You have NO idea.

Our Art History teacher took us on a tour of Vancouver to admire architecture and took us PAST Hastings.

I was SO sure he was getting FIRED.

The Montreal intern as all like "Uh. Kids. Hold hands and pray your teacher's sanity returns."

He took us down an alley to the edge to 'see where the other half of humanity lived'.

Then we booted it back to the cenotaph.

Hastings and its surrounding does have a number of notable old/"preserved" architecture there. That's why I find it interesting smile

It's not as bad as what people think... I do walk around there sometimes alone... it's just a little more crazy at E. Hastings & Main... otherwise it's just another subculture of Vancouver ... kinda like... Commercial Drive.

My volunteer group actually did that once, just to let youths know the other side of life that we don't always see... just to say "it's not as bad as you expect it to be"

@yenyit - lucky bum! I've spent 260+ on textbooks, and for only 3 courses. *sigh*

lol...I've spend around $400 once...that hurt a lot crying

lol...maybe emerald would know...psst...emerald...are there any private schools around here? ninja sweatdrop

You mean Vancouver? I wouldn't know anything about your little town. xd There's a few that I know of, like Little Flower Academy, Crofton House, Corpis Christi (wait, I think that's a private elementary school), and an all-boys one that I cannot seem to recall the name of....

But that is by no means a complete list.

did you even understand calculus? I'm reading the textbook and I don't understand around 97% of what it's trying to tell me crying

No, that's why I only passed by 1 percent. Yes, that's right, one.

Calida

You got the scoop for the dullest prof in UBC?

I don't particularly mind "uninteresting" profs as long as they know what they are talking about. Boring is the least of an issue when it comes to eg. having a prof who's interesting, but ended up being an insanely hard marker--who babbles around only 5% worth of exam materials during lectures. stare

P.S. Anyone pissed about the amount they blow on textbooks /sem!?

Dullest prof huh? So far it has to be my English Lit prof. Her name is Gooch I think. She's really nice but dang, it's nearly impossible to stay awake as she drones on and on, in a soft voice, maintaining an almost monotone effect throughout the entire lecture... And as for hard markers, I don't really mind those types if they can teach well and I can learn something from them. That is, after all, the most important thing in my books (since I have to pay so much for my education anyhow xp ).

And geez, tell me about it! With a regular timetable (5 courses/term) you can easily blow 1k on textbooks alone.

Um, I don't think so. Vancouver is a separate city. Vancouver and the surrounding towns form an area known as the Lower Mainland. And I don't mind.....as long as I know I'm being addressed, it's all good.

Because I'm 16 and my parents, due to the 'family business' cannot move anywhere particularily interesting. Hell. That can't move at all.

I really do hate it.

I can't afford anything in Vancouver and have to finish my school.

lol...well, then..umm...I dunno sweatdrop ...finish school first smile

Naw.

Then it's off to New York.

Or Paris. Or London. Or Taipei

Or someplace HUGE where I doubt I'll see the same person twice.

<3

not gonna live in one place then?

No.

...

NEVER again will I stay in one place more than 2 years.

I can't wait to travel... and ... roam... and ... yeah.

I was rather frightened by the needles.

And ... the rat.

...

Ew.

One glimpse down possibly the worst alley on Hastings.

...

What are the chances.
