{Continued from The Headmaster's Office}

"Well seeing how he is the principle of Ria High I always thought he would have a more reserved attitude." Tiffany took in thought of her own answer and then compared it to the mayhem that took place minutes ago.
"Then again, maybe it's because he's so quirky and out there that makes Ria High so successful."
Tiffany just laughed to herself a bit as she started to walk down the busy corridors of the main office. She didn't mean to make the whole conversation with Rayan gloomy, but maybe and Rayan and Tiff weren't all that different from one another.

Maybe he has a true means of coming back here as well. *sigh* Ria High...what type mystical powers do you have that brings back your students. Maybe this is sign of a greater power that has yet to be unleashed. A prophecy to protect this district from an evil that has yet to come. In any case...I guess I'll never fully understand why.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Forestlake Mall. The most luxurious mall to stand tall on this planet. Kings and Queens themselves would happily grace the grandeur marble floors that placates themselves throughout the mall. Tiffany's heels clacked each time she took a step forward. She halted her position for a slight second to look around her whereabouts. Thousands of people decorated the spacious mall, talking and laughing amongst themselves as if they were in their own little world. Tiffany slightly grinned as she spun herself around to take a look at Rayan. His dirty ensemble clashed with the clean and pristine clothing that many of these mall shoppers were wearing. It would be no doubt that Rayan would stick out like a sore thumb and that many people would be talking and whispering amongst each other, but Rayan didn't seem like the person to care in such petty matters.

"This mall has quite a selection in men clothing specifically. We could go to a few if you like?"
Tiff turned her head to look at the almost never ending hallways of stores. it then occurred to her that Rayan probably didn't have any other extra clothing. It would be wise to buy a few extra clothing for him to at least last a week or so.
"You know it would also be good to buy extra clothing. Seeing how you might go on this 'trial' you might just rip and tear your new clothes all over again."
Tiff then spotted an appropriate place to start and started walking in the store's direction. Upon entering the store, many of the customers and workers stopped what they were doing and took a quick glance at the two. It was almost like second nature for them to do such an act. They quickly went on with their business as Tiff shuffled through the first clothing rack she could find.
"Seeing how you're a fighter, it would be suitable to find you some clothing that is comfortable to fight in."
Tiffany picked up shirts off the rack as she proceeded to the next clothing rack.
"Also we should probably buy you some nice formal clothing as well. You know, just in case you want to go somewhere nice for a change."
Picking up some more clothes Tiffany quickly averted her attention to another section, hoping Rayan would be able to keep up with her.
"And shoes too! You won't believe how wearing the appropriate shoes can complete a look."
Although it seemed like Tiff was picking out random clothing, she was actually picking out clothing that would suit Rayan. Right from the start Tiffany had already analyzed Rayan's clothing and envisioned what he would be wearing if it didn't have any holes or dirt on it. From there she envisioned suitable or similar clothing that would match Rayan's fashion sense. When it came to stuff like this Tiffany's brain worked like a computer. She could easily look at a shirt and be like "oh hey, that's the one!" and surely enough it would be a perfect match.

"Here, try these on."

Tiff handed the pile of clothing to Rayan which almost completely covered his face. Tiff then pushed Rayan from behind as she steered him towards the dressing the rooms.
"Out of the way coming through! Hobo in need of clothes, I repeat, hobo in need of clothes!' Tiff's shouts echoed throughout the store as many people stopped and stared. She wasn't trying to embarrass Rayan or anything, it was that Tiff was always seen as a tease.
After a while Tiff stopped pushing Rayan once they were close enough and started to walk beside him. There were questions that Tiff wanted to ask Rayan. She didn't know much about him but she did know that he had some kind of past with Ky, Kurai, and Rene.

"So you knew Ky, Kurai, and Rene right?" Tiff blurted out in slight hesitation.
"Did you guys grow up in the same town?"
Tiffany was quite afraid of asking this question. If he had said yes, then it was her old Majin brethren that destroyed the town. It was the reason why Ky hated her so much. Even to this day she never told Kurai and Rene what had happened. Though it wasn't like Tiffany was in the battle in the first place, she was too young to engage in such battles. Still, she couldn't help but feel a bit responsible.

"Tell me Rayan...When a person creates a sin so bad that the guilt pierces through them every night and day, the pain that they suffer so great that they must do everything in their power to repent for their sins. Do you think they could ever be forgiven...even from the ones that they hurt?"
Before Rayan could input his thoughts on the matter, they had arrived at an empty dressing room, waiting for its next customer.

Rayan said nothing as the two of them walked and merely looked in Tiffany's direction; he could not help but chuckle briefly as he listened to Tiff's idea of what she had expected Mattus to be. At the same time, though, her observations on the headmaster struck Rayan as rather astute. His erratic, instant-decision-making nature and laid-back personality had created a system that allowed for personal exploration and freedom, with enough gravity to pull in countless applicants and ensure the return of numerous alumni. Rayan had always heard about Tiffany Savior when he taught at Ria High; from what he had overheard during class, Tiffany was a beautiful but clumsy girl with a myriad of boys after her and a shopping addiction. But the woman he found himself walking besides proved a far deeper thinker than the one the high school boys slobbered over.

"This mall has quite a selection in men's clothing specifically. We could go to a few if you like?" Tiff asked, looking in numerous directions at the various stores. Rayan's focus switched to the task at hand. He didn't know what he was supposed to look for; as far as he knew, Rayan didn't have a sense of style. He knew that his outfit had to include boots, as he needed durable footwear with excellent traction, and he needed a long, flowing coat in order to conceal his shimozue when necessary, and as such, had to be black to match his weapon. Anything else would do fine...

Before he knew what was happening, Rayan found himself being towed into a clothing store by Tiff, who possessed, it seems, a skill for filling his arms with a tower of clothes. She had a few excellent points, though: He would need more than one outfit, and he needed them to be battle-worthy. Rayan craned his neck to look at the entire tower he now carried; impressive though it was, he could not see anything that matched the image of what he saw himself wearing as he sought vengeance against his sworn adversary.

Well, I guess it couldn't hurt to have outfits other than what I'm going to be fighting in, he thought. Don't want to make Tiff do all this work for nothing, either... May as well at least try them on.

"Also we should probably buy you some nice formal clothing as well. You know, just in case you want to go somewhere nice for a change," Tiff stated, flipping through several outfits as she spoke.

"Formal clothes?" Rayan repeated. From what he could tell, this store didn't have as much in the way of high-class wear. "I guess this means we have to go to more stores, then, eh?"

But Tiff didn't answer. She got behind him and began to plow him through a crowd of customers that she ordered to disperse. Rayan couldn't see a thing; the rainbow-colored cloth tower completely enveloped his vision. Tiffany suddenly ceased pushing him, and he stumbled forward into a wall; a few shirts fell from the tower, while the rest cushioned Rayan's face.

"I'm... I've told Joy a thousand times," he said, "I'm not... never was a... I'm not a hobo!" Rayan did not feel angry towards Tiff for shouting those words to the other customers. Rather, it had become automatic for him to deny how strikingly homeless he looked. Dazed, he began to walk into the changing rooms... and then stopped.

That's definitely out of the blue. Why is she asking about Ky, Kurai, Rene, and my hometown? Something's definitely irritating her...

Rayan placed the stack of clothes on top of a nearby bench with care, and then looked directly into Tiffany's eyes. Curiosity, apprehension... dread. He could see these emotions swimming inside her head by the dilation of her pupils, the sudden halt in her breathing, the way she held her hands in front of her. Rayan decided that whatever she was asking about gripped her conscience.

"Ky... was a swordsman student of mine during my first year of teaching. He proved difficult to teach, both because I admit that I wasn't particularly gifted at teaching and because his skill so closely rivaled my own. Kurai I met through Miss Aili, as he was her personal aide. I think I met him near the playground... he was experiencing a good amount of trauma over something I'm not quite sure about, I think it involved Rene and Joy; Rene I met through Kurai and Ky. I don't know anything about their hometown, mine is north of Centropolis."

He said nothing more for several moments, but only continued to meet Tiffany's gaze. This was hardly the place for her to bring up such emotional, personal questions. Had these thoughts plagued her all throughout her high school years, and even after graduation?

"Miss Savior," Rayan began anew, "who is the person you are referring to? I don't claim to know how long one's wrongs will haunt him, but I know that some people forgive others while some hold them in eternal spite. I suppose it depends on whether you are talking about asking a person for forgiveness or finding solace for one's own soul." Then Rayan added, as tactfully as he could, "don't feel like you have to answer if my questions are too... intrusive. But I'm willing to talk about whatever you wish to. It's the least I can do for your helping me find a suitable outfit."

Tiff couldn't help but take a good sigh of relief

Phew, well that's one burden off my chest

She noticed Rayan's stern position and wondered if her apparent emotions had been plastered all over her face. Tiff squinted for a moment before looking into Rayan's eyes. She was afraid he might be able to read her like a book. As Rayan gave his answer to her previous question, Tiff couldn't help but give out a friendly smile.

"Perhaps I've been locked up in the past for too long. Maybe it's best if we just forget about it and move along."
It was obvious Tiff didn't want to pry any further. She realized it was her own burden that she must overcome. Growing up, she was told that receiving help from others was a weakness. Ironic enough though it was Tiff herself who would gladly cut off her own limbs in order to help someone in need. However when it came to her own accords, she always found a way to handle it herself without others help. Without a sudden hesitation Tiffany quickly pushed Rayan into one of the dressing rooms and shut the door. She then began throwing the pile of clothes that he had stacked on a nearby bench over the dressing the room, telling Rayan to put them on. Quickly changing the subject, Tiff tried asking a question that was more directed towards Rayan.

"So the Obelisks? Do you have any idea what type of 'trial' you will have to face in order to pass? Obviously it won't be easy. Do you think you have what it takes to pass it?"
Tiff then sat down on the bench that was once piled up with clothes and placed her purse beside her.
"Also your time as a mercenary must have been interesting. I'm sure you must have fought some pretty formidable foes."
Tiffany looked on by as other people were passing her by. She brushed her platinum hair behind her ear as she leaned her back until it touched the wall behind her.

I take it that she's declining my offer, Rayan thought as the stall doors shut behind him with a clack. The questions Tiffany had raised still swirled about in his head; why would she ask him about her peers and then say that she did not wish to discuss the matter? Surely, the woman was one with flighty emotional spikes. Rayan knew better than to press the matter, though, so he kept his mouth closed.

Something soft hit his head, and Rayan's vision turned goldenrod. Then another projectile that felt like velvet landed on his shoulder. As he lifted off the shirt that covered his eyes and looked up, Rayan found himself being swallowed up by an avalanche of clothing that poured over the top of the stall walls.

"Ack! Wait a sec-"

Rayan's divine reflexes kicked in; his hands became a blur as he caught each shirt and pair of pants that flooded the stall and tossed them into rough piles. When it began to seem like the flood of fabric would never end, Rayan found that he was no longer grasping anything in the air; the avalanche had ended, and in its place were two makeshift piles, of shirts and pants respectively, that threatened to topple over.

"Well, I suppose I should get moving with the outfits... that is why we're here after all..."

Rayan began to flip through the massive piles of clothes to find a matching outfit. However, his abilities lay in swordsmanship, not fashion; as such, he found the whole process rather difficult.

Let's see, these blue pants fit my hair and this green collar shirt matches my eyes... This tan jacket is comfortable, but I have no idea what it would go with. Ah, the hell with it!

Rayan slipped on some pants and a shirt at random, zipping and buttoning them without looking as quickly as possible so that he would not have time to judge his appearance or change his mind. As he slipped the sleeve of the shirt over his left arm, Rayan heard Tiffany ask him about the Obelisk trials and his mercenary experiences over the past year. He decided that he could trust Tiffany to tell her at least what he knew about the Obelisks and some of his experiences... after all, he trusted her with his appearance.

"There are no written documents on the Obelisk Trials," the former teacher replied. He paused a moment to gather his thoughts before continuing; "However... from what I have heard, the Obelisk Trials are far more difficult than any Exhibition Battle test that Ria High students and teachers undergo. I have been told that it is extremely excruciating both physically and mentally.

"As for whether I am up to the task of joining their ranks, I suppose we will both find out how much good my past year of endless battles and life-or-death challenges have done me," Rayan answered. "My blade skills have definitely sharpened to a much deadlier level than when I taught at Ria High... but then, there are so many powerful fighters in this world. I suppose I don't really know what I'm going to be up against." Rayan shook his head.

Tiff's question bothered Rayan, not because she had asked it, but because he had no real answer for her. Knowing what challenges he would face was the first step towards victory, as in any battle, but Rayan knew that he would be challenging the Obelisk acceptance test with almost no knowledge of what tasks he would face or what would be required of him. The dreaded thought that all his training would be for naught irritated him, though he did his part to not show signs that his worries bothered him. He would have to research the Obelisk trials to see what he could dig up before telling the Headmaster that he wished to join them.
