Caden shook his head at the floating ball and smiled. "Never mind it's alright." Eh it's best to lay everything to rest anyway, seems like conversation between a human and two balls of light was starting to fade. "Oh I know about that accent, I just don't have the graceful tongue like elves do, but still I'm happy to have learned thier language." He chuckled with Areesa before he looked back and forth between her and the other one, she had a previous master? He only though she had one, well it didn't seem that she wanted to talk about it anyway. "Well thanks, I'm glad you find it interesting." A small smile to the floating ball before it grew when she 'blinked'. "Yeah when I was a kid, even now I still do." A tilt of his head to the right. "Why you ask?"

A glance at the girl. bah. what did she know about it. you never, ever, look around someplace for something very important if there's something very, very nasty there to deal with first. that way, you don't worry about it sneaking up on you while your otherwise preoccupied. though his attention turned to the others.

"if it's below us, I suggest we try to lure it up topside. better to bring it to us, then try to go into the lion's den. anyone got an meat with them? or any kind of strong smelling food or drink? besides the rum?"

Malik looked over at the girl.

"Define desecrated. most of them have been grave robbed at one point or another. it's a reason for thier restless anger. though a few of the bodies show a recent gnawing on. whatever is here, it's eating the flesh of the dead as much as it was responsible for their demise in the first place. there's about seven, however, untouched grave in the northwest area. and the spirits there are powerful. I can feel their energy from here. and thier anger."

helping his daughter to a standing position.

"your thoughts, daughter?"

Leave it up to Kaznec to ask all the important and matter of fact questions. You know, him and her made a good interogation team really. He could ask all the plausible things and she could come up with an actual well proposed theory based on those easily enough. "I'll have to ask you harder ones or ask you less is all." She did note his silence, and she knew why really, his blunt factual nature could sometimes come off as uncaring. She knew better, but he still watched himself. But it seemed Shyrae had become quite curious, then again that was the nature of elves. "Probably. As I said before, I think I'm top heavy. No, I don't. Just my name and only because I could hear it. We dragon-folk hatch from eggs you know, and they aren't sound proof." Nudging Kaz slightly with her elbow to let him know that he didn't have to play quiet...after all, Bell herself never seemed too upset by it all, at least to other people.

You see, this is why you had a first mate...they conviently pulled you out of harms way and such and you didn't have to watch out for your own person too much...that was thier job among other duties. Brushing herself off she cleared her throat. "Many thanks Mister Robins." Before slanting a glare to Hunter. "Run back to Gale Claw, is that an implication of me being a damsel that will soon be in distress if I stay here with you manly men?" A smile over at her first mate that turned to a smirk for Hunter. "I do believe that Mister Robins has taken care of my answer. Though if anything is trying to eat us...well you can be first. Don't have to outrun it, just you."

See this was why it was good to have your father around sometimes, they could fix things right quick for you especially when thier powers ran in the same vein. Savvy took a moment to compsose herself, turning a grateful look to her father for his help. Like to admit it or not, sometimes she did need help because she lacked in certain areas. Like vision and thus need for an aid to that. "Head back to the ship and give that sad excuse for a human another reason to try and pit against me? I don't think so..." And of course being the still young elf she was, she often made bad decisions still as well. Though ears twitched and she turned to look in the general direction of the voice. Oh hey it was the...thing, what was it called again? "Unfavorable at times, but also useful as well," listening to the new request that was passed her way. "I can." Or at least she thought she could, another look to her father, "I'm alright..." Just to reassure him and herself as well maybe as she let him help her back up and she tried to appear just as fine as ever. Don't look weak now. "I think she means desecreted in the manner of something unwanted being added, not taken or scattered. They're looking for little shards of rainbow tinted crystal.

"Human phrases. Went right over your proverbial head, didn't it?" But also dimming a moment as she bumped into him. Well alright, maybe that was pushing the line a little bit. He hadn't expected her to take him seriously anyways, there was a human present. "You're bored, I'm bored, Caden is boring. Wait, what's this about bubbles?"

Purification system... Well that was some kind of genius, wasn't it? He'd read about them, even seen a miniature prototype built by one of the scholars when he was younger. "That's very interesting, Shyrae. But why is the water dark in the first place?" A pause before he blinked up at the elf as if some new thought had just descended upon him. "Where are you from?"

There was a part of him that always dreaded it when the subject of Jae's past came up in conversation. Yes, she never seemed to care who she told or what people thought but he found that hard to understand. He knew she was strong, but she had to feel something other than indifference towards it all. It was a horrible thing to have happen to you, after all. If he had been in her position, he didn't know how he would have turned out and everytime he was with her in this kind of situation, a little part of him seemed to be waiting for her to break down. And he really didn't want her to break down. Feeling pressure on his side, he looked over to her for a moment. She wanted him to say something? Thus turning back to Shyrae and weighing his words to answer her question. "I met Jae at the orphanage."

Hunter rolled his eyes lightly.

"I wanted to know if you were going or staying, woman. It's always god to know how many people you have when there's a flesh eating beastie come calling. and, for your information, while the Claw may outrun the Chimera with favorable wind...the same cannot be said for you."

"Mister Richards....bait please."

To which richards pulled his pistol, cocked..and shot the nearest pirate to him in the temple, and dragged the body toward the only opening that seemed to go down..and rolled it down the opening.

"thank you. Now, everyone amid ships. get out of the direct way of anything that a large beastie might be able to throw at you or break through. see if our bait lures us something big and mean."

"We don't have a sun and we don't have the normal fish that you might find in the sea." How best to explain this? "I was born beneath the ground so I never saw a sky or clouds until I was older. I literally lived underground my whole life. We made casual forays to the surface sometimes but my father hates it and can't stand it when we go so the visits were few and far between." A shake of her head a moment and she thought about it. "I wonder if the water would lighten if the sun was hitting it? It's filled with all sorts of nasty creatures so maybe they contribute to the darkness as well. I don't really know. I guess when you're used to something, you don't really question it."

She found it quite sad that Jae had never known her parents and was quiet for a few moments, contemplating. Even if one of her parents had been absent due to some horrific accident or something beyond their control, she would still have the memory of them. They'd communicated with her long before she'd been born and she'd found both of their voices a comfort to her. It didn't seem like the time to make a sympathetic gesture so she merely nodded. "Perhaps if you swayed your tail a bit more to balance out your wings, it would go a little smoother?"

"You're happy a lot too. But then so am I so I guess we make a good pair. Careful or Xeke will fly for the hills." She floated over to Caden's ear and her ball tinkled. "He's real grumpy most of the time. I should change his nickname to Mr. Grumpy Light or Mr. Grumpy Ball. But I think that would make him more grumpy." Laughing softly, she bounced again. "What? Just making conversation. He seems like he'd like bubbles."

Eilynne nodded, "I too felt their unrest the moment we arrived but we are not here to give them vindication or revenge. Things are better left alone though the others do not seem to agree." Untouched graves would do her no good and she was pleased that the elf she'd requested understood what she needed. "Yes, I haven't had too much experience with those no longer truly in this life but I do know they take thier own space seriously and are enraged when someone uses them as a hiding place."

"Could you possibly, for once in your life stop being such an arrogant a**, Hunter? I know it's rough but maybe if you treated Gem with a little more respect, she might be willing to share your company when she was sober. Just a thought." He watched Hunter sacrifice a pirate and glared. "That was Gem's man you idiot." Too bad he hadn't waited just a moment for him to poll his crew. He knew for a fact that Galley had a chunk of meat on his person somewhere. Ah well, waiting for a moment, he watched to see what would happen. Good move. Entice it with pirate flesh so it craves more. Idiot. It already knew they were there and was probably already heading up. Thus handing over the newest contraptio they'd added to the ship to the one who had mastered it. The fishhook would hopefully be what they needed. With a sharpened blade on teh exterior and a roll of chain and projection utility inside they could harpoon with an added flair. It was nifty to have a captain like Gem sometimes. "Forbes! Ready with the shot, man. Get it right between the eyes if you can. Let's take it down before it can get us."

Malik closed his eyes a moment, reaching out toward the seven graves he believed untouched...there had to be a reason why they were undisturbed.

"there is one disturbed grave just beyond the seven. it was disturbed by a being not really of great power, persay, but great strength. the actions angered the seven, already infuriated with the looters. Many of the dead here give thier power willingly to the Seven, hoping that thier combined strength would make sure that should this last defiler attempt to reclaim what he or she hid, the spirits here would have the last laugh."

his hiar whipped around abit, and his stance moved some, like a great wind was blowing even though there wasn't one.

"I can't sense anything beyond the Seven. thier fighting me, and they are not only of considerable power in thier own right, but are requesting aid from others. one of them was the a powerful priest that oversaw this building..and buried many of the ones we are walking among."

he opened his eyes, and shook his head lightly.

"this thing you seek may be there...or for all we know it's some dragon's favorite chewtoy. I can't force myself past them without seriously putting us in danger. these dead lack temporal power, but not mental or mystical. and I seriously doubt we want an uprising of Dead on us right now."

Hunter only chuckled lightly at Thobias.

"you and I are different breeds, Thobias. different breeds entirely. this thing craves the flesh of elves...and was powerful enough to destroy this abbey. priestly magic and incantation were brought against it obviously and it still stands, and they are dead. I am not arrogant...But I am not so damned serious as you."

A look over at him.

"the winds carry me as they may, that includes inside as well as outside. and inside, I don't try to chart a course. and that's why Gem likes my company from time to time. I'm as unpredictable as the sandsea...but I could set a watch by you."

Casually loading his crossbow, dipping arrowheads in some kind of sticky substance.

"And I have a damn nice body. that probably helps too."

"Living underground? Now that's something even I can't really wrap my head around. I need the sky, need to have the open space. Why would he hate it so much?" But yeah that thing was happening again, where everyone around her got a little down trodden when the subject was spoken on. That was why she strived to either appear unaffected or unnerved by the subject. Honestly there was nothing she could do about it anyway even if she didn't want to. Someone had to appear positive. A roll of her eyes. "If you can truly call it an orphanage, more like just a communal house of gathering. And you didn't so much as meet me as more of tripped over me."

"You shot Mister Marksons! He was my best swabbie...great, now thanks to you, my decks are never going to be as clean ever every again. And you owe me a man now...or equal compensation. And don't you be calling me 'woman' in the same tone that you would call 'wench' when in a tavern." Crossing her arms in her moment of disgust of his person that was probably fleeting seeing as she wouldn't concentrate too long on him anwyay. "Also, I would like to give womanly common sense advice that you should not be placating the thing with food, let alone feeding it and probably making it better off. And if it likes elves...then it's going to hate human flesh and be pissed. I hope it rends you...I'm standing over here...to the left....away from you all..." Looking to her own men. "Anyone who gets eaten, that's your own problem." Brushing a rock chip or two off her shoulder once more before clearing her throat and slanting another glance at Hunter. "Sometimes, it's good to be able to set your watch by someone....they won't disappoint you." Certain tone to that that said the statement was just for him.

"The dead don't like being disturbed, it's as simple as that. Death is release, not punishment...if someone disturbed your rest, then you would b equite angry too." Not many understood that, but necromancers sure as hell did...and knew how to appeal that so they could indeed use said dead as they needed. A little whistle and she held up her arm, Chylithair landing on her chained bracers a moment later, picking lightly at the blades that were currently hooked into the chains so they didn't swing about. A nod to her father's own sensing. "Duly warned, let's see how far we can go, thus heading off to where senses told her.

It creeped the corridors below, quite pissed...someone tapping into your head wasn't fun. It was a highly aware creature and wise to the ways and magics of elves. They tasted good after all. Kinda spicy. Snuffing the air, blood filled it's nostrils and made saliva drip from it's maw, leaving searign noises in the air and holes in the ground as it walked on, retracing paths. A distinct rancid odor came with the beast as it continued on, as well as the sound of heavy footfalls and a constant growling. Hm, seemed there were moving things about once more. Time for food.

"if you wanted dependable...you'd stick to land."

that was all he said for that.

"come now, beastie. up the stairs. bring your overly large rear up here and leave whatever is down there all alone."

there. eight arrows all ready to go....set in a quiver at his hip, and one loaded up. crossbow int eh right, cutlass in the left.

"I don't need to live forever, Gem. maybe you do. but everything that is worth value is going to come from one of two places here. that critter's nest, or the graves outside. you want to graverob, fine by me. I want whatever this thing might be using as bedding...or shiny things it might be hoarding."
PostPosted: Thu Jun 28, 2007 5:05 pm

Caden glared at the blue floating ball as he crossed his arms over his chest, the book coming to rest underneath an armpit. "'I'm boring? Ever think you are the one that's boring?" A small sigh before he shook his head, he didn't want to get mad over something stupid like that. Though when the other one, Areesa, he smiled a little bit. "Well I rather be happy then in a bad mood, and if being happy makes us a good pair then that's a good thing." A nod to that before he looked at the little ball from the corner of his eye as it floated up to his ear. "I don't know, it wouldn't be nice to upset him by calling him that." Still it was funny and he had to chuckle a little bit with Areesa. "Well I do like bubbles, they are round, they float, and they do have a light hue of color to them. Plus they are fun to play with." He said to the both of them before pulling his arms away from his body and opening the book again, looking for the page he had just lost.

"And yet no apology. Why am I not surprised." Sure he could yell back that Hunter was a captain and had the right to do what he wanted but Thobias felt no need to play into his childish game. Gem chose who she chose for her reasons alone. If she wanted a random night with Hunter, that was fine with him. His job was to protect his captain and when her wishes didn't line up with the high handedness that Hunter exemplified, he'd get a body part of his removed or injected with a ball. Simple as that. He was confident in his abilities and he had his pick on sandsea or shore. That was enough for him.

In response he merely shrugged and moved to the side so that his man could have a shot. He wasn't naive enough to think that this beast could be brought down with a single shot since it had prevailed over magic and anything powerful elves had brought against it. The element of surprise was an advantage that couldn't be overlooked, especially in a situation as this. "Steady men. Remember, the walls are old and will probably crumble. Forbes, if you get a link into it, try to get it over to that part of the abbey. Those stones look the heaviest." Gesturing to the area right by the altar with the most area of a wall left.

Eilynne nodded, "True enough." Thus glancing at Malik for a moment and shaking her head. "You will not move any further. Allow me to handle it." She straightened slightly and then began to walk among the graves, sprinkling some sort of powder and speaking softly in another language as she walked. Moving to the High Priest's grave, she knelt for a moment and pressed a hand to his stone, denoted by the incantation engraved there. "You did well, my fine friend but in the end it took you as well. Honor bequeathed to you was upheld in fine form. Rest well." Taking to her feet once again, she moved just beyond the Seven and lifted her hands. "I beckon you now to reject that which was hidden wiith you and reveal it to me."

"You're boring and emotional but then humans usually are. We can't be boring." She didn't really see why Caden had such a problem with calling Xeke by those names but chose not to question it. Humans had always confused her. "I don't like bubbles. They eat me."
PostPosted: Fri Jun 29, 2007 4:18 pm

She stopped as the creature beckoned her and Malik too. She couldn't see what Eilynne was doing, but she was sure it was something interesting. Her nose detected a powdery substance and her ears picked up on the strange words as well as her senses kicking in as magic shifted in teh air. A blind look up to her father, or more or rather up at where she knew he was. "Akin to necromancy, that's interesting."

"Land is unpredictable, never know when it's going to open up and swallow you. I at least can see what the sandsea has in store for me when it wants to be unpredictable." Rolling her eyes. "Don't taunt it, why do you have to taunt it..." Shaking her head lightly, and resting her hands on her hips. "Living forever defeats the purpose of piracy. The object is to live as rich and free as possible and make a legacy for yourself of which stories shall ride the sandseas longer than any of our ships will." Turning her attention to the noises that echoed up the stairs they were all gathered around. "Sounds like indigestion."

It made its way up the stairs, padding heavily, dragging the body of what was used as bait with it in its jaws. And there it stood before them all, giving them a once over as it munched on it's snack before it dropped the now mangled heap and surveyed them all once again, saliva naking a nice divet in the floor where it stood. Casually it stalked toward the group, weren't elves but they would do. Slow and easy, no need to rush.

Malik listened, but didn't move...after all, playing with someone else's magical workings could be very bad.

"more shamanistic then necromantic. but the schools do share some similar features. spirit communication being one of them."

a glance down at his daughter.

"Oh I had a question from your mother. considering how often you go wandering, she's wondered a few times if you have some lover your meeting that you aren't sure we'd approve of. So I told her I'd ask."

Hunter watched it, and didn't move.

"Well. you're not some big dragon or winged demon...I dare say I'm disappointed. Though the acidic saliva is a nice touch. Do you have the ability of speech, or are you just a mindless elf killing beastie?"

just waiting for a good shot in the underbelly area. someplace where his arrows could do their work a bit quicker, if it hit close to or right on the right organ.

His answer came in a growl and a shifting of muscles under fur as the creature took to two legs, toweing over the crowd of various pirates. For a moment it stared before the muscles in the legs it was on bunched and it sprung into the midst of pirates, taking out two immediately with a swipe of a paw, and standing on another one, pressing him to the floor. A challenging noise before it lunged again, this time toward captains.

"It's furry, slobbery...and look at that it can stand on two legs. And stop taunting it." Though wasn't much time to think, merely time for evasice manuers as the thing launched itself at them all, taking down a few and then setting sights on her and Hunter. "It wants to play, the bugger." Raising her arm and pulling up her sleeve to reveal a mini harpoon like device strapped to her wrist, little more concealed and sleeked than an actual crossbow. Cocking it much like a gun so a glass vial with some liquid in it slid into the hollow area on the spear like projection, she aimed steadily. "Beastie chicken then, savvy Hunt?"

"Less flashy and carry on." She nodded in her understanding then blinked and dare one say they could hear her chuckle as she idly pet at Chy whom was still perched on her chains. Clouded silver and gold eyes turned to Malik's steely ones, holding his gaze while not at the same time. "Mama actually asked that?" It was amusing, then again it could just be daddy trying to cover for himself. Either way, he answer was going to be the same. "I highly doubt your's and her's approval would ever be hard to earn unless it was some unfeasible being in your minds, but a lover...no. I don't go around meeting someone in the dark corners of planes." Lover, oh no not her. No one had she met could either stomach her ways and shortcomings, or spark her own interest. One of those smiles that she had gotten from her father that could be interperted as scary in the right context, "Does that please you to know that?"

Thobias held his his ground, waiting for the perfect moment to launch the attack that he knew would either work like a charm or possibly just anger the beast and send them all to their doom. Wasn't being a pirate fun? "Steady man." Putting a hand on Forbes shoulder to keep him from moving and using the shot. "Move a little lower now. Aim right at that cord in his neck. That's where his jugular hides." With Hunter aiming beneath at his heart and Gem ready to take out any other piece of him, he'd pierce the thing's throat and see what that did. "Steady....get ready..." Watching the saliva to make sure the beast wasn't going to shake its head and spray them. "Everyone locked? We have one chance...and it comes NOW! Shoot!"

Forbes' hand was trembling slightly but he released the mechanism when he was told and the harpoon-esque weapon was released. The blade struck the beast in the front of the throat, embedded in it's neck. The chain remained hooked to the weapon and would only release when the second mechanism was tripped. Provided the beast did not break the chain and remained on its feet, the chain could then be pulled and used to bring the thing down.

The ground shook mightily at the finish of her words, the stones cracking with the force of the quake. Eilynne kept her footing and the ground beneath her feet did not seem affected. The dirt covering the graves split and began to spew as artifacts were released from the dead. Bejewled chalices of gold, bracelets and other pieces of jewelry, even armor that the dead had been encased in. Books, hair adornments and mangled, bloodstained cloths littered the ground. Eilynne turned to the two necromancers and gestured to the items now laying on the still ground. "Search for the gift. What you take is your choice, you know the dead better than I but the gift belongs to me."
