You're supposed to wait a bit before you start. The bar on the side is the strength bar and it determines your score.
The game freezes on you if you press the spacebar too soon.

So, Comic-con had some interesting announcements. VIZ Media Panel Viz is also releasing Akira Himekawa's manga adaptation of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. The manga launches this October on a bimonthly schedule. I'm happier about the announcement of Pluto myself, but I figured the Cult might like this news.
