"My baby boy!"

The sobbing woman in the doorway of the small house in Cherrygrove City brought her hand in front of her face, tears streaming down her cheeks as if she were at a funeral. Heck, she'd might as well have been, letting her sweet, innocent child run off into that unforgiving world all by himself.

Scarlet and Cindy, however, weren't anywhere near as sad as that woman. In fact, the expression on the teenager's face was expressed annoyance at its best. Arms were locked to his side, eyelids were lowered halfway, his jaw was clenched. The crimson tint in his cheek almost matched the spiky red hair sitting atop his head.

The tiny little cyndaquil standing to the future trainer's side was standing on her hind legs. She folded her arms and let out a huff, which seemed to have the bonus effect of making the formerly nonexistent quills on her back flare out, like a patch of blazing grass.

"Y-You two be careful! There are horrible pokemon out there who want nothing more than to hurt you for walking in grass!"

If Scarlet could've, he most definitely would've driven the palm of his hand into his face. But his mom would probably make him stay home, what with the grievous brain injury she'd believe he'd incurred upon himself.

"We'll be fine, Mother. I promise, we'll come back in one piece." Scarlet cringed when Mom responded with a wail.

"SO DO MOST CORPSES. NOW YOU TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF." The woman fought back tears. Her boy, her one and only child, about to go into a world filled with Zubat and Beedril and all other sorts of flying animals with a penchant for stabbing kids. She reached out and started fixing Scarlet's hair. So messy. "Okay... Now what do you do if you see a wild Steelix coming for you?"

Scarlet raised an eyebrow. "Is that even-"

He was cut off by a bark from Cindy, whose quills flared up again. She spit out an adorable little wisp of flame from her snout. The answer was clear: Set the giant metal rock monster on fire.

It was apparently enough for Mom. "Okay... Have fun... And catch lots of pokemon..."

"Wh-what the! You can't dodge my attacks!" Apparently this was the first time one of his attacks hadn't connected and apparently he always thought they would. A little frazzled Evan seemed to lose his beginners confidence not sure what to do now. "Um, oh geez, um Mittens use Fake Out again!" The cat pokemon just cast an annoyed glance back at her trainer. "Oh! You can't use Fake Out oh I am so stupid! I should never have become a trainer!"

"Hey, hey calm down its ok! Just because your attack missed doesn't mean that mine can't miss to! Your pokemon can avoid attacks to you know." Robin was kinda freaking out by the kids anger at himself. "Really its ok, why don't we just continue with the battle all right?" Robin and Raz shared a concerned look before Robin shrugged and decided that maybe Raz wasn't the best opponent for Evan wasn't really able to handle Raz's extra experience, and an attack would probably be out of the question. "Raz lets switch out." Robin recalled him into his parkball and pulling out Ace's. "Maybe it would be better if you challanged Ace?" Robin offered as she released her new Chimchar.

When Ace was released he was still asleep and it took him a moment to realize that he was outside of his pokeball again. Waking up the Chimchar yawned and glanced back at Robin with a somewhat annoyed look on his face before getting up and dusting his fur off. The Chimchars stance was relaxed as he faced off against what looked like a Glameow and a rookie trainer? Oh boy this was gunna be fun.

"Your switching out on me? Well, I guess, um, Glameow use your Scratch again! This time make sure it hits!" Evan seemed to gain a little more of his confidence back when he saw that Robin's Chimchar was a lot lower level then Raz. Meowing the catty pokemon took off towards Ace in a sort of direct attack on him.

Was this a joke or something? A direct attack like that wasn't going to work on him. Ace yawned as he easily sidestepped the Glameow. He had been around Professor Rowans lab annoying all the pokemon around there for four years. Just because he was still a Chimchar didn't mean he didn't know what he was doing.

"What missed again! Oh! Umm, Glameow don't let up keep trying to Scratch that Chimchar!" The cat pokemon nodded and turning around it took off towards the chimp pokemon again its claws raised once more.

"Ace counter with Ember." Robin ordered from the side. Sure she didn't want her pokemon to get hurt but hey she wanted to attack back!

Counter with Ember? He could do that, maybe, he usually dodged attacks or just knocked them out right from the start. Ace didn't usually get into long winded battles. Nodding Ace decided to trust Robin and standing his ground he took a breath into his body and blasted the Glameow with his Ember as he felt the catty pokemons claws dig into him.

After an exchange of Pounds and Scratches, Kilik could easily tell that both fighters were getting worn down. But he wasn't about to turn in and fold the match to this Barry kid. "Chimchar, finish it off with a Brick Break!" With his superior strength, and attacks, this should be the final blow! The monkey didn't even bother distancing himself to prepare the attack. Such an act could leave open a possibility of him missing! He reared his fist back and slammed a solid punch straight into the Piplup's face. That was it. The moment he felt his fist connect, he knew that Piplup was down. "Yes!" Kilik cheered, pumping his fist into the air.

"D'wah?!" Barry looked shocked, seeing his Piplup fall to the ground practically in slow motion. "Aaalright, alright kid. You're not toooo bad. I guess your debt is wiped clean." He recalled his fallen penguin and clipped the ball back to his belt. Debt? Kilik thought, looking rather perplexed, As if you actually expected me to pay you a millon smackers. "WELP!" Barry pulled his backpack up a bit and stretched, "I'm off to Oreburgh to get myself a badge! See ya 'round, buhh..." "Kilik." "Kilik!" And with that, Barry walked away, whistling to himself.

"Not even six hours in Sinnoh," Kilik said to himself, crossing his arms, "And I already have a new rival. Am I really that standoffish?" He looked down at his Chimchar, who was panting heavily. Yet he lifted his arms in triumph, pounding his chest. "Oohoohohoh!" He cried, stamping his feet as well. Victory was his! All challengers would fall to him! As Kilik was about to recall his Chimchar to take it to the Pokemon Center, he snapped his fingers. "Just a sec," he opened up his side bag and pulled out a purple bottle. "C'mere," he knelt down by Chimchar, "Close your eyes. This might sting a little but it'll heal up your damage." He squeezed the nozzle and used up the Potion to save himself some time. Shuddering a bit, as the Potion was pretty cold, Chimchar looked right as rain afterward. Good thinking on Kilik's part! That trainer must be one of the most prepared in the world. He came with a brand new move for him, as well as something to heal him with after his very first battle! Maybe this guy wasn't so bad after all. Chimchar hopped up to his trainer's shoulder, his foot pressing down on Treecko's Pokeball on his way up. She popped out a few moments later, yawning. That monkey woke her up, and now he was sitting on her favorite spot! She clammered up to Kilik's other shoulder and pouted. If that Chimchar wanted to throw hands, she'd throw hands, by golly!

"Okay, you two," Kilik said, looking at the two of them, "You're gonna have to settle down. I'm not gonna go on this journey with you two hating each other. Understood?" Of course she understood. Treecko would never do anything to upset Kilik. Yeah, yeah. Don't hate the green thing. Of course. "Alright, so here we go!" He pulled off his backpack and set it on the ground, assembling the Mach Bike that he never seemed to ride. Rydel made the best, and fastest, bikes in the world. Sure, the Cerulean Shop may have more branches. Maybe Sinnoh might even have a bike shop - but no bike in the world compares to Rydel's Mach Bike. Kilik hopped on and off he flew towards Jubilife, barely having to pedal at all.

Riza and Crenu had started to make their way out of Vermilion City, but as they approached the north exit, Riza suddenly changed her mind and ran back towards town, suddenly remembering something from her battle earlier but not before telling Shiro to go on ahead, as she'd catch up to him sooner or later. She still wasn't overly familiar with Vermilion's layout and she got turned around a few times, but she did eventually manage to find her way to the Pokemart. Once inside, she began to browse the aisles, mostly certain of what she was looking for. She'd taken her notebook out of her bag and was checking it over, as she'd written down moves that would be good for her Pokemon. It didn't take her long to find what she was looking for, and she smiled to herself as she picked up an orangey-brown disc from the counter. 'I know I said this would be good for Akima, but I think Diemia might need it more...' She had enough money to buy two of them, but she wasn't sure if that's what she wanted to do or not. She also wanted to pick up a certain TM for Yula, but the Kiria's moves weren't exactly lacking.

She did finally decide to get two of the same discs for her Pokemon, as it would leave her with some money for now. She paid at the front counter, a little sad to part with all of her winnings from her match with Surge and then some, but she figured it would be very worthwhile. "Diemia only has like two good attack moves, so she really needs this," the raven haired girl told herself as she exited the store and headed back up towards the north exit.

Katie didn't even have to tell Kord to dodge the Sonic Boom from the Buizel, which it had launched by leaping into the air and swinging its twin tails. The attack had sailed through the air but the Elekid had no troubles dodging it, even though both he and Katie knew it was a bit more experienced than the he was. The Buizel was fast too, something it demonstrated after it made a solid landing, and it sped forward with a Quick Attack.

"Kord, you use Quick Attack too," Katie called, her gaze set on the water-type. 'If it makes contact with Kord, there's a good chance we'll paralyze it.' The two speedy Pokemon met in the center of the battlefield, but neither seemed able to actually hit the other. "Okay Kord, try a Thundershock," Katie called, knowing that one or two of these would make for a quick match. The Elekid growled and began to whirl his arms around, generating a bolt of electricity which he quickly fired off at the Buizel.

"Bui bui!" the weasel seemed to laugh as it sprinted out of the way, and for a moment it seemed to consider fleeing the battle entirely. But something made him change his mind, and instead he spun around, firing off a strong Water Gun at his target.

Kasiya sighed and placed her hands on her hips as she watched the Piplup pout, not really sure why he was so upset after only trying twice. "That's what practice is for, Al," she called out to him, but her cheerful tone only seemed to bring the Penguin down even further. "Oh dear." She knelt down and dug through her bag once again, bringing up a container of Pokemon food. She gave it a shake, noting that it was only about a third of the way full, and she removed the lid. This was what was left of the Pokemon food she'd gotten from Keegan's mom when they were in Lavaridge Town, after she'd received Nova's egg. "Hey, are you hungry?" she asked, carrying the container of food over to the Pokemon. Alphonse looked up at her, and shook his head. Well, maybe he was a little hungry, but he didn't feel that two solid failures had earned him anything, especially not food.

"Oh, come on, don't be like that," Kasiya said, sighing again. This little guy really was starting to remind her of Keegan. "Look, if you're hungry, you might have a hard time concentrating. Have a few bites to eat and then try again, okay?" She smiled at the Piplup as he turned to look at her again, and she took a small handful of the Pokemon food and held it out to him. "This stuff was made by people who really know what they're doing, so you can bet it'll perk you right up." Alphonse couldn't help but catch the scent of the food his trainer was holding out to him, and he moved a little closer, sniffing intently. It did smell pretty good, and his belly was rumbling a little. Perhaps a little nibble wouldn't hurt.

Alphonse hesitated before taking some from Kasiya's hand, though he turned his back to her again as he nibbled at it. She was right; it really was good! He pivoted back and ate a few more pieces, deciding this would be good for now. He chirped before looking back over at that pesky rock - this time he'd blast it for sure! Concentrating hard, the little flipper bird summoned a glowing ball of water between his flippers, and with a loud cry he sent it forward. There was definitely more to it this time, as it easily covered the distance between him and his target, and just like that, he'd scored a direct hit on the rock, sending droplets of water shimmering in all directions. "There, see? I knew it would help!" Kasiya cheered, having never seen a more beautiful Water Pulse in her life.

"Thank you, Arturo," Karrigan said politely as the food was laid out before them. "Everything looks delicious." Zaira mewed in anxious agreement, and Karrigan gave the Shinx a few links of sausage before serving herself. Bill had been quite truthful about Arturo's ability to cook, for everything really was delicious, and Karrigan was pleased that her sense of smell had not mislead her. She was hungrier than she had realized, as it had been quite some time since the last time she had a decent meal. Not since before Isabelle, Tyra and I went our own separate ways, she thought, spearing a juicy piece of watermelon with her fork. She enjoyed her meal in silence, spending most of it in silent contemplation of where her friends were and what they might be doing now. I just hope they've kept out of trouble.

Alphonse let out a triumphant cheer and hopped up and down excitedly when he saw that his attack had been successful, and he pointed at the rock with his flipper and chirped noisily, which Kasiya thought to mean "in your face, rock!", or something to that effect. The victory celebration wouldn't last very long, however, as a lumpy, brown Pokemon emerged from the rock Alphonse had been practicing on, its eyes wide with both surprise and confusion. "Oh, I think that's a Bidoof, isn't it?" Kasiya asked, and Al nodded. "I guess it was sleeping behind that rock, and you got it all wet."

"Bii-doof," it sad, its tone somewhat annoyed. Its eyes were narrowed and it appeared to be angry at Alphonse, probably for soaking it. It growled again, looking as though it wanted to fight.

"Heh, this is perfect," Kasiya laughed, clapping her hands together. "It's time for your first battle, Al!"

"Pip!" cheered the Penguin, clapping his flippers together much like Kasiya had done. Bring it on, he was ready!

"Alright! Start off with your Agility," she said. "You'll be running circles around that thing in no time!" Liking the sound of that, Alphonse allowed his body to relax a bit before he began to stretch, feeling looser and limber and eager for a fight. The Bidoof just watched him with a blank expression before deciding to attack, and it charged in with a Tackle. Apparently, it didn't like being called a 'thing'. Low-level battling, you gotta love it, Kasiya thought, overcome with feelings of nostalgia. "You can dodge that, Al!"

Why yes, yes he could dodge it! With light and graceful steps, the Piplup easily sidestepped the attacking Bidoof, having decided that he had no intentions of being hit by the Bidoof. The Plump Mouse Pokemon seemed even more annoyed by the fact that his attack had missed, and he wheeled around before coming back for another pass. "It's more agile than it looks," Kasiya commented offhandedly.

No, not again! Jaeshan thought, already knowing what was coming as the Victreebel got into position. There wasn't anything he could have had Metang do to dodge the oncoming Sucker Punch, and he watched helplessly as the vine-like appendage slammed into the Iron Claw Pokemon, sending him spiraling to the ground, a four-foot crater forming at the place of impact. Jaeshan closed his eyes and shook his head, recalling the fainted Pokemon back into his Pokeball. I'd like to say that was a good effort, but it wasn't. Erika totally wiped the floor with us that first round... He opened his eyes and looked over at the Gym Leader, fairly certain that her passive expression had changed to one of disappointment. He couldn't blame her though, he was disappointed with that first round as well.

"Let's see how she likes this one," he grumbled, snatching Blaziken's Pokeball from his belt and hurling onto the field. The Blaze Pokemon appeared in a bright flash of white light, her wrists already blazing with intense flames. "Time to make a comeback," he announced, nodding to his rising-star. "Blaze Kick, let's go!" Blaziken let out a loud roar and sprang into action, her powerful legs covering a large portion of the battlefield with a single leap. Her right leg became wreathed in flames as she lashed out with the powerful, fiery kick attack, hoping to make her trainer proud.
=-=-=-=-=

All that training we did is really paying off, Erika thought to herself as she watched Jaeshan recall his fallen Metang. Sucker Punch was easily the newest move in her Victreebel's arsenal and it had taken a lot of work to get it to the point it was now. She was about to make a comment about her next opponent being more of a challenge when she saw the Blaziken appear opposite her Victreebel, and she gasped and covered her mouth with her hands. Despite her ability to overcome Fire-types, she still didn't particularly care for them, and anytime a Fire-type was released inside her gym, she always worried for the safety of her beloved greenhouse.

She cringed as the flaming kick connected heavily with her Victreebel, yet somehow the Flycatcher wasn't down for the count yet. She knew the next turn would end it though, no matter what she did, so she had to leave a mark before her Pokemon was taken out. "Victreebel, Toxic, now!" she called, knowing this would severely weaken the Blaziken over a short period of time, and improve her chances of defending her gym. The Flycatcher Pokemon screeched weakly and quickly opened his mouth once more, sending out a wide spray of acrid, purple sludge. It seemed that Victreebel also knew his role in this match was about finished, as well.

Sam sighed with relief. They had been crawling for awhile, when Sam decided to pop up and check on where they were. She could see the towers of Ecruteak not too far away from where they were, she could even see the little building that connected the city to Route 38. They were one step closer to Goldenrod, where Kya could see her family and Sam could head on to the next gym, though she still was not entirely certain whether she wanted to go to Azalea or Violet. She was pretty sure Azalea was the way to go, since even though Bugsy would probably have some Grass moves up his sleeve that would hurt Star, Falkner's Flying moves would be super-effective against Miles AND Star's Ground moves would miss. So, as they crawled nearer to their destination, Sam was trying to devise a strategy in her head about how she would go about beating the Bug-type Gym Leader. She couldn't come up with much ideas except hammer his Pokemon into the ground.

"Sam..." Sam looked back at Kya, who was staring at her hands.

"Yeah?"

"Got any Band-Aids?" Sam looked at Kya's hands, which were covered in blood and stickers. Sam nodded and pulled her pack around, drawing out some Neosporin and some bandages. She sat cross-legged, and swiftly pulled each barbed seed pod from Kya's hands. She winced each time new blood poured forth. Once Sam was finished with both hands, she thouroughly doused both with the Neosporin, then covered her hands in Band-Aids. She looked in Kya's face and grinned.

"Best I could do in the circumstances. The bleeding should stop by the time we reach the Pokemon Center in Ecruteak. Nurse Joy can do a better job of wrapping your hands." Sam glanced to her own hands, which were mercifully free of stickers, then to her knees, which were merely scraped up. She had avoided the worst of the thorny bushes by risking being seen. They continued crawling, and gradually Sam rose up from the bushes and made a mad dash for the little building only yards away. She entered the building and watched as Kya stayed low until she was practically at the doorway. As they entered in, they looked back to where they had come from, and then looked at each other. They both snickered.

"Wow, were we really that scared of other Pokemon Trainers?"

"I guess...I feel silly now."

"Join the club! Come on, let's head to the Pokemon Center to fix up these hands."

They wandered through the city, Sam staying silent while admiring the two towers. She knew the legends surrounding them, and she pondered as to whether Entei, Raikou, and Suicune really haunted the Burned Tower, or if the mythical rainbow bird Ho-Oh indeed existed and used to roost at the top of the Bell Tower. She also wondered why the tower had two different names, the Tin Tower and the Bell Tower. Most people referred to it as the Tin Tower still, but Brynn had told her that recently the Kimono Girls had insisted upon naming it the Bell Tower. Sam shook her head at the thoughts. Nothing would come of them that could be useful to her, and so she went back to her strategy against Bugsy. Before long, they had found the Pokemon Center, it's traditional red roof darker to match the rest of the city. As they entered through the automatic doors, Sam proceeded to the bank of video phones to call her parents, knowing they would want an update. She knew eventually she wouldn't be able to keep calling them, but for now she would cling to this little lifeline. As the call connected, she made sure Kya received the medical attention she needed. Sam glanced back to the screen and saw her mom's face, and she giggled. Her mom's hair was sticking up at odd angles, paint on her face. "Mom....?"

"Oh hi sweetie! Your father brought one of his friends over, and he has a Smeargle! It is a wonderful painter, though a bit messy! Very friendly too! So how are you? How are your adorable pokemon?"

"We arrived in Ecruteak a few minutes ago, my friend Kya is just getting her hand fixed up. Star, Miles, and Devlin are doing good, they each got to battle a little earlier with Kya's pokemon. We won, which was nice, I think Devlin is becoming stronger. Just thought I'd check in with you."

"Well thanks hon! Can I say hi to Kya?" Sam glanced away, not too keen on the idea, but she couldn't think of a plausible reason to say no, especially since Kya was wandering over already.

"Yeah sure here." Sam moved aside, and whispered to Kya, "My mom wants to talk with you." Sam rolled her eyes hugely, emphasizing her mom's eccentricity. Kya nodded, understanding.

"Hi Sam's mom!" she said enthusiastically.

"Oh please, call me Traci! So I hear you've been traveling with my little Goose! You even battled her! Though I heard Sam won that...What type of Pokemon do you have?"

"A Gible, a Shuckle, and an Aipom, ma'am."

"Call me Traci! A Gible? I don't believe I have heard of those before! Of course, we have plenty of Shuckle around Cianwood. Sam has told you the story I'm sure. She just loves telling folklore. Oh my dear! What happened to your hand?!"

"Oh, I just cut it on some thorns..."

"Thorns?! What were you doing in thorns?! Sam, what is going on? You hate spikey things! Are you abusing your friend?" Sam groaned loudly.

Zolin popped out of his pokeball, his bone club flying out of his hand with a slight glow as it flew towards the Drowzee. It smacked the Drowzee on it's forehead, disrupting it's psychic energy. The Drowzee directed it's attention towards Zolin. It lowered it's head and began to run towards Zolin, intending to Headbutt the little Cubone across the field. Eztli recalled Zolin's moveset, and tilted her head slightly.

"Zolin, use Headbutt as well." Zolin nodded, and lowered his head, matching the Drowzee's position, then ran full speed at the Hypnosis pokemon. When they collided, Zolin's skull helmet seemed to shield him from the worst of the damage. "Scott, move away from the battle. Don't want any collateral damage." Scott eyed the Cubone and Drowzee, who were both rubbing their heads, then slowly backed away, creeping towards where Eztli was standing. He hid slightly behind her.

"I've never actually seen a wild Pokemon battle..." he muttered. "Why do Pokemon need Trainers if they battle like this on their own?" Eztli didn't glance at the young boy.

"Because we provide them with companionship and help them be better Pokemon...and in turn, they teach us to appreciate the world," Eztli told Scott. She turned her attention back to the battle at hand. The Drowzee's eyes were glowing red, and Eztli recognized the aura surrounding it. Hypnosis..."Zolin, use Bone Club again! Hit it's forehead so it can't put you to sleep." Zolin leaped forward, and smacked the Drowzee on the head, disrupting it's concentration. The Drowzee angrily changed it's aura to a blue color, and launched glowing rings at Zolin. Zolin attempted to dodge, but could not escape the rings. Eztli watched passively as Zolin's bone was yanked from his grasp, and held out of reach, effectively Disabling the use of Bone Club. Zolin stared at his empty hand, then at the bone held much too high above his head. He was bewildered by the sudden sense of loss he felt when he no longer held his bone. He started to moan, an eerie sound when it rattled his helmet. Eztli felt the hairs on the back of her neck stand straight up. "Zolin..." she cautioned, which seemed to have a detrimental effect as Zolin suddenly began to wail loudly. Even the Drowzee was taken aback as it held it's head in pain and fear. Scott covered his ears.

"Shut up, shut up, shut up, shut up, SHUT IT UP! EZTLI MAKE IT SHUT UP!" Eztli ran over to the crying Cubone, the volume increasing and the skull rattling creepily. She touched the skull. Zolin suddenly stopped dead mid-wail, then quickly whipped his tail across Eztli's face. Eztli took her hand away, and felt her face. There was no blood. Eztli narrowed her eyes.

"Zolin, use Headbutt." There was no anger in her voice, only a hint of disappointment. Zolin turned away, and refused. Eztli stood, and walked away. "Fine. Learn from your mistakes then," she said, gesturing to the recovering Drowzee. It was already preparing it's next attack. Eztli remained silent and cold as Zolin panicked, still refusing to use Headbutt, and instead whipped his tail around towards the Drowzee's face, distracting it from defending itself. However it was all for naught, as the Drowzee loosed a Hypnosis, it's arms swirling in strange signs as Zolin fell over in sleep. Eztli didn't react. Scott watched bewildered.

"Do something Eztli! Zolin will be hurt!"

"No. Zolin chose to learn on his own, and I shall let him."

"Eztli!"

"No, Scott. He disobeyed, and he is paying the price." Eztli could hear how cold her words sounded, but she didn't mean any malice behind them. She just wanted Zolin to understand that he wasn't alone anymore.

Riza wasn't at all surprised to find that Shiro was nowhere in sight once she re-entered route 6, but she hadn't expected him to wait around for her. He seemed very quiet and withdrawn, more so than usual, anyway, after his training match with Ken, and she hoped he wasn't feeling too down about it. 'After all, I think Ken was just trying to show him what Jaden was trying to show me, that we've still got a ways to go as trainers and coordinators if we want to start winning competitions.' She had long since stopped feeling sorry for herself and instead had decided to plan out future combinations and appeals for her Pokemon. She figured that Akima and Yula would be her main Pokemon for appeals, as both had a wide variety of attacks to use, the Kirlia in particular. She knew her tough little Corphish would make a great battler once she caught up to the other Pokemon, and gained a few more moves, but she was sure that teaching Diemia to be elegant would be quite the challenge. Then there were Eris and Plua, two Pokemon that excelled in agility and speed, and she knew they both had potential in the contest domain, but both would need a lot more work before they saw their first competition. 'I guess I'm sticking with Akima and Yula for now,' she thought, smiling to herself.

She was so lost in her own thoughts that at first Riza didn't even notice that a kid had started talking to her, and even following her when she didn't respond right away. It wasn't until he hollered loudly and ran out in front of her that she realized he was there, and she put her hands on her hips and glared at the boy. "What do you want?"

"I've been trying to get your attention for like twenty minutes now," he shouted, obviously exaggerating a little. Calling him a kid was probably an exaggeration as well, as he was probably only a year younger than Riza was, but he was definitely shorter. He pointed at the poke balls nestled on her belt. "You're a trainer right? We should have a battle!"

"Sorry, I was lost in thought," she said, shrugging. But a battle did seem like a good idea, especially after all the combinations she'd been thinking of. "How many Pokemon each?"

"Let's do a full battle!" he shouted, already holding up his first poke ball. He wore baggy cargo pants and a blue and black striped polo shirt, and dirty, well-worn sneakers. He was kinda cute, except for the fact that his hair looked as though he hadn't cut it in years, and it stuck up in odd places.

"A full battle? What's that?"

"Wait what, you don't know what a full battle is? It's when both trainers use all six of their Pokemon," the boy explained. "Oh yeah, I'm Devon, by the way."

"I'm Riza. A full battle sounds like fun, but I only have five Pokemon," she said. "And, I'm trying to get to Cerulean City some time this week, so how about we just make it four, that way we each have at least one healthy Pokemon left." Devon seemed to agree with that, and he quickly sent out his first Pokemon, a Meowth. Riza quickly grabbed for Akima's poke ball,
but realized that she needed to give the others a turn too, and instead sent out Eris.

The Buizel's Water Gun had been shot off so fast that neither Katie nor Kord saw it in time to even think about dodging, and the Elekid cried out as he was suddenly drenched by cold water. To add insult to injury, the Buizel had hit him while dodging his attack! "Wow, it's good," Katie commented, wondering if perhaps she should try to capture it or not. She had always liked Buizel, as they were cute and quite speedy, too, and this one seemed to be quite spunky. "Kord, let's try your Cross Chop on it," she said finally, wondering if Kord could keep up with the swift little weasel.

The Buizel seemed to be wondering the same thing as the Elekid came rushing towards it, and he skillfully used a Quick Attack to dash out of the way of Kord's attack. He then did a quick turn and came back, slamming into the Elekid from behind and sending him tumbling to the ground. "Get up Kord, you can take him!" Katie shouted, her gaze going back and forth between the two Pokemon. The Buizel's movements suddenly became sluggish and predictable, and as Katie watched him, a crackle of static electricity coursed over his body. "Haha! Kord's Static got him!" the orange haired girl cheered, knowing now that it would make the sea weasel Pokemon easier to defeat and capture. "We've got him now, Kord!"

"Oh wow, a Quilava!" Devon exclaimed when he saw Eris appear in front of Riza. "I haven't battled one of these before!" His Meowth let out an energetic meow, its tail wagging in anticipation.

Riza wasn't sure, but it looked to be somewhat on par with Eris level wise. "I don't think I've battled a Meowth before either," she answered, looking over at the Cat Pokemon again. 'If I remember correctly though, they're quick on their feet, but pretty fragile. Even still, we'd better be careful, I do not want to be the first one to lose a Pokemon.' She took a deep breath, deciding to be the first to attack. "Eris, let's start with Quick attack!" Eris was quite happy to be out of her poke ball again, even though she wasn't really inside for very long, and flames flared up from her head and back as she dashed forward, becoming a tan and navy blue blur.

"Oh, your Quilava is fast," Devon said, looking to his Meowth. "Fake Out, Meowth!" he called. The cat Pokemon flicked his tail and took up an offensive stance, moving forward on silent paws. For a moment it looked like he wasn't going to do anything at all, but when Eris got close to him he rose up on his hind legs and effectively sucker-punched the Quilava in the chest, knocking her off balance to the point of her being unable to move. "Now follow up with a Bite," the long-haired boy called. The Meowth let out a sharp yowl as it jumped up, taking advantage of Eris as she flinched from the Fake out. He was able to sink his teeth into her left shoulder, and the Quilava tried to cry out, but no sound came out as the wind was still knocked out of her from that hit to the chest before.

"Try a Smokescreen, quick!" Riza called, doing her best to remain calm. She hated Fake out, a lot, but could understand its usefulness. Eris wrenched herself free of the cat Pokemon's teeth and backpedaled away, flaring up her flames a bit more to create a smoky veil that began to obscure the battlefield. Riza sighed when she saw this, feeling a little safer because of it, and because she knew Eris could navigate her way through her own smoke screen without problems.

The Elekid gave a triumphant yell when he saw that his opponent had been paralyzed by his constant, lingering static electricity, and he clapped his hands, now ready to dish out some hurt. "Try a Low Kick," Katie shouted, getting a poke ball all ready to go, having decided to try and capture the Buizel as soon as it had been weakened. Kord sped forward, ready to give a little payback for being embarrassed by the weasel, but it seemed this Buizel wasn't out of tricks yet. Somehow staggering to his feet, Buizel pivoted sharply one one foot and whipped his tail around, sending a shower of golden stars forward in their wake. There was no hope for Kord to dodge the Swift, and he dropped to the ground and covered his head with his hands as he was pelted over and over again by the shimmering stars.

Katie sighed and shook her head, as this Buizel was full of surprises. But, that only fueled her desire to capture it even further. "We have barely touched it," she grumbled, looking back at Kord again. "Thundershock, once more!" Kord didn't need even a single a second to think it over as he jumped to his feet, windmilling his arms around to generate the electric attack. Paralysis seemed to get the better of Buizel this round and finally, Kord was able to score a solid and direct hit. Buizel squealed and yelped as the electricity coursed through him, and Katie figured there was no better time to catch it than right now.

She took a deep breath and threw the sphere, having come a little closer to ensure her aim wasn't off. The orangey-coloured weasel was struck in the back by the poke ball and promptly sucked in by a burst of red light, and then it fell to the ground, wriggling furiously.

"Oh, that's just great," Devon grumbled, waving his arms in front of his face to try and keep the smoke out of it. His Meowth didn't seem to like the smoky haze either as it could no longer see its fiery opponent, and it let out a sharp meow to show its displeasure with the situation. "Let's try a Fury Swipes, it can't be that hard to find your opponent in all that smoke," the long haired boy said, peering into the smoke.

Riza smirked at his comment, able to make him out on the other side of the field through the smoke, even if only just. "Eris, Smokescreen again. Let's make it so that they'll never find you." Eris gave a cry before flaring her pores once again, causing more thick, black smoke to waft up, adding even more cover to her smokey sanctuary. The Meowth and his attempted Fury Swipes never even came close to the Quilava, a fact that Eris found to be quite funny.

"It's time for an Ember attack," Riza said, enjoying this battle. Devon's commentary was kind of amusing, too. Once again, Eris' pores flared up as she used her sixth sense to reach out and pinpoint her opponent, and when she found the cat Pokemon, she let the flames fly. Riza listened intently for a sign that the Ember had hit, and when she heard the Meowth's painful screeches, she knew it had been a success, and she smiled. "Eris, you're awesome," she whispered.
* * * * *
Katie took a step towards the poke ball as it continued to rock back and forth on the ground, feeling fairly confident that between the paralysis and the Thundershock that the crafty little Buizel would be caught. This wouldn't be the case, however, as just as Katie expected the ball to come to a stop, it burst open instead, and the Buizel reappeared on the field, wearing a defiant smirk.

"Drat," Katie grumbled, both annoyed by the fact that the Buizel had escaped and that it had destroyed a poke ball in the process. Knowing that his movements would now be extremely limited, Buizel decided to stick to attacks with range, and he looked over at the orange haired girl as he swung his tail to launch a Sonic Boom at Kord. "Dodge!" Katie called, quickly preparing a second poke ball. Kord jumped back as the Sonic Boom slammed the ground right where he'd been standing, and he grinned over at the Buizel. The Buizel grinned right back at him, and it was clear that the two Pokemon had a certain degree of respect for each other.

Mitsu had seemed to calm down though her eyes were still squeezed tight. She laid in the hospital bed, sleeping softly, though there were moments where it seemed that she was floating in and out of pain. Lucario relaxed his shoulders a bit, glad to have his master resting more than suffering. However, the small, relieved smile of his soon vanished as he sensed a familiar aura rush past the center. It was his master's suitor! Lucario sighed, shaking his head. How could the boy have simply left her behind? He was clearly not worthy for his master.

Lucario fished out Sapphire's Pokeball and asked him to keep watch over their trainer. It was imperative that she stayed safe. The Steel Pokemon ran outside, catching up to Kilik is no time. "You dare leave her behind?" he accused glaring at the boy.
PostPosted: Mon May 31, 2010 8:46 pm

The boy slammed on his breaks the moment Lucario showed up in front of him. Both Chimchar and Treecko nearly flew off of their trainer's shoulders. The gecko managed to hold on tightly thanks to her gecko grip. However, she saw that Chimchar wasn't nearly as lucky. The simian Pokemon grabbed on Kilik's sleeve as he flew forward and swung back as if on a vine, crashing into his trainer's stomach. Kilik grunted and nearly lost all of his balance. Luckily, he caught himself before crashing to the ground. "Gah! What's the---?" yet his question was answered when Lucario spoke to him.

"Look," Kilik said, swiftly knocking the kick stand with his foot and hopping off the bike, "Mitsu and I have been through a lot. I'd certainly say I know way more about her than you, Lucario." He kept his distance - when speaking to someone who as so formal, it was polite to do so, as taught to him by Koga. Now that he thought about it, Lucario seemed like a perfect fit for the Ninja master, despite not being a Poison-type. Man, when this kid talked...Chimchar couldn't even describe what it was like. He sure was smart and confident! Oh! Her master was getting awnry again! She had to admit that she loved when he got so smug. It reminded her of Pan. "Mitsu's had these headaches before, and they pass by rather quickly. An hour-or-so worth of a nap and she'd be good to go. Paint me how you want," Kilik shrugged, "But I'm not just leaving her behind. Mitsu's strong and can easily take care of herself. If she really, truly needed me, I would be there."

"If you're aiming for a battle, Lucario," Kilik said calmly, looking straight into the Pokemon's eyes, "I'll fight to not only defend my honor, but hers too." He grabbed up Cable's Pokeball and pressed the button, flipping it up into the air. Electabuzz burst out in a shower of lightning, staring Lucario in the face. "Your move."

"Sup girrrrl? Damn you lookin' fine!" Mazarin whistled at a couple of the girls as he walked down the streets of Goldenrod City. While some blushed and took the compliments, others looked at him with disgust. "Haters gonna hate," Maz said, strutting his stuff down the main road. "Hey there, sweet cheeks. You mind tellin' me how a fine fella like myself may find the Pokethlon Dome?"

"Sure," she said, pointing up the road, "Keep going that way, to the Park. It's west of it, you can't miss it. It's huge."

"Yeah, I got somethin' pretty huge myself." He felt a slap across the face, but it didn't phase him. "Oh! That was a good one. Now try it here," he spun around and stuck his rear out towards her. She stormed off, muttering something about how all men are slimeballs. "OOOOKIE-DOKE!" He stretched and began jogging towards the Park. "If this is like some sorta sporty thing, I gotta start gettin' ready. Huphuphuphuphup," he trotted winking at a few girls as he passed. It sure seemed like ever since that incident with Sasha, however, girls seemed to turn away from his advances. That b***h musta told every chick in the world. Women work fast, I tell ya what.

Alphonse puffed up his chest as the Bidoof charged towards him once more, completely confident that there was no way this pudgy rodent could touch him. "Uh, Al, you might wanna dodge again, or prepare to counterattack, or something," Kasiya warned, but the Piplup couldn't hear her over the sound of his ego telling how awesome he was. Alphonse realized the inevitable a bit too late, and his eyes went comically wide as he was suddenly knocked over as though he were a blue and white bowling pin. The Bidoof stood up on its hind legs and made a sound that sort of sounded like a cheer, and Kasiya couldn't help but giggle. Even though she'd initially thought Bidoof was a ridiculous Pokemon, she found it to be kind of cute in its own little way. I'm so not catching one, though, she mused as an afterthought, laughing again as Alphonse got to his feet. The penguin shot his trainer a dirty look for laughing at him, and he began to chirp indignantly and flap his wings, much like a child throwing a fit. "Well, next time don't be so cocky," she told him, but Al just scoffed and looked away. "If you're finished with your little tantrum now, how about you give your Pound attack a try?" she asked, hoping that her memory was correct.

Alphonse chirped once more and looked back at the Bidoof. It seemed to be considerably calmer now that it had landed a good, solid attack on the perpetrator that had drenched it, and it had even turned to leave the area until the Piplup came running up behind it and smacked it across the back of the head with his flipper. It was the Bidoof's turn to look surprised now, and again it turned to look at Al, its complacent expression now being replaced by one of anger. Kasiya sighed and shook her head, very certain that none of her Pokemon had ever really acted like this before. Well, Shocker used to, especially when she was a less-experienced Pikachu, but she was a special case. Kasiya smiled wistfully as she called for Alphonse to try out his Water Pulse, trying with all her willpower to keep her thoughts from straying back to the whereabouts of the electric mouse.

The universe suddenly felt all right again as Jaeshan watched Blaziken's fierce Blaze Kick connect with the Victreebel, and he smiled to himself, wishing he'd just gone with her from the start. Her Fighting-type traits would have rendered Sucker Punch very ineffective as she resisted Dark-type moves as well as Grass-types, and it would have taken very few Fire-type attacks to bring down the Flycatcher. He knew Erika's Pokemon wouldn't be that simple, though, and this would prove to be the case as Victreebel launched a nasty Toxic attack for what would most likely be its last hurrah. Jaeshan hoped Blaziken would be able to evade it, but this wasn't the case as the Toxic spray covered far too much area to safely avoid. Blaziken suddenly felt as though she'd contracted a terrible stomach flu and she lurched forward a bit before catching herself. It would take time for the poison to worsen, and even she knew she was in for it in the coming rounds. Great, now Blaziken's badly poisoned, the blonde trainer thought, glancing at Erika.

Jaeshan wasn't sure, but he thought the gym leader looked a tad uneasy now that Blaziken was out on the field, and at first he thought that perhaps it was just because the Fire-type posed quite a threat to her Pokemon, but the more he watched her, the more he began to realize that it seemed to extend past Blaziken's presence. "Blaziken, finish it with a Quick Attack," Jaeshan said, his tone a lot quieter than it had been when he'd ordered the Blaze Kick. Nodding, Blaziken sped forward, her movements nearly invisible as she prepared to bring down the Victreebel and even the score.
=-=-=-=-=

Seeing that the Toxic had taken effect on Blaziken made it easier to see Victreebel get taken down by the Blaze Pokemon's next attack, and as Erika returned the Flycatcher to his Pokeball, she couldn't help but notice that the challenger was watching her intently. For a moment, this realization caught her off guard, but she quickly pushed it from her mind as she carefully selected her second Pokemon for the match. She'd been working with several different Pokemon other than her three signature Pokemon, as the Ivysaur she'd used against that Crenu fellow had shown, and now she decided that it was time for the debut of another new member to her party as she took the sphere from the folds of her kimono. "My next Pokemon shall be Exeggutor."

The Coconut Pokemon emerged from its Pokeball quite quietly in comparison to how Victreebel had, and it danced from foot to foot as it enjoyed the warmth of the climate-controlled greenhouse. "Let's start with a bang, Exeggutor. Egg Bomb, now, please." Every head seemed to be brimming with excitement as the dual Grass and Psychic-type continued to dance on the spot. The long, luscious leaves growing from its body shimmered slightly before a barrage of glowing orbs were launched from the top of Exeggutor's head, each set to detonate upon contact with anything, be it the ground or Blaziken as they rained down onto the battlefield.

Lucario scoffed. The boy was sure quick to jump the gun, already resorting to fighting. A fight wasn't what the Pokemon was aiming for, but not that he'd brought honor into picture there was no way he could refused. "You think you know so much about my master, but there is so much you are blind to," he replied curtly before taking a few paces back. While he had limited knowledge about her past he felt he was more in tuned to her pains and sorrows than this boy was. He could feel and read her emotions much more easily and accurately thanks to his ability to sense the aura of others as well as with the training along side his previous master's Pokemon.

I will fight, the Pokemon thought, because I cannot deny him the chance to defend his honor. Lucario bowed to show respect, there must be something in this boy for his master to have become so fond to. Straighting his back he ran forward getting close to Cable quite quickly, his leg extended and raised, already catching fire.

Mitsu slept quietly in the hospital-style bed while Sapphire stood by attentively, guarding his trainer from unseen dangers. He looked a bit downtrodden, already knowing there was little he could do to protect her from the real pains she suffered. He was not as connected to Mitsu as Karri was, but he'd been with her long enough to know, even before she began displaying the symptoms that she'd recently developed. Her fingers instinctively wrapped around the sheets, grasping them tightly. There was so much she has lost, there was so much she could lose, there was so much guilt she had to live with.

Alright! After seeing that Electabuzz before, Chimchar was finally gonna see him in action! He clenched his fists excitedly and pumped them into the air. "Cha-cha-chiii!!" he cheered to Cable. Treecko had to agree with Chimchar. All her matches against Electabuzz were merely for sport. She knew that - there was no way she could beat him. Cable was just making her happy. But now it was time to really see how strong he was! "Cable! He's coming fast, but you've got the speed advantage, no question!" Kilik was careful not to move his arms. As animated as he could get during a fight, there was no denying that he could seriously hurt one of his two new Pokemon by flailing about like he normally did. Cable zipped out the way, smirking as he did so. It would take a lot more than that to catch up to him! Kilik rummaged through his bag and pulled out his PokeDex, lifting it up to get some information on Lucario.

"Lucario, the Aura Pokemon. It has a unique typing of Fighting/Steel. It is said that no foe can remain invisible to Lucario, since it can detect auras. It can even find foes that it could otherwise not see. Using aura, it can read the movements of everything around it. Lucario can understand, and in many cases, speak human speech."

"Fighting and Steel, huh?" Kilik smirked and tucked the device away. "Then I know just the move! Cable, strike back with your Brick Break!" Chimchar heard the command and nearly jumped forward. He was still ready to fight, being burned up about that Piplup from that blonde boy earlier. Kilik's word was his command! Electabuzz shot forward like lightning and swung his fist forward, aiming straight for Lucario's face.

"BLEEEEH!" Mazarin fell over in the dirt, face down with his rear in the air. "It's so hot! Why is Goldenrod so hot? Stupid Johto!" He looked up and saw a pair of legs and immediately shot up. He began jogging along the girl. "Hey there. I'm new in town. Where you headed? What's your name? I'm Maz. Let's go out." She dashed ahead of him, completely ignoring him. "Oooh, a runner. I got all day, baby!" He caught up easily.

"Go away, you creep!" she cried out, stopping suddenly.

"Hey, wait up!" he stopped with her, "You don't know me. I'm just trying to be nice and friendly. You are..." he took her hands in his, "The most beautiful girl I have ever seen."

"R-really? She blushed.

Oh yeah - this was gonna be a cinch.
