Being a trombone player, I'm basically obligated to be some sort of dork. Well, I'm our band's religious...person. Therefore, we decided that my marching horn is female, given that it lacks a "trigger" (it took us a long time to realize this could have dirty implications...... rofl ) and my concert band horn, for the opposite reason, is a male. The male horn I named Sampson (because it's good and wonderful and sounds fabulous) and my beater horn i named Delilah (because it's evil, falls apart, and sounds like total crap.)
That's probably my best instrument story. Anyone else have a story behind their horn's name, or is my section just a bunch of weirdos?

My first clarinet was named Julia. My second (and current) is named Madeline, My bass clarinet is named Manat Kanact secretly (it's a name for an alien I made long ago for a story), but her "normal" name is Marigold (Mary for short)
No particular reason for any of these names

My tenor has been dubbed "Slim Shady" by the bandies because I can apparently "Sax Rap" by playing very fast improv for a very long time without taking a breath. I think it's kinda stupid, but everyone else seemes to think it's pretty rad.

My clarinet is George Desaunt (or however it's spelled) because I used to watch Gundam everyday and my tenor sax is Socrates because he is a very old instrument who needed an ancient name, but it still plays good so he got a cool old person's name. I had named my bari sax Tootie after a liquor store until the BD took him away D:

wow, i'm not alone! :B
when i was in junior high i played clarinet and my section leader had named her instrument Victor and talked me into naming mine, so I named it Alexandra ... Alex for short
our instrument storage was pretty big but we always put ours next to each other and one day decided they where getting married
but then i moved and we both went on to high school and my BD but me on bass clarinet for concert music
keeping with tradition, i dubbed him Giovanni and decided he was Alexandra and Victor's son
none of my other instruments are named though

My sax's name is Earle. Accoustic guitar's name is Gretchin ...
My friend namedher clarinet Claire, and her second one Bella... and he case's name is Casey (All of these are boys, however). Love her originailty.
Also, we've determined that brass and flutes are girls, because they have two holes (bell and mouthpeice). Clarinets, oeboes and saxes are males, because they have a hole and a... not hole XD. (Mouthpeice and bell, also.)
