"i understand fully good sir," Jania said politely as she hopped off Rayneer. She was still in the guise of her little girl form as it was the most disarming form she could assume. She held her necklace up and a small portal appeared that Rayneer jumped into. Jania knew it would look surprising to anyone that she had bound a creature at her apparent age but that would add to the misconceptions and advantages she could gain.

Jania simply looked at Raidek expectantly nod her head slightly for him to lead the way. They hadn't talked much but after their last discussion she was ready to let him assume the role of leader unless her whims need her to be in charge. She figured it would allow a tighter leash of control if he thought he was in control of her.

"Oh don't call me sir little lady, names Montague, course little ones like yourself usually come to call me Monty, or Uncle Monty." He chuckled to himself and looked down to Raidek after he saw the portal open and the spider disappeared into it. "Interesting pet she has lad, she yours."

Raidek gave a laugh from the deepest pit of his gut, "No Monty, picked her up a while back, we can talk about it tonight. Perhaps over some drinks."

"Is there any way else to be talkin'." Monty laughed and raised a flask from an unseen area in his little outpost at the gate. Raidek chuckled and shook his head.

"Well go on, Linda has a room you can stay at in the tavern I'm sure. Probably see you there when my shift ends." Monty smiled. Raidek simply nodded, looked back to Jania, and moved onward into the city. The gate closing slowly behind them.

Jania followed quickly behind Raidek after flashing a small curtsy to Monty. She then closed the distance to Raidek and leaned in close. "You know," she whispered, "I never thought having someone older as a traveling partner would work out so well. I usually have to at like a beggar at first then i can act like someone's child."

When Sai had finished dislodging the last of the archers he touched the fingertips of one hand to the binding stone at his neck. A brilliant flash of crimson light erupted from the stone and coalesced and then dimmed into the form of Stratus, his feathered dragon companion.

Sai thought to his partner.

Stratus responded with a sense of eagerness and anticipation. Sai got the feeling that he would be grinning if his fanged maw were capable.

Sai quickly glanced around and saw that Kin was still being harassed by some bound creatures, and that more pirates were on their way to engage him.

Sai muttered the incantation for his basic wind spell, aiming it at his back to propel him forward. Stratus was right behind him, wings folded, using all four of his clawed feet to tear across the deck like a sinuous rush of feathered death.

Sai quickly engaged a group of pirates that were rushing across the decking. His staff whirling, woodchips flying as they were torn out by enemy swords. He focused purely on the defensive, though he threw in a feint here and there to make it appear that he was actually fighting back. He kept up the defensive, parrying, pattern while Stratus came at them from behind. The dragons great clawed "hands" swiped across, batting bandit after bandit away and out of the fight. One of the pirates turned to confront the dragon directly. Stratus reared up before him, front claws splayed out intimidatingly only to whip his tail out and hurl the man away from him.

Sai thought.

Sai deftly wove through the enemies to come through with his back pressed against Kins. He continued his parrying from there until his enemies were removed with a powerful swipe of his partners tail. Stratus moved up next to him, his feathers bristled out, making him look much larger than he actually was. Sai placed a hand on both Kin and Stratus and muttered, "Permoveo Tractus."

Instantly everything changed, The four of them: Kiro, Vix, Stratus, and Sai were all back aboard The Destiny. Sai fell heavily on his staff then. He was sweating heavily and breathing hard. His clothes were covered in sweat and blood, a fair amount of it his own from accumulated shallow cuts and stabs that had penetrated his defenses.

"I'm all but spent. Whatever they have planned better be good." Sai said to Kin, referring to Captain Carryway and his crew.

Sai's spell startled Kin for a moment. He wasn't completely ready to be sent off the ship and didn't think Sai was capable to transporting a second person. Kin looked at Sai who appeared exhausted. He's improving even faster than we ever thought. Kin thought to himself.

((Kiro?))

Tura suddenly banked.
"Right!"
Tura then spun on a wing and hurtled back toward the Destiny using an updraft to carry them out of firing range.
Not a moment too soon as the Destiny's canons opened fire on the torn enemy ship.
Vilya felt the heat of the blast against her skin and covered her eyes as she looked back.

Once the last combatant pirate saw his ship was done for he turned away. The bat dove under the Destiny and kept on going.

Tura came to land gently on the deck, keeping her injured leg from touching the planks and holding it delicately just above them.
Vilya let go of the saddle and slid down, only to find her legs would not support her. She grabbed Tura's side for support.

"I'm okay." She forced herself to stand, but was still shaking. She looked at her blood-soaked shirt and suddenly felt sick.
try to hide your emotions from me child...> Tura did not need to finish.
She answered stubbornly.
"Sai, are you okay?" She noticed the numerous cuts and scrapes he had collected from the battle.
"I can't believe you teleported everyone back!"

"I can't either." Sai said in response to Vilyas statement. "I think I'll be okay, I used up almost all of my energy though. And I think some of these are going to need to be bandaged up." He said and held his arms up in front of him, looking down at the many cuts, slashes, and stab wounds he had collected, and the blood that was seeping from each of them.

As he was looking at himself Sais eyes fluttered a couple of times, and his head bobbed once or twice before he collapsed to the decking in a heap. Stratus leaned close, listening to his breathing, and was pleased to find that he had simply passed out due to exhaustion.

Stratus thought to the Griffin.

((Btw, where has Damiano been throughout this?))

Raidek shrugged off the comment, "Keep yourself in line here alright. Don't go around attacking every person that pisses you off here. You'll find yourself in a box before you know it. And if your going to challenge someone, anyone, the is a relatively formal procedure to it."

As they walked, they passed a few workshops, the hot breeze coming from their furnaces. The smithies and the glass makers are hard at work. He chuckled to himself, having once been an apprentice in one of the cities many smithies. As well as being half amused with the picture of Jania begging for entrance into a city, even for food and water, or anything for that matter. Raidek laughed again, though it was subtle and could be dismissed as simple reminiscing.

((That is a good question. Well in all honesty I've been trying to keep my school work as manageable as possible while securing my summer job. Sorry I've been so quiet.))

Finding himself unable to act against the oncoming pirates quickly enough, Damiano figured it would be better to defend with the energy he had left. As it was, the offensive option wasn't a very strong one when the alternative was measured against it. In his mind, a defence that should hold off the pirate casters long enough for his allies to return was better than wasting his energy on attempts to strike down his opponents who had much better manoeuvrability than he did. Such being the case, Damiano made his way over to the cargo hold where the goods were being kept as soon as he could walk again (which was around the time he noticed a bat flying toward the ship).

Descending quickly into the hold, Damiano estimated how much time he had before someone or something was able to board the ship and make their way to him. With this in mind, he took some sand from a pouch he had on his belt and began to draw calculated designs using the sand around the precious cargo. He was capable of drawing three symbols on the wooden deck before realising that he had taken a minute more than eh had estimated. Quickly he began to focus himself and cast his spell. He hoped he'd still be strong enough to endure whatever might attempt to pass through his wards.

Sitting down, back straight, Damiano laid his staff on his legs and raised his clasped hands to roughly chin level. He closed his eyes and began to chant in a low murmur. With luck, and strength from his companion, he might be able to hold off anyone who attempted to take the cargo for at least enough time for his allies to arrive. It wasn't the soundest of plans, but it was better than nothing.

((And that is where he's been for the past while. Whether the spell worked or not doesn't quite matter. He's going to be in a trance-like state if you find him, so do be careful sweatdrop ))

((Oh, boy, Carryway's not going to be happy *singsong*))

Tura relayed the message to her companion.

Vilya nodded and bent down to gather Sai off the deck.
with one arm over her shoulder and most of his wieght on her back she managed to carry him down to the crew's sleeping quarters, directed by some of its slightly concerned members.
She set him as gently as she could on a wooden cot and examined the cuts on his arms.
"Not too bad." She said to herself. "Considering how many fighters you took on at once."
She traced the deepest cut with her finger;
It closed neatly, leaving no trace of it ever being there. She healed most of Sai's cuts like this, washing the smaller ones with water and cloths brought to her by one of the Destiny's crew.
When she had finished she stood, and watched Sai for a moment.
She thought, remembering the archers that nearly skewered her new friend.
"You scared me half to death." She said it aloud, only because she knew Sai was unconcious.
Tura was waiting in the corner of the deck, lying down quietly in the shade.
Vilya fetched a needle and medical thread from her pack and began to tend to the gryphon.
Tura observed.
"I told you, I'll deal with that later."

Vilya ignored her, working quickly to sew the gryphon's wound. As she worked she noticed a place just above where she sewed where the fur grew a little shorter.
"There's another scar here."
Was all Tura answered.
"Where did you get it?"
Tura met her gaze then, and held it as only a predator could hold a gaze.

Vilya decided she had better not probe further, she sat quietly and pulled the thread to close Tura's wound.

Carryway had cheered as he watched the smouldering ruin of the enemy ship sink below the cloudline, but now his face was stern and a little worried.
"Blast it! Where's 'at other mage, the one who stayed 'ere?"
It wasn't long before he found Damiano in the cargo hold, with the spell about the cargo. He gave an involuntary squeak and rushed forward.
"Are ye bleedin' daft lad!" He kicked at the sand, erasing the symbols as quickly as he could. Then realized he had not in fact informed them what the cargo was.
He grabbed Damiano away from the crates, as if to shield the mage from what lay inside them.
"Fer heaven sakes an' yer own don't touch it!"
Only when he felt Damiano was a good distance away did he go over and lift the lid of one of the crates.
Inside were stones, at first glance they looked completely ordinary. But if one with a mage gift looked, they might see the aura the stones gave off, deep and violent as if someone had trapped the beginning of the universe inside of them.
Carryway looked back at Damiano, and said it if the mage did not already recognize the stones.
"Wild magic lad."
It was harmless enough for those without mage gift. But if given a channel, someone who could wield magic in thier bodies these simple stones could prove fatal.

Jania contented herself by walking closely to Raidek and appearing to shyly view everything around her. She mentally cataloged where she could go for what services she might need later and stored it away in case she needed it. Over wise she just appeared to be a wide eyed little girl almost clinging to the her mentor and provider. Exactly the kind of thing that made people underestimate her. "So," she said quietly. "Now that you've had a nice little giggle at my expense. Are we going to the inn first or do we need to do anything special?"
PostPosted: Fri Apr 17, 2009 8:13 pm

"Where do you think I'm headed..." Raidek shook his head, "Do you need to do anything special." He looked to here his left brow raised, course she couldn't see it, his mask was on, but he didn't plan on taking it off until the inn. "You did here Monty mention Linda, that's where we're going. Her taverns called, The Iron Mill. I helped her rebuild it. If your going to keep pretending like you a little girl, make sure it seems that way. Don't go wandering off into a smithy and ask him to make you a sword or something alright, be smart about it."
Raidek looked up, away from Jania, the tavern was coming into view, the building looked like a windmill, and the sun shone off from its mostly metallic exterior.

Jania thought indignantly.

Rayneer commented,

Rayneer shot back.

"I have been doing this whole mage thing longer then you have you know," Jania comment quietly. She said it more towards Rayneer then Raidek, but he wouldn't know that. "I'm not stupid, and i know when discretion and intellect are necessary."

"Wild Magic sir? By the powers that be!" Damiano said shocked. Indeed had he known he would have kept his distance from the crates while wielding his magic. He was actually somewhat relieved that his spell hadn't come to effect, or worked at all, it seemed. there was no telling what could have happened if the wild magic had mixed with his own. "Had I known, Captain, then you can be sure I would never have thought to defend the cargo with my magic. My deepest apologies," the young mage concluded with a low bow.

Damiano had heard a story from his father once, of a mage attempting to use their magic within an area afflicted with Wild Magic. What was supposed to be a simple spell to conjure water caused an entire lake to form, or so he was told. Another account, this one read from a book at his Grandfather's estate, told of one who attempted to control wild magic. An entire city was destroyed in an instant and its inhabitants raised as undead. Whether these events were even possible made little difference to Damiano; he had sworn to be extremely careful around wild magic sources and dreaded the thought of nearly doing harm to the ship.

Now that he knew what the cargo was, however, Damiano was curious. Why were they carrying such dangerous cargo to a location supposedly kept by mages? Damiano thought to ask immediately but Ark made a quick mental burst that resembled a cough as if to warn his companion about doing that. It was best to not inquire further and simply leave it as it was.
"If you will excuse me, Captain, I should rejoin with my allies. Oh, and not to worry. I will keep this information privy to myself. They will know nothing of it unless you tell them," with that Damiano hurried to the upper deck. His encounter with the Wild Magic source in the cargo bay, despite how limited, had perhaps been more than he wanted.
