Shikarama Nara, The Dedicated Genius

Shikarama looked through the crowds of rain villagers, each and every one of them bearing the same rain coat as he had been given. Meanwhile, various merchants had set themselves up in umbrella awning covered open establishments. It was a strange thing with all the buildings around that which would let them sell their wares while perfectly indoors. Then again, perhaps they simply wish to take in the atmosphere of this rainy place. One imagined living here could make a person partial to it. But it was more practical that they did it because it always rained. Given this was the case, any customer who came in would be drenched, dripping water all over the floor. To say the least, the janitorial jobs produced by this would be rather regular. And speaking of the buildings, the buildings here were amazing, many of them being practical skyscrapers in comparison to those of the leave village. Many of them seemed rather metallic having projects from them that Shikarama could only assume were pipes.
Shikarama then would take a moment, stopping at a shop selling ninja weapons of a unique nature. His were were drawn to a strange umbrella. He picked it up, finding it surprisingly heavy for what it was. Opening it up, impressed, he found seals set in it similar to those of a weapon's scroll. Attached to these seals were spring loads. Shikarama would ask the man about this, "I'm guessing this is an umbrella designed to fire weapons when opened, correct?" The owner nodding, moving on its use for storing and releasing a huge amount of senbon. The force with which they were released was enough to pierce and 5 millimeters of tempered steel. Shikarama, smiling in the thought, purchased it from the man, thanking him as he left.
He stepped into a less clouded area, a sort of park. As he would walk, he glanced to the side, near a tree he had passed, picking up hints of movement behind him. He kept walking, though not turning to face whoever it was. He was certain this wasn't just the walking movements of another villager. Someone was there, watching him. Keeping his arms under his cloak, Shikarama would carefully form seals. With that, a small burst of chakra he released a playful little jutsu on whomever it was who was watching him from the tree. Now then, let's just see how you respond to this. Genjutsu: Bug Paranoia Shikarama release a genjutsu against the boy, which would cause him, whether he was on the ground or in the tree, to suddenly find insects emerging out around him from every direction, seemingly from nowhere. They would swarm around him and move to engulf him, crawling over every inch of his body, moving to enter his nose, mouth, and ears as well. The numbers would start out a one, and slowly but surely increase in numbers, crawling out from the grass or from behind leaves and branches, flying down from the sky, or any other way they could suddenly appear. Depending on how he would interact with this genjutsu, Shikarama would use the distraction to make his way behind the boy. It was a weak genjutsu, but of course the kid was fresh out of the academy, and may never have dealt with genjutsu before.

Shikarama had drawn near as he heard the boy scream. It seemed rather clear that he was affected by the genjutsu. Shikarama would quickly move around to get a better look, catching sight of the child. He drew closer as the boy panicked, holding back a laugh. The boy begged for the insectoids to cease, Shikarama was near enough to reach to touch the boy stealthily, but then the water technique was released by the boy surprising him. They were both hit by a large amount of water, apparently to wash the bugs away. It soaked Shikarama thoroughly, as well as the kid. However, it apparently hadn't hit them very hard, as the water hadn't caused enough pain to snap Rune out of it. His panicking appeared to cease for only a few moments before starting to pick up again. Shikarama would shy before moving behind Rune, whether he was in the tree or on the ground now. Shikarama reached his hand out to grip the boy's shoulder. As he would grab it, he formed a hand seal, inserting a small amount of his chakra into the boy to disrupt the genjutsu's effect.
Shikarama would smile lightly now, laughing just a bit. "So now, I see I have a little spy in my midst. And just who might you be?" He asked the boy. He displayed a calm confidence, lacking any fear of the boy. He would be ready of this genin did anything rash, but personally, he didn't expect that to happen. After all, it was hardly rational to just go attacking strangers. He shifted his cloak lightly underneath the raincoat. Despite the later covering, the water was enough to leave him less the comfortably wet. After all, the rain coat was designed for just that, rain, not for random sky waves.

Shikarama Nara, The Dedicated Genius

Shikarama slowly pulled his hand from the boy as he finally took notice. The Nara would cross his arms, waiting for an answer to the question he had given. Rune , after having calmed himself some, awakening from the illusion, finally told Shikarama that he was a Fuka. Shikarama's mind drifted to the name. He believed he remembered it being a clan known for stealing chakra from others through a rather... unique means. He chose not to mention it. The boy was nervous at first, but soon enough called down, before giving his full name, providing his identity as Rune. He then returned the question of Identity to Shikarama himself.
Shikarama answered with a gentle smile. "My name is Shikarama Nara, Jounin of the Leaf." The boy moved to apologize for wetting him, grabbing a cloth. Shikarama laughed to himself lightly. "It's quite alright, no harm done. I am impressed that you had the presence of mind to use a jutsu with what you were experiencing. That is pretty good for a genin. Now, why exactly were you spying on me?"

Shikarama smiled confidently, seeing the impression he made on the kid's face. It was true, the Nara were one of the noble clans. Notably they weren't as legendary or, arguably, powerful, as those of the Hyuga, Uchiha, Senju or Uzimaki, but they had proven their merit for a long time. And indeed, their signature jutsu involved the use of shadows. The boy nodded in gratitude to Shikarama's compliment. He then fervently denied that he was spying, only to struggle to bring up a means to explain away his actions. His explanation did have merit. Shikarama was an outsider. He didn't intend to act as otherwise. Of course, there was a clear flaw in that explanation.
Shikarama would comment. "Aw, but shouldn't my open lack of nativity and similarity put you at ease." Shikarama began to explain. "If my intentions were harmful to the Rain village, would I not attempt to hide my nature? For a spy or assassin to readily show their colors is a foolish thing to do, after all."
He stepped back from the boy, asking him. "So, Ruka, young genin, do you have a sensei?"

Shikarama could finally see the relative ease that Rune was under now, as the child nodded, taking in his explanation, speaking softly in agreement. Of course there was the question of the double bluff, one that Rune did lightly touch upon in his mind. But ultimately it was pointless to go there, as one was left with an ever-increasing bluff levels as bluff was made of a bluff of a bluff and so on. Not that Shikarama thought on this, as, again there was little point, given that the boy already trusted him, if only a little bit. He raised an eyebrow as Rune mentioned there being few higher level ninja around the village. That suggested either the village was a rather busy one, with ninja being constantly sent on missions, or it was experiencing a slump in talent or rank, potentially due to lack of graduates from exams. One would hope it was the most former of the possibilities, as the Hidden Rain village was one which had experiences a great deal of hardship in the past. After all, the land it protected had been the center of a great war for territory between several shinobi nations in the distant past. It was the place where the first Sanin were named.
Shikarama leaned over, placing a hand towards the boy's head. "Very well, How about I act as your Trainer for now?" He suggested to the Genin. He always felt in the proper place when acting as a teacher. Even if this was a foreign village and the genin before him wasn't an assigned student, Shikarama felt he could help.

Shikarama watched the boy shift hesitently, seemingly struggling to come up with an appropriate answer to the question paced before him. Rune doubted himself, and felt he was weak and unworthy, which made was part of what made him question the offer so, aside from the village issue. But it was precisely these qualities that made him most appropriate to be a student. Teaching, after all, was most suited to those who need to learn and those who needed to improve themselves. Those who already held talent and skill were less in need of someone to help them develop as they were already developed. There was little point in cleaning a sparkling a diamond, but a diamond in the rough, layered in dirt and rock and hidden needed to be worked on and exposed. He smiled reassuringly, waiting for his response, until he merely asked Shikarama if he was certain, bringing up the fact that they are from different villages.
"I asked you, did I not. You are in need of a teacher, and I am seeking to teach. A student is still a student and a teacher is still a teacher, regardless of what villages they are from, or whether they be friends, family, acquaintances, or strangers." Shikarama would start to turn from the boy. "It's your choice. If you truly don't want a sensei, you need only say so. But I've given you the offer. I should say, though, if you do seek to be taught, you will be able to master things you've never dreamed of." He glanced back to the genin with a smirk.

Shikarama waited calmly, knowing the boy would make the right choice for himself. Shikarama was really looking forward to acting as a teacher. He couldn't tell if the doubt faded from the boy, as Rune hesitated in answering. As Shikarama turned, though, Rune would suddenly rush towards him, excitement rising on the boy's face as he affirmed his desire to be taught. Shikarama smiled to him with assurance as he said.
"Perfect, I was afraid I'd have to leave you to your own devices." He joked before turning to the boy, crossing his arms. "Very well then, first step is first. Fuka Rune, I need to know exactly what you are capable of. What experience have you had as a genin, and what sort of jutsu do you know...aside from your previous demonstration?" At least he knew two things, one that the boy had achieved nature manipulation, and two that his main element was water. There was some detriment to that, given that Shikarama had not developed water as one of his elements. But that couldn't be helped. There was plenty of non-elemental jutsu that Shikarama could teach him. And judging from the previous happenings, genjutsu and how to resist it was a top priority.

Shikarama smirked at the grin Rune gave. It did seem indeed that the little spy was quite the rascal. The boy began going over his experiences. Though it seemed there were few. He mentioned that one experience, that one rather recent experience, of him stalking Shikarama, with the latter turning to offer him training. Shikarama chuckled to himself, before hearing the boy had just become a genin today. "And already, you've learned to use your element. That is quite a feat." The boy began to go over jutsu in his head and hands, Only counting to seven, leaving Shikarama to frown lightly.
Shikarama spoke to the boy, asking, "It's fine. But how much of the basics have you mastered? How many of the academy jutsu have you learned. Despite their simplicity, they can be some of the most valuable?" Shikarama had purposes extended his time in the academy to master each of the jutsu completely, after all.
