I'm covering for her." He slid his way up to the counter and put his order in as well: couple of cookies, a cupcake, and a muffin to go. At the last moment he added a small tea to his order, just to annoy Pinky more by having an excuse to hang around a little longer. The cashier rung everything up and he covered the bill. "You can pick out a table, I'll bring everything over when it is ready." Whether she did as he suggested or not, he waited for the order to be ready before collecting it all and heading to a table: either the one she picked if she had, or one that was convenient if she hadn't picked one. Once settled, he began talking to her without directly looking her way at first, "I'm surprised," at which point he raised his focus to look her in the eyes, "you haven't asked me why I picked you out or why I am being sweet. Are you used to this sort of treatment?" She had been enjoying messing with him, so he might potentially do the same with her: he wasn't about to answer those questions, at least not unless she directly asked him herself. If she didn't want to know why he picked her, then he wasn't about to give up the info. He took a sip of tea, not seeming to mind how hot it was. For that matter, one might have noticed that he only ever bothered to breathe when he was about to say something. Or maybe he was just incredibly subtle at breathing, who knows?
