Miyuki hurried forward holding her doll tightly. Though she didn't know what gnomes were she did understand the feeling behind it all.
"Okay! Let's help!"

And so the children began to take on roles in a reenactment of the final end of the gnomes. For the most part, all went well, until a fight broke out between two of the boys.
"Hey! Stop it!" Arya, the apparent leader of the children and currently playing the role of Queen Aerin, stepped in to break up the fight. "Eluin! Chervin! Break it up!"
She stepped between the boys and held them apart, and the two boys glared at each other.
"I don't want to play Aethos-sola!" Chervin pointed at Eluin. "He says I have to but I don't want to!"
"Someone has to," Eluin replied. "And it's not going to be me because I'm Lord Elros!"

"Why not?" Miyuki asked.
She didn't think badly of Aethos, in fact she sort of had gotten the impression her Mummi had. Even though she didn't know everything her Mummi thought about Aethos.
She thought... if she knew the word, that Aethos had a 'deprived' childhood.

The children - all of them - stared at Miyuki.
"He's scary," Selene whispered as if she were afraid of being overheard.
"He's mean," someone else added just as quietly.
It was most likely that the children had never seen or spoken with him before, but that their opinions were from their parents, but that was sometimes the strongest impression that could be given about a person.
"Miyuki, you're a sol," Arya spoke up, "you're staying at the castle, right? Do you know Aethos-sola?"

Miyuki nodded at this, she had met Aethos of course spent a half a day with him and decided that he didn't know how to have fun.
"I don't think he's scary, or mean... he probably doesn't know how to have fun, but he's not mean."
She paused and really thought about it, what was the best way to describe him?
"He's weird," she nodded finally, "I don't think he's ever played before."

Arya blinked at Miyuki. "Never played before?" she repeated, her tone incredulous. "Is that even possible?"
"Well, with the old king as his father," Elan pointed out. "He was really nasty, maybe he didn't let Aethos-sola play when he was little!"
"But he was Queen Aerin's father, too," Sheena reminded them, "and she's nice."

This was true, Miyuki had to think about about that. The Queen was much more open than Aethos, she even smiled at Miyuki and asked her how her day was yesterday!
"Well.... Queen Aerin didn't always live here right? She lived..."
Where did she live? Miyuki didn't remember Aerin before her time as Queen because she had been to young.
"Away from her father," she announced, "So that's why she's nice and knows how to smile."
In fact she bet that Aethos didn't know how to really smile that's why everyone thought he was scary and mean.

A soft murmur rippled among the children, and one of them asked in an awe-filled tone, "Aethos-sola doesn't know how to smile?"
It certainly explained why they had never seen him smile before! Maybe he needed help?
"But Aethos-sola doesn't live with his father anymore, that's what my father says," Arya said. "So maybe he will be more like Queen Aerin soon."

Miyuki had to agree with that, she didn't see why not, even though she hadn't been aware how uncertain her parents were of Aethos and his ability to recover.
"Maybe," Miyuki thought that would be nice, "Mummi and Ada said he might go on a trip with us. So maybe he'll be nicer because there are a lot of nice people to teach him on the ship, because right now I think everyone is too busy to teach him."
After all Queen Aerin had lessons and had a city to build and all were boring stuff but had to be done. Who had time for Aethos-sola then?

"A trip?" "Where to?" "Where are you going?" "But you just got here, do you have to leave already?!" "Aww, we don't want you to go!"
It was clear that the children had already made Miyuki one of them, that despite her differences (none of which any of the children had mentioned yet) they accepted her as a friend no different from any of them at heart.

Miyuki was... touched that her new friends (they were friends right?) wanted her.
"Not for a long while," Miyuki told them, "I don't know when, but someday we're going to have to go back."
She didn't call it home, home was still an odd concept, home was with parents.

The children raised a collective sigh of relief.
"Good," Sheena said happily. "And while you're here will you play with us every day if you can? I know sometimes it might not work, but when you can?"
"Where do you live, anyways?" Elan asked curiously.

Miyuki nodded at that, somehow the idea of playing every day with everyone sounded like lots of fun. She really enjoyed that idea.
Though she didn't know what to make of Elan's question because that was difficult, "Right now, at the castle, before that it was on the ship."

Elan blinked at Miyuki. "You don't have a home?" she asked. "But - but your father is a sola, isn't he? Where is his kingdom?"
To her it just made sense that wherever the prince was prince was where his home was. Wasn't it?

Miyuki figured where her Ada came from was the closest thing to a kingdom and she did at least understand that most of his family lived in the Southland.
"The Southland, but we don't stay there that much..."
Actually Miyuki had never been there for more than a day or two not that she remembered because the longest stay she ever had was when she was a baby.
