That happened to me recently, actually; I think I'll give said artist another month or so before I bother reaching out again. It was only a New Year's auction, though, so it isn't terribly aged yet.
It's difficult for both artist and commissioner, I suppose - no one wants to get ripped off, but commissioners/auction winners have to abide by terms as set by the artist, including paying upfront etc. It must be dreadful to be an artist who gets a fantastic bid and the winner nicks off to the middle of nowhere. Similarly, it's quite poxy to be a winning bidder who pays and doesn't hear anything about it ever again.
A public rating system? Like feedback on eBay? (;
I hope it works out on your end, Sai.

Often, commissioners need a rating system, too.

Yeah, i meant it in both ways, it wasn't very clear waas it? I meant like you could get feedback on the artist, and artists could get feedback on commissioners.
The only problem i see with that though, is that you wouldn't be getting both sides of the story all the time. But still it'd be a nice thought.

Well, ratings are mean. numbers are mean, objective things. A feedback system would be a lot better. They're mor informative, too. LIke, an artist or commissioner can show off their positive comments, etc.

Both numbers and feedback, in combination, would be best IMO 3nodding Numbers may be mean, objective things but.. I think I like them that way.
Edit~ Hmm. I may be able to set up a rating system thing, but... noootttt sure. I mean, if the artist wanted to be rated they'd have to sign up on the website it's hosted off of, obviously. The problem lies, though, not in the rating system but in the registration. I'll hunt around for some other scripts I could frankenstein in with it, but I the idea would be that anyone who signed up would get their 'user page' where they have their rating and a guestbook-styled thing. A person must be registered in order to rate others and leave comments, and the comments would -not- be annonymous. I know that it may be hard to un-annonymously leave a nasty comment about someone but.. well, thems' the breaks really. If comments could be left annonymously, then people may just sabotage others they don't like *shrugs*.

Rating people, like on eBay, to protect from scammers.
eg, "5/5, fast service and very nice!" "0/5, ran away with my gold, and never drew my picture!" "4/5, very kind and understanding, but requested pose was hard to understand" "3/5, fast service, but actual pictures not as nice as the samples :<"

yeah it would be an optional thing to sign up for, of course, but people who did sign up would be able to-- in theory-- post their rating in their shops.
Like there would be the php code that generates their rating images, with the stars, and they could include it in their shop with a link to their members page so you can read their comments. 3nodding
Maybe we could also have a memberlist where you can sort members by their rating, and then artists can include links to their shops in a little 'about me' section on their member page.

And on E-Bay, you can respond to negative comments saying they're untrue.

Yeah. Artists tend to be rather senseitive people... i say this out of experience.
I think star ratings aren't good because then you have people ranking artists based on how much they like the artist's style (like in the arena). Which is subjective. I think it should be about customer service only.
The positive/negative system is good, i think.

Yeah I was thinking about that, Woe. I'm not sure that saying "Ranking customer service only, what would you give the artist out of 5:" will do the trick, so I was thinking about having 3 caterories. Style, speed, and reliability.
